So fun fact, this place is haunted. I am known to be a jokester sometimes in the local guide community but this is not a fib. The waitress told us after we asked. Now, that’s a little concerning. The food was great. The service was spectacular. But I just hope that none of the spirits have stayed with me. I recommend not eating a lot of the bread because when my meal came I felt extremely nauseous and could not finish my dish. I’m not celiac or gluten sensitive, it was everyone at my table, and of course, I just had to eat the most bread and ask for another basket. Oh gluttonous me. I should’ve been more sensible. But guess what, the next day I got to eat my meal because I got a box to take it home in, so basically it was a 2-1 special. 👻👻👻
What a great restaurant! I love the antique decor, the staff is extremely friendly and the food was amazing! We got the surf and turf and shrimp tacos and they were both excellent. Will be coming back here and I highly recommend!!
⸻ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Outstanding Dining Experience! Everything about this meal was exceptional—from the moment I sat down to the very last bite. The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the breaded cutlet topped with creamy mozzarella, fresh tomato, and a rich balsamic glaze—it was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The fresh salad on the side was just the right complement. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and made me feel genuinely welcome. I already can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food and a great atmosphere!
My husband and I had our wedding at Bell’s Mansion and it was absolutely perfect in every way! From the moment we walked through the doors of this beautiful old mansion, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Cozy, warm, comfortable, and tastefully appointed with vintage decor in every room, Bell’s was the perfect venue for our small wedding gathering of 26 guests. And then there is the food!!!!!! WOW is all I can say - everything was absolutely delicious and the homemade bread was probably the best I’ve ever had in my life! The staff was incredible, and I have to thank Lala especially for her warmth and absolute perfection in handling our wedding day service! All of our guests are still raving about how much they loved Bell’s Mansion and my husband and I could not be happier with how perfect our wedding day was! Thank you again to Lala and the entire staff at Bell’s for making our wedding day so wonderful! We plan on coming back for our one-year anniversary and I can’t wait!
This place was amazing. Very easy for reservations. Very decorated inside historic building. Would come again Update: Went again with friends for my birthday and had an amazing time. Would come again very nice people and very friendly staff. Next time eating in the heated tent! The bread is to die for! Had to take some home. Can you buy a loaf!
Celebrating my Daughter’s Bridal Shower here. They went above and beyond. It was a beautiful experience for all our our guest, especially my daughter. We had 33 guest . They were so nice and attentive to us.
This place is great. Always getting a healthy salad for work lunches with perfectly cooked chicken on top. Staff is always very welcoming and polite.
Favorite place ever! It always feels like home. My family and I had early dinner. Their steak (Ribeye) was tasty. I have become a fan of the red snapper and the seafood stew as well. Our server Lala was excellent and very attentive. She gave us delicious recommendations. Definitely a MUST every time I visit Stanhope. Bell’s Mansion brings the most delicious food, drinks and atmosphere. Can’t forget the Nalewka after dinner shot on the house!
Cute place off the Highway for a Good meal and beautiful Garden Villa/Mansion vibe. $40 for a Lobster Tail and a Bunch of Shrimp with Pasta, Great price when you are coming from Long Island. I think Bread is the places speciality, they had giant fresh loafs when you walk in and cut them up served them. We were expecting highway rest stop food and came across this place, if we are ever in the area we’ll be back.
Beautiful garden and really cool mansion decor. The starter bread that they gave was warm and delicious. The beef Wellington was the eye catcher on the menu and I wanted to compare it to the stuff I've had in the UK. It's not quite the traditional beef Wellington and the meat was a tad overcooked, but it was overall alright.
I tried Bell’s Mansion on my last night in New Jersey. Oh wow! I felt like I was invited over for dinner by a local family and this was their house. The staff were very friendly and I could tell they enjoyed working here. They knew the history of the mansion and had favorites on the menu to recommend. My three course meal started with french onion soup which was perfectly prepared. Next was the chicken joshua, my waitress’s favorite. I quickly understood why it was her favorite! And finished with the cheesecake and a cappuccino. My meal was paired perfectly with a glass of the house wine and my meal finished with a generous shot of dessert wine compliments of the house. Simply wonderful food, atmosphere, and dinner experience that I recommend to anyone traveling in or through this area.
What a lovely Easter Sunday at Bell’s Mansion!! Pablo was an excellent server!! Everything was wonderful - the famous baked bread is worth the visit alone!! Menu was amazing with loads of options. We truly enjoyed every minute and bite!!
