Amazing menu. I'm definitely going back here.
I didn't know what to expect here as I generally don't like German food. I figured I would be able to find something to eat on the menu. I opted for the German Shepherd's Pie, and I couldn't believe how incredible it was. The portion was more than generous, and I honestly couldn't get enough of it. Despite being full I couldn't stop eating it. I remarked to my friend that I was tempted to pick up the dish it came in and lick it clean. She got the pierogis and the German Shepherd's Pie as well, and while she liked the pierogis, she faced th same problem with the Shepherd's Pie - she couldn't stop eating it!! We both rolled out of there that night vowing to go back soon to have it again. We wound up there the next day and each goes the German Shepherd's Pie again. If we had wallets large enough, we would be back much more often! Great wait staff, nice atmosphere, and the food is top notch!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OUTSTANDING – A True Taste of Germany in Staten Island Killmeyer’s Old Bavarian Inn delivered an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance transported us straight back to Germany—the stained glass, warm wood, and traditional décor create an atmosphere that is both authentic and timeless. The food was absolutely superb. We started with the Pancake Experience, Baby Spinach, Forest Mushrooms, and the 3-Sausage Sampler—each dish executed perfectly, rich with traditional flavors and clearly made with care and quality ingredients. The Brezel Burger with American cheese was outstanding, and the Pierogies were comforting, hearty, and spot-on. Pairing everything with a ½-liter Spaten Lager was the perfect touch. We finished with Apple Strudel, which was nothing short of excellent—warm, flavorful, and a perfect ending to a memorable meal. Killmeyer’s isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Authentic cuisine, generous portions, attentive service, and an atmosphere that truly takes you back to Bavaria. This is a Staten Island gem and easily one of the best German dining experiences we’ve had. Amanda was great Bravo!!!. We’ll absolutely be back. —
Last night my wife and I had a great dinner at the famous Killmeyer’s German restaurant. It was fantastic from beginning to end. We started with potato pancakes forest wives mushrooms (beyond delicious) great salad and a great goulash soup entree sauerbraten and we split an apple strudel that was amazing. Beer was excellent service excellent. Great night
We hosted my husband’s 50th birthday party here, and everything was fabulous from start to finish. The service was outstanding, the waitstaff didn’t miss a beat all evening and were attentive and professional throughout. The food was excellent, as always, especially when you’re craving authentic German cuisine. Best of all, hosting here did not break the bank. I would absolutely recommend this venue and would not hesitate to host an event here again.
Everything was delicious from the appetizers to the desserts. The pierogis, pretzels and potato pancakes are our go to appetizers but every one we've tried is yummy. The entrees always look beautiful when they are served and taste just as good. The fresh apple strudel is one of our favorite desserts. We've gone for casual dinners and birthday celebrations and our servers are always friendly.
We moved to New York from Europe two years ago, and we finally found a place with amazing food and delicious beer brewed right here. Every dish is simply excellent. The live music is very good. I’m glad I found this pub.
This is incredible place. If you really want to enjoy fantastic atmosphere, come here. The food is AMAZING. Very unique. German beer and lovely staff. I just discovered this place and visited it second time within a week. Impressed so much.
First time here but certainly won’t be the last. Amazing staff, everyone was extremely friendly. Authentic selection of beers will not disappoint. Menu just as good with GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS!! Had the pretzels and pancakes, followed by half chicken and sampler bratwurst. We skipped dessert but was told by the bartender (who knows a lot about the history of the place so ask questions) that we were making a mistake so we will be back.
We had such a wonderful experience here having lunch with friends. We were seated immediately and was greeted by a warm and friendly waitress named Sarah. She helped us select some beers and brought us samples so we could taste and make our decision. We ordered some wonderful appetizers and then our lunch entrees. Everything was so tasty and freshly made. We will be back again.
Their steady business comes mostly from repeat customers and referrals. The meal was perfect! The neighborhood's culinary standard-bearer. Employees make customers feel special with personal greetings. This restaurant satisfies my taste and I share that.
