I want to thank Hard 8 for allowing my family to celebrate the engagement of my dad and lovely stepmother. Manager Rafael was very accommodating and really nice. Everything was great and the food is always amazing! We will be back each year on July 4th to celebrate this day. Thank you all for those who participated! Hard 8 is the best!!
Hannah helped with the catering, and did an amazing job. The food came right on time, and was set up fast and very presentable. They include all the utensils plates everything. I would highly recommend it if you are having a party for a large group of people Hard 8 knows how to do it! The brisket and turkey were very good, and plenty of sides too! The delivery went smoothly! And price wise, it is comparable to other restaurants that cater.
Best BBQ If you are a BBQ lover, you should try "Hard Eight Pit BBQ". The ambiance is just awesome, unlike the common restaurants, this one gives a feeling of old restaurants. The area is filled with the smoke and BBQ aroma, which is awesome. Food is really tasty and spicy. They are selling in pound, which is really good. I personally liked the beef brisket, onion ring and brush poppers. It's good to spend time with friends and family.
Visited while traveling for work, and stopped to eat at an off-peak time. Not many patrons there, but the food was fresh and the service was fantastic. The ordering process was a little awkward for me as a first-timer, but made sense after they explained it. I could say a lot of things about the food, but here's the summary; I ate so much I may have hurt myself.
If you’re searching for BBQ perfection, look no further. This place isn’t just a restaurant it’s a feast for the senses. From the moment you step in, the smoky aroma of slow-cooked meats fills the air, teasing your appetite and setting the stage for an unforgettable meal. The star of the show? The meat. Every bite is pure magic, tender, juicy, and packed with deep, smoky flavor. Whether it’s the melt-in-your-mouth brisket, the fall-off-the-bone ribs, or the perfectly charred pulled pork, each cut is a masterpiece of low-and-slow perfection. The sauces? Just the right balance of tangy, sweet, and spicy, complementing the meat without overpowering it.
A must go BBQ. The ordering experience is unique as it is necessary to go through the smoking area were the meat is prepared. The sirloin and briskets where just awesome. Atmosphere is unique and luckily I came a bit ahead of lunchtime. While on the exit there was a long queue starting from the parking lot and waiting to order.
Great quality and experience. Bask in the smoke when you enter. I wish they made that into a cologne. The smoker is right in front of you to pick your meats. We tried the brisket, chicken, sausage and ribs. I was a pretty big fan of the ribs and sausage. The brisket was ok and the chicken was above average. After picking your meats you pick your sides. I tried the bacon potato salad and the corn. I'd strongly recommend the corn. The rest of the group got some other sides, the mac and cheese seemed a good choice. Beans and drinks are in endless supply around the communal eating tables. Great atmosphere and team. There is seating indoors and out. No complaints.
Definitely best BBQ place in the area! Many times, we stopped by and always had a great time! Food is fresh and delicious! Moist brisket was great! Smoked chicken was so good! Also, ribs were delicious! Steak at this place is always my favorite! Backed potatoes, great choice! Also, if you like corn, it is fresh and tasty! Great Atmosphere!
The food is always good, I was a bit concerned about a delivery order, however, the quality and amounts are just the same as if you were dining in. Good job, 5 stars all the way. "If" there are any issues the team is more than willing to resolve a concern.
Once you pull up and smell that smoke you'll know your in the right place! Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. BBQ brisket and ribs are A1! There are even managers that come to your table and ask how things are which made you feel that you weren't at a BBQ joint but at a fine dining restaurant. Nice touch. Food and experience 10/10
Hard Eight BBQ catered our son's wedding rehearsal dinner and it was delicious! Hannah was a great contact person and answered all my questions promptly. She made me feel so comfortable that we had chosen the right caterer for this event. The serving staff was on time, kind, and very helpful at the dinner. We were having this dinner four hours from home so it was nice to be able to find a wonderful place that would set up, serve, and clean up for us.
Great service, super professional. Good food! It was a real pleasure to hold a dinner at your premises. Your staff was always willing to serve and to make you feel comfortable. Outstanding!
