We did the dinner for 2 choice. Each had the prime rib and couldn't have been happier with the choice! Perfectly cooked, great seasoning and horseradish sauce! We did wine pairing with it as well. The goat cheese and habenaro jam appetizer was 10/10!
Steak and eggs for breakfast? Count us in! Hereford House launched a brunch menu serving up some incredibly delicious dishes. From mouthwatering steak & eggs to delightful biscuits & gravy to amazing hot honey chicken & waffles, Hereford House needs to be on your list of brunch spots to check out in the greater Kansas City area. We started off with house bread and some mimosas. The service was great and the food came out reasonably quick! If you are craving steak and eggs for breakfast, Hereford House is the spot to check out.
I’ve had a really good and enjoyable time the past couple night here in Shawnee. Great food, outstanding drinks, and good atmosphere with delightful music. I’ve enjoyed the wedge, the 1957 salad, the kebabs, the meatloaf, and the long islands. Good Times.
I enjoyed the dine-in experience. Food was great. Service was spot-on. Atmosphere was good. Plenty of parking. I would say the cost is more than the average place but I thought it was worth it.
2nd restaurant week dining. Hereford House off Midland & 435 is conveniently located with plenty of private parking. Promptly seated and drinks promptly served. Great 'restaurant week' menu with the steakburger being my favorite. This isn't your fast food dining, so had to wait awhile for the burger, but the result was a juicy(not too juicy) very delicious and per the pic(s) a hearty burger. $15 for burger, fries & fudge brownie (+2.50 for iced tea), this was a very positive experience. Shout-out to Israel for his attentive service.
We were at the restaurant during lunch. We ordered from the lunch menu. We started with house salads which were made of crisp iceberg lettuce and purple cabbage. They were generously sized with sliced grape tomatoes, cucumbers and large toasted croutons. The salad was served cold! A mini loaf of warm white bread was served with the salad. It reminded me of my grandma's dinner rolls! Yummy! My husband ordered the 10 oz. strip and I ordered the 5 oz. medallion. We both chose loaded baked potatoes as our side. Our steaks were perfectly prepared and well seasoned. No steak sauce needed! The meat used for both cuts was very tender. Very very good. The baked potatoes were hot and nicely sized, fluffy and well seasoned. Fully loaded included bacon, cheese, chives, sour cream and butter. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. She refreshed our beverages and checked on us from time to time.
Wanting for early dinner, about 5 pm. Dinner was a ribeye, green beans and potatoes. Drink was sourmash on the rocks. The potatoes and beans were well prepared and tasty. The "meat of the matter", the ribeye was excellent, perfectly grilled and exactly as ordered. The sourmash was a very generous pour. The service provided by Patricia was that perfect balance of service and attentive watchfulness from a distance. No hovering or unnecessary visits to make sure everything is OK. The evening was so pleasant I spend a while at the bar enjoying pleasant conversation with a few of the locals and the bar tender, who provided the same style of exceptional service as Patricia. A great evening out.
Literally 3 miles from my apartment and right off the highway. Not sure why I have slept on this phenomenal restaurant! 🤷🏾♂️. Hostess sat us at a 4 top table and kindly relocated us to an intimate booth upon our request. The Prime Rib hits the mark! 🎯. So savory. And i would be remiss if I didn't mention the raw horseradish sauce! Big Fan of Hereford House! 🙋🏾♂️
I always leave the Hereford house in Shawnee feeling so happy with the service and food. Bobbie was AMAZING in answering my questions and helping me find a meal that was Whole30 approved. Max was very attentive as well and made the experience very enjoyable! Can’t wait to come back!! Thank you!!
This was a truly amazing experience! Fun times, great food, excellent service!
100% Good.. The Food, Service, and, Atmosphere..
Our group of three went here to eat for an early dinner. Our waitress Anna killed it. I had the herf and turf. The food was excellent and the service was more than we could ask for. We will definitely keep coming back to this great establishmant!!!
MY BIRTHDAY IS TODAY. I ATE THERE LAST NIGHT AND ORDERED A 30OZ PRIME RIB. YES I ATE EVERYTHING. I NORMALLY GET A 40 OZ. LOL I HAVE BEEN EATING THERESINCE I WAS KID. DOWNTOWN AND THE SHAWNEE AND LEAWOOD. BOTH LOCATIONS ARE GREAT. SHAWNEE IS EASIER TO GET INTO. THANK YOU TO THE OWNER MARK AND STAFF FOR ALL THESE YEARS FOR GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. I WILL ALWAYS BE BACK!!
