My family has been going to James Coney Island since the 1960s, starting with my grandparents. I always enjoy my meals every time I come here, they definitely have the best hot dogs anywhere! I am so sad to see so many locations closing, as JCI has been such a landmark in Houston for over a century! I hope this location continues to thrive, and Houstonians don’t miss out on this gem.
The Chili Cheese dogs and Chili Fries are outstanding. Unfortunately the family and myself have to drive about 30 minutes one way just to get to a Coney Island. Hopefully they open a new location near Tomball!
Wow. I'm impressed with the inside of James Coney island. I love the Giant LED displays so you can see the menu easy. Alex was really cool. I observe the staff as I was waiting for my hot dogs and they are so thorough and communicate and work together so well. Love the decor and the Christmas music playing as well. My son and I sometimes come over here to the Game Preserve and next time we're going to go to jci. Can't believe I've never been before. Thank you again! Jci is doing it right
This is for the Sawdust location. Clean! Exceptional order taker. Food comes out quickly. I have been a JCI customer for 55 years! This is an excellent location. Food is not as good a value as it has been in the past. But the food is very tasty. I feel that the Original coney should be no more than $1.79. But there is no competition in this segment so they are somewhat over priced. Nevertheless, the food is very, very tasty.
Just left the drive through after coming here two nights in a row and receiving the same great professional service. The associate working the drive thru is so sweet and ensured quick accurate service! This is one of the best locations in Houston. Keep it up guys!
I love JCI and have ever since I was a kid. The chill sauce is so good on the hot dogs and the Frito pie. The food is always fresh and the place is very nice to dine in. I always recommend dinning in and not going through the driveway through.
I love their sliders! Just the right amount of hamburger and cheese. The sauteed onions are a yummy topping. Plus, the bun isn't soggy. The onion rings are well seasoned, and the breading doesn't fall off. Perfect fast food!
Friendly staff who are typically pretty fast. The restaurant is clean and rarely busy. The fries aren't the greatest but the chilli is good on the dogs. It's a good place when you're sick of the burger run at the other fast food places.
BEST chili dog's and Frito pie anywhere! When I was coming, my father wiul take me to the original one downtown and I heard oil deals fro the 100's of thousands to the millions going down. I loved that place with soft drinks in tubs of ice and standing at the side counters to eat. The quality has NOT changed in 60 years.
This place has some good hotdogs and fries. I also like their patty melt but I didn't care to much for the bread. But overall the service and food was great.
Delicious. Expensive for fast food, but I'd say it's worth it every now and then. The onion rings and horseradish sauce are super yummy. My kids love that their meals come with icecream. Generous toppings and tasty buns.
Every time I have visited this locationI, I have been greeted by a friendly server and a smile. Food is always hot and the drive thru service is fairly fast. The best thing I like about this restaurant location is the service. Esp the drive through service.
Food was wonderful, service was a delight!
Great variety excellent! Where else could you get chili cheese dogs, and the best Greek salad ever!
All employees super Nice! Coney's are GREAT!
I have fond memories of going to downtown Houston to James Coney Island for hot dogs when I was a child. Stopped in today to enjoy a couple of hot dogs and I enjoyed everything. Not quite the same atmosphere as it was In the late 60’s and 70’s . All the men who served you and the desk’s that you sat in to eat were really special. Thanks for keeping it going for all these years. JC is my favorite
Veronica knows how to run a drive-through smoothly and efficiently. You can hear her smile through the intercom, and she makes you feel right at home. She is an asset to this company. I drove 30 minutes to this location today with hopes that she would be working. She never disappoints. Thank you, Veronica!
Best hot dogs you'll ever eat
The staff here restores my faith in people. Warm, friendly, attentive...you just don't expect that type of service at many restaurants these days, and definitely not in a fast food joint. What a pleasant experience. And, the food is prepared to look and taste perfect. While we ate several members of the staff were constantly on the lookout to clean tables, the drink station, counters. They are doing things right here and I want the entire JCI team to know we noticed and appreciate the effort.
First time here. Tried a regular hot dog, the chipolte chicken sandwich and onion rings and both were very delicious. Great prices and very clean too! Definitely recommend it.
This is a great JCI location. I continue to get great friendly service. The only thing that bothers me, which doesn't reflect on the location is how skinny the frankfurters are compared to the ones you get literally anywhere else. They are shorter and skinnier. Hot dogs are already the "cheap meat", sad to see them cut costs by reducing the size of the franks.