Just visited Hard 8 Pit BBQ for the first time the other night & it was delicious! The atmosphere was very smoky & fully decorated, with a friendly staff who are helpful & quick. The brisket was extremely tender & the other meats were amazing as well. I love baked potatoes and this one was large and perfectly cooked, plus you can pick your toppings in a buffet style line after picking the meats. There were SO many dessert options & I honestly wanted to try them all. We got a whiskey butter pie & pecan pie, which were both very tasty. If you’re looking for a very Texan BBQ experience in The Colony, I would definitely recommend Hard 8! & I will be returning to try everything I didn’t get to try this time around.
We had a great experience at Hard Eight today. The BBQ chicken was moist and had a good smokey flavor. The brisket was moist, tender, and full of flavor. Finally, the pork ribs were tender and delicious. The staff is amazingly accommodating polite and professional. We will be back soon
Always loved Hard 8 since I was a student at Tarleton based in Stephenville. Seeing them outside of their had me skeptical if they carried the same great quality and value. Pleasantly surprised with this location. Had the ribeye and a baked potato with their sweet tea, and let me tell you, partner, everything was perfect. That steak was tender with just the perfect rendering of fatty flavor, and the potato was loaded up just right (I tossed in so much butter and bacon bits). The staff was friendly, the pit line moved quick, and the whole place smelled like heaven on oak wood.
Hard Eight had been on our list for years, mostly because it was close enough to feel inevitable. Familiarity breeds procrastination. We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday night. No line. The pits were hot and the food was ready to be eaten, not admired. I ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, a brisket stuffed potato, and potato salad. My wife went with the stuffed potato, a jalapeño sausage sandwich, and a few slices of turkey. Ordering at Hard Eight feels more like an attraction than a restaurant. You line up, tell the pitmaster what you want, and pay by the pound. Once through, you load up on sides and sauces and build a tray that fits your idea of barbecue. The barbecue is solid and well made. Good smoke, good flavor, no gimmicks. The house sauce is served hot and it works. When the smokers are running the place can get smoky, but that is part of the experience.
We tried this for dinner recently and had a good experience. We have been a couple times for the BBQ and it’s delicious. A guy in our party recommended the ribeye special, so we tried that. For $36.95 you get a 16oz ribeye and 2 sides. They also have an 8oz ribeye and 1 side combo for $19.95. The ribeye came out sizzling with grilled onions and a nice slab of butter on top. It was cooked perfectly. I tried the mac and cheese and sweet potato fries for my sides. Both were great. We also tried the sausage. They have plenty of seating inside and the staff was friendly.
Perfect place to take out of towners who need a sample of Texas BBQ! The ordering process walks you through the smoking pit, they cut the meat on front of you, & them you pay by the pound for whatever you want. Brisket is how you judge a TX BBQ joint (in my humble opinion)- & the brisket was fantastic. I also had the smoked turkey, & it was also amazing. My wife had a brisket stuffed baked potato & several of the bacon-wrapped, stuffed chicken or shrimp jalapenos, & they were terrific as well. (No one beats Rosa's grilled jalapenos in my opinion ((somehow.. it doesn't really make sense to me)), but these were different, & still highly recommended. The only item that wasn't highly reviewed in my post tonight was the half-chicken. It came out dry somehow:/ That was too bad, but everything else was so good I plan to give them many more chances to score a 100%. Check out these massive smokers out front! This place really is the real deal.
This is not the normal boring experience. It was a little rough around the edges with open cooking areas for steaks and everything but the smoke smells delicious. Do you want to buy all the meat you see in front of you? Tell them what you want and they will cut it off for you. Weigh the meat and you are off to grab sides and drinks. Fried okra is made fresh and hot. Two kinds of barbecue sauce if you are in to that. Some places rely on sauce, some rely on flavor built in to the meat. The meat was tender in everything I tried including ribs and brisket but I think it needed sauce which is fine. The sauces were good and different than anything I have had in KC Missouri which is known for barbecue. We take pride in it and so it's fun to see what other areas have. Check em out!!!
Some pretty gosh darn good BBQ. Went here for mother’s day and it was pretty good. It was pretty cool to see the whole process in the front as we walked in. Brisket was good and the mac n cheese was great. I wasn’t the big fan of the ribs here but my dad did like it and he loved the sausages. Overall, this place is a great TX BBQ with an open environment full of seats in addition to great service being provided.
