really great place to get food after a long day in yosemite NP! we had the grilled Cesar salad which tasted really good, then we had the soupe du jour-amazing! as for dessert, we had the carrot cake which was delicious! the service was fast and warm, and the atmosphere was really nice
Celebrated a great weekend and an anniversay at the Mountain Room. Fine dining and delicious food met with beautiful rustic setting. Services was impeccible . Lamb shank , octopus appetizer , filet , shrimp coctail were some of the many treats we tasted at our dinner. What a way to end our stay in Yosemite. Take the time and reserve you reservation before you arrive.
Superb meal in the most incredible location. Food and service both wonderful, and the dining room had a lovely atmosphere - somehow both tranquil yet not stuffy. Steaks cooked perfectly, terrific IPA beer and excellent Zinfandel wine. One of the best meals we enjoyed on an extensive road trip.
We had a wonderful dinner here. We both got the filet mignon and it was tender and delicious. It's a beautiful dining room. Felt cozy and warm inside (it was in the 40's outside). Service was great. Didn't wait long for the food to be served. Highly recommend making a reservation.
Staff was friendly, drinks were good, was a little confused on who the server was. Anyways the drinks were delicious on a very cold snowy night. Sat by the fire, if you chose to do this be careful of embers popping out, we moved the table slightly away from the edge of the bricks and we were good.
This place is awesome but make a reservation. We did and we were seated very quickly next to the beautiful windows where you have a view of the mountains. Shawn our server was great! One of the nicest servers I've ever had. Food was great too! The chicken and the French onion soup was exceptional! Great atmosphere, dim, cozy but classy. Really enjoyed our first night in Yosemite at The Mountain Room !
Phenomenal food, service, and ambience. Can’t recommend highly enough! We had the salmon and grilled chicken, it was just perfectly done. Cooked to perfection, the BBQ sauce is amazing with just the right amount of heat. Had a Negroni on one night and they added a hint bitters and cayenne, sublime!
Best meal I've had in months! Everything was fantastic: the wine selection, the pork chop (so delicious), and the dessert were all exceptional quality. Dinner here is well-worth the price.
We had a great experience here. The chicken was delicious and Sean was a great server and very attentive! Highly recommend.
We dined twice and we both enjoyed trout and also steak. Both meals were very tasty. Service is very professional. Mixed drinks and wine are very good. We always order a salad to begin that my wife and I share. The first night was great, but the second night - the beet salad - was very odd as it consisted almost entirely of pumpkin, very little beets, and no greens - hence I would avoid this salad as it is really not a salad.
After our rather disappointing experience at the Ahwahnee dining room (yes, that historic place with the cardboard plates), we were pointed in an unexpected direction: the budget Yosemite Valley Lodge — more precisely, its surprisingly elegant Mountain Room Restaurant. Reservation? Smooth as silk. A little tip for fellow travelers: when in the US, don’t be shy — skip the line and head straight to the host stand if you’ve booked ahead. That’s what reservations are for. We were promptly seated at a lovely window table with a stunning view of the Dome. Unfortunately, the A/C was blowing a chilly alpine breeze our way. No problem — our waiter Shean stepped in like a true pro and swiftly moved us to a warmer table without fuss. His warm, professional hospitality was one of the best we’ve encountered in two months of U.S. dining. And then came the food. Oh wow. I started with the Moroccan-style roasted cauliflower — a revelation of spices. For the main, I chose the cabbage rolls stuffed with lentils, topped with a North African-inspired sauce. The Cambodian-born chef clearly knows his way around a spice rack. Every bite was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and imaginative. Who needs meat when vegetarian cuisine can taste like this? We paired the dishes with a Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles and a Merlot from Krug Napa Valley — both bold enough to complement the richly spiced meal. Final verdict: This is one of those rare U.S. restaurant experiences I’ll actually write about. If you’re in Yosemite Valley and looking for a proper meal (and a break from buffets and burgers), do yourself a favor and book a table at The Mountain Room. A real surprise — and a very pleasant one.
Exceeded my expectations. The restaurant itself has beautiful post and beam architecture, with huge glass walls so you can enjoy the views of the park while you have your meal. We ate there four nights and enjoyed everything from the salmon to filet mignon, chicken, and the other steak choice. All were excellent, soup and roasted squash salad also excellent. Must make reservations as we saw several people turned away. Our experience with the service was great, waiters always checking on us, and water constantly refilled. Other reviews regarding casual attire are accurate, but we showered up and wore something nice. Can't understand the 3 star reviews, it is amazing for where and what it is.
Excellent soup-of-the-day in an exceptional environment (Yosemite photography by Ansel Adams and recent Adams Gallery photographers) for a light/late dinner. Another evening highlight was the Crispy Brussels, which were seasoned, cooked and crisped to perfection. Terryn’s congeniality and attentive service capped the experience.
