The consistency at Fidel’s is unmatched. I’ve been coming to Fidel’s whenever I’m in San Diego for over two decades and I have always had an extremely pleasant experience with the staff and the food is always the same. It’s always nice biting into delicious nostalgia. The same burrito I devoured when I was seven is still the same delicious burrito I’m devouring at 27. The only difference being I’m drinking a Perfect Margarita (the name and an accurate description) instead of a Shirley temple.
We visited Fidel’s based on another person’s recommendation from our dinner group. Our group was from out of town, and we will surely return next time we are in town. This place is amazing. The whole vibe is super fun and it makes one want to enjoy several margs. The margs are delicious, and not too sugary. And the food was wonderful. Everyone in our group loved the food. I ordered the Chille Relleno Dinner and loved it as it was made perfectly. It wasn’t coated in several layers of batter like other restaurants prepare it. You won’t be disappointed if you choose to dine here.
Definitely a five star experience. From the beginning, the complimentary salsa was was super tasty and the tacos were fresh. They even offered refills! My house Margarita was perfectly made. We ordered the combo plates. I had the Chile Releno and Chicken Burrito. The Releno was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. The chicken Taco was filled with chicken and quite filling. Best tasting Mexican rice and beans I have ever had. Great experience and super friendly service. Would definitely come back!
This place is a community fan favorite. We love this spot. The food is delicious and authentic, and my personal favorites are the tamales. The staff are friendly and always willing to go above and beyond. The management is absolutely incredible. The experience itself is one for many to have. It comes highly recommended by myself. Oh yes, and don't forget to try the margaritas. They are super yummy.
Great place Mexican food and margaritas. Fidel's Mexican Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, flavorful Mexican cuisine in a warm, lively atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of Solana Beach, it has that classic, inviting vibe that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local gem. The menu offers a great variety of traditional Mexican dishes, from hearty burritos to fresh ceviche.
Fidel's landmark has been around since early 60's. Has happy hour 5 days a week in the bar upstairs. I've never missed a chance to eat there growing up. The food, the staff and the atmosphere is wonderful. I love sitting outside on the patio with a margarita and a combination plate. It's remained unchanged and true to its Mexican culture and the staff are all passionate about delivering a quality Mexican meal at a fair price and wonderful service. Thank you Fidel's for remaining true to your culture.
my friends are I were surfing Cardiff and wanted some Mexican food afterwards and my friend recommended this place. I did not know what to expect, but there ambience was adorable! A classic Mexican style vibe, colorful from head to toe. They have 2 levels, including an outdoor patio on the bottom level. We ordered a variety of dishes. I went with the classic surf and turf and it did not disappoint. if you're looking for a cute and tasty quality Mexican restaurant, I highly recommend this place!
Excellent food, always consistent. Love Fidel's and will go out of my way to visit frequently.

We love Fidel's! It's a great atmosphere and a large space so we don't normally have to wait. The margaritas are awesome and there's something for everyone on the menu.

The food in the location is excellent. I recommend the Cadillac. margarita! We are lucky they had a fantastic mariachi band playing live.
We have been coming to Fidel's for at least 15 years! Reliably tasty mexican food with very efficient service. The margaritas, tortilla soup and salsa are outstanding. You will not be disappoint…
I like the authentic vibe of the place. I ordered beef flautas. They were a bit dry, the meat inside was overcooked but it was delicious. Their chips and salsa were a hit and miss. The salsa was yummy but the chips wasn’t that fresh and a bit hard. Overall service was great. I sat outside and it was pleasant. Total spent including tip was 25.00 for one person with just an appetizer, so it is pricey.
The more traditional style Mexican food, a little pricey for how basic it is but the size of the food is great!. It's always very crowded so it seems to be enjoyed by everyone! The salsa kind of tastes like tomato sauce with some seasoning, but the food itself was pretty good. The green sauce is excellent and spicy! The chicken enchiladas had so much shredded chicken breast it was awesome, but there was no cheese inside these enchiladas which I thought was strange. Still good though with lots of extra green sauce. We also got the tacos and they were massive and very crunchy.
Festive, upbeat spot for the type of Mexican food you crave whenever you're away from San Diego for any length of time. Portions are large and margaritas are strong. The restaurant is big and rambling with multiple dining areas on different floors. The atmosphere is upbeat and makes you feel like you're on vacation. Sometimes they have mariachis. Love this place.

