Opinions de Carlo's Restaurant Yonkers
Hubby's sister wanted to take us out to her favorite restaurant. She insisted we meet her here for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised. The outside does not look like much. It just looks like a local pizza joint. The upstairs is the sit down area and it was packed! There's a 3rd level that has tables and a full bar. Alot of groups of different sizes. 2 Birthday celebration happened while we were there. :) We were a party of 6 and placed reservations ahead of time so we were seated immediately. The hostess was friendly and helpful. The waiter was friendly, helpful and patient. She and her hubby had their favorite meals that were no longer on the menu but they accommodated us, the Filet of Sole and Flank Steak. Cheesy Garlic Bread that everyone loved. Antipasto was good but becareful it's on a cutting board so no edges to prevent spills and the oil dripped on my blouse when they came to put it down on the table. (Dolop of Shampoo and a little rub, it came right out!) Spaghetti with meat sauce, Plain Steak and Steak with Mushrooms and Onion were the family order. The basics ;) Hubby and I are more daring with food. We had Pasta Fagioli and Lentil Soup. We thought it would be a cup or small bowl but we got 2 large bowl of soup which would have been a meal in itself hehe. Both were good. The specials of the day included Pork Shank and Black Seabass. Pork Shank was so tender you don't need a knife. Seabass was amazing! Definitely recommend it! It's been a week and I'm still remembering it 🤤
The Yonkers Nostalgia mandated a 5 star rating. Is it perfect, no. Is it delicious, savory, generously portioned Italian food? Absolutely. Growing up cruising central ave this was a great spot for pizza downstairs in their lower level, or a Yonkers staple such as a chicken parm "wedge" upstairs. Ive gone back a several times over the past few years. Their red sauce is still of high quality and i was very satisfied with the meal overall. Great stop off heading home after a Yankee game, just minutes from the Sprain Pkwy, or any trip to the city. Nice to support businesses that have been around so long as well. Very nostalgic dining experience!
I've had take out before when I visit my uncle in Yonkers. Finally had a sit down experience on one of the busiest nights of the year NEW YEARS EVE. Not only was the food amazing and the service phenomenal you can feed a family of 3 with 1 dish (with chicken dishes under $30). This place is top notch to say the least.
Had the braschiole and mussels. Both were seasoned well and the sauce had a great consistency with great flavor. The bread was also high quality and tasty with a moist inside. Classic Italian American joint.
A longtime local favorite that truly feels like home. I used to attend RHS in the ’90s, back when Pete Sr. was running the show. Not many people could get Pete to crack a joke, but I was lucky enough to be one of his favorites—and I wore that badge of honor proudly. He would be so proud to see how Carlo’s is still going strong today, expanding in ways this community truly couldn’t live without. The food is always on point. Some of my personal favorites include the fried burrata over pesto, chicken scarpariello, Valdostana, arugula salad, cutlets, and their espresso martinis—just to name a few. Carlo’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a piece of local history done right.
Classic Yonkers staple of Italian American food. Reservations strongly recommended for dinner, as we went for a 645p reservation and the place was packed. Food was great, only problem was the wait for the food to come out. 1/2 off wine on tuesdays & they also have a pizza spot at the bottom of the building. Would recommend
My friend and I were in the neighborhood looking for another restaurant, but decided to stop at Carlo's "just to give it a try."No regrets whatsoever! The food is delicious and plentiful. The service excellent. The atmosphere was familiar. Rebecca took our order and checked on us while we were eating to make sure that everything was fine. We will definitely go back to Carlo's soon. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home.
SO good! I love chicken francese and it is the one thing I just can't get right. Have been searching for a place since Francesco's in White Plains closed and omggg I wish I went sooner. Baked clams- 0 fish flavor. Chicken francese- exactly how I love it. BF's chicken parm with vodka- too good. Portion could have easily fed 3 people. Free bread was also so, so good! Will definitely get the garlic bread next time. So excited to add this to the rotation. Added bonus- the meter on Tuckahoe Rd closest to the restaurant was broken, so free parking
July 13, 2025: Back to Carlo's again last night! I've been coming here for 40+ years. I have been taking my own boys here the last 16+ years. They love it. The food is always delicious, the service has been great, and we love the atmosphere. Charles is one of the best waiters ever! Just went again tonight. Order the gnocchi bolognese again! Went again last week! The gnocchi bolognese was amazing. Carlo's never disappoints. The food is delicious and the desserts even better! We tried a new dessert....it was really good. Our waitress was great as well.
