Opinions de Ghisallo Santa Monica
I love that Ocean Park Blvd (near SMC) and Bob's Market is attacting wonderful, new, charming and tasty restaurants. I've been taking home pizza from Ghisallo multiple times (during the pandemic.) But now I enjoy walking here to dinner. There is sidewalk seating, but the back patio is really charming. You sit underneath olive trees, with quaint backyard lighting. My favorites are the following: - Pizza. Pizza! Whatever toppings, its the pizza that keeps us coming back for more. Excellent! - Chicken Parmasean. What stood out was the crispy, breaded chicken breast and light marinara sauce. - Arugula Salad with dressing on the side. We've had this salad 3 times. The first time had the perfect amount of (citrus/lemon) dressing. The 2nd time, the salad was drenched with the dressing, which was bad. The 3rd time, we asked for dressing on the side, so we could add the right amount. Perfect. - Beet salad (no pictures). - Truffle fries. Hot and crispy. Family friendly and pet friendly.
Great pizza and atmosphere at night. Outdoor seating in the back was excellent. Some of the best pizza I’ve had
I went here last month as a group of 4 and we had a fabulous time! The outdoor seating area is super cute, service was friendly and attentive, and our veggie pizza was delicious! The wines are to die for 🥰. Thanks guys!
I think this might be the best pizza in LA. I have been to all of the good ones and I would’ve never expected that the best pizza is in a quiet neighborhood in Santa Monica. It was perfectly executed from the crust to the amount of toppings and sauce. I still can’t believe how perfect the bottom crust is. When I lifted it, it did not get soggy whatsoever. It had such a nice amount of char as well. The sausage was great and the sauce again was so tasty. 10 out of 10 I will definitely be coming back. I can’t believe this is around the corner from where I live. The team behind this place and their other businesses are doing amazing things mad respect to all of them.
Best pizza in Santa Monica and among the best in LA. It's almost a crime to eat pizza elsewhere on the West side.
Good pizza - new owners got rid of selling dough. Used to come in often for it, really sad… bring it back!!
I cannot say enough about how much I love this place. My wife, two friends and I stumbled into Ghisallo one night while our sons were training across the street at John Adam’s middle school. From the street you wouldn’t expect much, but there is the most cozy atrium in the back that is the perfect vibe for this cool spot. We were greeted inside by Isaiah, who is a mixture of a hotel concierge and the best friend you ride bikes with as a kid. The coolest, most welcoming dude you’ll ever meet. He somehow greets you warmly while juggling a dozen tasks and never forgets your face or name. We didn’t have a reservation (6pm on a Thursday) but he opened up one table to seat the 4 of us. His recommendations were on point- the wings, which are more like a spicy Asian fried chicken entree- not just some wimpy flats, and the Carne Amore pizza paired with the Cabernet Sauvignon they had that night. The food was amazing, and Kyla’s (spelling) assistance/service only further made us feel at home. We now go here weekly and the same friendly faces greet us warmly. Service has never waned, food quality is always excellent, pizzas, wine and apps come out perfectly on time. We love it here. Thank you Ghisallo for empowering such wonderful people to make our experience amazing. We will be back every week until you kick us out. Cheers!
The Raddicio Salad is top tier, so are their red pizza’s and their wine by the bottle is the perfect price.
Great pizza long with their salads! Their fresh bread baked on the premises are also must have! And love their outdoor patio seating in the back.
Really sweet cute vibe on the back patio, felt like I was back in New York in a neighborhood joint. Staff is so friendly. Most low key, genuine dining experience we’ve had a long time.
