Big kudos to Northstar and Zephyr Lodge! You're leading the way in reducing single-use plastic. I was so impressed to see that Zephyr Lodge has eliminated them. It's a fantastic example of how ski resorts can make a difference in protecting our precious mountain ecosystems. This makes me even happier to bring my family to Northstar.
Great view! Wonderful drinks - bloody mary is insanely good! Lots of space and really few people here even during lunchtime. I like this place much better than the middle mountain lounge.
Beautiful lodge with good food and awesome views! I will definitely go eat my lunch here more often. The outdoor patio is enclosed with plexiglass, so it doesn’t block the beautiful views, but also keeps patrons warm enough to eat outside and enjoy the snow.
One of the better mountain top lodges I've been to. Clean, good food, fast service, spacious, amazing view and outdoor dining. Ordering system or use of app just makes sense.
Large, open indoor dining space, but doesn't feel as big as it is. Great view from large outdoor deck. Food very good, especially for a ski area. A little expensive. My go to place at Northstar.
Spectacular views , a great place for a bite to eat. With excellent choices of food inside or outside patio bring your own.
Stopped in to has a quick self packed lunch - complimentary waters were an unexpected plus. Great views and access to the slopes for meeting up with friends.
Nice lodge and good location to meet on the mountain. Seating can be difficult around noon so go early or eat later. The food is really good here and there’s a separate bar on the left. The chili is delicious and garlic fries are a must! My friend raves about their Bloody Mary.
Expensive, but offers a discount for season pass holders. The reservation system and advanced food ordering system is excellent. Make sure you have proof of vaccination to sit inside. The food is reasonable fast food. The location is excellent.
They have food service down to a science up there! You order with your phone and screens tell you once your food is ready! Super easy and the brisket pesto sandwich was delicious!!😋

Mountain top setting just waiting for snow blessings. Can't wait to make some turns and relax on the deck overlooking paradise

After a full morning on the slopes there's nothing better than a hot Zephyr burger. The food is delicious, but the place is usually packed full from 12-1:30 on weekends. It's very expensive as well.
Came here on a Sunday for lunch after doing some runs, and was really glad to see they made some improvements from last season. Unlike last season, there are no more reservations. Downside is needing to hunt for a table again, but the upside is not feeling rushed. Like last season, ordering food is now through either your phone or a kiosk. Each table has a QR code for bringing up the site to order from. This process was actually pretty nice, and there are large screens that show the status of different orders. No more having to wait in line while someone tries to decide what they want to eat. Once your order is ready, you can go to the food counter and pick up your order. The food is so much better than last season, and reminds me more of what it was like before the pandemic started. Lots of options now, including some interesting ones. We got the brisket grilled cheese, beef chili, and some fries, and were happy with everything. The bar was also open again, and we enjoyed an Irish coffee and a dirty snowman (spiked hot chocolate). I was really happy we decided to stop in despite being disappointed last season. Great to see the food ordering system back again. Would come back again next time we're at Northstar!
Must show proof of vaccination to enter (except to use restroom - mask required), and food is extremely expensive (but was good). Otherwise, the view is gorgeous and the establishment is very clean and spacious. If you're not vaccinated, you must order on the deck and eat outside.
They allow you to order with your phone or via a kiosk, and pick up when it's ready. So there is no line to order the food. That saves a lot of your precious ski time.
The lodge itself is nice. The decor is rustic and the inside looks like a log cabin. There is a cafeteria style restaurant with a few different types of food. I think there is a bar too. It's on the resort so you do pay that premium, but the food wasn't bad.
We stopped up for lunch on a Monday. Not too busy and so was quite comfortable. I was able to get a gluten free bun on my burger, which hit the spot. Nice views and nice restrooms too.
Like most ski resorts the food is a little spendy. I had the pizza slices and would have given 5 stars but they were a little dry, hardly any sauce. The women's restroom was very nice and clean. Would return again.
Good place tho have a lunch during the skiing. Unfortunately it is pretty hard to find a place to sit in the lunch time. But anyway quite a good burgers.
This is a very nice lodge, beautiful views and a large outdoor deck for nice weather. Inside is a nice bar and a food court with asian, American , and pizza. The prices are what you would expect for a ski resort lodge. The food prices are moderate but the alcohol is definitely on the high end for cost. Overall very nice place to stop in for a hot chocolate or a burger.
Updated 4/2/23: what happened? So bad now. Only menu options are ramen and soup. It took 30 minutes to get two bowls of ramen. Luke warm and half sized portions with little meat. It looks like only 4 staff for the entire restaurant. So disappointing. Previous review: Zephyr is my favorite eating spot on Northstar. Of course it's over priced, since it's in the middle of a ski resort. Food is some of the best at ski resorts (Vail wins that I think). Hamburger with bacon, onion rings, and blue cheese was tasty. Overall I recommend the noodle bowl (not pictured).
Fantastic views from the lodge. The food is very pricey, but certainly yummy and exactly what you need during a long day of skiing. Zephyr Lodge is always crowded so if you find a table, do not hesitate to claim it!

