Opinions de El Taco De Mexico Santa Maria
Food was delicious, we’ve gone previously many years ago, glad they’re still around! Service was a bit slow, but we had no where to be, could’ve been the night we went.
Tried this place when our favorite spot was closed for the day. I actually really liked the food, but others in my party complained of it being heavy on garlic, which it was (but I love garlic so I was cool with it 😆). I had a shrimp quesadilla and it was awesome! There was easy street parking and the place itself was very cool! I would definitely come back.
One of my favorite restaurants in KC! We were the only people in there at the time and the girl who was our server was the absolute best. I wish I caught her name because she was the absolute nicest server I’ve had anywhere in a long time, but I didn’t unfortunately. Aside from that, the food here is always to die for and some of the best Mexican you can get in the area! I cannot recommend this place enough!
Food was amazing, loved the fresh salsa, came for lunch with my company and our server Marcy was so kind and accommodating for our table of 11/12, I Will be planing on coming back with family for future dinners, the drink prices were pretty reasonable as well. Thank you for the excellent service.
Teocali was amazing! We met the owner Enrique at our restaurant earlier in the day and he invited us to check out his place. We came and I can truly say it did not disappoint, the atmosphere was great & drinks were amazing . Can’t wait to come back! 😊
Great restaurants, lots of space, multilevel restaurant, affordable prices.
Family owned and they treat you like family :). Several different floor options bringing different vibes (the rooftop is fun on a nice day). Extensive authentic food menu. I personally love the chicken verde enchiladas, the tamales, and currently having the albondigas and poloze bring me back to life after being under the weather. They're a great option for delivery/catering as well!
5 star experience. Food delish, outstanding margaritas and friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was delicious, but as they were short staffed (Which I understand) it would often take two visits to our table before our things were remembered, and we had multiple different servers through the night. Lovely place and good atmosphere, they were gracious enough to store a cake in the cooler for us until we were ready for it. Hoping they can get fully staffed so they can stay open and I can give it another try!
The food was perfect. My boyfriend loves super spicy food and theirs met the bill. My tacos were amazing. Our waitress, though so very busy, was attentive and sweet. The whole experience was phenomenal. We both highly recommend this place.
While visit in Kansas City, we came here based on the menu. The food and service was great! They make fresh guacamole and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere/location is nothing special but we were going for the food and service anyway. I definitely recommend!
Visiting KC and this place came highly recommended by a local. Awesome house margaritas! The pork tamales are hand made from scratch and they don't skimp on the pork or serving size. Service is top-notch. Melissa and Jannah took great care of our group and we are all coming back tomorrow for dinner. :)
Hands down one of My favorite Mexican Restaurants here in Kansas City! I have done 2 Events on the Rooftop and eat here at least twice a month lol. The owner and staff are very kind and they were all good host. Would Recommend this place to anyone.
I can't wait to visit again! The food had so much flavor. I ordered a chicken burrito and it was FULL of chicken. They have a mystery beer or a mystery seltzer drink choice and it was fun to see what I would get next. Don't miss this place! It's wonderful!
Very good food, but, the salsa and chips are outstanding. Nice restaurant that offers dining area, outdoor patio and rooftop dining. Loved everything about this restaurant, service was very good. Even went back in a couple of days and ordered carry out with an extra bottle of salsa & chips. Took the salsa and chips to a party and everyone begged me to tell them where I got them. This is a wonderful place to have dinner or celebrate a special occasion. 5 Stars!!!
Honestly, we chose the restaurant online from the photos of food!!! The Verde Encilladas had me hooked! They did not disappoint!! I got them with steak. Soooooo good. Our waitress Stephanie, was super great and kind! We most definitely return and tell others. Thank you again!!