We had a wonderful family dinner with 8 of us on Saturday April12, 2025. Sherry was our server and she did a great job explaining the menu, giving us recommendations, keeping our drinks flowing and serving us dinner including appetizers, dinner and dessert! She made our dining experience a great one! The food was all delicious including dessert! Thank you Hereford House for a wonderful evening!
We had yet another amazing experience here. The staff is always so wonderful and accommodating. Kelly does such an outstanding job and with Gene is wonderful! Food was top notch. Thank you!
We celebrated my 77th Birthday there tonight. My son had the meatloaf and loved it. We shared the stuffed mushrooms, they were outstanding. We also shared the 1957 salad, good. My dinner choice was the Herf & Terf. It was very disappointing. My filet wasn't good and the lobster was disappointing. We would definitely go again but I would order differently.
Usually a great experience. Sometimes you get a server who isn't well trained and they mess up. Not as good as it once was but still worth going.
Excellent restaurant. Simple menu with a lot of variety.
My wife and I were in town for the NASCAR race and found this place, as it was nearby our hotel. We loved it. The food, atmosphere and employees were outstanding. Bartenders Emily and Ally were amazing! They made our visit exceptional. Those 2 are keepers and deserve recognition. We were also greeted by one of the managers - Ashley, who also was fantastic. The food was wonderful. I had the ribs and my wife had the steakburger - said it was the best burger she ever had (and she is a burger freak). We visited a second night and had the steak sandwich (split it) and onion rings - both crazy good. We also appreciated the happy hour pricing - beers were cheaper here than anywhere else we visited. Overall, they deserve a 5+ star rating. Thank you for everything!!!
A Kansas City standard that won't break the bank. Had guest from out of town to meet, have a slow paced meal and get to know each other. Service was generally attentive even with a teenager drinking water like a camel with empty glasses at each turn of the server's back. Initial bread offered to the table, good selection of appetizers. Wine menu is decent and the spirits selection is above average. Hard to go wrong with a Kansas City Strip here, comes with a side. Medium rare plus is optimal. Dessert options are 4 plus a special. Billionaire chocolate cake rules them all....
I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and stuffed mushrooms. Both were excellently prepared and delicious. My server Kelly was super nice and took great care of me. Highly suggest you visit.
Best steak I’ve had in a while! Highly recommend if you’re looking for great quality food.
The food was very good, the best part was the carrot cake. Absolutely out of this world. The environment was nice and relaxed in the area we were in. Definitely would visit here again. Oh and Bobbi was a great server she took great care of us.
Went when it wasn't busy. Service was great. Appetizers: stuffed mushrooms - I enjoyed! Calamari - I enjoyed. Onion rings - eh. Wedge salad was good. For beef skewers, I was an extra $12 on top of the price of the salad. Pricey. Lobster was good. My meat was a bit bland and a bit overcooked to my liking, but it wasn't a big deal. I still ate it. The prime rib was very good. Sides were bland. Eh. I did have high expectations since I've heard so many positive reviews from people I know about it. It didn't really meet my expectations. Maybe will give it another try one in the next few months.
Eaten here many times and tonight was delicious. Avianna was superb and Sheri was great as always. Delicious and hearty shrimp and incredible wedge salad. Keep up the great work!
***Thanksgiving Meal Review **** The food was a limited menu. Stew was very good but very small Turkey = seemed like processed canned meat quality. Wasn't actual Turkey. Prime Rib.= very small serving with mostly fat. (*3-4 bites of meat in all) Stuffing and Creamed Corn were being heated til they had a scorched pan flavor Green Bean Casserole was as expected Sweet potatoes were good Mashed potatoes (I didn't try those) Pumkin pie was frozen food quality . Carrots cake - this was seriously delicious Service was as good as can be expected for Thanksgiving staffing. I wasn't like expecting it to be super fast or noteworthy. The staff were friendly and they showed up so 5 stars for them. (*and we were a party of 12) The meal was expensive but was a good tradeoff for not having to cook and clean up! Thanks for offering to work on Thanksgiving!
