Opinions de Tsukiji Sushi Santa Monica
I have been visiting this location for many years, and I have failed to leave a review. Today I promised myself I would review this delicious Sushi Restaurant. My sushi chef Kai recommended the sashimi plate, which he artfully decorated with edible flowers , leaves and different types of sauce. The dish was absolutely amazing. I have been eating sushi for a very long time I have learned to appreciate the best and extras. For dessert I had the Unagi, which is ill with light Unagi sauce also extremely delicious and the portions were nice as you can see in the picture. My servers name was Kamari. She was extremely helpful and cognizant of anything I needed without me asking like extra napkins and refills on my hot green tea. As I have been, I will be coming back here as long as they’re open. I highly recommend it.
We stumbled on this place by total fluke, and wow — what a find! It was FANTASTIC. Dani was our server, and she was outstanding — so helpful and kind, not just to us but also to our dog and baby (which is rare and so appreciated!). The food was absolutely delicious. The sushi was super fresh — I had the yellowfin tuna, and it melted in my mouth. The guys had salmon and it looked great. This place is such a hidden neighborhood gem. We all loved it, and I HIGHLY recommend stopping by and supporting them!
Yum! Love the tuna crispy rice & rainbow roll. Favorite place for sushi rolls in Santa Monica.
The best birthday dinner of my life, such great service and food. 10/10 recommend!!! They even gave us desert and birthday hats. Thank you for having us.
Absolutely loved this place! The food was amazing—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. On top of that, the owner was incredibly welcoming and made the whole experience even better. Can’t wait to come back!
We’ve been coming to Tsukiji for years, and it has truly become our favorite sushi spot in Santa Monica. It’s a small, intimate restaurant with an atmosphere that’s perfect for a date night, yet also welcoming for families. The quality of the sushi is absolutely unparalleled! always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Some of our must-haves are the baked salmon roll and the crab hand roll. The service is just as wonderful as the food. Dani, our server, is such a sweetheart - always attentive and genuinely kind. The entire staff is incredibly friendly and makes us feel right at home every single visit. Even our toddler son, Noah, loves coming here and tasting everything right alongside us! We’ve also noticed the new management is doing a fantastic job, everything feels extra smooth and welcoming. If you’re looking for consistently excellent sushi, a cozy atmosphere, and people who truly care about their guests, Tsukiji is the place ♥️
Love this local spot! Amazing attention to detail with beautifully plated sushi. Great people & considering the proximity to the beach its a blessing! Def recommend chefs picks & the uni always perfect
We were greeted by Alex who brought us edemamae and lemon water upon sitting. The outside area is really cute and decorated romantically but also good for family gatherings. The sushi was very fresh and the miso ramen was super delicious. We also were gifted a bowl of miso soup, the owner was very impressive. 10/10 recommend
I happened to find this place by chance while walking by and decided to have lunch. I sat outside, and the patio was cozy and beautifully decorated. The owner personally came by to greet us and check on how everything was going, which made the experience feel really welcoming. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. Definitely a great spot to enjoy good sushi in a lovely setting! 🍣🌿
Tsukiji Sushi Sen has been our regular sushi place for years. We are so happy that Alex has continued to offer the highest quality fish - we love sashimi, and this place never disappoints! Excellent service, too!!
💎A hidden gem of Santa Monica. Alex the head sushi chef has taken care of us every time. ✅Pro tip: this is one of the few restaurants with REAL WASABI. ❤️Always happy to come back and visit. Also appreciate Ian and the staff!!
“Hidden gem” would be inaccurate as it’s consistently lively with the locals who know what‘s going on here. Excellent+ sushi, reasonable prices, friendly service, and a cozy, authentic interior. My go-to spot in LA
Was in the area looking for sushi when i came across Tsukiji Sushi Sen, went for lunch with a friend. Great happy hour prices on lunch special bento box, appetizers and beer. Will definitely be going back in the future
Anytime I’m in the area I have to stop by this hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. It is so good and very fresh. They take pride in their offerings and it’s always a pleasant experience. Yum! Thank you for being on Main Street!
The food and the service were equally amazing. I definitely want to come back. Experience means a lot to me. I recommend the Awesome roll, it’s unique!