Everything you can ask for in a Texas BBQ joint. The bad thing about Hard Eight is deciding what to eat or how full you're willing to be when you inevitably have to leave and drive home smelling the sweet intoxicating aroma of a bbq pit. There's a small line when you walk in, but in this case it's a feature not a flaw. Trust me: you need at least five real minutes to figure out your "how much do I want to eat vs. how much can I realistically eat" decision. This is one of those cases where your eyes are definitely larger than your stomach; trust me. And trust me that you should be realistic and come back multiple times. Solid choice of meats, solid choices of sides, many, many choices for liquid refreshments… it has it all. Ambiance is exactly what you expect, want, and need in a bbq pit place. If you're looking for bbq… Hard Eight hits the spot.
It's absolutely the best BBQ I've eaten. We had pulled pork, sliced brisket, and smoked sausage with traditional sauce. Sides were the onion rings, sweet potato fries, and fried okra. The meat is perfectly smoked and juicy, dare I say succulent! The onion rings are my personal favorite, excellent batter and perfectly crispy, the fried okra is so good, breading is crisp, and last but not least, the sweet potato fries are amazing. I highly recommend Hard 8 BBQ any day, any time. The service was on point, with very friendly and helpful servers. I'd eat there every day if I could! Thank you for an amazing day after Christmas meal. I'll definitely be back!
Don’t be sticker shocked by your bill, real bbq isn’t cheap and the best I can say is at least this location is well worth the expense. The brisket is amazing, the sausage is also really good as well. The sides are also nicely portioned and the beans are especially delicious. They do offer a bar but I don’t believe they offered bar seating when we went but that would be a game changer for this place. Conveniently located in the colony which is a great area for tons of things to do. Overall a great Texas style bbq experience.
The best brisket place ever!! It's flavor is amazing. I like this place more than other because the brisket is well balanced, it isn't too full of pepper and spices that make it so heavy, but the flavor is great. All other food is amazing: sausages, turkey, pulled pork, Mac&Cheese. Great to go with your family or by your own.... my new brisket favorite place.
🏆 Best BBQ in Dallas, no competition!!!! This is by far the best BBQ food I've ever had. Everything from the brisket, sausage, beans, fries, coleslaw....everything was extremely delicious. This is the perfect place to bring out of town guests who want authentic bar b q food. It was so good I barely had enough time to snap a picture. Sooooooooo delicious! We also had leftovers for a couple of days
I got a sliced brisket sandwich and my wife ordered the pulled pork. We both thought they were great although the brisket was a tad bit dry but extra bbq sauce and all was good. The sides were all very good. We ordered take out and I will say that's a little complicated ... better signage would have helped ... hint: it's located on the southside of the building, opposite of the highway. The service was great and we enjoyed our food and will eat there again. I do recommend Hard Eight.
I just left hard 8 in the colony an had lunch a few of me an my colleagues and I had to leave a review because the food was so amazing. We all got ribeye steaks and in my 57 years I have never had a steak that good. The guy making the ribeyes name was Joe and he was full of personality and assured me an my buddies that it would be the best we had ever had an boy was he right. That man needs a raise!!! He told us he had been cooking for a long time and I believe him. If I ever open up a buisness where I need a cook, sorry hard 8 but I’m coming back an getting Joe to run my kitchen!
MUST GO! This is one of those places you really have to go an experience, because that’s what this place is, an experience! Walking through the front door past the smokers and pits is something else! I would suggest to do your research and check out the place/menu online before hand to avoid missing anything. It’s a little overwhelming when you’re there your first time or have a difficult time deciding. The staff is usually helpful, but it can get busy and they’re trying to keeping wait times low so they move you quickly through the line. The only con I have , is my mom ordered the sirloin and they don’t/didnt ask the temp preference. My mom is a RARE girl. So when they gave her med-well sirloin she was a little upset. I think, if we would’ve asked for the rarest sirloin they had, we probably would’ve gotten something more to her liking. But the employee should ask, IMO. The Indoor/outdoor seating is fun! And my mom loved the free beans
and a true Texas atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, the smell of the open pits sets the tone. The meats are smoked to perfection, especially the brisket and ribs — tender, flavorful, and full of that classic smoky taste. The sausage is excellent, and the sides complement the BBQ well without stealing the spotlight. The casual, rustic setup makes it a great spot for families, groups, or anyone looking to enjoy authentic BBQ without the fuss. Service is friendly and efficient, and the overall experience feels relaxed and welcoming. If you’re craving real Texas BBQ in North Texas, Hard Eight BBQ in The Colony is a must-visit. Consistently good food, great portions, and a true Texas vibe. Highly recommended.