This place serves healthy and unhealthy dishes, and does the trick of filling you for another few hours of skiing. This place isn't fine dining, but it tastes good enough for a quick lunch.
Great views, less crowded than mid mountain, and the order-from-your-table system is brilliant—every lodge at every resort should adopt it. Food was fine, normal lodge food quality.
I long for the days before COVID. They had such a great option of dining choices. They've removed the salad bar which I think everybody really liked. Food is made to order. However it's not piping hot. (The noodle bowl) They could work on that. The lodge in good shape, they keep it clean. The staff is friendly and professional. I just wish they had other options like they did years ago.

As would be expected from a resort, food was Ok not great. (chili, pizza, burgers, chicken tenders, etc.) Prices were outrageous, we had two small baskets of chicken tenders, 1teriyaki chicken rice bowl w/veggies, a zephyr burger, and a Gatorade and our bill was $85. I was sticker shocked. You are a captured audience, so be prepared too spend $$$$ or brown bag it. (Staff was very helpful though)
The prices are outrageous for what you get. I'm pretty sure I got ripped off. I got 2 kids bowls with rice and beef and the lady gave me cookies and Apple sauce. It was supposed to come with all this for 13 and I was charged 34! Pretty unreal for what we got...
The food was so overpriced. They had $8.75 for a small basket of fries, and $21.50 for 4 chicken tenders and a handful of fries. I felt like I was getting ripped off. It was crowded and loud. The staff were friendly though. The food isn’t bad, but it’s just expensive. You can also get a discount if you are a pass holder. I suggest bringing food from home and using this as a indoor sitting area.
Large lodge where skiers convene for a lunch break or drink. You order by scanning the QR code at each table and pay via phone app. When your order is ready, your number lights up on a digital monitor. You pick up at the window. Food is basically fast food with very limited selections. If you're a season pass holder, you can get 20% off your order. Bathroom is kept very clean. They have outdoor seating. The lodge closes at 3:00 pm.
Amazing views, originally this was a Five Star experience. They used to have great food and excellent customer service. However, I went there today (in January 2023), and was disappointed. Poor customer service. Not the typical Northstar experience I have had since 1972. Ever since COVID, the amount of employees available to assist and the selection of food has been really reduced. Northstar California…. Please bring back a more service oriented experience at the Zephyr Lodge. I paid almost $30 for a hamburger and French fries. No drink. Not a great experience. I expect better from you.
Textbook example of “captive market”. Extremely overpriced, OK food, but your only other choice is to bring your own food. The view outside the window is 5 starts. And it is less crowded than the lodge (you still have to fight/beg for tables during rush hours).
Prices here are expensive as expected for a ski resort that includes the Ritz Carlton. Ordered the Zephyr burger with a side of Z Gilroy Garlic Tots. The burger was middle of the road, not bad, nothing spectacular, and costed $17, the Garlic Tots were a sore disappointment, whoever made that batch forgot the garlic, so it was just tots with bacon bits that sunk to the bottom of the paper cone. Under normal circumstances I'd just say whatever and move on with my life, but for $8 for a handful of tots I personally think the tots should at minimum include all ingredients listed on the menu! Comfortable seats, and adequate number of seats so we were able to easily get a table. All in all an ok experience, not really holding my breath for them to lower prices based on my review.
Modern style building with large windows, high ceilings and an extremely large inside seating area with large rectangular tables and many 4-top and 2-top tables. Usually it’s easy to find inside seating here. There are also outside tables with a view down the mountain, but it’s usually too windy out there. Food here is definitely mediocre. Very basic fast food fare like hamburger, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fries, soup, chili. All food sampled was not good, and clearly cooked far before it was served. Ordering is by kiosk or mobile device. That was very efficient.

