Before visiting I wasn't sure if $15 was going to be worth it. The answer is yes! We made a reservation, which was easy to do and filled out the waivers on-line. When we entered, we were offered a beverage, and then let into the cat area. It's a bit overwhelming at first. Lots of people, lots of cats, and some cat smell (not overwhelming, but my friend commented on it). I immediately sat on the bench next to the tortie. Before I realized it, she crawled into my lap and didn't leave for 30 minutes. I was visiting LI and away from my fur babies, the Cat Cafe was the boost I needed. I will visit again in the future. Update October 2022 I came back to LI to say goodbye to a loved one. The Shabby Tabby had been a soothing balm for my sisters and me. Little secret-if you go at 11am on weekdays (avoid holidays and school days off), you will have the place almost entirely to yourself. The other day, the kitties were getting breakfast when we got there.

Cats are well taken care of, and the person working was very sweet. Even though we went late, they weren’t pushy for us to leave at all. Adorable cats and clean place, recommended.

We adopted our first cat from here and they were so easy to work with. Everyone was so nice and kind, and clearly really cares about their kitties. 2 years later, they are still so sweet and supportive if we have a question about our cat. Highly recommend!

My cat Starbies had been missing since the end of September, and just when I was starting to lose hope, this amazing café shared his story. Their community kept commenting, sharing, and boosting the post until it finally reached my newsfeed… and that’s what brought him home. I’ll never forget the kindness and teamwork from complete strangers. Thank you, Shabby Tabby, for being a place where love for cats truly brings people together. 🐾 shout out to Ryan for answer/responding to my panicked messages and reassuring that everything was going to be alright

Absolutely love visiting with shabby tabby! I’ve got three cats from there- two seniors and a kitten- Absolutely wonderful experience! The staff is so friendly and helpful. They will do anything for those cats! The establishment is very clean and cheery. They always have an array of cats and kittens. So happy this place exists!

Me and my husband fostered 3 kittens from shabby tabby. Melanie and Ryan were absolutely wonderful! I always got a response and they love and care about the kittens so much! They have so much knowledge and when the kittens had ringworm (which didn't present until 2 weeks after we had them so this was no fault of the shabby tabby) they were right there to help us! They offered to take them and treat them but we said no! We treated them and they ended up totally fine as kittens with ring worm are totally fine. Me and my husband both took precautions when handling them and i made it out without getting infected(my husband spent every second with them and let them sleep on him). My husband got worse fungal infection from unclean gym equipment. We also have been to the kitten room multiple times and always felt that the kittens are well cared for. People who are leaving one star clearly have never loved a cat. It really breaks my heart to see people being so rude about a cat not jumping into their arms immediately and loving them or getting smacked by a cat when they came in hot approaching them. You obviously scares the cat. I have had my sweet angel for 9 years. She sleeps on me she snuggles into my face she follows me to the bathroom and around the house she purrs when she looks at me and sometimes when she's over stimulated or annoyed she swats at me. You earn a cats love and trust and when you have it it's amazing and healing. If you can't appreciate and respect the boundaries of a cat and want to put in 0 effort then you are not a cat person. I just hate that people who clearly know 0 things about cats have the most negative things to say.

Shabby Tabby is one of my favorite places — not just for what they do, but for how much they care. I’ve been going for just over a year and have adopted *7 cats* from here! Every one of them has been sweet, social, and well-rounded. I’m actually going back to adopt another this Friday (the tuxedo in the second pic!). ❣️ The staff are always kind, even when it’s busy, and I think the price is 100% worth it — especially considering how many cats they care for, now including the kitten lounge. I’ve seen some negative reviews and wanted to share my experience: Ryan and Melanie genuinely try to save every cat they can, sick or healthy. Two of my adopted cats were later diagnosed with cancer, and Shabby Tabby actually **paid for their testing** — I didn’t have to cover those costly vet bills, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. They’re also transparent — if a cat has special needs, they often offer to cover medical costs, special food etc. (I’ve seen them offer to pay for insulin for diabetic cats if adopted). They go above and beyond for every animal. And to treat any animals they know are abit under the weather. I’ve built such a strong relationship with the staff — I truly consider them family now. This place changes lives — not just for the cats, but for the people who love them. Thank you for all you do. ❣️🙏

The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe is my family's favorite place! We have adopted three wonderful black and white babies from them. Our first baby was a huge hunk of love. We kept Ryan and Melanie updated on him throughout the four years we had him. He sadly passed due to lymphoma and they were very supportive throughout. Next, we fostered a six week old kitten. She developed a little cold which is very common for cats going into new environments. They talked us through the best treatment for her and she recovered quickly.! Then she broke out in ring worm, again, very common for the babies. It shows up suddenly and there's no way to predict it. They offered to take her back and treat her but we refused. That was our baby and our responsibility. No little fungus would scare us away. I received some additional medication from them and she cleared up soon after! It never spread to our other cat or any of the people in my house. She was a foster fail and we added one more kitten shortly after. Kittens often benefit from having a kitten buddy and it isn't much more work for us. It's actually double the cuteness! It was the best decision and both kittens are so happy together! We also had a birthday party for my daughter there. It was just what she wanted! An hour of sitting around cats and letting them come and explore her on their own terms. They were taught from an early age how to respect cats. I will always support Shabby Tabby and all of their selfless hard work! The baby on the right in the picture is the one who had ring worm. She's quite the beauty now!