We visited Hard Eight BBQ in The Colony with family just before their return flight, and it was absolutely worth the stop. The whole experience feels authentically Texas from the moment you walk in — the open pit, the aroma of slow-smoked meats, and the lively atmosphere set the tone perfectly. The meat selection was fantastic and truly lived up to the hype. Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection — exactly what you want from a classic Texas BBQ experience. The sides and sauces paired great with everything, and the team was warm, friendly, and patient, even with the crowd. For anyone visiting Texas, this is one of those must-try spots that really captures the spirit of the state. A great meal and a memorable experience before sending family off on their journey. Highly recommended!
The meat selections off the pit are plentiful, lots of choices to make. The brisket is moist and had a great flavor. The shrimp and chicken poppers also had a great combo of flavors. The sauce was excellent with the right amount of sweetness and a little kick to it. It all paired well with the jalapeno cream corn. It was quiet a tasty and filling meal.
You will HURT yourself at this delicious restaurant! Pace, pace, pace yourself. Beyond the meat, the sides options are endless and tasty. Pro tip: order meat in 1/4lb weights to make room for sides! The restaurant was huge but filled up fast on a Tuesday at 6pm 😳 Must stop! Plus, they have a full bar and Happy Hour!
Walking in felt like a full experience—the open air filled with BBQ smoke set the tone right away. The atmosphere is authentic and welcoming, with plenty of seating inside and out. As first-timers, we appreciated how helpful everyone was and loved seeing all the fresh food options up close. Everything felt genuine, and we’ll definitely be back! Food was top-notch.
This restaurant is amazing their food was very good I had the brisket which was juicy tender and flavorful. Lots of great options for sides. I thought the fries was excellent and so was the mac and cheese. There was also plenty of space for seating. I would definitely recommend this place.
Delicious Texas BBQ. This place definitely delivers on southern hospitality it honestly seems real like the hire genuinely happy people or I just have come on the best days. Top notch service and management will make things right on the rare occasion of anything being wrong. Overall all their meat offerings are great. I’m picky on bratwurst and theirs is full of flavor with good amount of heat and the ratio is on point for the jalapeño sausage! Seriously everything they serve is delicious barbecue. The Mac n Cheese is my favorite side so I’m bias against the other good options. Ample parking, awesome free smells :). This location is a must visit for any barbecue lover!
Was in town touring the AT&T stadium and this place was recommended by a friend and I’m so glad that we decided to come here. From the start it was a great experience picking out our food from the cooks and then on to picking the sides and desert. We got everything but the chicken and pulled pork and it was all very good. Recommends the ribeye, it was super juicy. If I’m ever in town again I will definitely be back.
Coming from the Midwest, I had to try this restaurant because I had heard so much about it. Honestly, the atmosphere was quite nice, though I was initially greeted by a strong presence of smokers, which surprisingly enhanced my appetite even more. I ordered a quarter pound of everything, which I highly recommend if you get the chance. The sausage and pulled brisket were standout items, and you definitely shouldn’t miss the frosted corn—it was a great addition to the meal. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent, and the prices were just right. I highly recommend this place!

The food is good, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is fun and lively.
It sure was an experience! Many people in line were taking pictures and gawking at the the food being cooked like tourist might at the sight of rare objects in a museum. The good thing is there’s not a very, long wait as you basically serve yourself somewhat cafeteria style. You can see the meats as they are cooked and pick up most sides yourself. So, a long line moves quickly. Then you seat yourself. Good thing we noticed the outdoor covered deck which wasn’t too crowded; some of our group claimed a long, wooden table with benches on both sides; and there was still plenty of tables and benches left. This is around 7:30 on a Saturday evening. Food was fresh and rated “pretty good” by all in our large party. The onion rings were delicious as was the brisket and chicken which I personally enjoyed. The view from the porch with big, wide open windows was amazing. See, the red trees outside the venue? I called the lone tree, a plain-old-red tree in Plano; later, I realized Hard Eight Pit is in Colony, TX not Plano.
