Opinions de Elvira's Mexican Grill Simi Valley
We decided to celebrate our anniversary here... A simple neighborhood place. Great food, lovely staff, reasonably priced, and locally owned. Favorites are the fajitas, enchiladas suizas, carnitas. The churros are the bomb! And the margaritas are strong & flavorful. Really like the Black Widow Margarita.
First time here. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff. We started with chips and salsa. I appreciated that you can get a small side of guacamole. I had the Chile Relleno combo with a chicken enchilada. My wife had the steak and shrimp fajitas. The Chile Relleno was the best. It was stuffed with real Mexican cheese. Very tasty. The chicken enchilada was good, bit needed more chicken. The fajitas were tasty, but maybe not the best we've tried. Still worth getting. We left extremely full and satisfied. Our waiter was super friendly. We will be back.
I recently made the journey from Palmdale to experience this charming eatery, and it was well worth it. Though the space is cozy, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff's attentiveness made us feel right at home. Our server was exceptional—attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our glasses were never empty and that we had everything we needed. The kitchen deserves special mention; the dishes were bursting with flavor, showcasing the chefs' dedication and skill. Overall, the combination of delightful cuisine, attentive service, and a welcoming ambiance made for a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area or willing to make the trip.
This place was great. Service was on point every step of the meal. Inside there are beautiful pieces of art. They keep the lights low which is romantic, but not so low you can't see your food. Food was good. Portions were plentiful. Would come again.
My wife and I decided to come here to grab lunch because we were near by. My wife wanted a new Mexican place so I saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I came right when they open so I got the parking in the front. We got seated right away and then a lot of people starting coming after us. They started off giving us chips and salsa which were really good. My wife got their horchata drink which she loved and I asked for a Pepsi but it was flat so I got water instead. For our entrees, my wife got their Chicken Mole and she really enjoyed her dish. I got the steak and chicken fajitas, I asked for flour tortilla and no beans. When they brought the fajitas to me, it wasn't sizzling like other places when you see people order it but the dish was hot. The steak and chicken were seasoned nicely but you don't get a lot of veggies besides onions. I also didn't get any sauce with it so I used the chips salsa which give it some extra taste. The customer service was great especially when they only had 1 waitress working and we had a great time dining here.
We loved our first meal at Elvira's. We're vegetarian and sometimes have difficulty finding quality vegetarian Mexican food. That definitely was not a problem at Elvira's. We ordered a vegetarian fajita salad and a vegetarian fajita with an extra order of tortillas so I could share it with my young son. We also had a Corona Light and a 20 oz. 805 draft beer. The veggie fajita came with thinly sliced yellow squash, zucchini, onion and green pepper served on a smoking hot cat iron skillet. They were well seasoned and tender crisp. The fajita came with a small side of guacamole and salsa, plus Mexican rice and black beans. This was a truly delicious meal--maybe in the top 3 best vegetarian Mexican meals I've ever had. The veggie fajita salad was prepared table side. Check out the photo of our waiter preparing it. It included the same vegetables as the traditional fajita, but with lettuce, avocado and dressing. My wife really liked it, but she craved starchy food with it, so she ate one of my tortillas. I highly recommend Elvira's for an authentic Mexican experience. The staff were so friendly, including the owner, who stopped by to chat. Prices are reasonable, too, and the service was amazing, but if you're going on a weekend night ( Fri/Sat), definitely arrive early (by 5:30) or you'll have a long Wait for seating and to have your meal.
So anyone who is looking for some good food you will not be disappointed. This place will get you right. Me and my sister came to visit Revelation Church and was in Simi Valley for 5 day and this was the place we ate all 5 days. We tried something different on the menu everyday and was never disappointed. Not only was the food delicious but the staff was amazing, the prices are affordable, and the service is fast! The must have are; the table side guacamole, the chicken or shrimp wraps, fajita salad, Camarones a la Diablo shrimp, and fajita el patron, the drinks are also really good; I loved the horchata and my sister enjoyed the BIG Margarita and the hibiscus. However everything is delicious!!! I will miss this place when we get back to Myrtle Beach SC. WE WILL BE BACK!!! Christina thank you for the awesome food, great service and wonderful conversations. You will see us again. Blessings
Love this cute place! One of these stars is dedicated to the free tootsie rolls. Everyone is super friendly and the food is spiced differently so it doesn't taste like every other Mexican restaurant. Just loved it and loved reading their story on the menu.
