Wonderful first time experience there last week. Was with a large group for my girlfriends birthday party dinner celebration. Excellent service, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. In addition the food was delicious. Highly recommend ordering the parapadilla, four different meats (steak, grilled chicken, spicy Mexican pork and chorizo), along with rice, beans, peppers, cactus. One of the best meals I've ever had. Will come again soon.
This Restaurant is the real meaning of an authentic Mexican food. We went on Sunday night for dinner for two people. When you enter the place you feel the touch from the decorations. We were seated and a menu was given to us. The waiter and staff are very polite and professional. The food were served 10 minutes sharp after we ordered. So here you will not wait long if you are hungry or in a rush. We ordered iguana tacos which were the best tacos i have ever had in my life for affordable price and fajita mix (beef, chicken and shrimps). The presentation is very good and the taste are perfect. Fresh ingredients is the key for the taste I believe. It was hot and full filing. The prices are little bit high for the fajita plate $28, but why to blame them with this high inflation and trying to make a profit. I would totally recommend this local business who is owned by a family who is working hard to give the best fot Staten island and to make a living. If you are near by Staten island or you are a resident you should consider trying this amazing place. And you will not regret it.give it a try
Love this place. Passed it many times and never knew ... wait staff was friendly kind and courteous. The Nachos platter was to die for.. I've never had one taste so real homade before everywhere else it was commercial grade... Not Here our dinners were fresh and stated extraordinary. I would recommend to all my followers to please try this place, You won't regret it...!!!☆☆☆☆☆.. My next trip back I'm 🤪 going to try thr Margheritas.....
La Iguana Azul was a great restaurant. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. The steak burrito is to die for. My son had the steak quesadilla and my wife had the chicken breast with rice and black beans. I will definitely be coming back.
Very good authentic Mexican. Chorizo Tacos met my high standards. Enchiladas were good, but I got the wrong order. I ordered the mole and received the green sauce. Not a huge deal. Still was good. Service was fine.
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing atmosphere, the food is on point. A must try... and return. Great customer service. Parking is tricky especially when they are busy but it is manageable.
La Iguana Azul is definitely a place you want to come dine in. The dining room is nicely themed and there wait staff was very attentive and warm. I found the food to be top notch and their drinks were working exceptional. My only criticism would be that the menu is a little confusing and could use a makeover.
Authentic and quaint, friendly and attentive staff, coconut margaritas were fabulous 👏🏻 we had chicken tostadas and spicy chicken sopes. Food is fresh and flavorful!
Great Mexican restaurant in the heart of great kills. Went on a Sunday evening and it was not busy at all. We got the chicken torta and mushroom quesadillas. Both were delicious. Was surprised by the mushroom quesadillas. It was perfectly season and given in large portions I will definitely come back based in quality food, service, and the overall experience.
Great food, awesome staff. Explain the food to me very good. Told them to pick out what they think is the best and they didn't disappoint
Order pick up. Although sat at rhe bar for happy hour dinks and my fav magaritas Love it
Great little unassuming hidden local gem. Came here by accident looking for another place and was happy it happened. Drinks were made with fresh squeezed juices and the food felt authentic. Met the family that owns and runs the restaurant who were very accommodating. Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic menu!! Covers everything and everyone!! So reasonably priced, especially in these hard times. Awesome food!! Golden gem in Staten Island. Met a couple from San Antonio who said it was the best Mexican food they have had in NYC. WHAT AN ENDORSEMENT!!
I love this place I go all the time the Prime Rib sandwich is an unbeatable deal and the wings are phenomenal
Chris was great made me great Bloody Mary. Sunday quiet great Service. Veggie burger was very fresh. Enjoyed. Thank you Chris
Great bar and the chef has always been a staple of great kills!
Great Bar food, had the wings, Burger, and egg rolls all very good.
I went there last night after a wake. With a group of people. from the service to the food I can't say enough good things about the place. Everybody said how they will definitely be going back there. Very nice place amazing staff.
Went there on Saturday. Was pleasantly surprised how nice the staff was. The food was awesome. They had on the Rangers Game. Every single sporting event i could think of. The drinks were awesome. The food was awesome. The owner John came over to us to make sure if we needed anything. Really made us feel like family. Also they built up the darts. The place is beautiful. Good luck to the new owners. I can truly recommend JDs tavern. You want a nice night out without headache. Also being treated so nicely with good food and drinks. This is the place for you!!