I decided to drive through for the first time in a while. I wasn’t sure what the menu looked like so I asked for a minute to look, and the person working drive through (Veronica) was so kind and patient with my order. When I pulled up to the window I was greeted with a smile and a “Hey love, how you doing?” I had to come leave a review for Veronica because nowadays polite/warm drive through employees are hard to come by. Oh, my food was amazing as well. Will be coming back!
Loved this location! Very clean and comfortable dining area with friendly staff, and the chili cheese coneys are my favorite. Looking forward to another visit.
Veronica was very wonderful... gourmet hot dog was very very delicious. It was cooked to perfection. And the new slushy drink either cherry or strawberry is Grand. Let Ms Veronica serve you great customer service thank you for a nice dining
Moved to DFW and I miss JCI so much. Every visit i swing by and the manager it's super friendly! The staff here ESPECIALLY the dining room attendant was so kind. He was working so so hard. I admire people like this. Hard working, honest and kind. They ain't get paid enough.
I love JCI and the location is near my work. The servers are friendly and the manager always walks around to each table asking if the food is good or if we need anything. The service is great. The food is hot and delicious. The seating is comfortable and they even have a TV to watch for entertainment kids and adults alike.
The place is clean, the staff is friendly and most important The food if fresh and delicious.
They take a little longer but it’s always worth the wait cause your food is actually hot and fresh. Out of all the fast food restaurants in this area, I’ve never had an issue in my 2 years of being over here. They have great customer service, always get my order right and their food is pretty good.
We LOVE James Coney Island!! Always consistent, clean and fresh hot food! Please don't ever go away!!
I’ve lived in the area for a few years and finally gave JCI a try! I have to say I’m impressed. Great service, clean and inviting atmosphere, and delicious hot dogs and tater tots. I will definitely be coming back more often.
I love this place the food was amazing the staff were super nice.
I was in town with my Maddie and they were closed, it my mother's funeral on Memorial Day weekend. It was raining my entire trip back to Houston from West Monroe, so we stayed to go by and have Chris and Kendra treat us with some back home hospitality. Still keeping that recipe locked away. Seriously Kendra, you made the extra day worth it. When I think of going back home, JCI will be on my mind. And I would stay again!
I no longer live near a JCI location, so when my daughter needed me to take her to an appointment nearby, we'll I couldn't resist. I walked over and ordered a Walker St with chili-cheese fries. Pure heaven!
Great customer service. Great food. The restaurant was very clean. Highly recommended.
First time visiting and I did so because of the reviews. From my experience it was better than the fast food joints across the street. The esthetic was nostalgic. The place was very clean. The food was hot and fresh. There was actual silverware and small plates used. Something I was not expecting and was a nice change. The soda area was clean. A family of 3 ate out for about $25 bucks including drinks. The cashier was friendly. There was a lady picking up after every customer once they were done. Ladies in the back were cleaning. They had TV’s on. The menu was big enough for you to choose before you get to the register. For a quick meal at a decent price. We will come back again. My kid gives it 1000 stars. He doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. We had a good experience here. I mean it’s a hotdog and fries joint. It’s exactly what I would expect. And the affordability is a plus! TY
Ive been to a lot of JCI’s. This place is always spotless and the service is always excellent. Employees are friendly and helpful which in this day and age is hard to find in any service industry. I would have tipped if it was an option.
It doesn't matter to me about the opinion of what others say of JCI...we lost ours on East Freeway @ Federal Rd. and in Pasadena. I love the hot dogs from them . The only complain i have ,is that the hardly put enough chilly and cheese, like they did B4. And the hot dogs look smaller. Everything everywhere got smaller portions but bigger in price. Help me to make sense of that. But other then all that...im happy I kno where to go now to get me some JCI. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bro the hot dog was excellent. The kid at the front was very polite and respectful. Dining room was clean. The soap in the restrooms smelled like blue slushy
It's an old building so it needs some love inside, but there all beef dogs on potato buns are the best! Absolutely love a fast food restaurant that serves food fit for humankind consumption.
For fast food the place was clean, food was good and I didn't wait long considering it was during lunch rush. I had not had a JCI in years, back when I worked downtown! I'm glad i found this one close to me. A JCI a couple times a month ought not hurt my diet!