One of the best places we ate in the national parks!! Beautiful surroundings. Food was very good, upscale compared to other available restaurants. Pricey.
The filet mignon was really really good. The trout was stellar. The tofu and mushroom dish had some nice things going for it, like the tofu was torn into pieces which was cool. But the turmeric was overpowering while the tofu was flavorless. The crunchy shallots were a nice touch. The whole dish was under seasoned. Our server was excellent and our waters were refilled constantly. Such a great experience!
We had a great dining experience at The Mountain Room, and our server, Eric S., was exceptional. His attentiveness and warm service added a lot to our evening. We ordered the filet mignon, a burger, the soup of the day (tomato basil), and French onion soup. I thoroughly enjoyed my steak, cooked to perfection, and all the flavors were on point. The soups were great. The burger was just what my husband wanted after a full day of hiking. Though it was dark outside and I couldn’t speak to the view, the atmosphere inside was inviting. I noticed some reviews are critical of the restaurant, but it’s important to remember that, given the remote location, they likely face challenges with deliveries and staffing. Overall, I would recommend this spot for a satisfying meal in a beautiful setting!
Dined with my family here for dinner and we loved it. Beautiful tall windows provide a backdrop of the valley. Staff was friendly, food was excellent, and wine was delicious (we had the seven sins Zinfandel). Variety of meat and veggie entrees and appetizers, something for everyone. Some highlights were the trout and Brussels sprouts. Would definitely dine here again when in the valley and wanting a nice sit down meal. Decor was contemporary and tasteful - I think I spied a few Ansel Adams prints as well! This restaurant far exceeded our expectations, and was a real treat being inside Yosemite and getting to eat so well. Highly recommend!
🍽Rib Eye Steak and Braised Lamb Shank... And a beautiful view. The time of the year we were in Yosemite there was hardly any people compared to summer time. So we were seated right away. This was also the year that California received lots of rain fall and snow in the Sierra's so the entire park was lush with many waterfalls. So we were able to have a great view of Yosemite falls from the restaurant, with it's frozen snow cone effect.
We very much enjoyed the Mountain Room restaurant. While Ahawanee restaurant has the nostalgia, this restaurant has the good food, good service and atmosphere. As vegans we had fried mushrooms for appetizer, with risotto and stuffed cabbage for main. It was awesome. A pleasant surprise for Yosemite concessions. Our meal for 4 people was only $200 and that’s is a great value for this dinner experience. We were told the chief is new and really trying to make an impact. Kudos because it was a highlight of our trip.
We dined here twice during our stay in Yosemite and both times were pretty awesome. The first time I had the burger and it was probs the best burger I've had in a long time...juicy, well-seasoned, perfectly cooked. The second time we were there for our wedding anniversary so we both got the 10 oz filet mignon. Again, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, very delish. And the mashed potatoes that came with it were amazing. We're about to have the cheesecake for dessert, but I'm sure it won't disappoint. Definitely come here at least once if you're going to be staying in the park. Well worth it!!
The service was great and the view of the upper falls provided a nice backdrop and object of conversation. For example, we discussed the flow rate of the waterfall compared to, uh, our shower at home and determined it would be like a Tim Allen Home Improvement experience to shower under the falls :-). My Manhattan cocktail could have been colder, but other than this the seared trout and the mole pork chop were both delicious. Our waiter Sean was attentive and presented everything with panache. Parking is available, but you will have to hunt patiently for an empty spot. Reservation is required.
Great food, great service, nice surroundings. Pricey, but food quality and preparation were excellent. Nice folks, clean area. Halibut and steak were excellent. Stella on draft a plus. Make a reservation!
Erik, our waiter, was very polite and at the same time entertaining our little one year old. He also made sure we were comfortably waiting despite a little longer waiting for our dinner. Aside from him, you can tell that the staff are on point with anything you need (frequent water refills, crayons, and coloring sheets for little one, etc). The ambience was warm and cozy. Definitely worth dining in.
Great place for dinner after a long day hiking in the park. Food is on the pricier side, but it was really good. Lots of ingredients sourced locally. Steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Highly recommend the bread appetizer, the bread is very good and the butter it comes with is delicious. Service was excellent and everything was very clean. Best bathrooms we found in the valley.
This place was super worth it. Great food and nice big room to eat in with giant windows to see the waterfall. We definitely enjoyed it. The pork chop and ribeye tenderloin were great, as was a special of chickpea soup. The kids chicken fingers were good too. Definitely get reservations here. Ours were at 5 and we basically walked right in, there was a big line.

We ate here twice while visiting the park and would come back time and time again! It's is so important to make reservations in advance even in the off season because this place always books up. Get the lamb, it's amazing!!!
