Opinions de First Wok Sunnyvale
Tasty food; large portions; informal low end atmosphere; quieter than most restaurants. I can relax in blue jeans and a t-shirt. I'm a fan of rice noodles and this is one of the best places to get them.
You know what you're getting into when you get Chinese Fast Food. You understand that you're going to have a basic menu including rice, chow mein, and some meats. And the question is, how good is that selection? With First Wok, it's superlative. I've been coming here for years and it's never let me down. The basic 3 item combo is very filling - I recommend the chow mein, their house garlic chicken, and their salt and pepper fish, though their mapo tofu is also good. But if you're of a mind to sit down, their braised tofu is solid, and their wonton soup (again, you must order this from the menu) is divine. Their egg flower and hot and sour soups are also lovely - having a perfect thickness and flavor. It's not a particularly fancy place - it might not be my first choice for a date - but for a quick fix of delicious Chinese, First Wok can't be beat.
This place is very clean and friendly definitely a hidden gem in Sunnyvale I would come back more often my new favorite place 🥰🥰
The buffet is tasty, but my favorite is the steamed veggies and chicken from the menu. The staff is super polite and friendly, and the food is good quality. We eat here at least a couple of times a month!
Our go-to for Chinese. (Our = Us as in me, the husband, and whenever I need to order OT meals for our team at work.) Everyone loves the food from here, although the pre-prepped food obviously won't be that great. (Recommend ordering from the non- "combo meal" options.) Favorites are: Mushu pork, sesame chicken, hot & sour soup.
We went for a quick 3 item takeout and both enjoyed our meals.
I’ve been coming here for years even after I moved out of Sunnyvale. The service is always great. Honey Walnut Shrimp is where it’s at!
Love this place. The food is great and the ladies are so nice. Me and my husband go here all the time and it's easy since we live around the corner. ❤️❤️🍱
Delicious take out at a good price. Had the chicken and eggplant. Excellent taste and large portion size.
I really enjoy this place. They have this salt and pepper fish i am addicted to. They also have amazing hot and sour soup. Their service is always on point and they are all very kind. They accept debit cards but it has to be above 5 dollars, it shouldn't be a problem. Thank you so much for such delicious food First Wok
Ordered the Wonton soup and the Egg Flower soup over the phone, and arrived at the restaurant in a couple of minutes, and the order was ready for pickup in non-spill recyclable plastic containers. That was fast. The soups tasted pretty good.
The first wok is without a doubt, the best place for Chinese fast food in Sunnyvale. As you walk into the clean and neatly decorated interior you will be greeted by a warm welcome and a gentle atmosphere. Now, they do have an Express menu where you can grab some food under heat lamps and have a filling meal of average quality. Not bad, but not their best. The real quality shines when you get food from their sit-down menu. Without having to use the crutch of msg these chefs create the most flavorful fried rice, the juiciest bbq pork, and lightest and crunchiest fried shrimp... everything will make your mouth water, your tummy happy, and wont even break your wallet. If you want a wonderful experience from patient staff, clean and calm sitting area, and delicious food at a good price, the theres no place better than first wok.
I love this place! They have fast delivery and never mess up the order. The women who answers the phone at night is so nice and helpful. The honey walnut prawns and veggie chowmain are great! I've been ordering food from here for years now!
This is one of my regular lunch spots. I have been going here for years. The lady always remembers my order and is friendly. Expect a lot of food; at a good price. I personally prefer this type of Chinese food compared to a main-stream spot like "Panda." It's always clean and always friendly.
Love their food portions, taste and price. Very friendly service!
Best restaurant in town‼️ I usually order delivery and everytime the food shows up 45 minutes later piping hot and absolutely 💯 incredibly delicious. I don't order Chinese food from any other place. I've been a customer of First Wok for many years and nothing in California can give you better food or service. First Wok is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING❣️

