Opinions de Comfort Cafe Smithville
Food was INCREDIBLE. Absolutely loved everything we ordered. The vibe was positive and bright, and coming in supports them so that they can continue to save lives. 🩷
Best brunch meal I have had in a longgg time. Delicious Florentine Benny. Crisp bacon side. Added Salted Caramel Crepe for dessert at home tonight. But taste led me to a 2nd which lead to surprise inside. OMG soo good. Plus outstanding happy staff. I'm coming back with friends. Bring cash, plus some extra, as benefits Serenity program.
Comfort Cafe was the perfect breakfast spot, and we loved everything about our experience. The food was comforting, indulgent, and clearly made with care. We had a mix of classic and creative breakfast dishes perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, hearty toast, and some seriously amazing comfort sides. The breakfast sandwich was rich and satisfying, and the scrambles were loaded with flavor and generous portions. And the French toast… absolutely incredible. Soft, fluffy, beautifully dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with whipped cream pure comfort food in the best way. Everything felt homemade and intentional, from the plating to the flavors. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a great place to slow down, enjoy your meal, and start the day right. This is one of those places that leaves you full and happy. Amazing breakfast, great vibes, and a spot we’d absolutely come back to again.
It's a non-profit that does make a difference in people's lives. You always get a decent meal and it's worth at least $15 by any standard. The more you pay, the more you contribute to something that actually gets results and doesn't get put in a budget with advertising and administrative costs. They're the real deal.
Been coming here for years. Breakfast and lunch have always been top notch. Wait time can be long when coming at peak times, but just be patient and show grace. Prices are donation based $12 to $15 per person suggested, as this is run by a nonprofit organization Serenity Star(group of recovering addicts and alcoholics who are working a 12-step program alongside alternative healing methods and have been called into purpose.*from website)
What an awesome place and business concept. While I have heard of non-profits operating places to eat, we were so delighted to have found this place. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They asked if it were our first visit and then began explaining the ordering process. Only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, these folks got something going on here. Our granddaughter wanted the grilled cheese and it was absolutely huge and cut into smaller bite size portions. The wife got a burger with grilled onions and it looked amazing. Of course I had to try the jalapeño popper burger and let me tell you..PROBABLY IN TOP 3 OF BEST BURGER I’VE HAD!!! Only accept cash and check, but the small inconvenience is worth the atmosphere and food. Stop by and try them out!!
GREAT Concept, Great Food. Run as a non profit by a support Group, This is a pay as yu wish ( $15-20 recommended Contribution). Open Friday,Saturday, Sunday 8:00 - 3:00. Extensive menu as in photo. I had an excellent Patty Melt and he cream of spinach souop, both were 5 star. Others in our party had various breakfast dishes, all were very good. Service, Ambiance, and staff were increadable. Indoor and pato dinning available
This was our first visit, and we thought at maybe 11am on a Sunday we'd be ahead of the crowd. Eh, not so much as the order line stretched all the way to the door. Servers and other staff were all moving quickly but to a person were exceedingly customer service oriented and patient with our newbie selves on how things work there. It took about 50 minutes in line to get to the order bar, but the young lady there treated me like I was the only one in line. After ordering, it took another 45 minutes or so to get the food. We got the NY sandwich and the three meat scramble. They were out of the roasted breakfast potatoes already and the potato "casserole" thing was okay. Overall the food was good, but not eye knocking. Again, they were super busy. We'll try them again on a Friday when maybe they won't be so busy.
What an amazing experience. While the line to order is LONG on a weekend, it was the worth the wait. The people working were amazing. The food was delicious. The ambiance is awesome - we loved the patio with the nicer weather. The breezeway with the amazing mural is incredible. And most of all, I LOVE the purpose behind this place. I love what they are doing !!!! Highly recommend.
Food, sland service were awesome. No prices for what you order, but the donation of food prices is up to you, which is to help out for a great cause. Food is freshly prepared with lots of love, and is amazing. We had the corned hash plate, the drunken monkey plate, and some French toast with a cream cheese filling- topped with a strawberry puree, all of it was amazing!!! This food is something to look forward to eat, leaves you with the urge to go back soon, and enjoy more. The Comfort Cafe in Smithville, Texas, supports SerenityStar, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a safe, sober, and spiritual environment for individuals and families to recover from addiction. The food was great! (Except of the potato hash—they were pretty undercooked) The staff was amazing and loved the vibe of the inside and outside. It was a little warm inside but I’ll blame that on the Texas summers. Pancakes were amazing, as were the eggs and sausage! Love the concept of the diner and that it’s donation based. We’ll be coming back again!
Love, love, LOVE this place! I was visiting from California and being in Recovery myself (26 years), I was so excited to see community and service thriving! We need more places like this around the country. Helping people help themselves is the key to a better world for everyone. Keep up the great work!
Best surprise ever! Walked through the door and immediately felt like I was walking into my family home. The staff were all very friendly with positive attitudes. The regulars will offer up with how the system works and offer their recommendations. The food was top notch !! How it works: When it is open, the staff who run the place are in recovery. You look at the menu written on a black board, order your food, sit down and wait for the magic. After your done eating you pay what you think it’s worth. All the money goes towards the cafe and their recovery. It’s a super cool spot, great vibe and delicious food.
First, where have you been all my life!? OMG, hands down, this is the best southern breakfast I have EVER eaten. (No exaggeration) The backstory to this restaurant is beyond inspiring. 🙏🫶🏼💙 I really hope this place gets the recognition it deserves. The food and atmosphere are on point! Im definitely coming back to try another dish‼️ Oh, please don't forget to check out the mosaic ally next to this restaurant and the artsy patio. It's beautiful! ☺️
This place is amazing. We came because the food looked so good and found out that this restaurant has a very good cause and story behind it. It is a non profit, pay what you can restaurant that helps people for free with addiction <3 All of the staff is super super sweet and the food was literally the best breakfast we’ve had in a long time. It’s cash only and you leave your donation after you eat. This is our new go to spot and definitely will come back to try lunch! <3
Absolutely one of the best places you can go for breakfast. The food here is amazing, and best of all, it's made from scratch. I heard about this place a whole back and finally broke down and paid a visit. CASH ONLY, make sure you bring some green. The food here has so much character that it has you wanting to try every menu option. Best of all this is a recovery center too, these people do not get paid, they get cured. Service here is superb as well ad the food served. I highly recommend paying this place a visit one weekend, as they are closed Monday through Saturday.
A non profit comfort food restaurant with FANTASTIC menu, staff, and a warm environment. This place has suggested donation of $15 per entree and it is up to you to pay what you can/want/feel. The artwork in the alley is a testament to the changed and changing lives of those in this recovery program. Helping others while helping themselves and making a true difference in the community. There's another franchise of this charity in the San Antonio Texas area as well. The food is phenomenal and whoever is training the staff is doing a great job. Big beautiful portions of breakfast foods, sandwiches, hamburgers, salads, and more! Limited hours so check out that before you go. Lots of fun things to do in their area in Smithville and completely worth supporting this restaurant, program, and those in recovery working there. Yes!