A welcome finer dining break from the other options around the lodge which are more cafeteria focused. Pictured is a filet mignon entree with blue cheese added, asparagus, mashed potatoes and red pepper plus a glass of forest project Cabernet from Paso Robles. Service was decent, food was solid. Other portion not pictured was halibut entree but it left some to be desired, stuck with turf items here ;)
We stayed in Yosemite this winter and have dined at all the restaurants in the Valley (…cause there’s only few). In my opinion, mountain room was better than Ahwahnee dining that offered buffet for dinner. Food here was surprisingly good and maybe the best place for the quality food in the Valley - we ordered salad, French onion soup, lamb shank, grilled salmon. Their wine list is quite good too. It was winter so less crowded but I recommend making reservation cause there’s limited dining options.
Came here for a nice meal after a long hike in the day. Service here is outstanding with great care given throughout the meal. Drinks menu is decently priced and has a good selection, while the food menu is mostly classics with some interesting dishes. Thought the lamb shank was very hearty but also a bit too rustic for my liking. Steak was decent but maybe too charred. Brussel sprouts were standout, and the eggnog creme brulee ended things well. All in, a good spot in the valley for a nice meal!
Wow I was super impressed with the vegan food options here. I had no idea that I’ll eat royally when I’m the park. The pineapple upside down cake was out of this world. You must get this if they have it on the menu. I enjoyed the rest of the dishes as well even though the mushrooms were VERY salty. I love salty but this was on the higher end limit even for me. Also the service was a bit slow maybe they were understaffed. Our waiter was literally walking away as I was placing my order.
One of the better places to eat in the valley if you can afford it. Food is good to excellent with a nice selection of options on the menu. It is on the pricey side so expect to spend 50.00-75.00 per person for dinner. Service is hit and miss and can be slow at times. Staff seemed friendly enough. Considering the lack of restaurants here this is the best choice. Would recommend it over any of the other options except maybe the bar at the Ahwannee that also offers some food options..
By far the best dining experience in Yosemite valley now that the Ahwahnee has become such an overpriced disaster. The mountain room restaurant and the bar next door are both far superior to the Ahwahnee and also less overpriced. Corkage is a very reasonable $17.50 so be sure to bring your own wine.
This is a beautiful setting in Yosemite where you can enjoy a really good meal. Reservations, especially during the busy months, are strongly recommended. The salads were chock full of goodies and well dressed. The sirloin steak was done perfectly -- pink and moist. The creamy potato dish accompaniment was super tasty and the briccolini was perfectly cooked. The servers were congenial and efficient. They have a separate bar where you can do drinks and get more casual fare. There are basically two fine dining options on the valley floor. I would definitely come back to The Mountain Room again.
We often eat at fine dinning restaurants and we were not overly please with this restaurant, especially for the price. Our server was nice and seemed to be working hard but it did take a WHILE to get our food. I loved! My purple potato puree, however my chicken breast on the thicker side of the breast was undercooked. I also feel they need to stick to the dress code.
Food, service and atmosphere is many times better than the nearby fast food service cafeteria, the main thing that lets this down is the somewhat limited menu. Not many options meant that we either ate the same thing, or weren’t really interested. If the menu had a wider range of options, we probably would have eaten here every day during our stay in Yosemite. Atmosphere and service is good.
This is definitely the best food you can get within the park, it should be said. It's just that that's not saying much given the options. My husband and I had the burger and the portobello mushroom sandwich respectively, which were coincidentally the cheapest items on the menu. The portions were huge, but my sandwich was missing the tomato and aoili sauce that was in the item description, so I did feel a little cheated on the flavour - but at least there was the upside on only spending around $25, as I know most of the other mains were around $40.
The onion soup would have been better if it had more onions. The onion soup should be called bread soup with onions. The halibut smelled a little fishy and slightly overcooked. I had the 10 oz Filet it was good but not great. Service was great, very attentive staff.
Great-tasting food. I ordered my steak medium rare which came out perfectly. The cheesecake melted in my mouth and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The onion soup was delicious. Unfortunately the paloma I ordered tasted like pine-sol. I don’t often drink palomas so I’m not sure if it’s supposed to taste like this. Accommodating to food allergies (peanut/nut) and my server was attentive and excellent!!
If you are staying at Yosemite Valley Lodge, this is the best dining option. The menu offers a great variety, and the food quality is really good—everything feels fresh and well-prepared. The onion soup is a "must-try" if you come here; it was definitely the highlight of the meal. The atmosphere is lovely—spacious, beautifully designed, and very welcoming. On top of that, the pricing is very fair for the quality you get. Pro tip: It gets quite busy, so I highly recommend making a reservation to secure your spot!