If you are looking for Chinese fast food, this place is one of the best to get a two-item combo. You get lots of food for the price and the food is delicious. The chow mein is great and you get free soup with your combo. A hidden gem in Sunnyvale.
Cheap and delicious! But the sweet and sour chicken is not good. They should put the sauce on right before serving or put the sauce on the side.
I stopped by around 5:30 on 12/10/21, totally craving Chinese and hoping First Wok survived the shutdown. Not only were they open, I saw several folks inside eating. Very good sign! I used to only come here for take out at lunch time and never had to wait. Tonight I had time to look at the menu while I was in line. I'm glad I did because they have Ginger Beef! I also ordered 2 of my usuals from the heaping ready hot trays - Vegetable Rice Noodles (thin rice vermicelli) and String Bean Chicken. I used to get their unusually yummy Broccoli Beef, but I am now addicted to their Ginger Beef, which is beef with green onion greens and bits of fresh slivered ginger. Like Mongolian Beef with no chilis. And Kudos for still having paper take out boxes available! I hate flat plastic flip up trays. Which ALWAYS spill and are not microwavable!
Cobsistent freindly place we go to regularly. MSG free on request. Buffet style. Not self serve. Or fresh made to order. Good food. Nice service. Check it out.
6/4/2025 First Wok 653 S. Bernardo Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94087 I went there on a Wednesday evening to try their chow mein. It's at the back of the Safeway/Cherry Chase Center, lots of parking. It looks like a mostly take out place, nobody was there dining in. It's a clean table and chair setup with a slight Asian temple incense odor from an arrangement at the back of the restaurant. They have a large assortment of entrees in their steam table pans for the Express Line meals. I ordered the House Special Combination Pan Fried Noodle to go, since I didn't want to be the only guy eating there. My food was ready in about 10 minutes and the bag felt heavy, good value. The noodles were crispy and got chewier as the gravy soaked in. The combination consisted of shrimp, beef, chicken, pork, broccoli, celery, mushroom, cabbage, green onion and onion in a mild and tasty gravy. I was happy with my chow mein (good for 2+ meals) and would repeat for their other Cantonese dishes.
Great variety of foods in the hot bar. You can order al a cart and cook other dishes you may want to order.

First Wok has become a once to twice a week dining experience for me. They have both a Buffet set up as well as a Regular Menu to order from. I have utilized both and can recommend their buffet dishes while also singling out their various to order items like their mu shu dishes, their seafood soup, sizzling rice with chicken soup and wonton soup along with various lo mien dishes and their seafood dishes. I love pot stickers and theirs doesn't disappoint. All in all for the pricing, I consider them a step above in the quality of their food selection. I continue to highly recomnend them.
We have been coming her for a few years now. It’s good for what it is (Panda Express fast food style). I love the fish dishes and that they don’t charge extra for them. From the menu, I really like the chicken and sweet corn soup, the sesame chicken and the mixed vegetables with chicken delight.

Food is Not the best, but totally terrible. The chow mein is insanely good, they got it right with that. The lemon chicken not so good. The sweet and sour chicken not too bad. Overall decent.
My first experience was delivery, and it wasn't a very good experience. They are a sweet family, and I look forward to giving them another try.
Food is ok, definitely can make it more tastier. The restaurant is small but functional and the service is quick.
Buffet style restaurant for sit down. Microwave used to reheat food.
Very basic and unassuming Chinese restaurant, offering take out and dine-in, even though most patrons get the food to-go. Buffet bar style that offer 10-12 items daily, one of which must be a carb item. Generous portions and a large parking lot in a Safeway plaza.

Went to First Wok on a Saturday night and it was fairly empty. The food on display looked somewhat stale. Ordered the 3 item box -- food quantity was substantial (mainly the rice), food was somewhat warm, decent but not great. Not going back there.
Normally get white rice or veggie fried rice with veggies and prawns I fee like you can't mess these up. But I've tried other options and it's a no. And food always cold. And old. Boo.
The most mediocre Chinese place I've ever had. Egg rolls where tasteless, the hot and sour soup was tasteless, the chow fun was again tasteless. If you want terrible Chinese have at it. Otherwise find another place.
First Wok is one of those quick/nearby Chinese places with low quality food that you get on the way home or something. Ordered the Chicken Chow Fun and Vegetable Chow Fun with tofu. The portions are huge and can stretch one dish to a couple meals. The vegetarian dish I ordered had some meat in it, so docking a star for that. Would probably recommend going to a Panda Express or some other option nearby.