We drive 1 hour to eat the beef Wellington. It was truly outstanding. Everything was on point. We got the cheddar jalapeño pierogi and some drinks. The bread and butter they served was yum. Then for mains we got the beef Wellington, steak sandwich and penne vodka .i got the beet salad which was yummy too . Overall we all loved the food. The ambiance was very lively and service is great too
Went to Bell’s Mansion on a recommendation from my sister. Glad we did, they checked all the boxes that I appreciate in a restaurant; * uniqueness regarding atmosphere * service * great food you can’t find anywhere else * cleanliness (both dinning areas & bathrooms) We had some great dishes, seafood stew, shrimp & lobster, chicken Josephine, and ossobuco. We had a pear salad & wedge salad for appetizers. Bread is served with the meal, and it happens to be the most awesome bread we’ve had in years! It’s made on premises and it’s the bomb! At the end of the meal they provide a complimentary cherry liquor 😎. Excellent experience all the way around!
Great place to eat either outdoors or indoors. Has a nice seating arrangement outside. This place has sandwiches that can feed a family. My wife ordered crispy bbq sandwich, it was huge, and delicious. She said it had a little spicy kick to it. I ordered jumbo scallops and it was great, very creamy and delightful. They make fresh bread here as well, which we were pleasantly surprised by. Good spicy Bloody Mary is hard to come by but these folks did it just the way I like it. Definitely worth a stop.
I've been here a few times now and this restaurant never disappoints. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the dishes are interesting and delicious. It's a polish run restaurant, but they serve a wide variety of food with a few polish favorites added in. I like the added touch of a polish liqueur complimentary for dessert.
Food was outstanding and the service was amazing! Definitely go again.
My fiancé and I met here for our very first time meeting and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food so much that we fantasized for months and months of returning there for our 1 year anniversary. But I secretly, with the help of her sister planned on purposing to her there on that day so her sister and I began planning and the staff there could not have possibly been more friendly and accommodating to that! They helped us set up the lower garden area with candles and with our families secretly gathering there the event was absolutely perfect! In her words! The food was absolutely wonderful and again, the staff could not have been nicer. It was all very affordable and perfect. I would give this place 5 stars to anyone who asked me about it for the rest of time and couldn’t imagine our night happening anywhere else!
Enjoyed dinner at the patio bar and was immediately impressed with atmosphere and native flowers in the garden. The space is elegant enough to feel like you are on a special patio but casual enough where you can show up in Jean shorts and a messy pony tail. The bartender made amazing aperol spritz- perhaps the best I’ve had in the US. The cherry Moscow mule specialty cocktail was also to die for and tasted like cherry limeade. The bread was delicious and fresh baked and the Margherita pizza had delicious sauce, flavorful fresh mozzarella and a crispy crust. I can’t wait to return.
What a blast we had enjoying dinner and drinks at the bar. Music from Bryan was excellent. Will definitely be back next one I’m in town.
Only saw one other diner during our private meal in the Canal Room. Yes, it’s open for lunch, even though it doesn’t appear so from outside. It’s quite the elegant dining experience. Our waitress was perfect. I ordered the Caesar salad w/ filet tips (tho I’d go with chicken next time). Dad had the French onion soup and the sausage & sauerkraut dish. All was terrific.
Excellent menu including appetizers and daily specials! The crab cakes were so delicious, I imagine being at the Maryland shores. The Beef Wellington was perfect! They have a great seafood menu too. I enjoyed a Summer Sangria too. A must go too place. Of course, the mansion is a sight to see.
Amazing food, not a single thing on the menu that isn’t good. Always have to get the crème brûlée if you go. Staff is always so kind too
I’m a “regular” here when I’m traveling for work. I absolutely love this place. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere (especially outside and in the bar!). I literally have never been disappointed and that’s saying a LOT because I’m a huge foodie! If you have a chance to grab a drink and some food with Danita please make an effort to! She is just wonderful and just such a sweet a friendly bartender! Definitely a breath of fresh air. I’ve never had a bad experience here but she really made it an experience that I’m always looking for when I’m traveling and looking for a good place to try out!
the food, drinks, and service i have received here are exemplary of a good time! i have never had a disappointing experience here, and the guests that come with me always enjoy it, too. the martinis are fantastic and have many flavor options. the decor inside and outside are beautiful and timeless.