Had Father's Day dinner tonight with family. Our server, Pat, was tentative and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered a mango mojito. There was no mango flavoring at all. Regardless, it was a very good mojito. I would order it again. We started with calamari and buffalo wings. Both were delicious. We also had plenty of rolls with honey butter. Beyond amazing. My husband and I picked from the dinner for 2 menu. My husband chose a medium rare ribeye with mashed potatoes and grilled brussel sprouts. He enjoyed his meal. Said it was cooked just right. I first chose grilled salmon. I looked forward all day to this. To my disappointment, they ran out 😩 My second choice was a medium well sirloin with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and corn. Although I really wanted salmon, my plate was delicious. I wish I had ordered medium instead. We will be returning. Our visit was pleasant.
Some of the best steak we've ever had! Menu is a bit on the pricier side, but the portions are substantial. Great flavor, seasoning, and the steak cuts like butter: both the prime rib and ribeye. Their steak fries are great too! Service was a bit slow in the beginning, but afterwards, it was great.
Hereford House has an amazing brunch that is a great value and not the usual price tag. Great place for Brunch and Happy Hour.
We went for Father's Day so I can say it was very busy. A little more noisy than usual I imagine. The food was outstanding. The beef was topnotch. Sides were plentiful, horseradish was perfect traditional We had the KC strip and prime rib. The service was good in as much as they always made everything right. There was a lot of mistakes though. They got my wife's two sides wrong. Replaced them though. Clearly our order sat for too long and was less than piping hot. The "loaded" baked potato was not really loaded, especially for an expensive steak house. All in there was less than two tablespoons of cheese, bacon, and sour cream. The pricing was strange too. They did not have a surf and turf option. You are forced to buy the 6 oz lobster tail a la carte which means the price of a third meal without the meal. Her main course ran better than 70 bucks. They advertised free dessert for Father's Day and we ordered that as well as the soup to take home. Turns out the dessert we wanted was not on the list of free dessert so that was another 9 bucks. She did offer to give me another free dessert from the list to take home and when we broke into it later I had two carrot cakes. Oh, and they didn't honor the daily special so we paid full price for the prime rib. When you step back it looks like the negatives outweighed the positives. The food was so good I might be willing to take that one hour drive again.
Had dinner here after hearing how amazing it is on a recent trip to KC and it was a good experience, not the best steak I've ever had but it the food and experience were high quality for the price. Service was outstanding, our table was ready as soon as we arrived as I had made a reservation, food came out quickly for it being a Sunday evening. The bread and butter were outstanding, food that wasn't steak (burger and salmon) was said to be just okay, but more reasonably priced than the steak. The only thing I'll mention, although it didn't end up being an issue for us since we changed our reservation due to delays and only ended up with six people in our party, is they require one check and mandatory gratuity for parties of seven or more. As an adult, I totally understand that, but since we were traveling with kids, paying their own way, it would have been an issue for us. I would come back here, but for a once-off trip to KC, I feel like there are better places to go for steak, especially when the original location that had charm years ago is gone and this one, while it was a good experience, kind of felt like your average chain steakhouse and not anything special.
Honestly after eating I would've given the food a 4 out of 5 stars. The steak seemed to be cooked correctly and to order but I felt absolutely sick to my stomach an hour after leaving the restaurant. I had the Kansas city strip steak. It tasted fine, looked fine but my stomach is absolutely hurling after that unfortunately. Restaurant design and cleanliness is top notch. And service was great too didnt wait long and waitress was very kind and attentive to refills. Again I think this is Definitely worth a stop in I might have just got unlucky with the steak.
I ordered a to go prime rib 16oz and it is just ok. I don’t see how the price is justified. The Mac And cheese is also just ok. The au jus and ranch help save it. The employees were nice, however.
Easy to find with plenty of parking. The princess and I went out with some friends last night and they chose the Hereford house. We agreed that the last time we went there was many years ago and we should give them another try. I'm sure it will be many years before we go back. Nothing particularly wrong with our food, service or atmosphere just very basic and average. Given the prices I expect something special when the establishment is so proud with their pricing. I had the pear and goat cheese salad with the bacon wrapped shrimp and shared some of the princesses ribeye. The salad was delicious the shrimp was not fresh and smelled fishy. The ribeye was prepared perfectly and was quite tasty but very thin, small portions vs the large price. The hot bread was the best part! I would go to any number of better steak houses before I go back.