Great service! Very friendly and personable. Quick service from ordering to receiving food and drinks. The salsa has a lil kick of spicy, could get hotter, but its delicious! They even have some for sale. The food is awesone!! We're from New Mexico and have been looking for more authentic tasting Mexican/Southwest entrees and do believe this is the restaurant. They even had the actual "sopapillas", hot, fluffy, and sweet tasting. They dust theirs with surgar and cinnamon (which next visit I'll ask for mine not to have that done), order with my entree and eat with, instead of as a dessert. Just like back home. You have got to try this restaurant experience out, and see for yourself just how awesome the tastes are. (Looked and taste so good, I forgot to take picks of food)
Our work hosted a work party here and Eli was our server and we could not have been more impressed with the service! The food came out fresh and in a timely manner and was beyond delicious! We will be back again for sure, especially during the summer to enjoy the magnificent views on their wonderful patios!
Let me start with the atmosphere, OK. Their playlist is so bomb. Very hype and lovely🔊💃🕺. Next, the appetizer. Wow. Those chips and salsa just keep coming man🌮. Refill after refill. My God I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody refill my chips and salsa so quickly LOL I think we went through four bowls of chips. That is insane. What a great deal. And finally the main meal. Got the chicken quesadilla 🌯🌮and boy those things were stuffed. Everything tasted so fantastic. Honestly great place love it. Would come back✌️.
Had a networking event there on the 2nd floor. Outstanding venue and staff is amazing.
I have been a customer since the start. I love the energy and most importantly the food. Ceviche 🙋🏽♀️ yes please. Of course chicken fajitas. Games are great to watch here, music is fantastic, or just a nice day with the windows open!
Had a date night here with my girlfriend. Food was great. Waitress was friendly and gave us food prompt service. Never a bad experience here.
Stopped in here by chance, only to find a great spot. A lot of people probably already knew about, because the food was good. They had garage doors on both sides of the dining area which they open in good weather giving it a patio vibe, I had carne Asada lettuce, tacos they were amazing , the entire staff was friendly and welcoming, thank you .
The food is delicious. They had some traditional pooled and while it took about an hour to come, you could tell it was freshly prepared and tasted wonderful. Tacos were great and so were the quesilladas. Service was slow but otherwise was fine. Definitely worth a visit or two...
Nice quaint little Mexican restaurant with wonderful service and wonderful food. In a great part of the city that's up and coming right off of crown center and by Truman hospital. Have wonderful Mexican food in great margaritas.
We came here Saturday for lunch to get a break and catch our breath while our daughter is at the children’s hospital it was such a relaxing atmosphere and we had such a wonderful meal! The upstairs front patio was great! Felt like we were sitting up in the tree tops! The food was delicious! Everything was fresh and made from scratch! Olivia was a wonderful server and took such good care of us! We will definitely be back!
I used to take my son here as a reward after his orthodontic treatments 10 yrs ago at nearby UMKC. As we live away from KC, we hadn’t been back after his appointments ended. We decided to come back last night & had a fantastic dinner! The menu has remained uniformly excellent. We had fajitas, carnita, and the best guac dip I’ve ever had. Gr8 to know that some things never change! Lastly, kudos to our waiter, Hunter, who was there whenever we needed anything! We resolve to not let 10yrs lapse again!!!
When you think about good food, this place should be at the top of your list. The experience here is exceptional, starting with the service, which is consistently attentive, friendly, and professional. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome, ensuring every detail of your visit is seamless. As for the food, it’s nothing short of superb—each dish is crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients, bursting with flavor, and presented with care. Whether you’re craving a comforting classic or something more adventurous, the menu delivers variety and excellence. The ambiance complements the meal perfectly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes every visit memorable. From start to finish, this spot sets the standard for what dining out should be.
Excellent service, we LOVED William! The food so delicious as always! Favorite Mexican in KC💛
Great service, great food, only visiting Kansas City, but would definitely come back if I ever pass through again! Special shoutout to the owner, Enrique
It’s rare that we find a place that leans more on the true Mexican food vs Tex-Mex. We will definitely be back to this restaurant. Friendly service and food was brought to the table fast. Highly recommend anything with their shredded chicken. Only down side was they charge for their chips and salsa. No specials on the weekend.