We held my daughter's baby shower on the patio in early June, and everything turned out great! Luckily the weather was beautiful and the gardens were such a pretty backdrop for our private patio area. It was a lunch buffet for 49 people and the patio was the prefect size for the seating as well as for the gifts, goody bags, etc. Maria was very easy to work with and the service was excellent. I had several guests say that they want to return to Bell's for dinner since they were impressed with the venue. In the event of rain, the backup was their Canal Room inside the mansion; I loved that I didn't need to worry about inclement weather ruining the event but I will say that the patio was definitely a plus! I would not hesitate to recommend Bell's Mansion for any private party.
We had a great dinner! Our server Christina was amazing, she had great recommendations. The dirty martinis, bread and entrees were delicious. The outdoor area had a great atmosphere.
Wonderful food and drinks. Service was outstanding.
Absolutely beautiful facility with knowledgeable and kind staff, prompt and professional service, and bucolic grounds including an outdoor bar and lounge, and idyllic garden walk. This restaurant brings you back to a more glamorous time being set in a real old mansion. Their martini and wine list are delicious and reasonably priced. We are not convinced we have found our favorite things on the menu yet the clam and chorizo appetizer was to die for (the chicken Josh was an interesting combination of ingredients, and the Wellington, while cooked to the right temp, had a floppy crust) we will certainly be back to try more. Do yourself a favor and plan your next date night here, you won’t regret it
I hope the food was sub par because of holiday being yesterday, previously it was great. Maple beacon was ham not beacon. Steak was cooked good but it was a under par piece of meat. For a 200 dollar meal I expected more.
Bell’s Mansion is a 10/10. This is a restaurant that is perfection in everything- food, atmosphere, drinks and service. If someone from out of town asked me where to go I would tell them Bells Mansion in a heart beat.
Our group had a wonderful time at Bell's Mansion. The food was delicious, the wait staff so accommodating, and the setup in the beer garden was perfect! Thanks Maria and staff for a great "first day of school " experience. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great American restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. The portions were generous, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. I really enjoyed my visit!
Every time we come here is great. Tonight we sat at the bar for the first time and enjoyed Scott Messinas live music which was great. Very good restaurant, very good staff and food.
First time there, I got the Pork Ossobucco with risotto and it was amazing!!! One of the best dishes I’ve tasted. I will always remember it!
My husband and I with another couple dined on 12/5/25. We couldn’t say enough about the great entrees we enjoyed! I had the sea bass absolutely delicious! My hubby had the duck breast special which was also yummy! The couple with us had the kielbasa appy which he said “was so good it didn’t even need mustard”! The lobster pappardell also received a great review! We were in town for a wedding, if we lived locally this would be our go to place! The service was also professional and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Our favorite restaurant in the Stanhope area! We were recently in town and went for brunch -- the calamari was cooked to Italian perfection and the cranberry pancakes were a seasonal treat. We have not had a bad dish, but the jalapeño pierogis, seafood stew, apples and greens salad (with salmon), and chicken Joshua are always excellent. The service has always been wonderful, although we always love Lala, Daphne, and Ellie!
Wonderful dinner at The Bell Mansion in Stanhope, NJ. The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays and the service was outstanding. I dined alone while in town for a work trip, and my server Vasco was excellent—he suggested the fish with jasmine rice, and it was fabulous. Great food, great hospitality. Highly recommend.
A hidden Gem. Portions A+ Service A+++ Prices A++ Atmosphere 🤯🤯🤯 Moved here from just outside NYC in 2016, searched for restaurants thousands of times- not once has Bells come up in google results. Found it a month ago, been there 3 times already. Love this place. Kielbasa; the best I've ever had. Anywhere. Grew up surrounded by polish meat markets in Clifton's Athenia section. Stuffed Cabbage; you know this came from someone's grandma. But its been refined so much that it's different from what you typically imagine. It's a very clean, light, pleasant dish. Meatballs. They're done right. Meatloaf mix, taste like theres some sear, but light, tender, and finished in a homemade marinara (Lil sweet). Satay; too sweet for me. Sauce overpowers everything. (But the sauce ain't bad..) Coconut shrimp; very mild pleasant flavor, left tails on before battering and couldn't tell what's what after frying- had to spit'em out. Could do better. Coconut sauce is very delicate, too much shredded coconut texture in dish as whole. BBQ ribs; tomato based sauce. The execution is good, but not for you if expecting traditional American BBQ. I would not order them. Bells Ribeye; freakin huge. If your expectations are in line- its awesome. But dont expect a NYC style steak- salted & seared. This is unseasoned and grilled with a little grill/flame flavor and no heavy sear. It was cooked BEAUTIFULLY though. However, carrot side was pretty boring. Chicken joshua; this is a big no-go. Waitress said it was most popular out of the teo options I asked about, but it was a whole Thick ch8cken breastfeeding thst I'd impossible to cook evenly without turning to shoe leather, and that is exactly why my steak knife had met its ma5ch here. Side salad was just like that container of greens from shoprite, mostly looked good but had lots of totally pushed out rotten leaves mixed in and was in no way getting eaten. Overall, not their strong suit- avoid. Cheesecake; mom's a French culinary pastry arts grad, and she loved it. Flourish choc cake; not bad. They use Hershey's syrup- thats gotta go & get replaced with ganache, passionfruit coulis or somethin to match thr rest of the restaurant. Its not doing the place justice.