Food was delicious. Service was VERY slow. Vegetarian and non-alcoholic drinks. While the servers were attentive and kind, it took about 45-60 minutes on both times for us to get our food with no mention of it, had I known, I would have ordered an appetizer or a second drink. I recommend an earlier reservation to reduce the food wait time. Definitely make a reservation, even during December during the "slow" season, the restaurant was busy and reservations full, so no walk-ins were admitted. The food was very tasty, better than I expected for a state park, but very pricey, even for a San Francisco resident. I'd go back.
Ordered a ribeye steak at medium cook, but got a well-done instead, and my partner’s pan roasted halibut was dry. Our waiter was very kind and got me a medium cook steak, which tasted really good and just cooked right, after I showed him the first one he served. Not sure if this is a fine dining restaurant but the prices are. There are limited selection of wine, beer, and cocktail but good ones. I would have rated this restaurant 3-star, but because of our waiter, I gave a 4-star.
The food with its presentation will pleasantly surprise you. Compliments to the chef. This is fine dining in the Valley. Dinner reservations are absolutely necessary. Service was inconsistent. It depended greatly on the server.
One of the hidden gems of the valley. Great food and equally good service. Must visit for fine dining options in the valley.
The Mountain Room in Yosemite Valley National Park provided a memorable dining experience that perfectly complemented the natural beauty of our wedding day. We managed to secure a table for five about three weeks before our wedding, opting for an early dinner so we could catch the sunset. The restaurant is conveniently located in the lower valley, with ample parking for dinner, although finding a spot during lunchtime can be quite challenging due to limited space. The restaurant's ambiance is a delightful blend of modern aesthetics and cabin-like charm, seamlessly tying into the park's rustic feel. The panoramic views of the surrounding mountains from the dining area are nothing short of breathtaking, enhancing the overall experience and making it feel like a true retreat in nature. When it comes to the food, the appetizers were a bit of a letdown. Having dined at numerous fine restaurants in cities like Chicago, I found the Prosciutto and Burrata cheese appetizer to be underwhelming, mainly because of the sparse amount of meat. However, the balsamic drizzle was a standout, adding a rich and tangy complement to the dish. I was also a bit disappointed to see that we had to pay extra for the bread and compound butter, but the chili dill compound butter turned out to be an unexpected delight, offering an insane yet subtle flavor combination that I loved. For our main courses, we ordered a variety of dishes, including steaks, trout, and pork chops. The pork chop was the highlight of the evening—it was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy, which is exactly what we were hoping for. It was by far the best portion of protein that night. Unfortunately, the trout missed the mark; it was too dry and lacked sufficient seasoning. Nonetheless, I finished my meal and appreciated the effort. The steaks were well-cooked and flavorful, though they tended to be on the well-done side, so I recommend ordering based on this tendency. Despite these small issues, this was the best meal I have ever had in a national park, offering quality and flavor that exceeded my expectations. Adding to the positive experience, the restaurant surprised us with a bottle of champagne to celebrate our wedding, a thoughtful gesture that made our evening even more special. Our waiter was exceptionally well-informed and attentive, ensuring our glasses were always refilled and our table remained clean throughout the meal. In summary, while the appetizers might not impress and the fish could use improvement, The Mountain Room excels in other areas. The pork chop is a must-try, and the steaks are a solid choice if you adjust for the doneness. The restaurant's ambiance, combined with the stunning mountain views, makes it a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal. The staff's attentiveness and the special touches, like the complimentary champagne, add to the overall charm. For anyone planning a visit, I recommend skipping the appetizers, avoiding the fish, opting for the pork chop or steak, and soaking in the beautiful surroundings with a drink in hand. By following these tips, you're sure to have an enjoyable and memorable dining experience at The Mountain Room.
This is the quickest option for families staying at the lodge . Just a walking distance from the cottages. It serves food from breakfast till dinner and the quality is good . Very convenient for people with children .It remains mostly busy hence service gets a bit slow but can’t complain. The views are amazing as it’s right amidst mountains and forest .

“It’s not just good, it’s good enough “ Came with a party of 4 people, the food was ok, the stake was overlooked :( One dish came in within 5 min and the rest followed after about 45 min… strange. Also, a bit overpriced, but I should not be surprised about that… just wanted to mentioned that… the total for 4 people came to $340 … that is overpriced! Sorry.
Amazing views with exceptional staff, and great food presentation. The food however was only OK, sometimes even decent. Yes, you don't go to Yosemite for the food... but it doesn't need to be so disconnected. I will grant that I am impressed they got a filet mignon to remain tender even though they served it "medium rare" without a single bit of pink remaining.