I stumbled on Teocali on accident during a business event (tires for Leo). I was able to visit with Enrique briefly who shared they have been there for 15 years and the quality the offer. I was able to return with the wife a few days later and sample the menu. I had the Burrito Ranchero and it was fantastic! The atmosphere (outside dining, both covered and open air available) was amazing and everyone one of the staff we met were prompt and friendly. Service was speedy and the meal was fresh and delicious, absolutely will return! Thank you for welcoming us and the A+ customer service!
Best restaurant in KC and surrounding areas! The food is out of this world and the service and atmosphere will absolutely blow you away. Every dish is crafted with care and bursting with flavor — whether you’re indulging in their signature entrées or sampling one of their amazing appetizers, you can taste the quality and passion in every bite. Perfect for date nights, celebrations, or just treating yourself to something extraordinary — this place raises the bar. We can’t wait to come back!
Quite the neat place. My family stopped in for lunch while on a long weekend to KC. The building and patio area themselves are a great place to kick back with a drink and good company. The food was very delicious and well priced for the amount they had. I loved their salsa tasted fresh and had a non overbearing kick to it. The service was fast, friendly, and well trained. They were even kind enough to give our family some pointers on things to not miss during our weekend in town. Great job you guys!
Totally delicious with great service. I asked our server for a recommendation and she suggested a chicken flauta nortenas(I think) with some dope yellow crema. All the sides like, guac, pico, rice, beans, chips and salsa were on point. Went for lunch this time but will def be back for dinner as the bar looks fun and I gotta try the diablo sauce next time.
It’s was amazing the servers were so kind and checking up on us! The food was amazing and fresh! One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been here!
Absolutely incredible experience! Great food and fantastic service. I simply can not recommend enough! We even got to meet the owner, and what a great guy! Not to mention our server was truly so wonderful- didn’t catch his name but he’s from Florida and was absolutely wonderful!!
We came here from TX to see my niece at Children’s Mercy Hospital, stopped by for dinner and the service/food/atmosphere was good BUT the owner Antonio… amazing person!! He offered his dearest and most sincere sympathy for our niece passing away.. great owner who really cares about his fellow people!!
Very Friendly Good is good. Its in my neighborhood as well. Not opened on sundays. UPDATE- Now I initially like this place but this is MY second time within 1 month July 2025. And this time was my last. The food is not the same. Beans no flavor. My dish "sopes" no bueno. Service is great. But the food I'm not happy 😢$20 for salsa chips a side of rice and beans, two sopes. The picture tells it all. Please do better. I only went here twice because it's two blocks from my office 😔 P.S. I hadn't eaten the beans yet in this picture. That's how much was in there for $2.99. unpleased. Sope hardly nothing on it. NOTHING.
We hosted a baby shower here and everything was great! BJ and their whole crew were amazing and accommodated us very well with everything we needed and more. The food was great, drinks were great, and service was awesome. Highly recommend!!
This place is hopping! They’re doing a brisk business on a Wednesday night. My server, Grace, was excellent! I had El Dueto. It is two enchiladas and a tostada. No substitutions or I would’ve had a taco instead of the tostada. Chips and salsa here are excellent! The chips are very thin and light and the salsa has amazing flavor! I also got some cheese dip that was very thick and lovely. It was delicious! For dinner, I very much enjoyed the rice and beans which are better than most. Also, the pork chili enchilada is fantastic! I also loved the cheese enchilada, though it could’ve been warmer with the cheese more melted. That’s a personal preference thing for me. Not a dealbreaker at all. Enrique, the owner is present and active. He is supervising the staff and making sure everything is expedited. Ed, the general manager, is large and in charge. He was running food to tables when servers got overwhelmed. I love the team effort here! It’s three stories of fun including a rooftop patio all on Hospital Hill. What a treat this place is. Stop by here as soon as you can for lunch or dinner.o
This place is literally vibes. The food is amazing! The atmosphere feels like home. Our server though, let’s be so for real: Liz was the sweetest and she checked on us diligently. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much with a server before. The bartender was also very friendly, very inviting personality and his drinks were phenomenal! We will visit every time we’re in the KC area.
