This was my first time eating here. Service was very enthusiastic and the seating was plentiful. Enjoyed the history that was all around you and the overall decor was just what you'd expect. The food was delicious. I wish I lived closer so I could have purchased some meat from their market.

Good honest food at a fair price. Consistently good, not as pricey as other restaurants. Little to no wait, always quiet & super clean, plenty of room, no tipping expected. Self-serve pickles, jalapeños, onion. Sausage jalapeño cheese bombs and pork steaks are filling. They never have lamb ribs when I'm there, but I hope to try that one day.

I usually have a good experience here, but this last time was great! Rosie cut our meat for us, and she was so sweet and funny. She had an amazing attitude even though the place was packed. Everyone worked quickly and efficiently to get through the crowd of people, the food was very good, and the place was exceptionally clean. We had brisket and sausage, and both were delicious. It's a good place for a good meal.

2nd trip here, and I was not disappointed. But oh boy, do I need a nap after that deliciousness. Had the combo sandwich and had the jalapeño and cheese sausage in it for just the right kick. Brisket was moist and about perfect. Thank you for a great dinner.

I was in town for work, after a long and hot weeks work we decided to treat ourselves and boy did we ever!! This was an awesome BBQ restaurant! I got the three meat and two sides. There is so much space in the building. Another thing I liked about it your plate is cut right in front of you at the counter, seat yourself and fill your own drinks. They do have a beer selection and an actual meat market.

Dined in at Southside Market & BBQ in Bastrop on a Sunday around 11:30am. No line and plenty of tables to choose from. There was a line around 12:30pm when we left. Got two- 2 meat plates and a sausage slammer to try a bit of everything. Everything was really good! The brisket was super juicy and the sausage was really good. I am a turkey BBQ person and the turkey had amazing flavor. The sausage slammer is wrapped in bacon and has a cheddar stuffed jalapeno in the middle. I will likely get one of these every time I visit. We also liked all of our sides but felt the beans and Cole slaw were exceptionally good! I think it will be a tough choice every time we come here to eat. Overall a solid 5 star for food quality and restaurant cleanliness. Also appreciated the pickle/onion bar, the beverage choices, and the original or spicy BBQ sauce options.

Nice BBQ and a lot of parking spots & dining tables available. The chicken is better than Rudy’s. The rib is decent but the meat wouldn’t come off the rib easily.

Food was good, brisket was a tad dry. Friendly service. The establishment is big, super clean and just beautiful.

The meat was good, but could use some more seasoning. The beans were really bland. Service was amazing and the quality of the meat seemed really good. Just more seasoning all around would be great!

Great Texas Bar BQ they originated with the first market in Elgin Tx. This one in Bastrop is the same company just little nicer building. This is classic Texas style meat,beans fixins. NOPE! DON'T DO IT! You can smell the green smoke/dirty smoke in the air. Got the spub and banana pudding. I went in to taste the brisket and automatically can taste that metallic, dirty smoke taste. Horrible. It wasn't the spud. So tasted the sauce by itself and that had the same taste. Just awful. Buddy gave me a pork rib to try and nope. Wasn't having it. Banana pudding... I mean if you mess this up just shut it down and that's what this place should do. Shut their doors until they can figure out what's going on. The only part that was good was the wafers that where added on top. Pudding was gritty. Well this was a $22 review.

Wife and I have been eating here for years, and I normally order a ranchhand with chopped beef which normally fills me up and leaves some to take home. Last few times could not find any, but a very small little bit chopped brisket hidden under shredded cheese. The beans were less than half normal amount in bowl. I left still hungry, and price has gone up from $12.00 to $15.00. Costs more, and a fraction of normal size ranchhand . Maybe good for profit, not so good for customer. We will be going to Billy's BBQ down the road from now on, better prices and better food.