The fillet was actually delicious and cooked perfect. Halibut was very fishy and bland, no flavor but looked delicious. Called and they said that there was a dress code of business casual so we dressed accordingly but when we got seated, there was people in ninja turtle T-shirts as well as cut off sleeves and hiking gear so we were definitely WAY overdressed which was frustrating after a 12 hour travel day and hiking to rush to get ready. Dress code clearly not enforced. Host was super nice and friendly however he told me that there was two Pinot noir’s by the glass and got me excited about one I had had before and come to find out that was only by the bottle. Disappointing. Our server took 20 minutes to come over to us, and only came back by once he was absolutely awful! And the restaurant was not that busy. We did not sit down until 9 PM. The bus boy was absolutely amazing and was by our table every five minutes refilling waters and very efficient. Had to ask him to add a kids meal to the order & for our check because our waiter was no where to be found. Kids pasta was just okay, nothing special. Side salad was actually delicious, but very basic. Bread was good but there was a charge for it. Very nice restaurant and atmosphere was great but would not go back.
Some room for improvement; the wall I sat next to had many splashes/stains and really needed to be wiped down. I am not sure how they are sanitizing their tables, as I just saw the guy use the same rag over and over again with no cleaner. Place overall seemed a bit dirty. They have beautiful photos on the wall so you feel like you are in a gallery setting. The food was OK. Our server Val was awesome!
Here is what i rated this . After a long day we look forward to a great night at the mountain room highly recommended . The sound was great and salad ok . Service starting was excellent and then totally tanked ! Our friend has the rib eye and loved it , we had the pork chop and not really cooked like it should be , they could have cared less . Then the service was awful , thanks goodness the assistant to the waiter as spot he because he disappeared , then took 20 minutes to get out check . So don’t get the pork chop , get the steak and prepare to wait .
Online booking for September only. I came at 5 o’clock and there was 1 person on the reservation, and there were 15 people in the queue, I was 4, they didn’t put me in and said to come at 8. I came for children’s pasta $ 10, the horror is not tasty. Mussels in tomato sauce too. The mango lemonade was plain and without the mango! Only the soup of the day was delicious.
Overall a pleasant experience. The House Salad had an excellent dressing. The French Onion soup was deep and flavorful but needed to be broiled so the cheese was bubbly. The rack of lamb was tender and seasoned well, but the saffron rice was undercooked and under seasoned. The broccolini was ok. The ribeye was perfectly cooked, but covered with a tomato sauce that brought nothing to the experience. The risotto was the worst risotto I have ever had, including boxed. Service was excellent.
We came here while on vacation to Yosemite. We reserved a table wanting to go to a more upscale place to eat instead of quick snacks or fast food style restaurants. The restaurant itself is really nice with a great ambiance. After being sat, the review starts to go downhill. Everyone was sat on one half of the restaurant, right on top of each other while the entire other half was wide open. We ordered muscles and a bread basket for an appetizer. These were quite good. I ordered a rare ribeye, wife ordered the trout and my daughter ordered the sirloin medium rare. The trout was very fishy instead of the mild flavor with not much seasoning. My steak was past medium and my daughters was rare. Overall, not the worst. But if you are looking for an upscale meal with fine dining feel, don’t have to high of expectations. Especially at fine dining prices.
Given the location, I think some things are to be expected. Food was okay but not memorable. I think were very limited on food options and most was very unhealthy. Seemed a little expensive for what it was worth. Atmosphere was great though.
Super nice place. Brought my fiancee here for dinner at the end of January. Restaurant was short staffed and wait was pretty long (even with reservation). Trout was EXCELLENT but fillet was average.
Pricey but reasonable for the location. We enjoyed the wagyu burger and lamb chops. Dining room was fairly empty on a Monday night so food came out within 30 minutes. Unfortunately our server lost our credit card walking back to the station and just assumed we didn’t give him a card, so we sat waiting for 10 minutes wondering why he brought the check back. He hardly apologized when he finally realized and never ended up finding the card.
The place is nice and you need to book it in advance for a proper dinner time (6pm onwards). The food was ok for the most part, but the risotto is a waste of money.

We had a reservation for dinner after a long day of hiking in Yosemite. The hostess was a bit snooty and unfriendly, but the dining area is nice. Boris was our server (not that he told us his name, but he had a name tag). I think we would have had a much better experience if we had had a different server. I asked him what the “oyster mushrooms” were and he literally said, “they are oyster mushrooms - you want one order?” That’s helpful, Boris, thanks. One of our favorite restaurants at home has crab-stuffed mushrooms so I said, “they don’t actually have oysters in them, do they?” He said no, in a patronizing manner and didn’t offer any additional info about how they’re cooked or the flavor. I asked if they’re deep-fried. He said, “yes, you want an order?” I said, no, I don’t eat deep-fried food. He was rushing us, and the restaurant was still practically empty bc our reservation was at 5:15 pm so it was still early. The French onion soup is listed under “shareables” so I asked how big it was and he said, “normal size” in a clipped manner. He has a thick accent so maybe where he’s from, this curt tone isn’t perceived as rude? We ordered 3 French onion soups. I asked if the halibut was good and he said it’s too fishy, get the trout, so I did. The trout was 2 very thin filets and had zero flavor. I added salt and pepper to make it edible. My husband got the Wagyu burger which was delicious if you like blue cheese. Both our kids got the Mary’s organic chicken breast and said it was good. A female server came by and asked if we wanted dessert. She was so sweet (wish I had gotten her name) and recommended the avocado mint cheesecake, which sounded a little odd, but we took her recommendation. It was delicious! She walked by later and asked how it was and we told her we loved it and thanked her. If she had been our server, we would’ve had a great time. Instead, we chatted about how rude Boris was the whole dinner, which kept us amused, I guess. This place was a nice option for upscale food, where you could dine in your hiking attire, but you’ll def pay a bit for it. Probably a good experience and worth it, as long as you don’t get Boris.