Absolutely amazing😍❤️ Had to take pictures after we had already started eating but the atmosphere was so inviting and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. Now the food….. the food alone was extremely delicious 🤤 shout out to the cooks for making such amazing meals that we couldn’t put the forks down till our plates were clean! They make sure to give you more than enough and no long wait. Recommend everyone to stop by!!!
Wow, what a sweet find! Great atmosphere, delicious authentic Mexican food, and very friendly welcoming staff. The service was excellent! We talked with the owners and what a breath of fresh air. They make a point to chat with all of their customers. Homey and friendly place. Did I mention incredible salsa and large glasses for margaritas and beer! Delicious food. I felt like I was eating in my grandma's kitchen. They are expanding and will have a cantina next door. Great place! Enjoy! We will definitely be coming back, I'm sure with regularity. Thank you Tim and Christina for an enjoyable evening out!
These guys hit it on all that counts! The service was great from the second I walked in until I left! Food was excellent and the atmosphere was fun! That's a lot of exclamation points but they earned it! I started with the House Margarita with Chips and Salsa, both were great but the salsa was to die for. I had the Fajitas El Patron for dinner, OMG...the steak and chicken were so tender they could both be cut with a fork and the flavor was spectacular. Loved the shrimp too and the veggies were caramelized to perfection. Can't wait to come back!
Excellent service. The staff was so nice and personable. Let's talk about the food!!! My fajitas were excellent. The steak and shrimp were seasoned not over cooked! A very healthy portion of everything. The beans were good, guac was fresh. I was told there's a location out near where I live. I have seen it before and I'm excited to go try it!
A Hidden Gem for Authentic Mexican Cuisine and Great Vibes! If you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food, look no further! This relatively new spot in town has quickly become one of my favorite places to dine. The dishes are packed with traditional flavors that transport you straight to Mexico—everything tastes fresh and made with care. Their happy hour is fantastic, with great deals that make it easy to indulge. And if you’re looking for a fun night out, don’t miss their live music on Thursday nights! The atmosphere is lively, warm, and welcoming—a perfect spot to bring friends or unwind after a long day. This place deserves all the love, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves great food and good vibes. Spread the word—more people need to experience this gem!
Fast and friendly service, food came out super quick and hot, and tasted delicious! I got the grilled steak fajita burrito. Will definitely come back.
First came the chips N salsa... Mmm actually pretty good. Ok ok.. Salsa was different., it actually had a good kick not hot but flavors were there. Upon ordering the nice bonita lady was very helpful, she checked for food availability and options. Que rica, verdad. Then once all food arrived. Now this alone was the challenge, the carne asada burrito was good but began to lag. I felt it fading then i began to realize i needed that special ingredient... SALT. Once it was inserted, it was like George Mcfly punched out Biff and i was back in the game playing Earth Angel in perfect chord. Yes salt was the magic ingredient, it's been lacking lately in many latin joints in the states. Once that was added, dang i could go more rounds, if the tummy could hold such flavor. Really salt is the key ingredient if lard isn't being used, gosh what a good comeback. This was the 5 star over the top, that Baño was awesome on point. Yes, Ambiance en total was where all goodness comes together. The gwapas there were very nice, tan dulce Traiga a amigos y familiares a este hermoso restaurante. Tiene grandes sabores para la vista y para el estómago para disfrutar.