I’ve adopted two of my sweet angels from here and they were so easy to work with! Staff is kind, and so patient especially when so many kitties are running around all the time and making messes. I don’t think anyone realizes the difficulties of running a business, taking an active role in your stakeholders’ lives (quite literally) 24/7, having your OWN life, and then inviting strangers in just to bash the hard work you put in! Or appreciate, a lot of people appreciate it too. Just think, all these babies could be in cages in shelters, but they’re here! Roaming! Playing with toys and socializing! People get sick, bring in germs, etc. and so what? I don’t see anyone complaining about the sick kids going to school every day and getting educators sick the same way everyone is up in arms about a few cats. The “sick” cats are being well taken care of and pulled out of the cafe if needed. Gosh. I could make a longer review about some of these dumb comments. But I’m happy! And I love this place and the fun events they schedule!

My God daughter said for her graduation gift she wanted to go to a Cat Cafe. I had never heard of one! I googled Cat Cafe and found a bunch. This one promised no smell, price include as much coffee as you want, hot or iced, price was right. Cats of all ages, little fishing poles with fun things dangling. An old cat rubbed my leg and sat next to me. My God daughter came to the cat and petted her, and next she was purring and following her hand with it's head. They ere both so happy. There is a book with the pictures of all the cats and their stories. All were available for adoption, but there was no pressure. They didn't serve food, but there was a great burger place almost next door. There was a little cat food dispenser that a quarter would buy a handful of cat food. 2 cats hung out at the dispenser, begging for the food! They were so funny. One came out of the back room when he heard the noise of the dispenser. Next door is a parallel store filled with kittens! Cat lovers rejoice!

My experience with the cats was wonderful! The Shabby Tabby is clean, and the cats are well taken care of. I would like to note that it is the staff’s hospitality that makes this place shine. After being in an accident right down the road, they were there to make sure everyone was okay and even offered us water and a place to stand away from the cold. Their compassion extends far beyond their animals and I cannot recommend giving them business enough!

My mom and I have been talking about taking a trip to the shabby tabby for a while and I’m so glad we did. We got welcomed by a cat as soon as we walked in. The admission price is more than fair considering all the cats they take care of. I have nothing negative to say about any of my experience there. They have been open since 2018 and the place is very clean. They have 40 cats and you can’t smell them that’s how you know this place is very well taken care of and attended to. I love how they give a chance to all cats regardless if they’re friendly or more shy. My mom and I had a great time. I’m planning on coming back to meet the new rescues soon with my boyfriend 🐈‍⬛🐾

This place is wonderful. It's such a great alternative to cats in tiny cages at a crowded shelter. All of the cats here get to live in a home like setting and lounge out on fun cat furniture. If you are coming to visit, a drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade) is included with your visit. There are plenty of cat toys to get the kitties interested in playing. If you can't have a cat at home, you can definitely get your kitty fix here. If you are looking to bring home a new family member, they have plenty to choose from. There is also a cute shop in the front where you can buy cat themed merchandise.

My favorite place! I love the atmosphere and the kitties!! Unlimited drinks and an hour with the kitties for $15 is a great deal. I adopted my baby girl from here and she has made the best addition to my family! Couldn’t say a single bad thing about this place and love and support their mission!!

What a wonderful place full of sweet kitties, good iced tea, and friendly, caring staff. These kitties are so well cared for and looking for fur-ever homes. You can easily book time online to spend an hour playing, petting, and snuggling the cats. And when you're done, they have a cute shop in front. I highly recommend going!

I went here three times so far and its pretty cool but i suppose the staff is hit or miss. The first time I went, there was this older lady who was super sweet and explained everything so thoroughly, she mentioned that was is/was an RN, and i can fr believe it because of how warm she was. The last time I went, I tried out their new kitten lounge and for some reason the younger heavier set blonde women with glasses was being a bit difficult with just stamping my card correctly. If I pay for two tickets, I would assume I get two stamps on my card - which is how it worked for my first two visits. When she stamped my card once, she gave me some attitude and said something along the lines of "its always been like that". I tried to explain that i always buy 2 tickets, and i always got 2 stamps in the past, she just kinda stared at me and said no. Idk, just weird honestly how some staff can get kinda petty but maybe they were having a bad day. Idk if they were being weird about the stamp bc they didnt want to give me a new stamp card or comp one of the tickets for the current visit. That being said, the place itself is so cute! The cats are adorable and their initiative is admirable. Super cool to have another cat cafe on long Island that's close to home and not in huntington.