I really enjoyed my experience here! I was simply on a work day, but the staff were attentive the whole time, checking in on me even after I completed my meal. They made it feel really welcoming and comfortable. The food was really good! I got the fried taco and birria quesadilla both were well prepared🙂 The patio seating is nice if you want to be a little isolated.
Can I give Teocali 10 ⭐️ vs just a 5? We recently hosted a #KCBOC business event at Teocali Mexican Restaurant with over 150 attendees, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. 🙌 From the planning stages to the end of the night, the staff went above and beyond. Dustin, Hunter and Enrique were incredibly helpful with coordinating the event details and ensuring everything was set up perfectly. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Dustin handled the bar areas with ease and not one person had to wait more then 3 minutes for a drink. After the event wa la over, quite a few guests stayed a bit past our scheduled time, the team was more than willing to accommodate. Stephanie, our bartender/server, was attentive, friendly, and handled the extended hours with a smile. The private areas were ideal for our needs, and the catering was a huge hit—delicious, well-organized, and perfectly suited for a large group. My only regret is that we didn’t get to use the rooftop — but when you schedule a rooftop event in March in KC what do you expect?? 🤣 🤦🏼♂️ Teocali truly delivered on all fronts, and we look forward to working with them again for future events.
I really liked the open air seating options and went with the balcony seating for this dinner. Had the Tapatias (steak, chicken, and shrimp) fajitas, great plate for sharing. Have to commend them that they have a very reasonably priced ($6/glass) wine menu with interesting choices; I chose the malbec. Service was just a little bit slow but otherwise very pleasant. They had lots of seating available. Currently, menus are online only but this might be a reasonable paper saving maneuver to make permanent. Also was not too noisy. Definitely would come back if I'm looking for a downtown Mexican meal in KC .
Teocali has been added to my list of top Mexican restaurants in KC to visit! The guacamole is incredibly fresh as well as with the house-made salsa. If you are fan of light chips, this is the spot to visit. Along with fresh dips, the margaritas pack a PUNCH! Teocali offers a very affordable lunch menu. If you work in the area, make sure to pop in for a tasty lunch! Top items to order: the chimichanga plate and the tamales plate. Add this spot to your KC restaurant bucket list today!
The food was excellent. The service was wonderful. I am from the Southwest, and my husband is half step Mexican, and we are very picky about our Mexican food. Their salsa is very good, The server Mary was very attentive, and never let our drinks go empty. The cost is average for eating out in these times of inflation.
The food was great the atmosphere was alright clean and well kept not busy for a Saturday afternoon the service was slow waited for long period of time for our order to be taken and for our food to be brought out although there was literally only one table before us HATE that you have to scan a barcode to see the full menu i like the paper or hard cover menus no scanning codes for me its annoying tbh the food was the only good thing and the alcohol drinks thats it
First time there was told they served food late but not true..got there 15min.before closing which we all know that I don't do that ,...I was rushed to order but it was understandable, food came it was great to my surprise with them closing and all, service not so much..loved the roof top view...salsa had a little kick to it
I was there for a large networking event which was held upstairs. Later that evening, I went downstairs for dinner. Not too many people here on a Wednesday evening so I was seated immediately. Pleasant waiter, nice selection of food, and prompt service.
Excellent food and drinks. The service was good and the atmosphere was terrific! Drive by many times and wondered and now I know what I was missing. Will be going back!