I love this place. This one goes back to my childhood of growing up in Houston. With an old-school diner feel they serve a large selection of food these days, but the dogs are where it's at. I've been to a lot of major cities and tried their take on the American classic, but nobody makes coneys like James'. Stick with the Walker Street Combo and you can't go wrong.
If you’re looking for a place that’ll treat your taste buds like royalty and your arteries like a speed bump, James Coney Island is the spot. I dove into one of their gourmet chili cheese dogs, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just a hot dog. It was a full-blown flavor parade with chili leading the marching band and cheese tossing confetti. Then came the Baja dog, stacked like it had something to prove. Chipotle mayo, guacamole, pico, cilantro, jalapeños… it was like a taco truck crash-landed on a hot dog in the best way possible. To wash it all down, I grabbed a pink lemonade. It was so sweet I’m pretty sure my pancreas sent me a strongly worded letter. Still drank it. No regrets. James Coney Island doesn’t play around. If your diet’s looking for a cheat day, this is where it should go to party.
This is an old school Houston original since 1923. Locals and insiders know. The hot dogs, chili and Frito Pie are legendary. Very good, fresh burgers and fries too. The Delaware Punch is still around but called “Coney Punch” now. The staff is well-trained, friendly and accommodating. JCI is a neighborhood and a family tradition with us. Tastes and feels like the real deal.
We just visited here. Decided to stop as the big red sign caught my attention. Oh my am I glad we did. The service was so pleasant and a breath of fresh air! Veronica, thank you so much for being patient with us and helping us with our order! Superb customer service! The food is perfectly packaged and stayed hot for the ride home. Delicious to the taste and thanks so much for the crispy fries!!
I love this place the food is awesome I eat here every chance I get. in two days they have $.97 counties but I came today and paid full price. JCI is a Houston tradition. My wife got the burger and it wasn’t really good. Didn’t send it back but I should have. Still ain’t taking away 5 stars cause I love the hotdogs, and the Houston Tradition.
The young girl behind the counter absolutely did NOT want to be there!! Wouldn't look at me much less smile!! I work in a retail establishment so I know the issues with young people and I know what is unacceptable! Everything else was great - including the gentleman bussing tables - his smile and graciousness made up for her! They should've switched jobs!! BTW - best CORNDOG ever!!!
It's quick and close to my local game store if a little pricey on their hot dogs and burger combo's. Restaurant prices for a fast food joint. The staff is always great though and the tables are clean. The new outside patio area has been a popular spot on these cooler days. Not sure how well it would be enjoyed during Summer.
3 doesn't mean the food was bad, it just wasn't remarkable or outstanding. Otherwise, no issues.
Celebrated Father's day with a group of 6. Everyone had a good time. Food was great and fresh. Only thing is that we couldn't move tables around for my 92 yr old father to sit on chair to accommodate the six of us( tables are bolted down to floor) . We had to to sit next to ordering area and sit on stools where they had elevated long tables for bigger groups. It was uncomfortable for him as he is handicapped ♿️.
The food was very good best one I've been to in a while to be honest but the service needs work. But like I said food was on point. Didn't go inside just drive through.
We went kind of late but the food was good.
Original Coney, mustard / onions only. They are skipping on their chili on them dogs. Have to pay extra for what you use to get...
Food limited but excellent. I had the Philly beefsteak and chocolate dipped cone. Husband had basic hot dog and a bowl of chili. Reasonable pricing. Except bottle water at $2.19 is robbery I won't recommend the chili. It was ok. My ice cream on the cone and chocolate dip both had very good flavor However the ice cream was a bit too soft for cone that day March 3 3023 Probably should have offered it in small cup or bowl with chocolate scooped on top. Maybe the ice cream maker had not been on long enough? Took 4 tries to get ice cream on the cone to dip it. Clean, organized. Active friendly staff. Clean restrooms, needs updated toilet for handicap stall
It had been over 30 years since I had a coney so my wife and I drove to the Woodlands off Rayford kinda far in the back. We missed it and looped back. Man, it's not just hot dogs like I remember back in the day. I had a frito pie with myChili coney. Can't tell you what my wife had. I never looked up. Sure there was a coney involved though. And just as I remember... When you gotta fill that need for a REAL BEEF coney in your life... JCI will deliver. Not Oscar My my my.