The only thing this place has going for it is location and view. I was pretty excited about a nice dinner during our stay in Yosemite, and I made reservations a month or so in advance. What a huge disappointment. A bread basket costs $6.50. My husband said the bread was Rudy's brand, a par-baked product that was merely ok. They were served with garlic butter, the best part of the meal. I had sweet potato and chickpea fritters. They were not very hot, and certainly not crispy, and there was no discernable sweet potato flavor in them. In fact, they were relatively flavorless. A sad looking ramekin of aioli was on the side, and appeared as though it had been sitting out all day, judging by the skin on top. My husband had chicken with mashed potatoes, which he said wasn't very hot or well seasoned. For dessert we shared a creme brulee. It was thin and watery and had barely any burned sugar on top. This meal cost us $70, and I only ordered an appetizer, and no alcohol. Our server took our order, brought our food, brought our check, and never once asked how the food was. It was like he was embarrassed about the lousy quality of the food. Don't waste your money here. Go to the Mountain Room Lounge, or get a grab and go food from the gift shop.
Some people received their food very fast however we had to wait an entire hour until our food came out. Also very strangely, our food was delivered the moment we asked for it. The Cesar salad is also overpriced and doesn’t even include chicken. Otherwise the atmosphere was good.
My dad and I had 7:00 pm reservations at The Mountain Room, but since we arrived early, they were able to seat us a few minutes ahead of schedule—a good start. However, the experience quickly went downhill from there. Initially, our waiter was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and eager to help. However, I quickly realized that everything on the menu was “excellent” according to him—which, while a nice sentiment, isn’t exactly helpful when trying to decide what to eat. A little more insight on what dishes truly stand out would have been appreciated. As the meal went on, service declined significantly. I ordered a second glass of wine, which never arrived, and by the end of the meal, we waited over 20 minutes just to get our check. Meanwhile, our waiter was deep in conversation with another employee and a customer, even pulling out his phone to show something on his screen—all while other tables, including ours, sat unattended. I eventually had to interrupt him just to get the bill. As a pescatarian, my options were limited, so I went with the portobello burger. The mushroom itself was cooked perfectly, but the rest of the dish lacked depth of flavor, especially considering the price tag. Also, the burger was incredibly messy, but that part didn’t bother me—I’m always up for a little challenge. While the setting is beautiful, the food and service didn’t justify the price. I left feeling like I would have had a better experience at The Eatery next door. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend it? Unfortunately, also no. For a place with such a stunning location, I expected more in both flavor and service.
I went with 4 other people and our experience was awful except for our buser Rose. We ordered 6 meals (our friend wanted to share the lamb with the table). I ordered the French onion soup and chicken in lobster sauce. The soup was OK, not the best not the worst. Our waiter brought everyone's meals but my chicken and told me it would be just a few minutes . Well, he hid from us for the next 30 minutes, while the rest of my party finished their meals. Then he brought my meal, with a quick "so sorry for the wait" and ran off again. The only bright light was our buser Rose who was very attentive for having 3 sections to keep track of. Management made it right after someone in our party spoke to her. Unacceptable still for a fine dining experience. And the food was not the delicious. The best part of the meal was the ice cream
The good: great service. Rose and Boris may sound like they are from a cartoon but seriously, fabulous service. Absolutely loved them. Also good: great location. It's in the park, if you're staying at the Lodge you can just walk to dinner. The restaurant building is in better shape than a lot of the Lodge property, so that's a plus. The bad: food is bland, I'm not entirely sure how you can strip the flavor right out of a plate of roasted mushrooms, but I do know if you plate a salad, dress it, and leave it sitting open in the walk in for hours, that's what came to the table. The ugly: unreal the way they price for what they are serving. I understand that it's a remote park, it's a concession contract with an outside vendor, but let's not pretend like it's fresh made on premises instead of coming in frozen, and get the prices in line with what it is. Don't charge like it's Morton's when the quality is more like a bad trip to Applebees.