This place has quickly became my favorite sushi spot in Santa Monica - or in fact, the whole west LA. The new owner of the restaurant, Alex, made us me feel very welcomed - and the staff is always attentive and friendly. We’ve ordered e.g. seaweed salad, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi tuna roll and Philadelphia roll.. and enjoyed every bite! Special mention for their sashimi - so thick, so fresh - and did I mention the pretty presentation?!
Great HH from 2-5 for apps. For every draft beer ordered, you get the second one for $1. Boom! Cece was our server. She’s the happiest and the best…ask for her! Spicy tuna crispy rice is on point!
Great sushi, fun ambience and even better service! Our faves were the eel and cucumber roll, the toro, and the shrimp shumai. The bottle of sake was perfect for our group of 5 and the prices were great for the amount of food you get. Shout out to Christian and Alex for making sure we had a great time! Will be back soon!
An unforgettable sushi spot that instantly stands out in Los Angeles. The care and precision behind each dish were clear from the first bite. The sashimi was incredibly smooth and fresh, the tempura was light and crisp, and the hand rolls were packed with balanced flavor. Everything came together for a top notch experience.
All new staff and owner took over. Alex is the best and the quality of food drinks and atmosphere has changed. Great lunch specials and dinner choices have gone up in quality. I'm glad I stopped in as that's when I discovered everything changed.
Absolutely one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in LA. Every piece was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully plated, and incredibly fresh. From the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to the crispy tempura and the perfectly seasoned hand rolls—everything was exceptional. I especially loved the presentation—elegant but not pretentious, with just the right amount of detail. The sake was smooth and paired perfectly with the meal. It’s clear the chef puts so much care into both flavor and aesthetics. Definitely a gem in Santa Monica, and I can’t wait to come back—next time I’ll be bringing friends!
The sushi portions are generous and delicious. It’s fresh and creative. Service is excellent and the guys and sushi chef are super friendly. Good vibe excellent food.
Spicy tuna in crispy Rice!! This is my favorite sushi! It’s on the appetizer menu, but it feels like a main dish. Thanks to the lunch happy hour, I get to enjoy it at a great price. Everyone’s so kind, and the terrace is beautiful!
Hands-down, the best sushi place I’ve had in all of LA. Under new ownership and the change is notable makes you feel like you’ve been there for 10 years on your first visit. Have never had that good of Customer Service ever in any place in LA. Sushi is as good as a place that you would spend thousands of dollars And you’re only gonna spend a couple hundred. This is a must try if you’re in Santa Monica or within 10 miles.
Great sushi spot on the Main Street Santa Monica everything was fresh and yummy. For more contents follow our instagram @gemislist
Tsukiji Sushi Sen – A Taste I’ll Never Forget Tucked away in LA, Tsukiji Sushi Sen instantly transported me to Japan. Every dish—from the buttery otoro and creamy uni to the delicate shrimp and crisp tempura—was a quiet masterpiece. I came once, fell in love, and returned again just days before my flight home. That’s how unforgettable it was. The food, the people, the atmosphere—everything felt sincere. This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a reason to come back to LA.
Great sushi place. They have a little menu with vegan sushi options. We got avocado cucumber, veggie tempura and temple crispy rice that has tofu. All were delicious. The service was quick and friendly.
Alex and Diana were awesome. Immediately upon my arrival, the entire staff started singing for another guest’s birthday and went above and beyond. Service was exceptional and the bento box was amazing and a great deal. What a unique gem! I’ll definitely be back!
All the food is delicious The fish were really fresh. The staff is so kind! The food is delicious and the staff is kind, so I will come often😊
Tried Tsukiji Sushi Sen today and loved it! The new Truffle Tako was super tasty and different from anything I’ve had before. The salmon sashimi was fresh and buttery, and the salmon salad was light and refreshing. Everything went perfectly with a glass of white wine. Great food, chill vibe, and friendly service – I’ll definitely be back!
Amazing place! It’s located in the middle of Santa Monica's Main Street. I went there on a Friday night, and there was enough space for three people. I tried various sushi and sashimi dishes, all of which were impressive. I highly recommend Chutoro here. Also Engawa Sushi and Simaaji were fresh with exquisite flavors. The house sake, both cold and hot, was fantastic. The chefs were all very kind, adding to the great experience.