Went through the drive-thru. They take a bit to make the hot dogs but I had ordered 5 Chicago style and 1 polish. They were all good but that's what we were in the mood for. Once you begin to get full it does start to taste less good though and you begin to notice what it's actually made of 😅.
I was rather disappointed. I waited a long time to try JCI and the hot dogs were on par with 7/11. The chili was low quality and the hot dog tasted almost sour. Save your money and go to 7/11 if you want a hot dog like this
James Coney Island Spring Texas the table and floor was clean the employees were friendly it's easy to order. They give you a buzzer that rings when your food is ready to pick up. The salad was okay but not quite worth $6.50. Hot dog was hot and the bun was fresh but a little bit soft and chewy. It was my first time here and I would have to have a coupon or sale to come back. I recommend you read the other reviews here before going.
The service was absolutely amazing. The lady working the drive-thru was spot-on she had the greatest attitude she made me happy to be eating there the food on the other hand not so good
Disappointed.. I was really looking forward to JCI and ended up throwing out $20.00 of food . . Tough and Chewy worst ever
First time here. Did not like it at all. Meat in hot-dogs was tiny like a pencil. a lot of bread, which was wet, not toasty. Sonic and Freddy's hot-dog are far superior and much less expensive. clean restaurant. Very nice staff. just not to my personal liking.
It was okay, the corn dog & the onion rings were not hot & I waited longer than anyone else at our table, I thought it was because they were cooking my food fresh, nope, that wasn't why!?
It is never as good as your memory. I recall the buns were steamed and soft, the chile real, and the cheese a bit better. I needed to check it off of my to do again list. Done.
The culinary experience offered a mix of flavors and textures. While the smaller hot dogs lacked a certain robust taste, the burgers were a delightful contrast. The tots, unfortunately, fell a bit flat in the flavor department. However, the cook's exceptional skills and dedication were truly appreciated.
We hadn't been to a James' in several years, and this visit was a disappointment. You would expect a place that calls itself a grill would have grilled hot dogs, but they were boiled or streamed...nothing special. We had to ask for replacement fries, as they were lukewarm. No senior drinks or senior discount. Restaurant was clean, bright and inviting. Go to Freddy's for a really good hot dog. Wish we had!
I ordered two James Street Coneys. I order with extra chili because there is never enough chili on the hot dogs. My order was delivered. I am pretty sure that they put extra cheese instead of the extra chili I asked for, which really messed up the food quality. Also, I ordered a diet Coke. They gave me diet Dr. Pepper. Lastly, there were no napkins to help me to handle all of this extra cheese. Please do better, JCI. I really like your food and don't want to have to stop ordering from you due to incorrect food preparation. Thanks.
The cleanliness of this JCI is sub par in the kitchen area. Myself and another guest were given our food, both trays our plates were on had food and grease from the previous use. When I asked the counter guy wendel and the counter lady Flori, they said they just worked here. I didnt understand why they had such a poor response to why the trays were dirty. Here we are amidst a covid pandemic and the customer should be able to trust the restraunts to clean the eating utensils. The seating area appeared clean. Also to note I asked to talk to a manager and no one ever came to talk to me. Lastly, the vibration food notification picks should be wiped down and sanitized between use also.
I haven't been to a JCI in over 20 years. Holy crap! The portions are tiny! A "regular " hotdog is half the size of the ones you buy at the grocery store. Save your money any go buy a hotdog and soda at Sam's Club for 1/4 of the price. Very poor value for the money. I stopped at McDonald's on the way home because I was still hungry.
Absolutely Disgusting, There was horrible smell in the dining room like a backed up sewer, We powered thru the smell only to be greeted with rude and grumpy cashier. The hotdogs were equally rude and grumpy, we will never eat another James Cony anything.
I used to go to James Coney Island years ago and when I seen this location I had to stop. My HotDog had no mustard and hardly any Coney sauce - it was so dry it wasn't even good. The man at the Cash Register was not friendly at all. Don't waste your money - go elsewhere. You can actually get a better Hot Dog at Sonic
This is the third time I have had cold fries. The first time i asked them for hot ones, and by the time I got my fries the Chicago dogs were cold. If you want cold fries this is the place for you.