I had the pastrami sandwich and it was absolutely delicious! Robbie, my son, had a cheeseburger and he loved it. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I appreciate that they are wheelchair accessible and the parking is free, though the lot is on the smaller side. Overall, a wonderful experience for both adults and kids.
Absolutely incredible spot. The old German decor & style had me reading the back of the menu about its entire history. Food was impeccable & portions are huge - especially that goulash soup. Service was friendly & efficient. I would absolutely travel from the North Shore just to have dinner here for the atmosphere & food. 10/10 highly recommend.
Haven't been here for a long time and I was surprised to find that the food and service was very good as I remember it. Beautiful old world decor made it very cozy. The pretzel appetizer was huge and very tasty. Venison and cherry sausage were delicious. Our entrees were Beef goulash, beef brisket, roast beef sandwich and pastrami sandwich. Each of us was very impressed with the dishes and commented on how good they tasted. Definitely will be back for dinner soon!
Recently visited Killmeyer's Old Bavaria Inn in Staten Island and tried their burger - absolutely delightful! The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of flavors. The bun was fresh, and the toppings were generous, adding to the overall deliciousness. The atmosphere of the place added to the experience, making it a memorable meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great burger in Staten Island. Definitely going back for more!
Delicious. Highly recommend the jumbo pretzel with beer cheese and the chicken schnitzel. The restaurant was absolutely empty. One other table for two was filled. Shocking for a Friday evening. People began showing up around 9pm. The live music was enjoyable. Our server was more than happy to allow any substitutions for sides included with our entrees.
This is the place to go for great German food! It’s interesting decorating inside and out too. The service was okay. If you’re looking for beer, then this is also a great place to get one. We tried a sausage platter and it was tasty! For the next time I will try pretzel and potato pancakes, someone said we must try this) On Friday night there was a live music performance. It was very pleasant to listen to popular hits and it added a good impression on the atmosphere in this restaurant.
Was there first time today, was in mood for some German beer and food. I was pleasantly surprised with the feel of the place, appears quite authentic with its decor. I got one light german draft beer that was a bit weak, and then got Octoberfest Spaten which was much better, so that's good. For food we got Killmeyers namesake dish which appeared to be beef pot roast with potato dumplings and red cabbage in some glaze. The beef was excellent, falling apart so easy and good quality. Unfortunately the glaze was sweet and just didn't go with the dish, so was the red cabbage, just too sweet. My wife got the goulash which was much more tasty than the sweet glaze so I'd recommend opting for that option. Overall I was pretty happy and would definitely go back for some sausages and more beer to try. Hoping next time it would be more 5 star experience.
I had a pleasant dinner here with my father and relatives. We ordered multiple items, and I had a chance to taste the Forest Wives Mushrooms, Bistro Salad, Oven Braised Beef Brisket, and Crème Brûlée. I also had a pear cider and coffee. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely, with jazz music playing and the old-fashioned Bavarian ambiance. The service was also excellent, though they took a bit longer than expected to bring us dessert. The location is convenient, with plenty of parking across the street.
Lunch at Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn, the oldest bar in Staten Island with the largest Hummel in the world! For appetizers, we had fried mushrooms and potato pancakes. For main courses, we had the Rouladen (sliced rolls of beef stuffed with smoked bacon, onions, mustard, and gherkins with red cabbage & potato dumplings), the Rahmschnitzel (pork cutlets with a creamy mushroom sauce, German home fries & vegetables), and Dusseldorf Chicken (in a wine sauce with shallots, mushrooms and Dijon with vegetables & whipped potatoes). For dessert, German chocolate cake. The food was good, the restaurant is charming, and the service was excellent.
It was a terrible experience. Three mothers with their children went to Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria for dinner and felt treated differently, disliked, and discriminated against. When we entered, they said there was a table for nine and a wait of about an hour. We were willing to split into two tables to reduce the wait time and were told it would be 40-50 minutes. However, after waiting for 90 minutes, two extremely rude waiters came to tell us there were no tables available. We questioned why this wasn't mentioned during registration, and another waiter came, trying to appease us with a friendly attitude and offering a $15 gift card as compensation. Was this a joke? A century-old restaurant treating customers with such low-class service—no matter how good the food, it's not worth going back to.