Service at the bar, really great! The signature drinks were tasty but pricey. Kinda expected that for a place near the hotel...but they were delicious. I had the Spinach artichoke dip to start, not impressed. Very vinegary, sour...something. it wasn't flavorful. It was bland but sharp, Idk, it was overwhelmingly not delicious. I was disappointed as I look at the menu before I came & was excited to use my allowance of carbs on the chips. I only had a few bites & pushed it to the side. For dinner I got their signature burger, the that comes with Bleu cheese crumbles. No bun. Ordered MEDIUM, it was WELL DONE It came with Blue cheese crumbles, which i had always shyed away from but thought, "they must know what they're doing, ill go with it". I should have kept it simple. It was so salty i cut the top half off. The burger itself is nice, it didnt need all that extra stuff. I also don't remember the menu mentioning it was a deluxe burger, but it came with everything. Which i dont care for and would have asked for no onion, no pickle. I suppose I had my hopes set too high & was disappointed. I had 2 mixed drinks & a seltzer, was waiting for the football game to come on & the bartender brought me my check. I didnt ask to check out. I would have stayed for several more cocktails and football but she made me feel weird, so I was like, its fine, I'll go. I still had 3/4 of the one seltzer pint i ordered, went to the restroom, came back & my place was cleared, my water and nearly full pint pulled to the bar matt, my check was gone. Like she thought I walked out on my check!?!?! Are you kidding me!?!? Too bad, because im staying next door at the hotel for the next 10 days. No hotel bar. & im a pretty good tipper. Of course I reduced the tip to 20% for the poor service at the end. (I started this review before she brought my check, then cleared my spot when i went to the restroom) Hated to leave jaded, but she did this. Not me. EDITED TO UPDATE --THE SOUR FLAVOR IN THAT SPINACH DIP WOULD BE THE SPOILED CREAM CHEESE OR OTHER INGREDIENT!! WHAT TRANSPIRED FOR THE NEXT 3 HRS WAS TORTUROUS. FOOD POISONING. My stomach started hurting on the walk back to the hotel. I went in, laid down, and for the next 3 hrs was i was begging the universe to just let this pass or take me with it. I was in so much pain, I almost called for help. It had to be the Spinach artichoke dip. What an awful experience
I had looked forward to Hereford House since my visit in 1999 as a kid to the original. Kansas strip was split between two. Sides are good. But, steak was mostly fat and grissel. Decent taste, but just not what I remember. The service was just fine. Not spectacular as I recall.
It's a little on the high end steak house, I have been there a few times but the last 2 visits I haven't been pleased with my steak. Not sure if it is the way they are prepared or the quality of the meat. On the bright side the Carrot Cake was pretty good. There are to many other great options in the area so I likely won't risk my money again.
Sadly, the food was a weak three while the service was a strong five - an unusual combination. The prime rib was pitiful and WAY overpriced. I'm a big fan of prime rib, so that was a huge disappointment.
Everyone raves about Hereford House, Appetizers were good, Service, attentive, friendly, accommodating. It was a client dinner, therefore I didn't send my filet back. Ordered medium rare to rare, Filet was well done. Side of mushrooms void of flavor and dry, no butter, just tough and dry. Desserts were exceptional, wouldn't hesitate to go just for dessert.
Service and atmosphere were just fine but food was bad. The asparagus didn’t taste freshly cooked and I barely took one bite of the bacon Mac n cheese.. lacked any type of flavor and the texture tasted like it was fake cheese. I ordered medium rare steak- but the bacon was so raw it was like it came straight from the fridge. Lobster was good but the plate was $65 and wasn’t worth it at all. Madison our waitress was very kind and provided me a back-up side dish because I didn’t like the Mac but the food just wasn’t good, unfortunately.
Our steaks were tough, hard to cut,I ordered a med prime rib,it came out well done,Emily our server, which also the biggest part of making the visit enjoyable, switched immediately, our appetizer which was calamari was good, along with the 1957 salad which was in my opinion the best part of the meal. My husband ordered the KC steak, which was so tough, his hand cramped up trying to cut it,he ordered baked potato, received mashed. Not happy! No plans to return for a very long time if at all.