1-star for food. Blend, no flavor, price is fine for a restaurant like this, but expect a flavorful meal which was totally missing. Looks mostly pre-made food. 1-star for service: 20% minimum service fees for group of 7 is typical for restaurant like this but expectations are good service. Again missing the boat here also. And server just didn’t care for missing service and meal requirements. 4-star for location but that’s the only good part. If you want good flavorful meal for $50-80 entrees go somewhere else. This is not the place. This place is crowded during peak season so they care less about providing good service.
Great atmosphere and good service but the food was terrible. I had a risotto last night that I couldn’t finish as it was not edible. Ended up paying over 100 USD for two people. We also had Cauliflower and trout that were ok’ish. Overall not really worth the price
Nice place. Poor service. Only had soup and salad and both were below standard. Had to ask twice for my wine which finally came at the end of the meal and had been open so long it lost flavor. Onion soup too salty; I make better at home. Screwed up the bill to overcharge us. I was looking forward to not tipping but there was mandatory 20% service charge because of group size (10); disappointment on top of disappointment. Would not recommend.
We were told there was no table for 4 and we might have to wait until 7:30pm or never. We arrived at 5:00pm and were the first walk-in of the night. If we could not be seated, does that mean you do not accept walk-ins at all? It felt very unwelcoming. We suggested to split into two tables of 2. The host said, “Do we take 2-person walk-ins?” which we did not understand. If you don’t take 2 people, how many people do you take? When we finished eating, there were still many empty 4-person tables next to us. We asked to speak to the manager. He was even more rude and spoke to us disrespectfully. When we raised our concern, he only said, “What do you need?”
The broccoli soup (today’s special) was excellent—definitely the highlight of the meal. The Roasted Squash Salad and Burrata were good, but the Wagyu burger was surprisingly disappointing. It lacked flavor, and the excessive caramelized onions made it overly sweet. Honestly, it was difficult to finish after the first bite. Overall, a mixed experience.

This experience was horrible. We had reservations for my wife's birthday with a specific table. Everything was confirmed but when got there the only thing they remembered was that we had a reservation. Next was the food, if this stuff was fresh it was definitely not cooked to the proper temperature. Everything was cold, and chewy. We got the tofu and the portobello burger, both had a funny smell and taste. Save yourself money and time go next door to the Basecamp cafe, its over priced but not nearly as bad as this place.
The reception here is not trying to help. Plenty of empty tables, but they refuse to serve without reservation, doesn’t make sense at all. Kids and seniors need to eat and can’t spent long time driving out of the park for restaurant.
Beware do not go to this bar the only thing good here is the bar that drinks were okay the food lousy no fire chili beans nasty on a plate taste horrible Wendy's chili beans are all over these people the salad was horrible with chicken , the ribs had two pieces of ribs and vegetables horrible cold food $30 for that wow tourist trap the owner you cannot see what you're serving here all your food is horrible you need somebody to do a makeover good luck for the next suckers to eat here look at all the posts
Horrible experience! we went there for our anniversary dinner and were extremely disappointed. This place is meant to be fine dining, but service is not up to the mark and food is devoid of any taste. Our fish entree arrived within a minute after placing the order and it came even before the appetizers. And that fish looked dead as hell, dry and crispy like an overcooked bacon. We had to remind the Waiter regarding our Onion soup, which arrived when we were about to leave. And he was nowhere to be found for the majority of our meal. Ruined our evening and totally not worth the time and money.
Save your money, go to a food court!! Overpriced and overcooked. Ordered a medium filet mignon which was burnt on the outside and grey and dry on the inside. I waited 20 minutes to send it back but no one ever asked how it was. When the waiter finally came to ask if we wanted dessert I told him how poorly cooked it was but they never offered anything for it. An $9 burger at a food court would’ve been much preferred!
I highly do not recommend this place. The food tastes decently good, and the atmosphere is fantastic. However, several issues occurred during our dining experience which I will list below, and are the reasons why I will not be visiting again. 1) 3 members of our table ordered the French onion soup. Several minutes later, we were told that the kitchen had run out, and offered other options. This is fine, but the issue comes about from the fact that a separate table (which sat after us) received an order of French Onion soup roughly 20 minutes after we received our entrees. 2) It took over an hour for our table to receive our entrees. One meal was brought over 10 minutes before the others. My father, whose lifelong dream was to visit Yosemite, received a cold $40 Wagyu burger. 3) I was told that the kitchen was out of potatoes, 40 minutes after I had ordered my entree. I didn’t have the menu at this point and had to pick a substitute. Overall, this was a pretty awful experience. My father has wanted to come to Yosemite for his entire life, and during our week long, once in a lifetime trip, we had only one sit down dinner reservation, which was this. Thank you, Mountain Room, for a truly unforgettable experience that my family will bring up for years to come.