Came for the show and stayed for the food. Our server Rosa was top notch so friendly and inviting. Her presence made it feel like home and that we were in a safe space. The food was so good. The torta was filling. The baguette bread was crispy on the outside, soft inside and stuffed to the brim with juicy, flavorful al pastor. And the tamales? The masa was soft, tender, and full of flavor not dry at all, which is surprisingly rare.
Our waitress was very sweet but the food did not have much flavor...it wasn’t bad but not worth the $ in my opinion. The atmosphere was nice and they had open outdoor seating, the employees were all very friendly. Our drinks had not a taste of alcohol in them and were halfway melted by the time they reached our table. Not sure we will return but I hope this was just a one off situation.
I visited by myself for a quick dinner and liked the atmosphere and service. The food I ordered, chicken fajitas, was at best ok but not great. I found myself dipping the dry chicken into salsa to make it more palatable. The onions and peppers where a bit undercooked for my taste, so I left them behind. The experience was not tempting enough to go back for a second time. But, the service was nice and the servers very attentive.
My review is based purely on someone from Chicago and rating the quality of food/taste in comparison to Chicago Mexican restaurants. Localites may find the food ok. We are vegetarians and ordered enchiladas. Though the taste was just ok, the way it was prep wasn't that great. The dish had way too much Rojas sauce and was very runny. The enchiladas were just swimming in the Rojas sauce. So didn't enjoy it much after the first few bites when we were super hungry. On the plus side, service was relatively quick and staff were friendly. I liked the concept of a closed terrace seating which is pretty cool. Chips and salsa were good and fresh Not sure if we would visit again. When we went, the first floor was closed off so have to climb stairs so keep that in mind
It’s hard to give a review when the food was so good. I ate here at about 5pm. There is no menu so you have to look on your phone, not a big deal. As far as i could tell there were only 5 tables seated so it was by no means busy. We waited about 15mins for someone to take our order and felt rushed. Also not that big of a deal. But no exaggeration we order 2 dishes and it took an hour for us to receive our food at which point i had to ask for a box to go because we had already been waiting almost an hour and a half. If i ever eat here again it will not be dine in. Food was fresh and delicious. No complaints at all there. Just disappointing when staff makes you feel unimportant and disregarded. Hope this was just a one off.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the downtown area. Tonight we had good service but last time was horrible. As for the margaritas, they are essentially virgins. I mean literally no tequila. With that said, I will return only because the food is top notch.
Full disclaimer: Did not eat this first visit, but went to experience the patio. The patio, is truly a KC rarity. With some of the best views at sunset around. How lucky the owners are for that alone. Views west and Crown Center to stun. In a part of a neighbor I love, when I came it had a D.J. with up-to-the-edge-of-club-level. I wanted to eat on the patio in balmy, sunset serenity. It's a nice rooftop patio. The house margaritas are okay. Wished I hadn't had a plastic frat cup, though. And I wish it had been handmade, not from a tap. Staff seemed standoffish, aloof, as if it was too much to ask for a drink. Granted the D.J. had the music up so loud conversation was impossible - but still. Smile a little. Plus, it's not a club. It's a restaurant with a gorgeous rooftop patio. I will be back to try un poco de todo, the carnitas, and a specialty margarita. Maybe a slow week night is best? Monday?
Celebrated their 10th anniversary with them. Festive, live music, great atmosphere. But the service was not good. The girl was slow, did not know hardly anything about the menu. In fact, when asked about the mole, she said she didn't know what was in it or how it was made. The redeeming factor was the taste of the food. The mole was very good as was the pool soup. The temperature of the two dishes could have bee hotter.
They added an undisclosed 3% technology surcharge to the bill. The food was fine, but I won't be going back. I'm sure they listed the surcharge somewhere in mice-type on the electronic menu. That's probably enough to avoid being shut down by the Attorney General, but it still feels slimy. It wasn't worth making a scene about for a couple of bucks, but they managed to ruin an otherwise positive dining experience.
