My wife and I enjoyed the charm and nostalgic ambiance of Willful Wine at the Grant House, especially with its unique location inside historical 1850's era building on Officer's Row at Fort Vancouver. The hostess was very welcoming. Staff was very friendly and helpful with our wine selection. My wife and I ordered their sharable charcuterie board, a house salad, and wine as a mid-afternoon refreshment after attending a historical presentation at the Visitor's Center. Everything was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised to have beautiful live piano music serenade us both as we enjoyed sampling their wines and cheeses. Willful Wine has a good selection of pinot noirs, red blends, and other wines served by the flight, glass, or bottle. They also offer classic signature cocktails. As a scratch kitchen, there is limited selection. We look forward to returning to try other menu items.

Went here on a whim with a friend as we were on a walk and had the most amazing time. They are dog friendly, and the staff was extremely welcoming. We even got a chance to meet the owner, and she is delightful 😊 must try out their wines and the arancini!

Our visit today made us feel like we were on vacation, but we were only minutes from home. What a great idea to combine this wonderful winery with a fantastic menu in a beautifully decorated space within a historic home in such a gorgeous setting. After hearing glowing reviews on social media, we decided to stop by today, and it was such a magical visit: sitting on the wraparound porch of the Grant House surrounded by beautiful gardens, trees, historic buildings and a gorgeous view of Council Crest and the West hills, sipping flights of truly amazing wines and munching on delicious nibbles... it's hard to imagine a better way to spend the day. I wish we hadn't eaten before we came, because the menu looked incredible. The wines were incredible on their own, though (we enjoyed an order of fresh bread and olive oil while we drank the wine). Now that I know how good it is, I'm looking forward to coming back soon and exploring what the kitchen has to offer...preferably on one of their live jazz evenings! I feel really lucky to have this place so near.

Amazing Bistro Cafe restaurant at the old Ulysses S. Grant's House across the street from the Fort Vancouver parade field with a wrap around patio deck that overlooks the parade field. Amazing atmosphere and very high quality creative food. They also provide a 10% military discount, having seating inside and outside, have a handicap assistance parking and ramp in the back of the building, and even have a single snack menu item for dogs because that's a great area to walk ones dogs and enjoy a bit of living history!

Everything we had was excellent. The patio is my favorite in all of Vancouver. The red sampler was fantastic. Their food was absolutely perfect. Pairs well with their reds and whites. Love this place.

Salmon Salad & Great Wine at Willful Wine Bar Located within the historic charm of the Grant House on Officer’s Row in Vancouver, Washington, Willful Wine Bar is cozy spot for wine lovers. It’s a beautifully restored 19th-century house. It feels like stepping back in time. The wine selection is the star here, particularly their pinot noir, a staple of the Willful brand. We love a woman winemaker, Pam Walden. Whether you’re a seasoned wine connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a relaxing flight, the staff’s knowledge and enthusiasm will be on point. The menu also includes small bites that perfectly complement the wines, such as local cheeses, charcuterie, and other nibbles. We had the mezze platter which was delicious and perfect size. I had one of their salads and added salmon! Fresh and delicious. I love a wine lunch!

The eateries come and go over the years at The Grant House. The current one is Willful Wine. I always enjoy stepping out of the hustle and bustle into a the slower paced vibe. Willful has wine (of course), some spirits and cocktails. There's nothing quite like this anywhere else in the area. It's great for place to go to switch things up. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌🏼 -VanPort Insider

Such a quaint, lovely experience right in the middle of a historic area. My group ordered a bunch of plates to share (large charcuterie, lamb meatballs, duck confit, caesar salad) and a couple wine tasting flights. And everything was delicious!! The bread they stock up on is from Ken's Artisan Bakery and my group was addicted to using it to mop up all the extra sauce. Keep in mind that you're sitting in a house that was actually someone's home. There's a few different rooms you can sit in, each with its own unique vintage feel. This is great for bringing friends and family who want a relaxed wine and food experience with a historic charm. I also hear they host afternoon teas sometime that I'm interested in checking out one day!

I went to holiday afternoon tea event and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious and decant it was. Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Food, tea and sandwiches were delicious and filling. I would highly recommend coming to any of their events.

A great place to visit! Officers Row is a must see if you’re in the Vancouver WA area. This is a great place to stop and have a drink! They do have a new menu which is nice. Gotta try this place they have a little for everyone. Including some gluten free options. In a nice day sit out on the deck it’s great! Also the chairs are crazy comfortable for a metal deck chair.

The food is elevated and delicious. Flavors match wines exceptionally well. Awesome spot for visitors from out of town, cool history and amazing tastes! Don't miss Willful.

