Always a fun place to visit! Delicious food and friendly service. Love the atmosphere. Online reservations make it easy to schedule ahead. Nice variety of food.
Delicious espresso rubbed filet!
This is our second visit to Kaufman’s Tavern and we were not disappointed either time. Our first visit was for lunch and their Pastrami Reuben was very good. Our last visit was on a Sunday evening, for which we had a reservation. We had the scallops appetizer, which was very good. My wife ordered the crab stuffed Salmon, and asked that they make it gluten free, which they confirmed they could do. I ordered the NY Strip steak. After a short while, the manager Heather came out to tell us that their crab stuffing was from their crab cakes which weren’t gluten free. We asked if they could do anything to get the crab included with the meal. Heather was very nice and discussed it with the chef and they made it happen. My wife said it was perfect. We couldn’t have had a better meal. Thanks Heather!! I ordered the coconut cream pie to go and it was about half the size as I last received. Hoping this improves on our next visit! We certainly plan to return as we found several items on the menu we would like to try. It is a bit pricey, but it is a gem. We highly recommend it.
We came here for a double date night and absolutely loved it! Zelionople is such a cute small town, only about 30–40 minutes north of Pittsburgh, and Kaufman Tavern is the perfect spot to check out while you’re there. We started the night with their fall-themed drinks, which were not only delicious but also so fun and festive. For food, everything we ordered was great! The sandwiches were hearty, the fries were crisp and seasoned perfectly, and the steak was cooked to perfection. By the time the check came, we were all completely stuffed in the best way. The cozy vibes, great service, and small-town charm made this such a memorable night.
We absolutely loved our experiences at Kaufman's. The first visit we enjoyed some cocktails, the calamari, the lobster linguini, and the new Zealand rack of lamb. The second time we visited, we enjoyed the crab cakes, the lobster and mushroom risotto and, again, the new Zealand rack of lamb... All in all, the food was good. The calamari was slightly chewy, but the sauce they served with it was incredible; the crab cakes were out of this world.. We just needed more of the yummy sauce they served with it. The lobster linguini was heavy, but delicious; the lobster and mushroom risotto was good, but too much truffle oil was used. The rack of lamb was spectacular both times.. that mushroom risotto is so good. During our first visit we tried the cocktail on special...a spicy margarita, but it wasn't well thought out because the rim was coated in sugar and the sugar kept running down the outside of the glass making our fingers sticky anytime we took a sip. Otherwise, an awesome experience. Both times we enjoyed great service. The dining room is a bit dated, but it was nice. We will definitely visit again.
Warm and comfortable atmosphere. Good cocktails and food.
Had a very nice lunch with family. Waitress was excellent and attentive. She went out of the way to ensure an allergen was not present in our food. Great location and food. Will definitely return.
This will be my first 100 star ⭐️ review! The set list- by the owner of the Grateful Dead is my favorite feature ❤️ of this outstanding restaurant! The personality of Monica- our server was awesome! It’s so nice to have someone who is friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and fun. The food was hot, not too seasoned, fresh, and delicious! The decore and ambiance were stunning. So much to offer on the menus. This place is a gem in the heart of Zelie and such a great experience.
This place has recently become our monthly go-to, and potentially our favorite restaurant for special occasions. The food is amazing. Just simply amazing. My partner is Italian/American and I am Asian and somehow this place gives both of us the home-cooked meal vibe. The tasty smell of food, vintage yet cozy atmosphere, nice presentation, good service, can’t ask more. All appetizers that we have tried were AMAZING. Main dishes we have tried the salmon risotto, scallop risotto, lobster pasta, all very delicious. The scallop risotto was a little bit too salty last time I tried, but the scallops, ugh definitely worth the price!!! Definitely would go back and 100% would recommend. Not much on the desert menu and I’m just not very into stuff that’s too sweet or too sour, my partner seemed to enjoy most of them. I think I might try the after-meal coffee with alcohol or try the bar seats next time. This place is seated in a very cute neighborhood in Zelienople, so many nice vendors around and very lovely night scene at night. We drive from Pittsburgh here every time, and just walk around before or after eating.
I had the lobster omlet. It was very good. The restaurant was well lit. Service was good and food was tasty.
The mushroom pasta was absolutely delicious. They have a great selection of both cocktails and mocktails as well as beer and wine. They easily accommodated my vegan diet and their pasta is egg free! I had a lovely evening here.