My wife reserved us a table for a belated birthday gift and we both wound up quite disappointed. When we entered the lack of host at the front for a couple minutes should have been a sign. We ordered drinks and the Dinner for Two. The drinks eventually came out and the honey BBQ chicken appetizer was pretty decent. As the next course came out I put in an order for another drink. The stew was also decent but the salad was lackluster. The main course, for us prime ribs, mashed potatoes and an order of broccoli Parmesan and an order of garlic butter green beans were respectively, lukewarm, lukewarm, cool, and half cool/half cold. It was not inedible just sad and cold. After we finished eating that my second drink finally arrived. The only redeeming food item was the dessert an apple crisp that was actually hot. While we ate we were treated to depressing medical drama on the TVs that was quiet enough we couldn't hear but boy did the commercials come through the PA system. As we paid and then left I realized we never received the complimentary bread, which tee'd me over enough to write this. I assume this isn't the norm here but I do not plan on risking that again for the price we paid.
All three of us had steaks that were raw. Sent them all back and they were still not done. Not sure if they had a new chef but we have never had this problem before. We all ordered med rare. Not sure if we will be back there.
Arrived at 8pm, thinking it would be fine since hours are until 9 pm. Guess we were wrong. I've had better prepared filet on an airline. That should tell you everything you need to know, but let me bore you just a tad more. I come to town about 4x per year. I've eaten there numerous times. So, thinking that I'd do the proper thing and take my mother to dinner, I wanted something a tad more than Longhorn. We were greeted by the host in a very demure way. He was gracious and warm. Our server was right over, so I thought my previous visits were going to be repeated. We order, and the food is served timely and as ordered. That's the end of the good. I know to order medium to ensure the best taste. As stated, I've had better filet on a plane. The cut was cooked medium, but it was totally lacking all flavor. Keep in mind this is coming from the whitest person on the planet. I'm so white that my spices are salt, sourcream, cream cheese, and milk. So if I'm saying it has no taste....just imagine. I kindly ask the server what steak sauces they have so I can have some flavor. For the money charged, no thank you! I will go to a chain before going there again. Heck, I've had more flavorful steak from time to time at Applebee's. The tabletop and the benches were well worn, including rips I the covering. The server was efficient but obviously put out that a table was seated at 8pm. He was attentive but was rushing my 75 y/o mother to finish her meal so he could go home.
Everything was extremely salty. Pork was a little dry. Also had the sampler apps. The fried stuffed mushrooms would have been good if they were not a soggy mess. They kinda of tastes like a crab Rangoon in a mushroom but just under fried. Popcorn chicken and hot honey chili sauce was good.
Terrible food and my fillet was overcooked and had a liver flavor.. I ordered the cheddar ranch potatoes for the side and it honestly tasted like something you would buy Frozen from the grocery store. My husband ordered a ribeye and it was not very good either. Very low quality food at a very high price. Won't go back again and do not recommend.
Despicably overpriced for low quality food. 2 steaks were overcooked and kids steaks were absolutely raw. Dessert was horrible basically blueberry syrup and whipped cream. Sides were basic and bland - little to no seasoning. Undercooked asparagus that looks like its on roids. Salad was good LOL
I ate at the bar on Thursday night. The bar tender was nice. She did a good job. I ordered the large ribeye medium-rare. Came out almost medium-well. They remade it and it came out less than rare, almost blue. I ate the parts cooked the most and it was less than half the steak. The manager on duty did not remove or discount the steak until I asked if there policy was to have people pay for food not made correctly. She agreed the steak was not cooked correctly but was annoyed I asked her about it. She ended up taking $20 off the $56 steak and acted like that was doing me a favor. I gave the bartender (nice young lady) a tip after paying and plan to call the GM on Monday. I will update my review at that time.
We went for Valentines Day/ our anniversary and we were very disappointed!!! The music went from very loud to being turned on and off. The kitchen was blasting music which could be heard through the dining area. The table was not completely set up for us. When we received our meals both steaks were super undercooked and very very red! Our server was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. I stopped receiving refills half way through our trip while my spouse continued to receive water refills. We were gonna say something about the meal but by the time she came around it had been 20+ mins after we received our meals and we had reservations elsewhere that night. Overall just very disappointing considering the price and it being our anniversary/Valentine’s Day.
Excessively slow service and felt ignored. Sent our steaks back two. TWO. times and by the time the steaks finally came out they were blackened and dry. I wouldve been embarassed to serve that to a customer. In all fairness, the artichoke dip was amazing as was the dessert. The ticket was adjusted for the inconvenience and we still tipped well. Texas Roadhouse... even Outback is better than this place.