What a fabulous find in the heart of Officers Row in Vancouver. We were able to sit on the porch and enjoy the moments. We had the great shrimp and grits, one of my favorites and hard to find this far from the southern kitchens. Thank you Willful Wine!

A must do if you’re down in Vancouver! The wine is spectacular, the service was fantastic and informational, and the food is a hidden gem. Really looking forward to a new extended menu. Do yourself a favor and get a flight!

We came from downtown Portland to have a special anniversary wine tasting and will definitely return! Beautiful setting on the edge of a historic national park, excellent wine and cheese. The evening we were there, they had a piano player who was wonderful. An enchanting evening!

This is a fantastic venue. The historic building partners perfectly with the wine bar. Owner-Winemaker Pam is as charming as the space, and the food and beverage are top tier. Do yourself a favor and grab a glass of wine and dinner on the porch. We love it here!

We had a wonderful valentines dinner at the Wilful Wine. The food was delicious, and the wine pairing was a perfect compliment. The Grant House is always a lovely backdrop. If you haven’t been here yet, don’t sleep on the gem. The chef is doing some great things!!!

What an exceptional restaurant. I cannot express how absolutely wonderful my family’s dining experience was. From the ambience of this beautiful setting to the delicious food, I am already planning my trip back with friends. Our waiter, Shawn, was delightful, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food served. He was charming and the food lived up to his detailed descriptions. Everyone in my party ordered a different meal and everyone left full and content with their choice. Our only regret was being too full to eat dessert, but that in itself is reason enough for us to come back. If you’re looking for a relaxing dining experience on this side of the river, with exceptional food and great people, come here. You won’t regret it.

Beautiful little wineshop and restaurant in a historic military fort. Lovely folk (including Pam the owner), and an excellent selection of wines. Definitely try the Red Jezebel and pinot blanc.

Shelley, our server, made our dining experience at The Grant House truly exceptional! Her warm hospitality and attentiveness made us feel right at home. The food was simply delicious. We started with the refreshing hibiscus/raspberry non-alcoholic beverage, a perfect complement to the summer. The grilled cheese and Arancini were both a hit, and the house salad was a fresh and flavorful start to the meal. Dining on the patio, surrounded by the historic ambiance of The Grant House, made the day even more special. The atmosphere was charming and inviting, a perfect setting for a memorable meal. Overall, I highly recommend The Grant House for a delightful culinary experience steeped in history. Be sure to ask for Shelley – you won't be disappointed!

I was so impressed with this place and our experience! Apparently the chef is new, so we were able to try out a few new specials-the braised short rib and bolognese gnocchi. Both were absolutely amazing! Our waitress was able to recommend two wines that went perfectly with our meal. My husband had a wonderful Father’s day meal and we will definitely be back!

This place deserves to be busier. The food is fresh and very well prepared, with an excellent presentation. Although it seemed they may have been a bit understaffed, the service was still very good. Relaxed atmosphere, but this venue would be splendid for a smaller, more formal occasion as well. Vegans and vegetarians will find something on the menu to at least tide them over to the next meal. A tad on the expensive side, but considering the quality of the food, it is money well spent - especially for the gentleman wanting to take his date to someplace just a bit different with a very historic setting thrown in for good measure.

Absolutely love the beauty of the nostalgic atmosphere, location and history of the building! Lunch was delicious (citrus salad with salmon). The salmon was perfectly cooked, not one bit dry. Staff was very friendly. I'm looking forward to returning!

We hosted my daughters baby shower here this past weekend (2.10/24). It was absolutely perfect. The food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and the guests raved about the location. Pam was very easy to work with. I highly recommend!

What an amazing experience! Pam and her staff couldn't have been kinder. Delicious and reasonably priced wines and a fantastic food menu to pair it with. The setting is absolutely gorgeous as well. Did i mention they have some of the best live music in the Pacific Northwest as well? A monthly concert series, incredible wine, friendly and accommodating staff and fantastic food, all set in a relaxing and beautiful backdrop. I feel like i'm sitting somewhere in Southern France sipping a world class cabernet. Willful Wine IS THE PLACE! Love it!

Absolutely amazing space, and wines are fantastic! This is my new go to for a good dinner with the hubs.

We just recently had my dad's celebration of life in a private room at Willful Wine. Pam was very helpful, extremely responsive, and so nice throughout the whole process. The appetizers turned out great and we had plenty of food for our group of 40 ish people at a reasonable price. The service was lovely. We were able to decorate as we pleased and they even had a TV to play a sideshow or his pictures. We would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking to do an event.

A great experience. Food is very good. The owner very friendly and visits with the guests. All the wines are from our vineyards. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong. Enjoying a meal there. Prices ran between 20 to $40 a meal.