Lovely pizza place to hangout and dine on pizza with your family or friends. The pizzas are delicious and pocket friendly and of excellent quality. I pressure it was sourdough because it was the fluffiest and the crunchiest base/crust I've had. Highly recommend if you're I the neighborhood 😁
This might have just been the best pizza I’ve ever had. I ordered the Luciana Sausage neapolitan pizza and figured it was either going to be great, or kinda weird. It was phenomenal. The dough was cooked perfectly, ricotta was creamy, it had the perfect amount of garlic (just enough to get the flavor, but not so much to cloud the other flavors or overwhelm), had a bit of a zesty flavor, and a salty hard cheese flavor on top that I haven’t figured out yet. The combination of these flavors with the fresh sausage and fennel was amazing! And this impression was based on a luke warm delivery pizza that I didn’t reheat. I can’t wait to check this place out in person and try this pizza fresh out of the oven!
I finally had a chance to try this pizza…when you are walking next to it you can’t ignore the professional pizza oven…so in my opinion the pepperoni pizza was very special and delicious they use sourdough which makes the pizza dough more chewy then the usual
This place is a real gem for pizza lovers, offering an excellent range of fresh pizzas in a few distinct styles, including NYC and Neapolitan. They expertly bake your choice on the spot in a large, eye-catching oven, which means you can enjoy your pizza fresh out of the oven right there or take it to go. The ambiance adds to the experience, with a quaint, cozy patio at the back for a more intimate dining setting or a few tables on a terrace street side for those who enjoy people-watching or basking in the bustling atmosphere of the neighborhood. I've become quite a fan of this place and strongly recommend it to anyone on the west side in search of truly authentic, delicious pizza. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal in a charming setting, you won't be disappointed here.
My husband sent me LA Times’ list of 10 great new pizza restaurants in LA and off we went to try our first spot. And I’m happy to report that this place definitely earned a spot on my list too. The shop is cute and unassuming. There is outdoor seating in both the back and the front. But if you want chairs with backs, then head to the back patio for a little cozier seating options. While you wait, stop by the bread shop next door and pick up some num nums for later. If it’s after 3p, Ghisallo sells it too (make sure to get the butter too - yum). The pizza dough is perfect which I use to judge all pizza. We tried the Squash Blossom pizza and the Spartacus for our first adventure. Both were a little tough to eat like you would a slice of pizza here in the states because the toppings made the dough just a little wet. But the flavor was certainly NOT compromised at all. We also order the small anti pasta salad and that was very delicious. Wow. If you find yourself in SM, stop on in, or if you don’t, make the drive. You won’t be disappointed.
This is a fantastic pizza spot. The warm atmosphere sitting outside on the back patio underneath the tree with an array of heaters and soft lighting is the perfect setting to enjoy the great pizza. We ordered the garlic bread, the prosciutto Neapolitan and a couple slices of the New York style. The neopolitan (my favorite style) had great flavor and a crispy crust but a very floppy body. The New York style were generously sized, good flavor and a crispy crust but a similarly soft undercarriage. Very friendly service and great vibes and reasonable pricing.
Solid well crafted food with an open busy kitchen makes for fun atmosphere. Great for a hot slice and or casual dinner. Crust is delicious - seems like influenced by bakery next door with a more artisanal sourdough texture and flavor. I got market vegetable paired squash with some goat cheese. Wish I got a side they all looked market fresh and good flavors.
This gave me the perfect five star experience with the back area where the seating is incredible and the food would be even more amazing! I had the pleasure of a friend joining and he decided to have the fungi y truffle pizza with a Pilsner and I joined in with water and two slices of the magherita pizza! The service was incredible and the music was an absolute hit lol the bathrooms are unisex so all you have to do is lock the door. They except most modern forms of payment, and the iced latte with Carmel was the perfect way to finish of celebrating my day. There’s so many things here to try, where I am not on a diet I would have tried even more!
Went here last weekend and had a great time! Things are a little hectic since it’s a new restaurant, and they had some issues in the kitchen and getting stuff out for other tables, but we got our stuff on time. The staff is super nice and the food was delicious! We got two pizzas and the chocolate cake and everything was so so good. I highly recommend the cacio e Pepe pizza it was amazing! Next time I’m going to order like 3 of them.