First time dining here at this quaint restaurant with an amazing vibe! We got the corn and bacon risotto to share. It was delightful! For lunch I ordered the Cajun and brown sugar rubbed salmon. 🤩 It did not disappoint and for dessert we got the maple pecan blonde. It came out sizzling and boy was it ever tasty. Def stop by if you’re in the area!
The food is fresh, cooked perfectly, and a lot of stuff is sourced locally. Service was wonderful tonight, thank you Allison for doing such a great job serving my wife and I! We look forward to coming back!
Really love the ambience of the place very beautiful artwork very nice design. The renovations looked wonderful and the manager on duty Miss Kat was such a Wonderful breath of fresh air very nice and very professional and runs a very great crew would definitely recommend and come back
I'll admit I'm a newer local (arrived 4 years ago) having grown up in the South Hills, but reading some of these reviews - I can't say my experience is the same. We live within walking distance and have visited 4 times already since they opened, planning on brunch next weekend. This place is always jam packed as they're newly opened. If you don't enjoy crowds, then maybe you should wait until they've been open for some time or use Open Table and make yourself a reservation. The 4 times we've gone, only once was as a couple - the other two were parties of 4 & 6. We've been seated right away, during dinner hours on Friday and Saturday nights, with or without reservations. I'll agree, we've only been given bread one of the 4 times - that's something that can be improved on (but who wants to waste carbs on bread when the menu is so appealing?). The front desk and serving staff have otherwise been on point, friendly and capable for service and suggestions - despite learning a brand new restaurant and menu. For those complaining about cost, sure - you can go somewhere else and eat cheaper. If that's your complaint then I'd recommend that you do so - Burger King is down the street after all.... The owner and his brand (as we've experienced via Breakneck Tavern) is built on local, sustainable, fresh produce. You pay for what you eat, and I appreciate the opportunity to put less processed food on my plate. There are plenty of sandwich and salad options for under $15-20, or split some shareables with your friends if cost is truly a concern. Everything we've ordered has been prepared correctly and was consistently delicious. We've had a short wait on food two of the times, which is again to be expected for a completely new restaurant and staff: - Kaufman Sour - Steamed Pork & Rice Buns - Crispy Calamari - New Zealand Rack of Lamb - Hanger Steak - Southern Fried Chicken - Zelie Reuben - Cherry Cheesecake - Strawberry Shortcake Everything we've had - from drinks, apps, entrees to dessert - have been fresh, cooked as ordered, full of flavor and satisfying. Thank you for reopening a town landmark with such a high integrity establishment that we enjoy patronizing. Many birthday celebrations and date nights planned for the future - hoping the cigar bar and afternoon tea ideas take off, would love to visit those too!
I was just there to set up balloons for a shower but the staff was super nice and the atmosphere was wonderful! It's a beautiful place to host a party!
Took a dear friend out to lunch/dinner before we did a few things in the Zelienople area. We both ordered the same meal and enjoyed every bite. I like’a taking her to new places and watching her smile as we enjoy our environment there. Waitress was very polite and great sense of humor. Thank yinz’rs for a nice’a time! Roscoe
Recently visited. Dinner was excellent. Nice menu lots of choices. The brussel sprouts appetizer was amazing. Service was top notch and I would return on my next visit!
The Kaufman Tavern is fine dining north of Pgh. The smoked wings were amazing! Loved the sauces. The filet was a great cut and cooked to perfection! The crab cake was delicious! We will return again and again! Jason our server was a pro! Really this place is a gem!
Our meals were wonderful. The Lobster pasta and hand cut NY Strip were amazing. Katrina our lovely server was wonderful and talkative. Loved her colored pens. We are from Fla. but will be back.
We had a wonderful dinner this evening. We ate in the cellar for the first time ever. What a great experience. Our waiter was really amazing and very personable!!! Thank you!
I tried the Halibut this visit and it was great! Came with crispy fingerling potatoes and charred Brussel sprouts and garnished with sweet potato shavings. Everything went together so well! Excellent!
Very delicious foods here. Cocktail menu is great. Cheesecake for dessert is exceptional. Salmon was excellent. Parking lot in back is convenient.
Unexpectantly Awesome. We enjoyed the buttery pepper scallops recommended by the server and the shrimp grits. They have over 40 specialty beer varieties in stock. I had the Butler Brewing ipa which was great. All the deserts are made onsite. We enjoyed the crumb apple pie a la mode. Sharing the desert wasn't my best decision of the night. I should have gotten my own. This is an upscale restaurant but relaxed clothing requirements. We will be back. Proper cv19 protocols followed. We felt safe. Thank you Kaufman's for a great finish to our day.