When zephyrs opened it was great. Now service is awful. Cold canned chile, frozen pork bun (middle). Place is a sad joke. It exemplifies everything broken with automated purchasing. No accountability. No reason to give good service. Just an upside money grab for the ski resort
Ridiculously slow line at the bar. 20 minutes for 2 beers. The bartender would take someone's order, put out the empty plastic cups on the bar, then disappear into the back for minutes at a time. There were easily a dozen people in line and he was chatting with customers instead of serving drinks.
Price is same as always, if not a little more, but portions are halved. Soups and bowls taste like airplane food. Everything tastes microwaved. This used to be a place with good food. What happened?
Wish I couldn’t even give this place a star. took about 1 hour and when we finally were ready the fires and chicken were out. They let people order and gave them fries when they orderd after us. drinks are terrible. Most packed lodge of all time. Worst lodge on the mountian. If you’re on the mountain, avoid this lodge!
Have eaten the overpriced, poorly cooked ramen and rice dishes here with the kids a couple of times. The epic views are destroyed by the worst ramen you'll ever have.
45 minute wait for a bad sandwich.
Poor experience here. Covid has heavily impacted not only their ability but what seems like willingness to provide an amazing experience. Our food was served cold and ultimately was overpriced experience. It used to not be this way! My wife and I loved going there many years ago, but times have changed unfortunately.
I waited 40 min for a noodle bowl, just to learn that most of the ingredients were missing. The staff was so overwhelmed, they were leaving every 2 min to get additional ingredients in the kitchen and something we're not even coming back. What happened to the previous system with the QR code and app? This system was so easy and smooth, at least we were waiting for food at the table not standing in line!
They did exact example how they shouldn't implement technology! They got rid off cashiers. Fine! But they but lasy food preparer in the line and! Now ordering in a fancy app.... you have to wait your food ... forever!!

There's nothing right with this place. I know it's a ski resort, but for 30% more money you get half the portion of a regular restaurant. It would be fine if the food was good but wow. I've had canned chilli better than what I got. Wasn't even hot. Bread was stale. Cookie was crumbling dry. Best part about this place is the free water.
This use to be the best place on the mountain for food and drinks. Menu has been severely cut as well as the quality and portions, it's not nearly worth the cost. I gave service more stars, the bar is still good and bar tenders can make a good drink. Don't bother getting food here you'll be extremely disappointed! Get it together Vail!
Bring back the Mobile ordering please. The service is absolutely terrible. They have one person who is trying to serve all of the stations. Most of the food is already cold as it's been sat there waiting because apparently they value the kitchen staff time more than the customer time. Then once you have your cold food, you have to line up again for a register of which there were only two open, and it took forever to ring up the items on the tray. Seriously what was wrong with the old system? Order what you want from the comfort of your table, get a text message when the order is ready, walk to collect, done.