Tasty Italian restaurant in Ocean Park. Came here with a friend for brunch on a Saturday, and left so happy & full. You order at the counter first, and then seat yourself. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code at the table to place your order. Outdoor patio seating is available in the back and front of the restaurant. Credit cards are accepted. Metered street parking. Food-wise, everything was on point. We opted to try an array of food, and split everything. The kale salad and the antipasta salad were well-mixed and you can opt to get a half or full serving. The inferno pizza was my favorite, and had spicy salami on the top. The crust was Neopolitan style, with a perfect chewiness. The funghi and truffle pizza was slightly sweet, with a lot of caramelized onions. The sandwiches were also tasty, with a firm bread and well seasoned fillings. The eggplant Parmesan is a good vegetarian option, while the Italian sandwich had a nice bite. Last (but certainly not least), the chocolate cake was impeccable. It’s decadent with many layers, and was sweet without being cloying. The almond cake is an option for those who don’t like sweets at all, and has a salty nuttiness in the cake with a seasonal stone fruit on top. Overall, it’s a great spot for grabbing a casual meal with delicious food and a laidback, cute atmosphere.
Ocean park deserves Ghisallo. First time stepping into ghisallo was when I was walking down ocean park with a coffee in hand on March 28, 2023. What drew me in was the flagrant aroma of fresh pizza dough and the pizza oven, you can smell it from a far distance. Upon entering you’ll be able to see the preparation of pizza dough to the arming of the pizza and finally the placement of the pizza into the pizza oven. I always go with the Margherita pizza to check whether a Neapolitan pizza is decent, good, or great. Why you may ask… because you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients, such as the basil, tomato sauce, and dough, after all it is a staple. I was seated at the back patio, which is chefs kiss. A calm seating area during the early afternoon and in the evening it is lit with lights, furthermore more seating is present outdoors on ocean park Blvd. Once the server placed our pizza on the table, I did not hesitate to take a picture right away, it looked great. The Margherita was made properly, all ingredients stood out. I also ordered the NY style slice to give it a try, was not the best since it lacked flavor imo, I prefer the Neapolitan style pizza. Would I recommend this place? Yes, took some friends here, who prefer Ny pizza over Neapolitan style pizza, but they really liked the pizza, they will be returning. If you had read this far, try their bbq ribs, they are giant and tasty, definitely a sleeper item. I will be returning to Ghisallo to their other tasty Neapolitan style pizzas and sandwiches. Definitely recommend to give it a go, it’s suitable for friends, family, or with a partner. - E.J.M.
Amazing dough! You can smell it the whole time your there! Great sauce too, cheese ratio was perfect! Didn’t need pepper or salt, this was one of the most amazing pies I’ve had in Los Angeles, and you can see my reviews I’m no stranger to pizza. They’re doing an excellent job there, and it’s not a trendy concert line kinda spot. Super small and I’m glad I found it! I’ll def be back soon!

Great place to get pizza and more! Patio seating in back with table service. They do a brisk takeout service as well.

Is there a manager on the premises? 🤷♀️ Food was great, service was great. Very surprised that I couldn’t get an espresso at 8:15 you are open til 9pm. “Sorry our machine has been cleaned! “ What? 🤔 Noticed you’ were still seating new guests! What kind of customer service is that? Well, sorry folks clean it again! 🤷♀️🤔

Vibes? Excellent. Food? Stellar. We had a group of 6 and got a few pizzas and a salad to share. HOWEVER there is a $5 PER PERSON cake cutting fee to be aware of if you go to celebrate a birthday. Not listed on menu or website so something to be aware of!
Ghisallo in Santa Monica is a laid‑back Italian spot with seriously good pizza. By day, grab New York‑style slices that are crisp yet chewy; by night, enjoy whole wood‑fired pies with bold, seasonal toppings like truffle mushrooms or nduja drizzled in honey. The sour dough is airy and blistered, the salads are vibrant and fresh, and the back patio under the pepper tree feels like a hidden gem. Service is friendly, the vibe’s casual, and prices—around $5–7 per slice or $18–25 per whole pie—can feel a bit steep. It’s worth it for food this good, but expect to splurge just a bit.