We will give you a try some other time. Booked 5 course valentines dinner. Put card on file to do so. We have a 3 mo. Old and although it is not noted anywhere of an age limit or suggestion I figured I would verify that it was ok to bring him. I was looking forward to taking my wife out and having a special dinner. Unfortunately they suggested not although I can understand their concern and that not everyone may be considerate enough to leave if a young child makes a scene I do recommend noting this so others can be aware when they make reservations.

Willful Wine at The Grant House ended up giving us one of the sweetest date nights we've had in a long time and we didn't even order wine. The Grant House is the oldest residence on Officers Row, originally built in the mid-1800s as part of the Fort Vancouver military community. You can feel that history the moment you walk in! The tall windows, the creaking wood floors, the way the rooms still hold that old-world dignity. The house was originally built with logs but then replaced. But from the looks of it some was preserved from the inside, which you can get a sneak peek when walking out of the bathroom and back into the dining space. For food, I had their cider, my fiancé chose a zero-proof drink, and both were delicious. My cider was bright, fruity and crisp, and his drink tasted thoughtfully layered, not sugary or flat. For dinner, we ordered the Garlic Caesar Salad, Butternut squash tagliatelle and the Seared pork chop, and they all felt like autumn served on a plate. The pasta was velvety and comforting, and the pork chop had that perfect balance of sear and tenderness, a dish that makes you pause mid-conversation just to appreciate it. But what truly made the night unforgettable was Pam. She was an absolute delight, warm, present, and a talented host beyond measure. She played soft, romantic jazz piano through the evening, and at one point, my fiancé and I ended up sharing a slow, quiet dance right there in the dining room. The Grant House setting adds to the charm historic, softly lit, and easy to settle into. Pam made us feel completely taken care of from start to finish. So excited to come back for the holiday dinner.

A hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in an historic building on Officers Row. Intimate and effortlessly elegant, with excellent seasonal dishes (our scallops with creamy polenta and garlic greens were outstanding), wine almost exclusively from their own vineyard (with a few exceptions by the bottle, such as champagne), and a full bar. Lunch and dinner service available. Having their own winery means all bottles are available by the glass, an excellent way to find just the right wine for your meal. Service was warm and attentive. Shawna and Emily will take good care of you. If you're fortunate you may also hear Pam, owner and winemaker, tickle the ivories on the baby grand piano in the bar. Gentlemen, take note: this is the stuff of date night magic. Selfishly, we wanted to keep this place our little secret - though it's no doubt already well known to more discerning diners - to ensure we can always have "our table" by the piano! Yet this unique place in Vancouver deserves to be widely known and cherished. We'll certainly be back. Highly recommended.

Absolutely wonderful place. I came by myself and had never been here before. The service was wonderful. The food is amazing. Try the espresso martini. The owner game me a tour. I may rent their event space for my birthday. Highly recommend!

I had my wedding here - and I cannot express enough how amazing the staff is here. the food is great, the wine is awesome and the just over all I am so glad I got married there. Pam and her team are awesome.

Absolutely enjoyed our wine tasting on the front porch of this historic property overlooking an expansive front lawn and field. We sampled the flight featuring an Oregon style Chardonnay and Rose; added a 2 oz pour of their "Bubbles" which is lovely and dry. Although the Charcuterie Board is sparse it has some tasty treats such as cherries in a balsamic reduction.

We’ve been here three times so far and love the rich historical setting and all the beautiful, leafy, grassy views from the patio. The bottles of wine have whimsical, pretty label illustrations and would make lovely gifts. The chocolate cheesecake is absolutely fantastic, and that’s saying a lot because I try a fair amount of chocolate desserts. :) I also really like the two meats on the charcuterie board, and the salads look elevated and delicious as servers walk past us but we haven’t tried them yet. All our servers have been kind, friendly, attentive, and helpful, and I’ve even seen them bring individual water bowls for each dog on the patio. Parking is super easy, which is nice compared to other parts of downtown and the riverfront!

The food was good, however a tad cold, but nonetheless it was pleasant. The service was okay, but this may have been caused by the busy atmosphere of mother's day. Overall however, we had a wonderful time and I would go again.

We experienced the High Tea today for a birthday celebration with a party of two. The historical Grant House building is beautiful and charming, providing a lovely and inviting atmosphere. However, despite the elegant setting, we left feeling hungry and disappointed. At $60 per person, we expected much more than what was offered. The selection included just one tea bag, three bite-sized finger sandwiches, a biscuit, and three tiny, one-bite desserts. While the desserts and biscuit were delicious, the portions were incredibly small for the price. To add to the disappointment, they ran out of our chosen tea, so we only received one serving each. The service was average and did not enhance the experience in any meaningful way. Overall, while the beautiful setting at the Grant House is undeniably charming, the experience felt extremely overpriced for the minimal amount of food provided. We left feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied.