We did takeout the first time trying Elvira’s. We dined in tonight for the first time. Everything I’ve tried has been amazing. Chips and salsa are great. Salsa does have a kick if you’re sensitive to spicy. Between our two visits so far, we’ve tried the Enchiladas, Tacos, Chile Relleno, California Chimi (specially asked with Carnitas but they don’t normally do it), Fajitas, and the appetizer nachos. We got margaritas for drinks and their house made flan for dessert. First and foremost,, the Chile relleno is the best I’ve had in a very long time. I was so happy with it that I’ve considered just ordering that à la carte. The margaritas don’t taste strong but they are so tread carefully. They’re also huge! I am not a fan of flan usually but my husband is. The flan is amazing! The best I’ve had. And now the only place I know I can get it and love it. It’s a pretty large portion actually. Good to share between two people. All of their portions are large and so far, we’ve had lunch for the next day. My new favorite place in Simi Valley! Shoutout to our waiter Oscar! (The price tag per person was so high because we got a couple of drinks each…)

I love this delightful little Mexican restaurant. The food is not your ordinary Mexican food, it’s authentic & delicious. The service is great, & the decor is very festive, you should try it if you are looking for something a little bit different!
Great atmosphere in here, although it is a bit dimly lit. The servers are very very nice and make good conversation. Their chips are very good, and their salsa is perfect. Their portion sizes are huge but good quality. Their enchiladas, tamales, and beans are delicious. Would return again.
I was a visitor from Canada and had asked around about true Mexican food and drinks. Elvira was one recommended. Glad I went!! Great service, food and for me, atmosphere. My fav was being remembered each time I returned. I absolutely loved this place!! My favourite bartender in Simi Valley as well. Thanks for making me feel like family 🥰

Food is good. One must give a try to explore. Have fun
Everyone we met there the host, the server, and the bartender we're all talkative and friendly. My Diablo shrimp was flavorful I would order again, the atmosphere was relaxing, overall a very pleasant experience. The location is a little tricky to find as it's inside a small Strip Center not easily visible from the street. Not being from the area we were there on business. I recommend giving it a try

After all the hoopla in my Simi Valley Foodie’s group I had to try this place. I heard it is super good, super busy, and has excellent service. We went on a Saturday evening at around 8:00 PM and it was about 75% full so we got a booth table that was so ridiculously tight we barely fit in. I thought the decor and vibe were top-rated. The service was excellent. I could not have asked for better service. It was the food that I think is both mediocre for my taste and relatively expensive. All three of us rated our dishes at about a 7 out of 10. Sighting that the salsas and chile sauces were very mild and lacked heat. Very odd to have no heat at all on three dishes and a salsa bowl. My Chile Verde dish, which is my staple dish, was slightly above average but lacked deep chile flavor and heat. One of my guests ordered the Spinach Enchiladas and thought they had potential but did not really have a great and distinct chile flavor. The third dish was generous portion of a child’s bean and rice burrito combo dish, that came rice-less inside the burrito, but scored well on flavor. We all felt the beans were ok, but are only half mashed. We would have preferred refried to go with our dishes. The Spanish Rice was, in all our opinions, excellent as were the flour tortillas. The salsa was okay but again lacked chile flavor and heat. I actually took some home, added some of my New Mexico dried chili peppers, and it came to life. At least in our opinion. Lastly, the presentation of the dishes were gorgeous. Just like the decor. I am certain that over time the types of issues I have noted can be easily fixed. I do look forward to trying it again, soon.

Very disappointed in our last visit to Elvira's. We went back last Friday after having not been for several months. Although the food and drink were good, their sales tactics are not honest, and will keep us from returning. We sat down well after happy hour ended. Despite this, we were brought drink menus with happy hour pricing, even though no where on the menu was it indicated that these were happy hour only prices. Our entire party ordered drinks and everything was fine. Imagine our shock when the bill came and our drinks were $25 each despite the menu stating $12! On top of this, our waiter took it upon himself to order us all double margaritas without ever mentioning there were size and pricing options. When we talked the the owner Christina about this she even acknowledged that the doubles aren't on the menu yet and we should have been given the option. Additionally, we were charged an automatic gratuity for a large party, even though our party was less than 6 people- the owners response was that her waiter must not be able to count?! Over a week later, and still no real ownership or resolution from the owners. Very disappointed