A great place to get pit BBQ. You order by the pound from a variety of meats before heading inside. You can get a baked potato, sweet potatoes or corn on the cob as a side before heading in. There are tons more side options inside including potato salad, coleslaw, mac n cheese, fries, onion rings etc. Lots of dessert options. Cheesecake, various cobblers, oreo topped chocolate pudding. Tons and tons of seating. Staff is super friendly and helpful. A great option for lunch or dinner if you are craving some good BBQ.
I came here for a rehearsal dinner, which may have changed things from the normal experience. The meal was from a smorgasbord/buffet style. Everything was good, but not great. The brisket was a little dry. By no means was anything bad, but I wasn't wowed by anything either. It may be different if you order from the front, individually, but I've never done that. I'll have to come back and try it that way. Good, but not among the best local bbq places I've been.
I tried Hard Eight BBQ in The Colony, Texas for lunch today. This was my first time to try this restaurant, I have seen it a couple times when in the area but never when it was convenient to stop in. First impression was that it is set up well to provide great and consistent service. Upon entry you are greeted by an open warmer with all of the meat options that are able to be seen and ordered. Beyond the meat area breads, sides and condiments are in a serve yourself line prior to paying what you have on your tray. A centrally located drink station is beyond the cashier for convenience for first drink and refills. I had no pre planned meal and ordered what looked like I might like the most based on what I could easily see thinking that I would have leftovers if it was good enough. -Brisket: I selected half lean and half moist. The moist has more smoke flavor than the lean, both had a similar consistency with the lean being a little dryer. Both required sauce due to the lack of flavor. My portion had very little bark and a smoke ring was not found. -Pork ribs: I had a mix from the middle and end of a rack. Again the bark was not there, the outer crust was the consistency of jerky and was very thin. The middle was cooked well but without bark sauce was needed. -I skipped the sides and opted for sliced jalapeño, pickles and onion. These helped between bites to clean and reset. The prime location close to Grandscape will keep new customers flowing into this restaurant, I am content with this being my one visit as I make my rounds comparing BBQ options in Texas. #bbq #texasbbq #hardeightbbq #smokedbrisket #smokedporkribs
We visited Hard Eight Pit BBQ on a Sunday evening and although there was a bit of a line, it was worth the wait. The food was delicious and had fantastic flavors. The jalapeño sausage was very tasty, and the poppers were a hit with our group. I also really enjoyed the mac and cheese and jalapeno cream corn were. Overall, it was a fantastic meal, and I would definitely visit again.
Cons: Expected the brisket to fall apart and melt in my mouth. Unfortunately the meat was chewy and salty tasting and had to have sauce. To me, quality brisket doesn’t need sauce. Pros: Service was awesome and the atmosphere was entertaining and fun for the family. Loved the staff cooking the meats up front and letting you choose your selection.
this is a fun BBQ spot that is a but derivative, but does deliver. I agree, with other comments, get the steak and the cobbler. the pulled pork was stand out. smoked sausage was excellent, bacon wrapped shrimp unremarkable, Brisket and ribs were a bit dry, and I can't say I even bothered with the sides. the sauces were just ok. the service was kind, quick and attentive. I enjoyed the large airy space, casual vibe, and throw back cafeteria style set up that is typical of so many Texas bbq joints. the giant pits are noteworthy and it is clear the team works hard. there are a wealth of great options for BBQ in the Dallas area. While not the best by any stretch, it does not disappoint for Frisco. Hard Eight is of reasonable value, and fun experience. Skip the bar, focus on the steak. Banana pudding is always a win.
This was our first visit. We loved the Delicious brisket!! And we liked the traditional bbq sauce. Sweet potatoes were very good. Corn on the cob was bland and the beans were also very bland. These two items were next to tasteless. Disappointing. The seats are hardwood with no back support. Not comfortable!! We Really liked the vibe! But to get 5 stars they need to improve the tastes of the beans and corn and provide comfortable chairs for dining. Also they should offer better quality of bread. (Cheap store brought bread is not acceptable). Make homemade cornbread or something of better quality.
Hadn't had Hard 8 since going to the Coppell location years ago. The food was good but it's not better than a few other BBQ joints I frequent. The smoked bologna was really good, but the ribs had no flavor and dead skin from the membrane being left on. The jalapeno sausage was good & the brisket was tender and moist. Good sides & great service.