We really enjoyed The Eatery at the Grant House. We were so bummed when it closed. When we heard that it had reopened under a new name and ownership we were excited to try it out. Unfortunately, it disappointed on many levels. The Grant House, itself is exactly the same, which we love. Its historic value is still intact. The restaurant was just ok and way too expensive for what it delivers. My wife and I were greeted by our server who was nice. The restaurant was pretty empty so we were given our choice where to sit. We decided to try a few items to share so that we could get a good sense of what they had to offer. We ordered two drinks to start off. Then we shared the Citrus salad, which was pretty good. We moved onto one of the weakest Charcuterie board I have ever laid my eyes on. Side note: if you are in the wine business, your charcuterie game should be strong! After the disappointment with the charcuterie board we moved on to the main which was Gnocchi with a sausage Bolognese. This was the best part of the meal. My wife also ordered a wine flight because they boasted that all of their wines were their own. She was served a three flight taster. The pours were ridiculous. We felt like maybe they had a shortage or something. They did show them as two oz pours but let's be real here, they were not and you should be giving more than a two ounce pour in a flight you are charging 18 dollars for. 18 dollars should get you a healthy glass of wine. We aren't in Manhattan or Beverly Hills, lol. Yes, I realize they are going to be much more expensive in these places. (I was being facetious). I spell it all out this way to say that my wife and I ordered one meal, not two! Two drinks and a wine flight and all together it came to 128 dollars with a tip. Seriously guys, this meal wasn't worth half as much and if we would have both ordered separate meals it would have been close to 250 dollars. Willful Wines at the Grant House really needs to step up their game to be charging these outrageous prices. The ambiance is still there but that just carries itself through the history of Officer Row.

M

Over priced for portion sizes. They asked us to be quiet even though no one else was in there and we had a private room. This was my 2nd time trying this place and won't be back. The first time the waitress spilled water all over the table (no big deal it happens) but then she was frustrated with me?! Left us sitting for 45 minutes so we just left.

K
Kadee Morrell

My husband told them we were there for my 30th birthday and asked if they could do a little something special. The waiter said, “oh it’s your birthday?” Then disappeared for an hour and never saw her until we had to ask for the check 3 times. Painfully long wait for food or any service. Total waste of time and money.

A
Amy Spring

This place is lovely but it is ridiculously expensive. $20-6oz hamburger with no side!? It’s too much.

K
Kate Jackson

the atmosphere is historic and charming. food was luke warm at best. caesar salad was good but main dish was terrible. we ordered the bolognese and scallops. scallops were ok but overpriced for what you receive. serving sizes were more like lunch serving amts. bread was excellent. management did not discount even after we expressed our disappointment

crtvglNathan Wood

The first time I showed up here they spilled a glass of water on me and never came back to take my order. So i gave them a second chance for the ghost tour. They put us in a private room which was nice. Then they came and told us too be quiet. Nobody was even in the place. When other people showed up they were just as loud as us. Not kid friendly with not go back.

T
Travel Girl

I wouldn't even consider giving this place a single star. It is an outright disgrace with a complete lack of customer service. The host woman was extremely condescending and unprofessional. We had a large group with a reservation, and when we asked to be served earlier, we were rudely denied. While waiting for our scheduled time, we approached the setup area, only to be told to move back to the street for allegedly blocking the entrance. First, we are paying customers and have the right to wait where we please. Second, the place was virtually empty—nothing more than a ghost town—so there was no excuse for such treatment. The host’s dismissive and superior attitude was utterly unacceptable, and as a result, we chose to leave and support a business that values its customers. They lost a huge check and tip because someone think they better than their customers. Do not go there! Ever!

R
Renee Rowe

Sever was terrible, then it turned out to be the owner. Unfriendly, didn't give any info about the wines served, never offered another drink after the first that I had to flag her down to order. This place will survive bc of its location but it would flourish with better servers. Food overall was good.

K
Kristin

We had our staff holiday party here. Definitely the most expensive staff party we have ever had which would have been fine if the experience met the price. The food was delicious but over priced. And the service was one of the worst we have ever had in the 11 years of hosting our staff party at different local establishments. The unfortunate part was that Pam, the wine maker was our server. I didn’t know that until our experience was over. She served us wine and didn’t explain what we were drinking and then we felt like she never came back to keep serving us. Would never have guessed that she was the owner or wine maker. We were left thirsty the whole 3 hours. The vibe and energy from her was unpleasant and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than customers. I hope we just caught her on an off night but we won’t be back. When I shared my concerns with Pam privately she wrote me an extensively long email back that was defensive and just not true, which is the only reason I’m writing this review now. Not what you hope for from a customer service side of things but again, being a small business owner myself I hope it was just an off night. But I wouldn’t recommend this place for a large group event from our experience.