We from speaking with the waiter about the bus stop preventing us from going there every day to speaking with the manager about the lack of server and walking out without eating. The waiter disappeared after the initial 15 minutes and didn’t check in at all. I only asked for the manger after waiting over an hour after ordering and having multiple people around us sit, order and finish their food. Entrees came out after having to speak to the manager, Nick, who the staff took a while to find in the bar next door. Would not recommend the establishment.
Go to the Majestic instead! Or eat in your room. Lounge: Probably the worst 'old fashioned' I've ever had. My friend had a hot chocolate that was both watery and overly sweet/sugary at the same time. I know yosemite has a bad reputation for food and drink, but this was another level. Very few tables, insufficient for the size of the Lodge. The positives: good service, good location, and big windows. 2 stars Restaurant: disgusting. Much of the same food as in the lounge or buffet next door. Soup of the day was bean soup 3 days in a row, and tasted like it was from a can. Some beans were cold and 'stuck' inside a cube of concealed fat. I suspect they only use 1 kitchen for all 3. It was very dark, even for mood lighting. The food was very average/poor. Poor value. 1 star.
High prices for bland and small quantities of food. I really regret having spent so much and having eaten dishes without any emotion and which did not satisfy us. The $35 mushroom rissotto is ultra banal and very small, the $39 trout has no taste and its accompaniment almost non-existent, and the children's chicken tastes nothing. Very big frustration and feeling like I was ripped off. I still gave a tip of 19.5% because the servers had nothing to do with this shipwreck, but $245 for 5 people (only 1 dish per person and 2 drinks) to eat this, it's quite scandalous...
Would rather starve in my room, hate-eating a handful of raw almonds than ever set foot in this place. Came here against my will (staying at the lodge - no other feasible dinner options), granted we were a large group but food came out at completely random times (half of the table was done eating and one of our party was left waiting for his food for 1.5 hours). I had a $35!!!!!!! Trout that had raw mini bell peppers (not deseeded or prepared in any way other than cut in half) and a green juice on the plate? My saffron rice was maybe 4 tablespoons of yellow mush. After waiting 1 hour for our food - it was lukewarm. I give grace to restaurants for accomodating large groups so maybe the service can be excused? But the food was so damn bad I felt compelled by higher powers to leave a review. If you take a look inside the restaurant, there is not a single smiling face staring down at their plate of $50 Chef Boyardee-level meal. Apparently the burger was ok. Wouldn’t recommend the trout, halibut, risotto, tomato soup, or anything else here. Waste of time and raw ingredients. Honestly had no idea that this place was a tourist trap. Hope this helps!
Worst experience of my life. The staff told us that our table would be ready in an hour. 1.5 hours later, they told us that they would not be able to seat us (after telling us multiple times that we would be seated soon). This was extremely unprofessional, and not only will we never dine here, we will never stay at the lodge again.
If we could give zero stars we would. After we were seated our waiter had zero knowledge of any bourbon selection that was available. He kept naming whiskeys (which is not bourbon) and off brands we have never heard of. He was extremely hard to understand. Instead of waiting for him to repeatedly walk to ask someone if they had what my husband was asking for bourbon wise we just said forget it and he stuck with water. I ordered the trout and it was dry with rice and asparagus that had absolutely zero flavor. I didn’t eat half of it. My husband ordered the sirloin and he asked for medium. No pink was seen throughout the steak and it was so dry…not even ketchup could help him choke it down. He ate less than half of his meal. When we said something to the server he took the plates away then came back with the check and asked my husband if he wanted a new steak. We just paid $120 for food that is worse than Applebees on a bad day. I spoke to the hostesses on the way out since they spoke fluent English. I asked if they really don’t have a bourbon selection. The guys said he had no idea. I said that we were very unhappy with our food. We were completely ignored and he and a girl just kept talking. The best part of the meal was the entertaining squirrels outside eating acorns. Please don’t waste your money!!
Service was terrible - and food was also. We had a female waitress (no name tags so we can’t figure out what her name was but she mentioned she’s a nomad that works around areas from Tahoe to Yosemite and climbs). Literally had the worst service of our entire time - could not do dressing on the side for a salad. Asked for no syrup in a mocktail (can’t do that either). Asked for ribs and was not available, only for the table next to us to get ribs. She gave us some excuse. This is absolutely unacceptable. YVL do better. Train your staff. Food was also really really sad for what you pay for. Go to the cafeteria next time.

Staff was super friendly and attentive! The food was so horrible. We went on a Sunday night and there were literally only 4 mains on the menu. The nachos were like bad microwave nachos, sad but edible. The black bean burger was atrocious. We've come here a bunch of times in the past and loved the pizza but I guess they aren't serving that anymore. The fire also wasn't going. Super bummed.