The rooftop was cool and the staff was really friendly but the margaritas were insanely disappointing. Super sweet and hardly any tequila. We arrived with a group of 5 and shared 2 pitchers of margaritas— thinking perhaps the first one was made incorrectly. Nope, the second one was also garbage. The food was ok— definitely nothing special. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to go again, and if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for a decent drink, probably best to go somewhere else.
*** CHARGE FOR CHIPS AND SALSA***** Really?! First of all i'm giving two stars because the waiter was great. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that charges for chips and salsa. $4 is not a big deal , but to charge for chips and salsa i think is petty by the owner. If you went in there just for a drink, I could maybe understand but not when your total bill is $60.??????WILL.NOT.BE BACK
I hate writing bad reviews but I had a bad experience here and I thought I needed to share. There was no ambiance to the place, we were there for almost two hours because it took forever for us to get our drinks and food. The food was okay.. I’m Hispanic so I know authentic when I see it and that food is nowhere near that. The margarita I ordered was mostly syrup than anything… it’s pricey for the quality they’re serving. The server was super sweet and she clearly was trying her best to help everybody so it isn’t her fault. I think the owner should do a better job at scheduling enough workers so those poor girls aren’t running around like crazy!
I wish this review could be better. Walked in with two others and we were told to grab a seat. We did and were great fair quickly, asked if we would like chips and salsa/queso and returned to shortly with those items. Then we were forgotten about. For a while. When our orders were taken, I ordered a drink that never came. When our food came out, it was room temp with no flavor, which is the exact opposite of what was expected. Our poor server seemed confused and, honestly, we were not sure who our actual server was. Entire experience from start to finish was lackluster and less than expected. The only thing that made this experience worth while was the chips and salsa.
Food was sub-par for the price, portion was small. Service was not the greatest, we had to ask for water several times before we actually got it...and it was not busy at the time.
Saw this advertised on social media and wanted to give it a try for BOGO margaritas on Monday. It was lunch time so like 2 other parties were there, had issues with the waiter inattentive...failed to bring us our queso for an app and failed to bring out the correct entre. Found out that only the House margarita are BOGO, which were okay at best. On a good note....their Enchiladas
I was excited to try Teocali after reading the reviews. I love taco trucks and small town Mexican and Tex mex food. When I arrived the restaurant was about 80 degrees and no air movement. Made reservations days ahead of time for a party of 6. Reservations were confirmed via email. Nobody knew about the reservations at the restaurant. Waited about 10 minutes and was seated. Ordered a Dos Equis but they were out? Okay let me try a house Marg. House Marg was basically an $8 lemonade. Food took about 50 mins to come out. But we enjoyed watching a screen saver on the TV, while the TV at the bar played the local game. Food was alright. Tried the fish tacos that supposed were the best in KC. It was a piece of grilled white fish, cabbage, and chipotle sauce on the side (personally I think it was store bought sauce). Nothing special. I noticed most my party only ate half their entrees. Table was metal patio furniture and was broken, missing multiple bolts and nuts. Got charged 3% technology fee, yet I paid in cash? William was nice and speedy. Personally he deserves better. He was a hard worker. $30 a person including tip. Won’t return and would avoid. I’m sure it’s great for the 2 dozen people who are regulars and get the hookup at the bar.
Food was okay, house margaritas was not good. Sever didn't apply neither one of the discounts for the day and they charged me a 95 cent charge for no reason, I paid cash. Also might as well add that the server seemed pretty clueless.
I'm not one to leave reviews, but after the experience my group had tonight, I feel obligated to leave a review. Especially since I chose this place tonight based off their 4 stars. If I could give it a zero, I would. Margaritas were bland no alcohol at all. The queso tasted like it was bought and warmed up from a gas station. And almost all meals were brought out with some kind of mistake. And the food prices do not match the quality. Also, we had a group of 8 so don't get me wrong I understand why gratuity is included, but the server definitely did not earn any of it. She didn't fix any mistakes, she rarely checked on us, and when she brought out our order tickets she handed a pile to me and said if anything is wrong let me know. All tickets were wrong. And they were not busy at all. Just absolutely terrible food, service and drinks.