Nicely done! Went to a fundraiser last night. Great turn out. Food looked delicious. Can't wait to try it. Will definitely be going back!
I apologize for acting a full a few months back, I tool the wrong medication and drank and had a bad reaction. HAVEN'T been back but have been there 4 or 5 times and the food and people are wonderful there. Definitely worth going. I highly recommend. Joey the bartender is the best there and the burgers are amazing 👏
Stopped in Friday night, called ahead to make sure they weren't too busy. Young lady on the phone asked how many we would be and made sure a table was ready. (very nice). Great burgers and Irish fare was awesome, Got the shepherds pie and Irish egg rolls. Service was terrific. Excellent local place. we will definitely be returning
Excellent Service and friendly staff. Went with another couple who are true food critics and very hard to please. However they couldn't stop saying how delicious everything was. Appetizers were out of this world. We had Egg roll sampler and the Irish Nachos and we all ordered hamburgers which was very juicy and delicious. Located right in Great Kills Town. Can't believe I live so close and never tried going before. Well now that I know i will be a regular for sure.
This is a great place to eat and to bring your friends and family for a great night! They have an awesome staff and they're food is delicious!! The owners are always there and always come around to talk to everyone! Love his place and would definitely come again!
The Cubano sandwich was incredibly tasty. Highly recommend it. Also really liked the Iguana tacos. Rest of the tacos were normal Mexican flare. We had a pitcher of the passion fruit margarita. It was good.
I'd seen this place around for a while now and it is quite big, with an outdoor space adjacent to the lot behind the next door lim service building. They had recently done up their exterior. The interior remains festive and lit with loud music and televisions showing sports, usually. It's a convenient location near the train stop and also right off Amboy. I came for a bite later at night after work and there were only two waiters running the floors. It wasn't empty and there were perhaps two louder parties, one at the bar and one at the tables. So service felt a little sparse. The food was mediocre but priced reasonably for the portions. It will fill you up. The gambas de ajillo were served lukewarm on a plate, contrary to how they would usually be served in hot oil. The pork skin quesadilla was filled abundantly with boiled pork skin. Do not order this if you are expecting a crunchy chicharron. The meat was well flavored, but the tortilla used was very thick. It held together well, though, and was expectedly filling. The sangria they have was a bit lacking in much punch of flavor. Overall, not a bad place to satisfy some cravings.
The only reason for 4 stars is there’s a funky mold smell at this place. But other than that, food and service is great and the best rice and BEANS I’ve had it’s delicious and taste so good from other Mexican restaurants I’ve eaten. This place is kind of a hidden gem and I’ve been wanting to go here but, every-time I see it from outside it is not inviting at all and or doesn’t look like it’s open or shady not sure why it’s like that. But once your inside, WOW! Finally went in this time around so very happy that I did. I just wish the smell improves but ones your inside, I guess you’ll get used it. I love that they have outdoor too. Btw, they only have 4 parking spot and could be double parking if you have two cars with your friend but, someone parked right in front of me and I wouldn’t be able to get out if the one next to me didn’t move but, it worked out lol. Overall, affordable and very good food loved it!
Very nice Mexican restaurant. It has a varied menu, very good service and prices are reasonable.
I got the chicken enchilada, comes with rice and beans. My friend got grilled fish, also came with rice and beans. The sangria was tasty but we needed an extra shot in it to make it work. The food was fresh but too bland. The atmosphere is nice. We sat outside
Tried this spot out again after not having been here since they changed the name. Decided to come with a few friends to watch the football game. The bar area itself was packed, so we ended up sitting further in the back and were able to grab a table. When we asked about game day specials, we were told rather bluntly that they only start once the ball is kicked off. That’s fair enough as a policy, but the way it was said came off more rude than informative, which wasn’t a great first impression. As we looked over the menu, we figured out what we wanted pretty quickly and were ready to order. The problem was, our server seemed completely overwhelmed. She was running back and forth constantly between the bar and the tables, but everyone sitting at the bar seemed to be her main focus. We were sitting in the back, and it felt like we were forgotten about. For at least 25 minutes, she walked past our table multiple times without even looking our way. Eventually, we had to wave her down just to get her attention and ask if we could finally place an order. To be fair, once she came over with her notepad she did apologize for the delay, so at least she was aware that the service wasn’t up to par. After that, things smoothed out a little, but only slightly. We were never offered water, and when the food finally arrived, no utensils came with it. I tried to flag the server down, but she disappeared again, so I had to get up and find forks myself from a small counter nearby. That’s the kind of detail that makes the whole experience feel disorganized and frustrating. The food itself was fine, nothing special, just typical bar food. Exactly what you’d expect, nothing more, nothing less. But the biggest issue here wasn’t the food, it was the service. I don’t want to put all the blame on the server, she was clearly trying but it was obvious she was juggling way too much. It looked like she was acting as the bartender, server, hostess, and overall manager of the floor all at once, which is simply too much responsibility for one person. The end result is that tables like ours got neglected, and the basics (water, utensils, timely service) were overlooked. For a first real visit under the new name, I can’t say I’m impressed. The food is fine, but if the service isn’t addressed, I don’t see myself or others rushing back. That said, I am willing to give this place a second chance because I do think the core problem is staffing, not effort. My suggestion to management: hire more people, especially on busy game days, and don’t leave one person responsible for three different jobs. Customers notice when service falls apart, and it overshadows everything else.