Hard Eight is an experience and that is the reason to go. The wait can get a bit long and can be very unpleasant in inclement weather especially on a hot Texas day. The food is good but not great however it is served right off the pit so it is typically hot and fresh. This is certainly a place that should be check off of everyone’s list. The seating is family style so expect to dine with strangers during busy times.
Travel the country eating Q, lol. This was good. My colleague visited before and recommended it. I very much enjoy the subtle smoke flavor on all the meats. I had the brisket, ribs, and sausage. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the ribs the most, but everything was very tasty. The highest form of flatery is a return visit with friends, lol 😆. I'll be back
My hotel was almost beside ti's place. The food was more like a 4.5. I ate here several times, I'll try to include all pictures I have. Brisket was moist a d very good The sausage was very good, I love sausage Their ribs are very good The steak I had on the visit was between good and very good. I expected more from it Love that corn
met my friend for lunch and we met up at Hard 8 BBQ, located in The Colony, TX. I have only been to one before approximately 3 yrs ago located in Coppell, TX. We were there for lunch and the parking lot was full and it was hopping mad inside the restaurant. The smell bbq filled the air. This place is neat, very clean and well organized. The meats on the grill looked really awesome, but the taste was lacking. Same experience at the Coppell location. The brisket was moist and juicy, the bread was dry, I did taste the chicken cause I got full. The onion rings were piping hot and very tasty well seasoned. My friend had the brisket and sausage also with onion rings and pinto beans. I will not even go back again to any Hard 8 BBQ they have disappointed me twice already there won't be a third. Staff here are super friendly, very welcoming, efficient and well organized. I love my BBQ and I always brag about Texas bbq, but I can't with Hard 8.
My first visit to this place. Gotta admit it’s a cool concept when ordering but smelling like smoke all day was not my favorite thing. Food was pretty good. Didn’t feel like the brisket had a ton of flavor but the sauce was delicious. Sausage was better than average and the turkey was great. I know prices are up so it felt a little expensive but not overwhelming high for the meal. We had brisket, sausage, turkey and a few sides. Portion of side for cost felt high as well. My wife enjoyed her baked potato. Would recommend and will visit a location again to try other things.
⸻ Had the chance to visit Hard Eight Pit BBQ and overall, it was a solid Texas-style BBQ experience. The food definitely delivered — flavorful, well-smoked meats with that authentic Southern feel. The brisket was tender, the ribs were packed with flavor, and the sides complemented the meal nicely. You can tell they take pride in the quality of the barbecue. The wait time was a bit on the longer side, so definitely be prepared for a bit of a line, especially during peak hours. As for the service, it was okay — nothing exceptional, but everyone was polite and got the job done. If you’re looking for some good Texas BBQ and don’t mind waiting a bit, Hard Eight Pit BBQ is worth a visit.
Authentic Texas BBQ experience. The smoky entrance immediately transports you. Staff is efficient and organized, contributing to a clean, vibrant atmosphere. Complimentary beans are a nice touch. The standout? The corn cream lol(For me)– genuinely exceptional, a must-try. *Brisket was a little dry for me so 4 stars on food.
First time here and the BBQ pits were impressive. So was the spacious seating and the wonderful Warm staff. The ambience is great for a relaxed evening meal. The food was good but has a lot of room for being much better. The brisket was tender but lacked seasoning and the pulled Pork was way too hard. On the other hand, the Rib Eye steak was juicy as it was freshly cooked and so were Ribs. Also, I hate when all the meat is put onto the same tray mixing all the flavours.
Place was great to look at. Big but though the food really needs improvement. Dickies bbq tastes better. They need to change the type of wood for smoking. The beans need the pepper and salt ratio changed. The okra was to salty. I had to take a bite of okra then beans to even out the salt in my mouth. Glad I tried it. But won't be back.
Underwhelming for the price. The ribs lacked flavor, they were moist but realistically just salted meat. Sweet potato fries tasted undercooked, The cream corn is nothing special I wouldn't waste your money buying it. The jalapeno sausage was good, the voice brisket was actually moist and tasted fine. Overall I would not return, I don't think it's worth the money. The staff is friendly but it's like a Rudy's. Although they do give you free pinto beans if you dine in. They do however have a five-star sink system in their bathrooms.