I’ve never been so disappointed with a restaurant than I was with Teocali. I chose to have my 40th birthday dinner here. Big mistake. I called ahead and reserved a table for 8 at 6:30. I arrived at 6:25. The server looked like she had no idea that they had a reservation at this time. She put some tables together and as she sat me I said, “There will be 8 others arriving soon. Please just bring waters out for now” she brought me a water 10 minutes later. Didn’t take my drink order until 7:00pm, didn’t get my drink until 7:20. At that time others ordered drinks which took about 15 min to get. We had to flag down people for every single thing we needed. When we finally caught someone’s attention we rushed through the menu to order our food because we knew no one would be back for a while. I told them upon arrival that we needed to leave by 8:15 to get to another place that I had made reservations at. At 8:16 I got a servers attention to tell them we needed to leave. She said our food was being plated. I told her that we had to go and no one wanted their food. We didn’t have time to wait and most definitely didn’t want Mexican food in our cars for 3 hours. They argued with the entire table and said, “It’s Friday night, you should expect us to be busy” it was Saturday night! There were 3 servers and someone bussing the tables. Very manageable for the amount of patrons that were there. They threatened to call the owner. Honestly wish they would’ve. This was a terrible experience! And put a real dent in the night. It’s too bad.
Went for lunch and starters walked in and the welcoming wasn't welcoming. Yes they do charge for chips and salsa. But that's not even the kicker. We sat and waited, and waited, and waited for our food that never came. My sprite was flat and somehow warm. My husband killed the chips and salsa but I don't blame him we were hungry. Finally decided we didn't want it anymore and proceeded to ask for the check for just the chips, salsa and drinks. Server said it's Kool I got it. As you should. Dude know that service was bull. And the chick server servered and tended to everyone in there but us. That was offsetting too. O out of 5. I was hoping bad drinks, good food. But only got bad drinks.
We waited for nearly and hour and half to get our food. The food was cold, the avocado smelled rancid, and fishy. The meat was dry and flavorless, rubber-like to eat or cut. I've never had such a bad eating experience, or poorer prepared food. Our waitor disappeared nearly the whole time, said sit where you want, but wouldn't serve us on the roof top seating.
Worst dining experience we have ever had in Kansas City in the 4 years we have lived here. We used to eat here...about 3 years ago and it was great. Tonight...everything was a complete disaster. Never again
If I could give this place zero stars I would. It was my first and last time visiting this place. The server (heavy set guy with glasses) offered us salsa but didn’t inform us that the salsa wasn’t free (like any other Mexican restaurant) Also I ordered a Paloma there wasn’t a hint of alcohol in my drink. The food is terrible and bland not to mention the server was rushing me and my daughter to order and was rude and argumentative when we had questions concerning our orders. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place. I should’ve stuck to what I know.
We will not be back. We are staying at children’s mercy since my niece was admitted and thought we would try here since it had good reviews. However after taking 10 minutes to even be able to order our drinks we were left without any service for over 20 minutes. Finally after going to the bar to try and find our server the general manager came over baffled we hadn’t gotten any drinks still or our order taken. After this the manager brought over our drinks and queso that had obviously been sitting a while. About bout 5 minutes after that our server reappeared for the first time since we had seen him and made multiple snarky comments on if we were ready to order or needed any more time and the terrible service. We ordered and then it took another 45 minutes for food to come out. At that point we needed to get back to the hospital so asked for the food to be boxed up and the check. I will say during all of the the general manager was incredibly kind and understanding and I pray this is a one day thing however the experience we did have was incredibly poor and frustrating as a family from out of town just trying to get a meal.