Excellent pizza, mostly shaded patio seating in the back, and for lunch the fact that they do slices, not just whole pies, is very handy. They are part of Jyan Isaac Bakery and could use better signage inside (heck, ANY signage, unless I totally missed it) pointing you to go to the bath patio for pizza.

I love their pizzas. Great quality. But service has been a little… careless
Had lunch here for the first time and it was just okay, and really expensive. I paid $61 dollars for 2 slices of pizza, 2 iced teas, and half of a sandwich to go. Service was okay, but seemed slow and disorganized for what we ordered. Pictured here is a slice of the meatball pizza. Not much meat, or ball on this slice. Definitely not a high value on this meal, especially since I just returned from Italy and an entire Porchetta sandwich was 7 euros and not $21 dollars!
The dine LA winter 2026 menu is a good deal here as it is $35 per person before tax and tip and each person gets a starter, pizza, and dessert. However starters came out lukewarm like they had been sitting out for a while and the pizzas were crispy outside and very soft in the center. Unsure if it is due to the toppings making the middle soft and mushy.
Honestly I was a bit disappointed… I don’t know if it was my expectations being to high before trying Ghisallo, but this visit did not accommodate. Overall what brought my experience down what the service. It took a long time before I was able to order, the server was not too knowledgeable about their products (might have been new), and he forgot about half my order. The pizza slice was quite dry and soggy. Recommendations, order a whole pizza and not just the slice. The quality of the pizza is totally different. Lastly, please buy a slice of their chocolate cake to share as a dessert. The richness is bold and flavorful, perfect with a cup of coffee on the side. I would come back for the cake!
A little bit of a cluster fudge... Busy, confused, chaotic, staff are either off their game or just confused. But the food is pretty good. Business plan pro tip, open a good pizza joint nearby :).... Location seems to be their biggest advantage, but the food is REALLY good.... 2 stars to remind myself the yummy isn't worth the yucky

pizza good ! overpriced ! don’t order pasta smallest portion i have ever had big rip off joint
We went there a while ago and sat outside in the back. We were enjoying our meal until we realized there were 50+ rats crawling through the fences and tree in the middle of the courtyard. Literally, rats in a tree over people eating dinner. When we mentioned this to our waiter they told us they knew about the rat problem and they spray once a week, but assured us they were not in the kitchen. We had ordered several pizzas and a salad which we were enjoying until we noticed the rats, but after that we of course did not eat anything more. The staff, while nice, charged us for the full price of our meal despite us not eating. We called the next day and the manager let us know they’d leave $25 gift certificate in front for us, we never picked it up. We hope they’ve fixed this problem since but if they have not, we do not recommend going as it is a serious problem and there is no way they are not in the kitchen.
Ordered a Market Veggie and Buffalo Chicken for a team lunch and one of the slices came with a lock washer which I conveniently bit into and chipped a quarter off my premolar. There is undoubtedly a tool in their kitchen that this fell off of. Their head chef knows it because he apologized, went to investigate it, came back with a concerned look but went straight to the manager to ask what to do. The manager denied that it could have come from them as if I'm taking time out of my day to plant washers in their pizza and chip my teeth for some kind of payout. My ask was for them to pay for the cost of repair when I bring them an invoice, which would cost less than $500. Does it trouble you that much to own up to a small mistake and make fair to your customer?
Terribly disappointing cheese pizza. After the 1st slice and it cooled down a bit, the 2nd slice was like biting into a slab of rubber. With no tomato-based pizza sauce it was very dry. For $34 bucks we expected something more impressive. The Middle school kids that hang out there, I guess, don't notice. Do yourself a favor...Don't waste your time here.