Gorgeous place. Well redone! Everyone I talked to said the food was impeccable!!! The couple I'm sitting next to has 2 carry out boxes! The beer list is great and different and a beautiful selection of drinks. Corsair triple smoke whiskey is here 😊 Yep! I'm gonna be back!!! *I've been back a couple times since and LOVED every bit of it! I had the pleasure of speaking with the manager and she knows the menu like the back of her hand. The quality of the food is outstanding! What a cute date place even if it's by yourself!
First time there, tried brunch on a Sunday. Great service, delicious food and my bloody Mary was made with perfection. Historic feel, definitelya hidden gem up north. Will return to try patio dining. Great for a date night or visit with kids.
We had a delicious meal & tasty desserts. I ordered the chicken sandwich & my husband got lamb chops that were so good! The blonde brownie was fabulous 🤩
Had the pumpkin spice espresso martini and the pork chops. Both were excellent. I will definitely be looking forward to my next visit.
Wonderful time! Food was outta this world 🌎 and service was fantastic. We got the crab cakes and cheese charcuterie to start then the lobster mushroom risotto & pork chop special followed by Creme Brule and Bread pudding for dessert. All in all this was a delish and delightful fine dining experience! We shall return and encourage you to try
We sat at a high top table tonight the room and the view were a nice change from the dining room . We had the steak and enjoyed it but the blonde fo dessert was really good. We had Isabella as our waitress she was very attentive but all the waitresses there are very nice and easy to talk too.
Long standing great place for a quiet lunch in pleasant atmosphere. Food is great as in the past many years. Updates of restaurant with ease parking i. Back with entrance.
I dream about that mushroom burger. Everything was excellent. We had the cali creamin beer on tap, it was so smooth and very good. The chocolate dessert we had was so rich but I could’ve eaten the whole thing, it wasn’t the cake and it was gluten free but I can’t remember the name. WOW. Can’t wait to go back. Best meal dining out in a long time.
I had the very best steak EVER. The espresso rubbed filet. Husband has a great lobster roll. Others had a different steak but was awesome and someone else had halibut cooked to perfection.
Great NY strip and crispy shrimp. Nice tap list. Wait staff was attentive. Wife had Halibut and liked it. A friend had hanger steak poutine that looked delicious. Spent $146 for two people, including tip. Two entrees, one app and two beers. The building is an old character-filled building which is well maintained. We had a great time with friends. We will be back. This was my second time here. The first time was for a work luncheon and I had a good burger.
It was quite cold out the night we had dinner here. Our table was down in the wine cellar dinning room. However, it was very cool and uncomfortable. The waitress tried her best to get the heater to heat the room.
Delicious brunch on a Sunday morning. They were able to accommodate 4 adults and 2 infants with no wait without a reservation. The menu is short, so you know going in that everything on it is going to be good. Our group had the crab cakes Benedict, lobster omelet and spinach & mushroom omelet. All very good.
We have been to the beautiful Kaufman Tavern a couple times now and we’ve had Teri as our bartender, she makes the absolute BEST espresso martini I’ve ever had and I’ve had very many espresso martinis in my lifetime, her own personal recipe is the reason we keep coming back and bragging to everyone about her espresso martini, we can’t wait to bring our family and friends to try it out, she is always very delightful and sweet. Besides that, the atmosphere and ambiance are always on point!
My husband and I met for lunch and had an outstanding experience. Teri took great care of us and made sure that our gluten free needs were met. Thanks for having a GF bun!!! Food was delicious and atmosphere very cozy.
Unique food menu. Food was tasty and portions were ample. Good custom drink and local beer menu. Server and bartender were insightful. Been here before and will come again. Big plus - they are open on Monday
Food was great. Best shrimp and grits I've had north of North Carolina. Everything else the table had was great as well.
Great.gem of a place. Dining room needs an upgrade, circa 1960 currently. If ownership invested just a little, this place would be remarkable. Great food, drinks and service, just needs upgrades.
The first time trying I dined I may have rated at 4.5 stars. The appetizers are good. The dinners on the first visit were pretty good. The second visit, we were not as impressed with the dinners. Really more like a 3 stars. The desserts are decent, but the Coconut Cream pie is delicious and they have very good coffee. Both times we went the service was exceptional. The building is very cool. It can be a bit loud depending on which area you are seated.