Went for dinner and drinks, waitress gave us our drinks and never came back to take our food order. I even flagged her down so I could just pay for our beers and get out of there (after 45 minutes) but she still never came back. In her defense, a pub crawl stopped in with 40 people and I believe she was all on her own (place got PACKED to occupancy in the short time after we arrived). I will give it another try, hopefully I’ll get to eat next time.
Party of 14 for my brothers birthday dinner at 6pm. Didn’t want to ruin my appetite so I didn’t eat all day looking forward to eat here. Arrived and quickly ordered the mezcal margarita and the best part of the evening. Margarita gets 4 stars. We ordered the calamari, chips and guacamole as starter. Calamari was bland and was like chewing on fried flour bitters. The guac needed salt, lime, and cilantro.cause it was also bland. When a Mexican restaurant can’t get the guac right says a lot about their food and a warning of what’s to come or expect. I ordered the shrimp fajita and to be honest it was decent after I added some salt cause it lacked flavor. Looking around the table and other families expression of their food they were not impressed. This establishment is a solid 3 stars but they lost another star for their service. One element I noticed here is that service, the waiter and servers were kids. I asked one of them how old he was he was and he said 16. I respect and commend kids wanting to work and establishments giving them the opportunity, but not on a Saturday night. How much experience can a 16 year have when asked for recommendations, not that I did. There were other staff that were older walking around from table to table kind off supervising. Not a place that left me wanting to come back.
I went here with my family recently, and the experience was honestly disappointing from start to finish. We were seated quickly, but it went downhill after that. Our server seemed more interested in chatting with coworkers than taking care of our table. We had to ask multiple times just to get water refills, and when the food finally came out, one of the orders was wrong. Instead of apologizing, the server gave us an attitude like it was our fault. My parents were shocked at how unprofessional it was, it made the whole meal uncomfortable. Definitely not somewhere I’d bring family again. The staff clearly don’t care about the customers. Save your money and go literally anywhere else.
I been coming here for a while now and everytime the food is not that good. The vibe is great during games and when they have live entertainment and that's about it.
worst food i’ve tried waitress took there sweet time and wasn’t polite food was not prepared or cooked well
leaving one star just because i actually enjoyed the atmosphere, food and drinks, but i was here semi recently and i didn’t want to have to write this review but i want to give them the chance to correct it. Flanagan has always been a staple!! I was here recently with a few people and it took forever to get the bartenders attention, alright ok i’ll give it to her, sometimes they can get busy, but it wasn’t. when we finally got her attention she slurred a lot, seemed abit disoriented, i could smell alcohol comming off of her but i figured behind the bar it’s bound to happen, so i smiled acted like it was fine even tho it took over 10 mins to get her attention, i like to give the benefit of the doubt. but..WRONG. straight drinking infront of us, in and out of the bathroom, doing god knows what. and i don’t want to name any names since this is online but who ever owns or manages maybe you can put 2 and 2 together, she had blondish hair some eyelashes abit sporatic i didn’t bring it up at the time all and all but i mean i was completely dissatisfied, spend good bucks at flanagens and hopefully they can fix this so i can feel comfortable enough to come back and not waste my money. FYI if i wanted to get ignored all night and leave unsatisfied i would’ve stayed home with my husband… 😳😳🫠
Nice atmosphere and the food was ok. It’s the usual pub menu. My order was wrong (kitchen error) and the service was not good at all. Waitress/bar maid was elsewhere most of the time. There were only two other tables being served so i can’t say that they were overwhelmed. Anyway, they did attempt to make good on the error, but I just wanted out of there. I won’t be returning