Beautiful atmosphere! Kind servers but slow. The food was spotty. The bread was fresh and delicious. The zucchini sticks were too thick with the batter falling off. I ordered duck, which is one of my favorite, was sadly overcooked chewy and served cold. Meanwhile, my wife ordered the Ossobucco with risotto that was excellent! I believe they would improve their quality if they shorten the menu and focus on their expertise.
The food was good for the most part (BLT came without bacon but I think we must have accidentally gotten one someone had ordered like that) but the service was a bit slow. The pierogis were good and the vibes were nice! The patio is great, it was just a little toasty.
This is a great place for an intimate dinner for couples or groups. The service was great and the food was good. We were also offered complimentary bourbon shots.
This was my first time coming to this restaurant and my family. We went for my daughtera birthday dinner with grandma and grandpa. We didn't get apps we got some salads instead. I got the Ahi Tuna, my wife got the lamb, my mom got salmon dish and my dad got chicken dish. My tuna was really good. I wasn't expecting the little heat from the salad dressing but I really enjoyed it, wasabi dressing! All of our food was really good. For dessert we got to spilt was the polish apple pie and creme burlee. Our waitress was very good. Would definitely go back!
Atmosphere: I had hoped to have a better experience. The building itself is interesting with the quirky charm that an historic home converted to a restaurant should have. That is with the exception of the loud intermittent hum, which i assume is hvac related and is pretty annoying. Food: Unfortunately, the lackluster food is what accounts for the low rating. The calamari was chewy, completely underwhelming, and crowded in a shallow bowl. My dinner partner's French Onion Soup was "fine. " The seared scallops over angel hair pasta special was ire raising at $38. The 4 scallops were smallish, seared on one side, over-cooked, and served on little more than a cup of buttered angel hair pasta; see pictures with fork added for scale. The $42 Beef Wellington was received well by my dinner mate, who noted that it was cooked nicely and that the potatoes and asparagus were tasty, though the presentation would have benefited from a little separation between the components. Drinks: The sangria pitcher was nice, contained apples and some citrus, lasted through dinner, and approached value at $35. Bottom line: $147 before tip for 2 people should yield a better culinary experience than the frozen seafood mediocrity of a chain restaurant; at Bell's it did not.
We visited Bell's Mansion in Stanhope specifically to try the Beef Wellington, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark. The dish was decent, but it lacked the flavor and finesse we were hoping for, especially given the anticipation. The service also left something to be desired. Our server seemed rushed and distracted, likely due to a large party that came in around the same time. While we understand things can get hectic, it did affect the overall experience and made it feel a bit impersonal. The ambiance of the place is charming, and the rest of the menu looked promising, but overall, the experience was good—not great. It’s a nice spot, but we probably won’t be raving about it or rushing back anytime soon.