The Kaufman Travern is a staple of Zelienople, PA. It's a longtime gathering place in a historic building/hotel. I'm a fan of any place with a selection of dessert wines. 🍷 The food to me wasn't that memorable, but I'd be willing to try it again. Possibly an alternative menu item or come for lunch. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm 'n cozy. Advise; Try a piece of history. Book a table online to avoid wait times. Parking in the rear. Port wine menu.
For the price, the food was not the greatest. Our server didn't check on us as much as we'd like, a few in our group never got a drink refill. Very cute restaurant, however.
Kaufman Tavern Review I was really looking forward to dining at Kaufman Tavern because it came highly recommended, but unfortunately this visit was a big disappointment. The service was somewhat okay, but the food was not to my liking at all. We ordered steak and asked very clearly for it to be cooked medium well, yet we had to send it back multiple times and they still did not make it correctly. I ordered the halibut, and it honestly felt rushed. The fish was bland and did not meet my expectations. I later asked if it normally came with a topping, which had been forgotten. When it was finally brought out, it was just a cold butter-like topping that completely ruined the dish. We arrived around 7:30 p.m. and asked for bread for the table. We were told they did not have any bread available. This really affected the experience because we were sitting there trying to enjoy our drinks with nothing to snack on, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable right from the start. Overall, it was a very poor dining experience, especially considering the restaurant was not even crowded at the time and closes at 9 p.m. While the manager did step in, compensates one of our meals and reduce the price for the steak due to the food being prepared incorrectly — which I do appreciate — customers shouldn’t have to go through this much just to receive a properly prepared meal. Sadly, this visit did not live up to the good reputation Kaufman Tavern seems to have.
Visited Late Sunday afternoon, after a movie. Ruben sand. was good, tho pretty low on meat. Burger was adequate. French fries were incredibly AWFUL: OVERCOOKED & BURNT & probably had been under a heat lamp. Any person from FRANCE would be appalled ! When we nicely mentioned it to our server, she replied that "most ppl. really like them.". Perhaps the menu could include some optional "sides", especially for ppl. who don't want deep-fried foods. Service was s..l..o..w.. The atmosphere/ambiance was very nice! We particularly liked the stained glass windows and appreciated the patriotic decorations on the fireplace mantels. Restrooms were clean.
Stop in for lunch the other day. Was not impressed. Very nice place but very slow. I had the calamari, and pull pork flat bread. The calamari was a very nice portion but they put very little sauce under on the plate, it was hot more like like warm and some kinda toping on it mad from spice and peppers that wasn't really that good. The flat bread was so hard I could even cut it and they brought that out hott as h*ll.
My girlfriend and I have came here many times and it was our favorite spot for a nice night out over the years. We just came tonight at 730 and the service was not good. They were out of a lot of stuff and our steaks were not cooked properly. No bread on table at all and the food took a long time with hardly anyone in the place. I hate to leave a bad review, but spending 200 dollars on a few drinks and dinner I expect it to be a good experience and meal and it was not. Highly disappointed as I recommend this place to all my coworkers and this is the first bad experience I’ve had, but at the price point I expect it to be well above average.
Terrible experience from top to bottom. Had a 10:30am Mother’s Day reservation and didn’t get seated until close to 11. Waiter came by with water, brought us coffee and took our order, then we never heard from him again. We sat around for over an hour as we watched people who were seated after us get their meals while we were forgotten about entirely. At one point, the waiter even stopped by and asked if we wanted a coffee refill, to which I said yes, and then never showed back up again. Eventually, we decided to pay for our drinks and leave, and as we walked to the car, the manager (I’m assuming) ran out and offered to comp our meals which had apparently just been completed, but we had already left and our <1 year old was restless, so the time had passed. It was just a bad experience overall. I’d love to comment on the food, but we never got it. I’d love to say something about the service, but it was awful. I’d love to say the manager stopped by when she was walking around the restaurant to see how we were doing and reassure us that our food was coming rather than catch us as we are already packed up and leaving, but that never happened. I’d love to tell you that I was able to give my wife a good Mother’s Day brunch experience, but alas, I can’t do that either. 0/5 stars.
Service was great! Thanks Bailey! Manager blamed the chef for a really bad beet salad with salmon. Just tell me you don’t have enough ingredients or don’t want to make it and I will order something else. I can’t believe they tried to pull that one off! Seriously?