My family and I had the worst service tonight. The waiter was just down right rude. I wouldn’t say his attitude was rude, but his service but just straight awful. I have rarely ever been judged in Kansas City by a server. Treated all of his other guests better than he treated us. Only came and checked on us once. Never asked us if we wanted more chips or needed more water. Never again will I be coming back.
I purchased a $25 gift certificate for $50 from Fox 4 Be Our Guest on 11/29/2024 for Teocali Mexican Restaurant. I tried to redeem this at the establishment on 5/28/2025, which was before the stated expiration date of 5/29/2025. When I tried to use my voucher, I was told by the general manager that they were no longer accepting these. With a confused look, I asked why. I was told there had been some confusion about how many were sold to the public, which, as a paying customer, I shouldn’t have to worry about since I already purchased it. I was not given any credit towards my bill and paid full price. I was then told to reach out to Fox 4 Be Our Guest to see if they would refund me. I emailed them on 5/28/2025 and have still not received a response as of today. Please be aware and ask the establishment before you go if they still accept the gift certificates you purchased with your own money.
Shoutout to this restaurant for reminding me exactly where not to spend my time or money. Thanks for saving me the trouble. Bartender is not good.
My wife and a few friends went to Teocali on a Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago. We sat on the roof, which was quite pleasant. Unfortunately, that was the extent of the pleasantness. The food was subpar and the service was pretty awful. Granted, the server had to go up an extra set of steps, but she seemed very reluctant to do that more than she absolutely had to. To add icing to that cake, some of the metal chairs on the roof have holes in them and sharp edges. The seat of my favorite suit pants were torn in three places. My wife told the manager on duty, I cant remember her name, and she seemed to have little concern. She never even bothered to come look at the chairs. I called the general manager a few days later. He seemed genuinely concerned about the situation and promised that he or the owner would call me back the next day to discuss it further. Its been two weeks and I still have heard nothing from them. Alas, this just made the entire experience negative. Other than the roof being pretty cool, nothing about Teocali is worth returning. The service sucked, the food was bland, unimaginative and poor quality. We will not be returning.
When I pointed out to the manager that I found a pube in my salsa he only reply was, “that’s weird we only have women working in the kitchen”. I can honestly say sexist kitchen policy didn’t make me feel any better about what I found in my food. I kept being ignored by my server and felt as if I was being an inconvenience to them just being in the restaurant.
We went out on a Wednesday evening to try somewhere new. There were maybe 7 tables in the restaurant, and a patio event. Our drinks took 10 minutes to come out and almost an hour for our food that had clearly been sitting awhile as it was cold. We asked for water refills several times, and never got one. We tried to order a second round of drinks but after 15 minutes we cancelled our drink order as we just wanted to leave. This was our first and last time visiting here. I wouldn’t waste an evening visiting.
I was given a drink, the glass had lipstick on it 🤢 The meat in the posole tasted off, freezerburn perhaps. Staff was friendly. Definitely better restaurants out there.
I had been to this place a few times. My daughter even celebrated a few birthdays and a graduation here and the food and service had been wonderful. But, this last time I came to town my family & I invited other family & friends to meet us for a bite. But it won't happen again the food and the service was NASTY!! I won't be back and will not ever recommend this place again to anyone I know!! not authentic and no flavor....even the drinks we had we're not worth our time
I hate to write this post, but..... we went to a Mexican restaurant & I didn't see 1 Mexican! The menu is heavy Mexican with no pictures. The server Jalin, the black guy, was so unenthusiastic! Not welcoming at all. No Mexicans & no Mexican music inside a Mexican restaurant 😕! We ordered the spinach queso with beef, it came out with no visible beef & when asked about the beef, instead of bringing out another 1 made correctly, they brought out a bowl of beef! It tasted like it been cooked for days. The hard tacos came out with stuff all over it & the beef tasted old! (I paid for everything & didn't want anything taken off the bill). My main dish was OK but after the service I was already ready to go! Oh, the drinks were good😳! I think I can cross this place off my list. The balcony was peaceful as well.
