Opinions de Fish Noodle House Staten Island
Medium curry is quite spicy but really good. The Katis is nice and crispy with perfect rice. I wish they had the red ginger garnish! It can be pricey to add a la cart miso and salad to round out the curry. The previous time they had live guitar.
The curry is phenomenal. Got the chicken katsu and ez original, both incredible. Medium has a decent amount of spice in it, hot is quite spicy! Highly recommend. Yes the interior is like a hole in the wall. Come for the food.
Volcano Curry is one of my favorite spots in San Francisco.** It’s a no-frills counter-service restaurant with amazing portions and even better prices. They specialize in Japanese comfort food—curries, chicken katsu, croquettes, tempura—and recently added a Japanese noodle soup, which I was really excited about because I love noodle soups. I’ve ordered their chicken katsu in many forms, and it’s always excellent. Their chicken katsu sandwich is hands down the best deal in the city: a triple-decker, cooked to order, crispy and flavorful, with just the right amount of sauce and cabbage. One sandwich easily feeds two people. They also offer mini sandwiches, which are perfect when I want to share an entrée with my 13-year-old son and still have something on the side. The service is always friendly, and the space is clean and well-organized. I especially appreciate their trash and recycling system—it’s the most detailed I’ve ever seen, with separate bins for everything. There are always people dining here, which makes it feel welcoming without being overcrowded. I know I can always get a table, and it’s never awkwardly empty. Volcano Curry is our go-to spot whenever I pick up my son from his dad’s place nearby. It’s a solid neighborhood restaurant that consistently hits the spot.
Recommended by a friend and it was so tasty. We shared two dishes. The chicken katsu sando was huge, even when it was split in half. It was crispy but light. I spooned a bit of the sauce from the curry onto the sando and it was perfect. For the tendon curry, we braved it by ordering medium spicy (mild is not spicy at all) and let's just say, will stick with mild next time. If you are sensitive to spiciness, the medium will taste like fire. There were carrots and potatoes (not mushy) in the curry and boy was it delicious despite being hella spicy. There was a lot of tendon and beef. Super stuffed and cannot wait to come back again!
Took my family for the first time. Small seating area. Not crowded in a Sunday lunch time. Customer service very helpful explains the menu. Ordered 3 chicken katsu sandwiches, spam katsu, and chicken katsu curry. All very good. Curry medium spicy was perfect for me. Portions good size. Parking is very hard in the area. Can’t wait to go back.
Rich, flavorful and delicious Japanese curry; certainly among the best in the city. I loved the Chicken Katsu and will have to come back to try more menu options! Their Medium wasn’t too too spicy. My only complaint would be that their trash system, albeit sustainable, was fairly confusing. Was I supposed to scrape my remaining curry into the bin?
Delicious Japanese curries at your desired spice level, fast, and at a good price. The chicken katsu curry is great. The decor is very basic; you're there for the food. However, what earns this 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that even when dining in, the food is served in plastic take-out containers. That includes soups, and everything is served piping hot, which can leach chemicals from the plastic into the food. It's also a lot of waste, with disposable plastic cutlery as well as disposable chopsticks and the containers.
I actually really like this place. The curry is very good and they give you veggies along with your protein choice. Came back here after a long time and the flavors are just as I remember it - delicious. What surprised me and caused a 4 star vs 5? I choose to dine in, because I dont want to eat out of plastic. What did I get? Great food in a to-go container, now plastic utensils and they still ask you to put the used plastics in the previous dining wear wash bins. What is even the point? Might as well tell us to throw it in the trash. At least theres still regualr cups for water vs paper cups...
Love this place, I always have their chicken katsu curry. The only thing I would like to see improved is their quantity is not standard. Sometimes you get less some times more. Which is kind of a bummer but I guess it won’t stop me from ordering from them haha.
This place is great! Very simple establishment with a few tables, but quick on the orders and you can get up to an insane level of spice! Their prices have steadily risen in the past few years, so I hope that means they are paying their employees well. I recommend their Burger Steak Curry and Onion & Ginger Pork Curry. Beware that parking in this area is considerably hard during lunch time.
Recommendation: Order to-go! I dined in with a party of 4 and the wait times were pretty long. The atmosphere is very casual. Order at the counter and sit at an available table, waiting for up to an hour. The curry, soft vegetables, crispy protein, and freshly cooked rice is delicious. Volcano is HOT but can be handled by those who love spicy. Service is very weak when dining in as they seem to prioritize to-go orders. We waited for a long time to receive 4 orders and another 20 minutes to receive an extra ordered cup of curry. Our orders were also labeled incorrectly so some of us were eating spicier/milder curry than we wanted. The price is worth it; just don’t dine in if you don’t have time.