I been wanting to come here for quite sometime now. Everyone talked up their Beef Wellington as the best around. It was our Anniversary so we decided to take the 1 hr drive to Bell’s Mansion. My boyfriend made a reservation for 7:30p on a Saturday night. We arrived 20 mins early so we sat at the bar first, and had a couple of their signature cocktails. We both ordered their FRENCH MARTINI-Grey Goose Vodka, Chambord, and a Splash of Pineapple Juice. They were excellent. The two lady bartenders were so sweet, friendly and nice. They made excellent drinks. We wound up being seated at 8:40p even with our reservation. We were very surprised that we were seated outside. We figured since it was our anniversary we’d be seated in their dining room. We were both dressed up thinking this was a dressier place. On their web page they say their business casual. People walked in wearing very casual shorts and tees, like they were hanging in their local bar. This is not what I was expecting. The hostess seated us. Our table outside was lopsided. My boyfriend had to get on his hands and knees and put napkins underneath the legs because our drinks kept sliding down the table. All the servers were busy and there weren’t any busboys to help. It just seemed like they had too many people and not enough servers. To make matters worse they had a big party going on inside in their dining room. This set everyone’s reservation back. Two ladies came in after us, and they were immediately seated. The two of them were immediately given water and their homemade bread. We continue to wait for another 20 mins before our server Christina came over. She was very friendly and nice, she did the best she could. We were told everything was backed up in the kitchen, too many people and a party going on inside. I placed our order for APPETIZER - SATAY TRIO- Marinated Chicken,Shrimp, and Beef in a Salsa Verde Sauce. It was good except it wasn’t hot. I also placed my order with the appetizer for two BEEF WELLINGTON DINNERS.(By the way, the Beef Wellington’s are $42 not $26.) I ordered both Beef Wellington’s med- rare more to the rare side instead of medium. We finally got bread and water, then waited another 20 minutes for appetizer, and another 30 minutes for our Beef Wellingtons. By this time we were starving. The presentation of my Beef Wellington was lovely. My only issue with my Beef Wellington was it was completely overcooked to Medium and my food wasn’t hot it was barely room temp. I’m not a fan of cold unseasoned mashed potatoes, they needed salt and pepper. My boyfriend’s beef Wellington was fine.I kept quiet because I didn’t want to ruin our Anniversary dinner. I knew if I sent it back it would probably be another 20 to 30 minutes and by that time I was done. After dinner Christina gave us a house shot of Polish Nalewka Driadka. The servers walk around with it and give out shots. It had a very interesting taste, like nothing I’ve ever tasted. We asked for more bread but they ran out. Their bread is all homemade and it was delicious. There wasn’t much ambience. Outside is a long L shaped bar and a bunch of wooden tables and chairs. There was a hillside garden but not a lot was in bloom. I got a bit cold, because I didn’t know I’d be sitting outside, and I didn’t have a jacket. I don’t know if I would return. If I did it would be for one of their sandwiches on their homemade bread. Their Beef Wellington for me was a bust! I wouldn’t waste the money on it. If I came here I’d get one of their huge sandwiches instead. We did not order dessert because it was already 10:30p and I was pretty disappointed.
I have been to this place 3-4 times now and love the atmosphere and food is pretty good. Today I took my parents here and they had a pretty large event. Service was very slow and our main dish took a long time to arrive (more than a hour). A couple behind us got up and left. I had to get up and ask for the food. After appetizers, dirty dishes were left on the table. I saw waitresses going back/forth like crazy. My take is is definitely not the staff fault. If you choose to have a pretty large event why not have extra staff to take care of your other customers? I was pretty disappointed and had told wonders about the place to my parents visiting NJ. They were very disappointed as well.
Came for dinner for my mother in laws birthday it was mediocre at best for the price. I have had better food at restaurants for much less. I would not come back. The atmosphere was not enough to warrant a return visit.
Exquisitely Underwhelming -- this place is ALL "style" (ambience) and NO (0%) "substance" ... the food we had was ALL extremely "bland" and almost tasteless PLUS! the most annoying thing about it all was WE ASKED REPEATEDLY for our Shrimp, Salmon And Lobster to be cooked "well done" (firm) and even tho the waitress asked if the Shrimp on the Caesar Salad app was cooked enuff and I said "NO!, can they cook my entree much more than this" it came out under-cooked and fleshy - I didn't even eat 3/4 of the shrimp on my dish because it was so undercooked (like "shrimp sushi!") and NO acknowledgement from the management or wait staff that my order was COMPLETELY not prepared to my likening after REPEATED requests (!) also, the super SWEET Mashed Potatoes “side” served under the (unseasoned) Salmon overpowered the “main” fish-dish totally... we will never ever go back to this overpriced place who obviously don't care about their customers one bit! Awful! Stay away ! Ugh!
Don’t get the hype. The place looked like an old creepy dead people’s mansion from the 1800s with old ancient pictures everywhere, old grandma decor. The Thanksgiving dinner —the shredded turkey 3 oz portion arrived on top of the mashed potatoes and gravy—all just mixed in and splashed on top, the roasted veggies were overdone, the sausage stuffing was dry and tasted like cardboard, the dessert (some syrupy ice cream thingy) might as well have been from a soft serve machine. The only redeeming factor was our waitress. She was polite and very sweet. Bottom line: overhyped.