The food was good but a little bland and the prices were a bit high. Portions we tiny for coleslaw and potato salad. French fries were amazing. Baked potatoes were bland tasting. The wait staff coming around to pickup your trays were super friendly and did a great job. The seats were very uncomfortable just a hard piece of wood and straight so I could not get comfortable sitting I am 6'1.
I went to Hard 8 in the Colony for the first time. I ordered 1/2lb of ribs, pepper popper with Mac n cheese. I service was great. I took my order to go. The ribs were tough & dry. Maybe brisket is their specialty. Disappointed to say the least.
Order takeout ribs are dry pulled pork was great. All the sides were great. Gonna try a few more times before I give a final decision on this place. Definitely wanna try the ribeye steak cooked to order.
Do not let these people lie to you yall please. If you’re a really bbq lover, don’t let this place assault your tastebuds. It’s extremely mid for the good review it has, which has led me to writing a review when I never do. I can’t let them lie to you. It’s dry and you have to chew the ribs off the bone. The brisket isn’t flavorful, and the steak was so fatty and greasy, we couldn’t even finish it. Also, the sides weren’t salted hardly. Again no flavor and save your coin
We recently checked out Heart 8 Barbecue in The Colony, and it was a bit of a mixed bag for us. The sausage was a standout with a perfect crisp and great flavor – we’d definitely order that again. The ribs were fantastic, too. The coleslaw was a nice touch and definitely worth a mention. However, the brisket left us a little disappointed – it was dry, under-smoked, and needed more flavor, even after we tried adding some salt. The pulled pork had an odd taste that didn’t quite hit the mark for us. The sides didn’t quite match up to the main dishes. The corn seemed overcooked and lacked flavor, and the mac and cheese reminded us of a fast-food version. The onion rings had potential, but they were pretty soggy by the time we got to them. On the bright side, the service was top-notch – the staff checked in on us multiple times and made sure we were comfortable. The atmosphere was exactly what you’d hope for – rustic, fun, and very barbecue-esque. We also noticed how clean everything was – it’s clear they take pride in their place. Overall, we’d recommend trying the ribs, sausage, and coleslaw if you visit. We’re hoping they can fine-tune the other dishes!
I always hate writing bad reviews, but I feel like it’s important for people to know . We were there on 7 January. We used to frequent this location a lot, but have since moved further north so we don’t go as often. I was craving it so we made the trip down to get takeout and was surprised that you don’t get an option of bread and you have to pay for all of the extra fixings. We had brisket where we got one tiny little bit of barbecue sauce and sirloin where we got one tiny bit of barbecue sauce and a whole pound of turkey where we were not even offered sauce. So you basically have to pay for any fixings that means any jalapeños, any onions any pickles, and sauce. Bread wasn’t even offered to buy. Was very surprised and honestly the turkey was really really dry so I’m kind of disappointed. Hard Eight has been our go to for good barbecue. I’m rethinking sorry!
Meeeeh! This joint needs a tune up. It just get progressively worse every time I go here. The meat is $26 per pound. The ribs tasted like jerky. The sliced beef was greasy not juicy. The rest was OK. $55 for two people. The iced tea is good however. Stopped and got a jug of Pepto Bismal to take shots of for the next two days. Made some smoked toilet paper when I got home.
Service was great. Folks were friendly and helpful. And the sweet tea was pretty solid. We've been here before, and food was decent. But the food was pretty bad today. We ordered prime rib, brisket, pork ribs, and shrimp poppers. All the meat was dry and the food was barely seasoned. Even the sweet potato fries were plain. There's better options not that far away. We won't be coming back.
We came here to meet up with friends who were visiting from out of state. We were so embarrassed because they wanted some real Texas BBQ. This was our first time here (We usually only go to Hutchins, but that was too far for them). Big mistake. We ordered brisket and turkey, a baked potato, and a few sides. The sides are pretty small, and add up if you have multiple people who want different sides. They tasted fine, nothing special. The turkey was pretty good, tender enough, with good flavor. The brisket was the biggest disappointment. It was dry, there was no seasoning on it. You could taste smoke, but nothing else, no meat flavor or fat. The service was Ok, but it was difficult to understand much of the staff, I think due to the excessive noise inside and their accents. I felt bad that they had to say everything three times. There was not enough seating inside, se we sat in the patio area and it was even louder out there. This was definitely not worth the $80 spent for 3 people. We enjoyed seeing our friends, but had to apologize for the inferior food and poor ambiance for spending time together and catching up. We really just should have ordered some Hutchins to go and met them at a park.