This sushi is INCREDIBLE. A great little gem of a restaurant with incredibly fresh fish - it is better than Wabi on Rose and Sugarfish in my opinion. Both those spots are good but you pay 2x the price. The people here are great - it is family run with the nicest people. I love going to eat here or order takeout on a Sunday/Monday. Can't recommend it enough.
I celebrated my birthday here on a Tuesday night with a group of 10, and it was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, Alex and his staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The service and atmosphere were truly 10/10. The sushi was better than expected, our favorites were the crab-stuffed fried shrimp they surprised us with on the house and the Marilyn Monroe roll. Everything came out quickly and fresh, and the pricing was extremely reasonable for such a large group. They created the perfect birthday vibe on the patio and even brought out birthday hats and sang to me, which made the night feel extra special. We made a reservation in advance for our large party and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. This place deserves to be packed every night. Highly recommend for celebrations or just a great night out!
I come here very often with my boyfriend and we absolutely love it! The atmosphere and hospitality is so amazing. We’ve been slowly trying everything on the menu and nothing has disappointed. This is the spot for sushi!
I stopped in this past Sunday and was warmly greeted by Chef Alex. Not only did he take the time, while preparing roles, to reference the highlights of the menu, he also talked me through his process of cutting and preparing individual fish-types. The place was clean and organized but had a “lived-in” feel and unique character. Highly recommend.
Very sweet neighborhood sushi spot. We came here with our two little ones and they the staff were so wonderful and accommodating for our family. Cozy casual atmosphere, fresh sushi, would recommend.

Came here with a friend after hiking in the Pacific Palisades at around 7pm on a Monday. There were a couple of other patrons but it was mostly empty. The staff didn’t greet us in Japanese although they did for other newcomers but they sat us quickly. The decor of the restaurant is upscale and pretty nice, although from the outside the restaurant is nondescript. There’s some outdoor seating, tables/booths inside, and seats at the sushi bar. We got edamame to share (5.99) and it was hot and sprinkled with salt, but nothing noteworthy. My friend got the bento box ($20.99)it’s pricier after 3pm and you can get 1 or 2 items as the primary entree (differing prices of course). She upgraded the avocado roll (a side item) to be her entree for an additional cost and also had a salad, some edamame, miso soup, and rice on the side. Our server seemed confused by the fact she wanted to upgrade her side entree to the main entree but checked in twice to make sure he got her order correct. I got the Hero roll, which was a baked sushi that was warm and slightly crunchy (13.99). There are non-sushi items for those who don’t like fish such as chicken teriyaki bowls and tempura udon. The specials are written on the chalk board behind the sushi bar. They provide a generous serving of wasabi and ginger, and the soy sauces are on the tables for you to utilize. I like that they use sustainable seafood. Parking on a weekday shouldn’t be too bad as there metered parking on the street and free parking in the neighborhoods behind. Service was alright, and they don’t check in on you but were prompt with getting the check. Overall the restaurant was fine, but if you’re craving some Japanese food in Santa Monica, I think Kazu Nori would make for a tastier experience, or you could go to Kimuya for more reasonable prices.
Just average - nothing to write home about. Surely there's a better local place somewhere else? (Wed evening at 6pm) Has some nice outdoor seating. Could be a good drinking spot but was nearly empty inside. Has the inflated LA price for food with much value added. Staff was inattentive and lacked detail. Counter seats are oddly low and lean back.

Not a fan of putting reviews but i felt ripped out here . 1. Small sushi yellow tail 32$ , over priced for a hole in the wall place . 2. Trust me , Whole Foods sushi tastes more authentic and so much better than this place . 3. Waitress had no patience to let me browse their menu instead recommended me the small portion of yellow tail sushi , 25$ plus tax and tip so 32$ in total , the sushi rice is the cheapest quality ! Hard and not sticky that separates from the seaweed. 4. after i ate , i said “thank you “ to everyone and nobody bothered to respond. 5. Very small place that the elbows of customers can rub with each other . So not worth it , go somewhere else with your money worth .
i decided to visit after seeing fairly good reviews, but unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. the food was just average. the sushi was poorly shaped and didn’t seem very fresh. the worst part, however, was the service. a young waiter avoided eye contact and continued chatting even after noticing us. throughout the meal, his attitude remained curt and unwelcoming, which completely ruined our appetite. very disappointing. i won’t be coming back.