soup was good, food was cold and too sweet. good portions

Chicken chow mein had no chicken; crab Rangoon I had to spit out of my mouth.. super fishy; all the food was dry and they give no sauces. Steamed dumplings were good.
Bad food bad service. Youve been warned
Horrible experience. Steer clear. Food is nothing great.
Wasn't happy with the quality of good, or cleaniess of place. A friend of mine recommended this place to me that is why I tried it. But everything from customer service , good quality wasnt the best. I was on my lunchbreak. And I normally don't eat asian food but today I was like let's try it. Silverware were dirty I asked for got bun water cause they looked dirty. Didn't want to catch anything . I only ordered black and pepper fish , Fried rice, veggie egg rolls, and not and sour soup. Not good at all and cold.
Every cheap they don’t bring you any sauce when they deliver and I got a big order. Even when I pick up I ask for sauce and they just give 1 max 2 very small ones didn’t matter how much food you order. When you take out they give you no napkins or plastic fork/spoon.
Ordered delivery from here and didn't receive white rice, napkins, soy sauce, pot sticker sauce or plastic silverware. Given there wasn't rice, I figured they forgot and called them about the rice. After asking about it, they put me on hold as they discussed it in the background. Then they tried to tell me sorry their meals don't come with rice. Have you ever ordered Chinese where you had to order rice separate?
Horrible experience. Went to support this local business. Spent $40 on a meal just to support. I got: -beef & broccoli -fried veggie rice -crab Ragoon I get to the car and check everything and the crab ragoon was completely overcooked. Burnt, hard as ever. I go back in and got met with complete rudeness. “We don’t give refunds” “no we can’t remake” “If you don’t like you don’t order next time” The chicken and broccoli was completely dry also with barely any gravy and my fried rice was barely fried, pretty much white rice and at $40 for that mess I should have gotten QUALITY! Don’t recommend! 0 out of 10 Rude. Nasty food.
We went there to have lunch and I found a cockroach on my soup and when I showed it to the lady, she said that it's her boss policy that they don't give your money back but offered me another soup. I said seriously, you offering me another soup coming from the soup that I just found a cockroach on it. She said that I don't get my money back. The person standing ready to order left because they heard about the cockroach. I attached the photo I took. I won't go back there anymore
Usually the dishes are good, but today when I ordered the usual salt and pepper chicken and braised tofu, the braised tofu this time was dry like beef jerky. Called and requested if they could remake the dish but they said they were too busy and hung up on me even though I was still speaking. I visited this place many times before and it was an unfortunate experience that took me by surprise. Will not be visiting this business again.

This was always my favorite place for years and years. I since moved back to this area and ordered for the first time today. And spent $60 just for the food and a $15 tip. It was the worst food I have ever had. I have always ordered the wor wonton soup and it was not for wonton soup there was no bok choy, shrimp, or barbecue pork in it. It had frozen, corn and peas, chunks of mushrooms and spinach. The fried rice meat was on the verge of going bad, the crab ragan extremely fishy, and I didn't even want to try the beef and broccoli. I was fed up and just made myself a sandwich. So I'm going to tell everybody right now be very careful when you go there I hope I don't get food poisoning from what little I ate. They need to fire that cook!!
Scratched my throat trying to eat the noodles.. never experienced this before. Had high hopes this would become my new spot but I won’t be near this shop again.
Regularly went here, family would go once a week or sometimes twice. Man that helped my mom and brother yelled in front of them about the tip and left my younger brother feeling very uncomfortable. Very rude, will not be coming here anymore.
Mediocre food and nothing special. Next! UPDATE: My mistake for giving them a second chance. Ordered their chashu fried rice and they were really skimpy with the pieces of chashu. Also the rice grains were all broken making for a weird texture. Felt like I was ripped off. Never coming back to this place again.
This place used to have much better and nicer cooked food. Today I got their usual rice noodles, beef and broccoli and orange chicken- they were oily, salty I would say rather unappetizing. These dishes in the past used to be cooked with more care and attention. Very disappointing. I hope they read the comments and fix their cooking otherwise they will start loosing business.
I ordered food, paid $43.00 and tipped well. I ordered sweet and sour pork, bbq pork fried rice and fried won tons.. The sweet and sour pork was all fat, the fried Wong tons, were burnt, as you will see in the pictures. I called and asked for some money back, they said no and were rude and hung up on me!! This is unacceptable! And have been rude in the past.. Please don’t order from them as you will be very disappointed!! I wished i would have checked reviews before ordering as I see a picture someone posted and it had a cockroach in there food. Yuck! No more eating out for me..