I normally eat at the restaurant in Coppell. But I was on that side of town and my wife suggested we go. The ribs and chicken poppers were very dry. We also bought brisket, sausage and chicken. The brisket and potato was ok. I spent $118, I will stick with the Coppell location. So much for leftovers. Disappointed customer. The beans didn't have the same flavor as Coppell.
I recently visited Hard Eight BBQ and the food absolutely delivered. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The sides were solid, and overall the quality of the food is what keeps people coming back. That said, the service flow really needs work. Waiting in a long line to pay — only to then wait even longer for a sanity be assembled — doesn’t make much sense. It would be far more efficient to have orders packaged while guests are in line and ready at the payment counter. The current setup creates unnecessary delays and takes away from what should be a smooth experience. Great BBQ, but the service process could definitely use some rethinking!
We ordered a full rack of ribs, a loaded baked potato, 1 fountain drink, and 3 bottled sodas. The total was $84, and in my opinion it is way too much. As soon as we received the tray of meat we wanted to go somewhere else because it looked dry and flavorless. We thought we should give it a try anyways and proceeded to sit down. Our assumptions were correct, the ribs were extremely dry, no flavor, but somewhat tender so that was a plus. I had to dip every bite in bbq sauce. The flavor of the brisket barely had any smoke flavor, and it was tender as well, but again extremely bland. The sides did not look appetizing so we skipped on those. I had high hopes since I heard so many good things, but I would never come back. One thing I did enjoy was the service. Everyone was very kind and attentive.
I was looking for some good BBQ and someone recommend this place. For the first time , I went and I got small amount of Rib, Brisket , sausage and pie, okra and everything was 50$ for the small amount I had and not season at all to me. Super dissatisfied because everything is based off of weight and what I had was not 50$ worth. I recommend go elsewhere
Smoked brisket is the benchmark I use to judge any BBQ restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience at Hard Eight BBQ was very disappointing. While waiting in line, I watched the pit worker prepare brisket for service. He pulled a brisket out of foil, which immediately concerned me. Cooking brisket tightly wrapped in foil often results in a texture closer to steamed or boiled meat rather than properly smoked barbecue. To make matters worse, he used his knife to scrape off much of the bark from the top before slicing. The brisket I was served had no visible smoke ring, no well-developed bark, and the texture was soft and shreddy rather than holding a clean slice. There was very little smoke flavor, and what little bark remained was thin and soggy, which is common when brisket is heavily foiled during cooking. As someone who judges BBQ primarily by the quality of the brisket, this was extremely disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Hard Eight BBQ.
Worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in the colony! I arrive to pick up my food and the lady tells me to stand behind counter and asked me for my name and order which I gave. After waiting another 20 minutes another young lady tells me to come around counter and then proceeds to asking the same information. After another 25 minutes another young lady comes and ask me my name and order once again. Then finally the first young lady comes back and is like I’m sorry your sirloin isn’t ready would you like to continue to wait or maybe try and order something else? I proceeded to just ask for refund and the manger comes back and like do you have your card swipes it and says you should have your funds back in the next 5-10 days. Whatever happen to customer service maybe check on the person you had waiting for hours or explain your refund process! Oh and there were only two other customers whom also were having the same experience at the Togo area!
Very underwhelming. Brisket has no flavor but was cooked well. Turkey was completely dry and flavorless. The sausage was ok but nothing to rave about. Pulled pork was terrible. Too many other great BBQ options to return.
MAN. I really cannot believe I’m writing this review but this was absolutely ridiculous. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS. My father and I each got a very small portion of brisket and two ribs, nothing else, and the total was SIXTY THREE DOLLARS. That is insane. On top of that, drinks were $3 each. Hard Eight NEVER used to be this expensive. To add insult to injury, the brisket was DRY. Dry, overpriced Texas barbecue is unacceptable. There are multiple other BBQ places around that will give you way more barbecue for less money and better quality. We are in TEXAS for crying out loud. I will never come back here. This was beyond disappointing.
The food wasn't worth the price and the picnic style tables are so close together its a safety hazard. Do NOT go in to dine if you have mobility issues, it's not a mobility friendly environment. There are plenty of other places with better food and that aren't a safety risk.