Volcano Curry is a causal, counter-serve Japanese curry restaurant in Central Richmond, San Francisco. In addition to curry, they also serve sandwiches, soups, and side orders. The menu is on the smaller side. The restaurant has signs asking patrons to not play cards, to not bring in outside food, and to not put the to-go boxes in the trash can (there’s a separate bin for those). There’s also a sign to order at the counter before taking a seat, then another that they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Lots to read! Whether dining in or not, everything is served in a microwave safe to-go container. The veggies that come with the curry are carrots and potatoes. I admittedly don’t have much experience with Japanese curries, but this is similar to the few I’ve had in the past. I enjoyed the sauce-to-rice ratio, and it was filling. For a quicker bite, this would be a good option. It wouldn’t be good for groups or hanging with a friend for a while.
Food: The burger steak curry was really good. Theo curry is one of the top 3 in the Bay Area in my opinion. Would recommend. Also their katsu sandwich was huge and tasty. Atmosphere: Feels like a hole in the wall, the only knockback is that parking is very difficult to find.
Really tasty curry. Spicy with a deep and rich luxurious texture. Good stuff. The burger steak was moist even upon delivery. The same can be said for the katsu still being crispy. The slider is the sleeper hit though, good lord. That little guy is beyond delicious. All in all tasty stuff.
This is a fast food style Japanese curry restaurant in Outer Richmond. From ordering, to taking your own utensils, finding your own table, and cleaning up yourselves. Lady at the register sounded not so happy and tone was pretty blunt and not so friendly when my husband hesitated a bit on his order. The interior, was more of a local cafe setting instead of Japanese. We ordered a medium and spicy and hot spicy Katsu curry, the texture of the katsu was very crunchy and just fried freshly. Not much of the meat juice was remained since the pork was sliced a little too thin comparing to the katsu in Japan. The portion of the rice was enough to fill me up (I’m a small size Asian women), though it did not satisfy my husband’s big stomach. As I cook Japanese curry blocks at home quite often, I noticed this curry is missing the ingredient-onion. Not sure if this is the restaurant’s special recipe or they could have left the onions in the pot. My husband also complained about the amount of plastics they’ve used by using take out boxes for dine in customers and disposable utensils, not being environmentally friendly.
Be warned. If you order door dash on rush hour evening anytime from 6-730pm. It will take forever to arrive. I placed my order at 6pm. And my dasher reassigned twice. Make arrival time late and late. I canceled and got credit. Food is great though.
This place used to be that girl when it came to Japanese curry in SF. Like, they built their whole identity around it. I used to order from here constantly because it actually scratched that nostalgic itch for real Japanese curry. It was comforting, flavorful, and dependable. Now? It's giving cafeteria food at luxury prices. First of all, let’s talk about the pickles. They used to give you like, four sad little pieces (barely there, but fine). Then one day they just... disappeared. No explanation. But somehow, the DoorDash menu still gives you the option to remove them, like they’re actually included. Be serious. Now they’ve got the nerve to charge extra for them. For what? Four pickles and a memory? Then there’s the chicken. It’s actually impressive how they managed to make something deep-fried this dry and rubbery. It's mostly just breading now, wrapped around what I assume is chicken but could honestly be anything at this point. The curry sauce? Flavorless. Bland. Feels like they forgot to season it, tasted it, and just said “meh, it’s fine.” I also caved and ordered two eggs today. That’s $4 for eggs that taste like they were boiled last week and stored in a shoebox. Normally I add my own, but I was feeling lazy. Big mistake. Huge. And the real kicker? I added spinach for an extra $3 (because I hate myself apparently), and suddenly they decided I only deserve two baby potatoes instead of the usual four or five. So now we’re just subtracting parts of the dish because I added something? Math isn't mathing. So now we’re looking at almost $30 for one sad, microwavable container of dry chicken, watery curry, $2 eggs, non-existent potatoes, and vibes. That’s it. Just vibes. Calories. This place used to be the go-to. Now it’s giving “we buy everything from Restaurant Depot and hope no one notices.” I don’t know if management changed or if they just stopped caring, but wow. They really said "let's charge more and give less." If you're thinking about ordering, don’t. Save your money. Or better yet, just make curry at home. At least then, when it’s disappointing, you only have yourself to blame.
My husband ordered veggie curry and I ordered chicken curry (not fried), his was just ok but mine wasn’t good at all. They just boiled the chicken separately and poured the sauce on top, as you can see from the pictures. I expected them to cook the chicken in the sauce so the meat could absorb the flavor. Instead, it was just curry sauce with boiled chicken, 2 pieces of undercooked potato, 2-3 pieces of carrot and we both got undercooked rice. The chicken itself was almost ground up, like it was leftover meat or something. We’ve ordered from this place a few times over the past few months. First time was good tho, last few times were just okay, but this time was really bad especially mine