I’ve been three times, and each visit to Carlo’s in Yonkers has been a delight! As an Italian (living in NYC for just over three years), I hold Italian food to the highest standard—yet Carlo’s American‑Italian twist wins me over every time. The cozy, warmly lit dining room feels like home, and the service is friendly and attentive without ever being intrusive. Highlights include their braciole simmered in a rich tomato sauce over rigatoni, stuffed clams, and the cannoli. Pair any dish with one of their carefully curated wines, and you’ve got a meal you won’t soon forget. Highly recommended!
How this place doesn’t have all 5 stars blows my mind. This is the definition of an off the charts restaurant. The food here is excellent to say the least, and on top of it, VERY reasonably priced. The drunken chicken parm (chicken parm w/ their house made vodka) is seriously the best thing I’ve ever had. Definitely recommend making a reservation here as it does fill up.
We had our family repass gathering. Lunch was served! Everything was excellent. Chicken Marsal, Eggplant /Parm pasta & vodka sauce, house salad, & salmon with roasted potatoes. The accommodation were great. We confirmed at the last minute & they were happy to assist. The large party staff was very polite, service was professional, the atmosphere was great. We could talk to pur loved ones. Bathroom accommodations good & clean. My personal thanks to the staff.
An unpretentious old-school Italian ristorante serving generous portions of traditional favorites at very good prices. Their arugula with gorgonzola salad is beyond scrumptious. The raspberry dressing, I was told, is made with fresh raspberries. You can make three meals out of their veal (or chicken) sorrentino. But it's not just about portion size. It's about quality and taste. Carlo's has it all. Look at the photo I posted of their tiramisu.
Amazing service!! Delicious food and portions are HUGE which was perfect because we were starving after walking all day. We called 3 places to request seating for 13 but other places said no. We arrived 5 mins before closing and our table was ready. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. Thank you for Voula, Max & Antonio. We have a wonderful memory!!
Food was so delicious and HUGE portions. Staff was amazing. The manager keep the restaurant open late for is because we were coming with a big group right at closing time. Everything we tried was tasty. They even have Fettuccine Alfredo, you just have to ask for it (not on the menu) but SO delicious.
I was in the area and came in for dinner. Food was excellent. They have all the Italian classics you would want and dishes can be ordered individually or family style. The pictures I took are of individual portions, which are generous! Cesar salad was fresh and well dressed. Chicken parm was delicious. Cannolis were perfect. Staff was very friendly. Overall a great value. Our table did not order this, but I saw many other tables order the NY strip steak, which was very large and came sliced. The steak seems to be a very popular dish and looked delicious.
Food is good, atmosphere is nice. Place gets packed! Definitely reserve a table if you can. Chicken parm was delicious and penne with vodka sauce was good but darker than I'm used to and they left out bacon bits in it. That garden salad with their homemade dressing 😍 They also accommodate big parties of 20+
Food was good. The vibe was weird at first. They sat us right next to where the servers hang out, and they were literally on top of us, and were so loud I couldn't even enjoy. Wasn't even crowded so they should not have sat us at that terrible table. But we asked them to move us, and they did, and it was fine after that. Still, it's annoying that they put us in that position to begin with.
I love their food, but they've messed up my orders enough times times for it to be an issue. I'm only making this review though because they had the audacity to be rude about it too. There's tons of other great Italian places in the area, not worth the grief of coming here again. Crazy long waits too.
Not one, not two, but three times they messed up our order for a pick up. On the third time they gave my order to someone else. They didn’t even have the courtesy to tell me or even ask me if I was still waiting on an order when I was the last waiting for their order. When I finally ask how my order was coming along, they realized I was the order who was given to someone else. To top it all off, when they knew I was unpleased about the whole situation, they rush to heat everything up and my food was lukewarm at best. Not that losing my business makes any difference nor will they change anything about their service, but maybe this review will at least help someone else out when they are thinking about ordering here for pick up.
I’ve ordered from this restaurant twice, and unfortunately both experiences were very disappointing. The first time was about a year ago when we dined in, and it was a terrible experience. This past weekend, we decided to give them a second chance and ordered takeout. We ordered shrimp parmigiana, penne alla vodka with chicken cutlets, and a side of calamari. After waiting an hour and a half for delivery—even though the restaurant is only 10 minutes away—the order arrived incomplete. The shrimp parmigiana was missing. When I called the restaurant, the woman I spoke with insisted the order was complete. I even offered to FaceTime to show her that it was missing. Eventually, she said they would send it out, but it took another hour to arrive. We had planned to eat dinner together as a family and ended up waiting so we could all eat at the same time. To make matters worse, the next day my boyfriend became very sick with stomach pain, a fever, and constant trips to the bathroom. We had to go to urgent care, where he was diagnosed with food poisoning. Between the long wait times, missing food, poor customer service, and getting sick afterward, this will definitely be our last time ordering from here.