Prrson that took our order just a few minutes ago was rude and definitely unfriendly! After we ordered, at the pickup window, this same person NEVER said one word to us!! She must be very unhappy. We Won’t be back! Also, we asked for an order of onion rings and all she said was “no onion rings”…sad sad sad!! She should be fired or at least be made to work behind the scenes because she has no communication skills.
Don't believe their advertising. Online menu says Cheese Coneys are $2.89. My receipt says $3.39. Online menu says Chicago Dogs are $3.99. My receipt says $4.59. Talk about bait and switch.
Having moved to the area from the jersey shore. Had been wanting a chili cheese hot dog which is a summer staple growing up the. Everyone I talked to recommended here. Sadly the chili cheese hot dogs tasted like absolutely horrible. The chili was extremely salty, the hot dog itself was horrendous. The bun tasted like a day old roll. The chili cheese tot were soggy, nasty and again the chili extremely salty. The New Yorker which my wife had was just as bad and to call it a New Yorker is extremely insulting to any having grown up in the New York area. My wife and I throw out the entire order, it was that bad. How anyone could eat these is beyond me. 20 sometimes dollars straight in the garbage.
Unfortunately I was left very disappointed in our order. Two of the things ordered were not in the bag when I got home, and the hotdogs were inedible (very cold). The kids meal was perfect for my child but the food for the adults was very disappointing.
Decided to try JCI after years of watching it decline, for 2 people (3 chili dogs, fries, tots and 2 drinks) it was almost 25$! The food was sub par, I can make better food at home for less and still feed 6 or more people. On top of that while we were sitting there eating, a cockroach walked under my table....no, we left right then and there, leaving half our food on the table. Will never go to any JCI again...garbage food
Friend orders a chicken tender meal with fries, shake & 2 different sauces. Along with a large tater tot for me. They send out the chicken tender meal with my large tater tots combined in his meal. He goes back up to tell them of the error and to retrieve his shake & sauces. He gives him the shake and walks away. My friend calls him back to remind him of his missing sauces only to be told that they're "busy." The tots were refried to appear as though they were fresh. So hard & crunchy as if you were eating a chunky chip. Grease is old & disgusting, left a nasty taste in my mouth. Anytime you're exchanging $ for goods & services, let's make sure to deliver quality.
Really unpleasant ordering experience. She acted like she didnt even want to say hello but she forced it out. Very unfriendly. She acted like she either didnt want to be there or she didnt want me there. Order call out was "baja..... i guess.....". What does that mean? She guesses im allowed to have the $13 hot dog i just paid for? Seemed like it. I've been coming to coney island most of my life, i love this place. Ive never had an experience like this. So....... i guess...... its pretty unlikely ill be returning here. On another note my $13 hot dog and tots were delicious, im gonna miss them.
Very disappointed. I normally go to Humble. Had a Doctor appointment, so I got a to go order in The Woodlands. Walker Street-add chili to the fries. Another Walker Street with Onion Rings. Get home in Winnie, and get ready to eat. No Chili on the fries. No onions or mustard on the dogs. What a waste of 25 bucks.
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent visit to James Coney Island. The store hours clearly state that the location closes at 9:00 PM. My family and I arrived at approximately 8:14 PM, well before closing time, and entered the restaurant expecting to place a standard dinner order. However, we were informed that cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, and the Hungry Man Combo were no longer available. Shortly after, the iced tea dispenser was also removed. At no point did staff indicate that the grill and fryer had already been shut down for the evening. If the kitchen equipment was closed prior to the posted closing time, this should have been communicated clearly — either by signage on the door or by informing customers upon entry that the full menu was no longer available. Had we known that most of the core menu items were unavailable, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere. For example, Portillo's is only ten minutes from our home. However, we chose this location specifically because we prefer James Coney Island. It is disappointing to arrive well before closing time and be unable to order staple menu items without any prior notice. I respectfully ask that management address this issue to ensure that posted hours accurately reflect when full menu service ends, or that customers are clearly informed when kitchen operations close early. We genuinely enjoy James Coney Island and hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience moving forward.
i don't know who's working the drive through/window at 2pm on this sunday afternoon but please tell her to leave her bitterness at home. this is the second and last time i've been to this location and had to deal with the same drive through worker. also, the audacity to mumble through the speaker but then to cock a little attitude whenever she can't hear the customer ordering is crazy. with so many people looking for work, i find it hard to believe that she was the best choice for the job.