Very good food and service. prices are on the high side, but still reasonable. I had a shrimp burrito and a machaca burrito. My wife had a chicken enchilada. They were all very good.
better than average food and atmosphere, however I’ve had a better chile relleno. Margaritas are great! All in all a reliable mexican restaurant.
Less is more should be the take away. Too much cheese on everything. I want better food not more. Arrive and you have to walk thru the building down stairs and it’s quite weird but whatever. We get seated outside due to that was first available. It’s cold out but there is a heater. They were pretty busy but slowing down. The food took almost an hour for soup, one fish taco and I got the combo relleno and Carnitas Burrito. Burrito meat was good, relleno is cheese only and too much of it. Beans were tasty but most of it covered in cheese. Salsas were pretty good. Tortilla chips were ok. Would not go back, one and done for me.
This is the Mexican restaurant next-door to Tony’s Jacal. We wanted Tony's, but because the wait was 180 minutes at 5pm, we went next door and were seated, as there was no wait. The staff is great. But the food was very sloppy. I brought my family of 5 and the overuse of dripping wet lettuce made each plate of dinner a mess. All the food tasted fine, but at an average of $23+ a plate (not including tax and tip). I don’t want my food to look like a fast food place run by minors. The salsa had no love, just thin and lacking the taste you’d expect of salsa. Honest mistake, as all three drinks were clear, but our cocktails were mixed up, that only turns into a big deal if someone at your table orders the Mezcal! (Yuck surprise!)
We dined Nextdoor a couple of times and decided to try this place. I wish we hadn’t. The food was just average. The service was pretty good. However, he got my wife’s order wrong. The atmosphere is rustic and I wish we had sat outside. We ordered the guacamole side 4.5/5, chicken torta 3/5 (massive), asada burrito 3/5. The house margarita was good for a house version 5/5.

Wasn't impressed. Had to find parking on the street which was the least of the problems. Once we were sat, after a 30 min wait, it took a while, about 30 min., for our drink order for seven to be taken and delivered after being sat. Then an hour for our food to be delivered, the beans had a skin on them they were sitting on the plate for that long. The price was about $23-24 a plate then a non-alcoholic drink about $5. The music was low and at a comfortable level with the ocassinal shriek of a table being sat. I could get better service and food for cheaper at a local taco shop.
I had a rather disappointing experience at this Mexican restaurant. We’re used to generous portions and cheesy Mexican food, but this place was overpriced and left me feeling unsatisfied. The Crab Enchilada was a total letdown. Only one came with the $20 plate, and the cheese was practically non-existent. The $10 shrimp taco had a measly 5-6 tiny shrimp in it. The Milanesa chicken dish could have been much better with a sauce. Overall, the flavors were just okay, and the parking was a nightmare. The restrooms were also in poor condition. Despite the fun decor and lively atmosphere, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Horrible service over priced do not recommend.\n\nLike a factory they just want you in and out took an hour to get our food at 4.30 in the afternoon

The food was terrible. Dried, tough carne asada and carnitas. Even guacamole was “dry” - just a blob on a plate (not bowl). Surly service and basement atmosphere

Always disappointed with this tasteless food. Really nothing special. cheap cuts of protein force me to cheese and veggies.
I’ve come to this restaurant many times which is why this experience was disappointing. During this visit, the dish I ordered wasn’t what I expected. I politely let our waiter, Fabian, know and apologized while asking if it would be possible to switch to something else. From that moment on, his demeanor noticeably changed. The interaction became cold and dismissive. When the replacement dish came out, it was simply placed on the table without a word. I said “thank you,” but received no response. After that, it felt like our table was being avoided. We had trouble getting his attention and he wouldn’t make eye contact when walking by. Situations like this are uncomfortable because no one wants to feel like they’ve done something wrong for politely speaking up about their food. I completely understand that mistakes happen and that not every dish will be a perfect fit. The way it’s handled makes all the difference. It’s unfortunate because we come here often, but after this experience we’ll likely be heading over to Tony Jacal’s next door, where the service has always felt more welcoming and consistent.