I've been to a lot of cat cafes. This one is expensive. The price to go in wasn't obvious to me and I was charged (4 entries) to the cat cafe AND kitten lounge without disclosure of pricing. We paid $70+ (we bought a sticker and I had a tea). The kids didn't get anything to drink. I'm not sure if drinks were included with the price or not, but if they were my kids lost out due to not being told they were complimentary with purchase. We denied the extra drinks and were told the price. I felt sick. $70+ !!!! I wanted to ask what for (should have walked away at that point) but I had my kids with me and I was committed. The cats weren't nice. They seemed over it. My daughter was walking to the bathroom and one walked by her and just hissed out of nowhere without any provocation. These were literally the most standoffish, angry cats I have ever seen (we love going to cat cafes and shelters and we have two cats--we are cat people). The kittens were apparently an extra experience but that wasn't disclosed to us and I was charged for both. I don't like making bad reviews and sat on this one for a while before making it but I was very disappointed with our trip here. Make sure you get upfront pricing and know that if you're bringing a family (we were 4 people) expect to pay more than $50. It is $$$$$

Cute place. It’s decorated nice, clean and there’s a lot of cat beds, toys, climbing area, etc. That’s the good part. We went to the kitten lounge first. About half of the kittens looked ill (eye problems, nasal discharge, sneezing). One kitten they said they got in last night wasn’t able to walk right. She kept flipping around and was drooling. The worker put her in a kennel with food water, litter and a bed. The kitten continued to look very ill and landed in the water bowl when it was trying to walk. I informed the worker, and she just said”yeah.” She didn’t seem concerned at all. Then we moved on to the cat side. The employee was much more welcoming, and we enjoyed seeing the cats. This side also had several sick cats. I appreciate them trying to save cats and adopt them out, but several needed vet attention and shouldn’t be in the visiting area until they’re healthy.

Well.. before I to write a review, I went on to check the 1 star reviews and noticed the responses from the "the owner". I strongly believe the owner is too busy at the business and probably hired a recent high school grad to take care to respond the reviews. This person is literally a bully. No business owner, no matter how confident, answers the reviews in this manner. My experience aligned with those who left them 1 star. This business is a scam. Sooner or later they will get in the trouble. The way I understand their business model is this... 1. They get/buy a cat to showcase 2. They want multiple people to see the cat (it's $17 per person). 3. If you are in the beginning of the queue, they will give you the most bizarre excuse to refuse to give the pet (mine was "discrepancy" among the family to select the kitten. The discrepancy being mentioned here is coming from a 8 years old autistic boy who was debating to select between the two cats). Yes, we have experienced just what most have experienced here. 1. We wanted a single cat 2. We were introduced with one 3. We fill the application 4. A few days later, we were told it comes as a pair 5. We were asked to revisit with the expectation that the $72 will be re-charged (how is it our fault if we selected one cat at the shop and "your mismanagement" discovered it was a pair???) There is no phone number to call. The only way to communicate is email. The average respond time is about 30 hours. Good luck waiting in the anxiety. Owning a pet should be a super pleasant experience. Yet, I don't see this happening here. Last, every business sees issues coming from the customers. I have seen majority of the time they are being handled diligently online. However, here the recent grad will reply with utter disrespect publicly. I don't really care about it as many will gain the benefit from this review I am sure.

Very friendly and kind staff. Love visiting. Update part 2 after they replied: Yes, I can change my review and opinion when facts change. That’s what called be an informed adult. I posted everything and there’s no bullying. Holding you accountable by proving your lies is not bullying. Be an adult and take accountability. Your response proves my point. Extremely unprofessional. Also, you only blocked me on Facebook, so how can I be salty? Even IF you were to block me on other forms of social media, why would I care? I’m never supporting you again, therefore, I never want to see your content. Also, look at how many hearts this review has received since I updated the review. Clearly, YOU have a problem. Update as of July 2025: Extremely disappointed and heartbroken by my experience at The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe. I visited the cafe and fell in love with a cat named Meadow. I was told by staff that Meadow could only be adopted with her kitten, Button, because Button still needed her mom to survive. Since I could only adopt one cat, I respected that policy and passed. A week later, I was shocked to see that Meadow had been adopted, without Button. Around the same time, Button's health began to decline, and the cafe made posts describing her as wasting away, skin and bones, and unable to absorb nutrients. When I inquired why Meadow was separated from Button, especially after they told me the two couldn't be split, the cafe denied ever saying they were bonded, even though they mentioned on Facebook that Button was declining without the nutrition from her mother’s milk. Worse, they later misrepresented my concern in a public post, suggesting someone accused them of “killing” Button - a statement I never made. I simply warned that if Button passed away after being separated from her mother, the decision would have consequences. This experience made me lose trust in how this organization manages adoptions and handles vulnerable animals. The lack of transparency, accountability, and follow-through on their own policies is deeply troubling. Animal rescue requires responsibility and consistency — not rewriting the story when things go wrong.
