My favorite place to get any variety of eggs Benedict, I especially love the eggs black stone. The latte’s here are amazing depending on who is working. The staff are very friendly and greet you by name once you become a regular. This restaurant is one of the things I miss most about living in Oakland.
Our neighbor breakfast/lunch spot. It’s a cute and cozy cafe offering a very large menu. They’re always very busy but they have a ton of seating so if there is a wait, it’s not long. Staff is friendly and quick, always on their toes!
I really enjoy everything about the Egg Shop. Being a breakfast kinda guy, this is one of my top five go-to bfast joints. Really like the staff too, all very nice, albeit busy, people. The care and attention given here is top notch... Yum!
The food was really good, but a restaurant that pays that much attention to making a latte is really impressive. I normally hate restaurant coffee, but I was so pleasantly surprised with the quality of that latte. No wonder why this restaurant was so packed. Their attention to detail was impressive. The food we had was delicious and the right portion size too.
Montclair Egg Shop offers hearty, delicious breakfast and brunch classics in a warm, welcoming setting. It's a beloved neighborhood spot perfect for starting the day right.
Super cool set up, walking in and a o open kitchen, so cool. Greeted as soon as walked in and sat right down. Ordered our food and had it within minutes and it was delicious. I had the corned beef and hash, so yummy big cuts of beef and so flavorful and tender.
Staff was very friendly and offered tempting suggestions. Food arrived quickly and hot. Only thing was once we had been served, it was not the easiest getting our waitress’s attention for refills on drinks. There was no attentiveness once the food was delivered. But it was quick service for us and everyone around us. And once I was able to flag down a different server, she brought us refills. Other than that, it was a great experience.
We were promptly greeted and seated. The food was better than I originally anticipated. I had a spinach mushroom omelet with feta cheese. They offer a variety of mimosas and great coffee. Upon leaving the waitstaff & kitchen thanked for dining with them. I'll definitely go again.
Came to Montclair egg shop for the first time and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the chorizo scramble. The eggs were cooked perfectly with the right amount of spice to it. My server Kathy was very attentive and made sure the coffee kept coming. The coffee was actually piping hot yall and strong. Not watered down and Luke warm. I will definitely be back here. So far my favorite breakfast spot in the oakland area.
The staff is top notch and the food is great.
Excellent breakfast spot favored by locals. This is a regular place for my family. We visit almost every week. The eggs Benedict are especially good, but you can't go wrong with their menu. Service is consistently good and the wait staff is very friendly. Prices are reasonable. If you go before 9:30, then you shouldn't have a problem getting a table.
I've been coming here since I was literally in the womb. (20 years of memories!) The food is consistently great. Corned beef hash, eggs benedict, Belgian waffle, French toast, and sweet crepes are reliable choices. Omelettes are highly customizable, their juices are delicious, and their mimosas are like glasses of champagne with a hint of juice, making them perfect for a breakfast date!
Simply THE best. I've been going there for almost 40 years and I've never had a bad experience in any way there. Super friendly long term staff. Before you sit down there already pouring you coffee and everything is done perfectly well and super quick if you're in a hurry. It's very nostalgic for our family because the kids remember when the BART model train on the wall used to convey back and forth. The food is always delicious! And the coffee is excellent. Peet's I think. Two thumbs up!
Love the food and service! Although my favorite dish, crab crepe, was no longer on the menu.
We recently came here after our Aunt's suggested the place. It was our second visit and it was just as good as the first. If you come here on a weekend you should expect there to be a bit of a wait. The waiting area is small but there is a coffee shop around the corner. After a quick wait though, the food is worth it. The staff was very friendly and attentive here. They even accommodated some requests we had that were out of the ordinary. The food was great. I had one of the egg scrambles (since the place has egg in the name!) and I was very impressed. They serve fresh ingredients and high quality food. It's a great breakfast place in Oakland to check out if you're in the area. PS: Parking in this area is a bit limited.
First time here. Staff are very helpful and the food is wonderful. I had the strawberry and banana crepes which were delicious with a side of bacon and the house potatoes. Ate the whole thing. Very satisfying and I left full. Orange juice was fresh too. Highly recommend
Cozy and welcoming environment in which to enjoy some classic American breakfasts. Good coffee, too. This place represents the great California weekend breakfast spot when you just *need* eggs, you know what I mean? It's Montclair, though, so it's a little "spendy."
Fantastic service, wonderful staff, very patient with our kids (we had two 2 y/os and a 5 y/o in our party of seven), food came very quickly and was nice and hot. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. Charming environment all around! We came at 9:30 on a Sunday and our way was about 20 minutes for our party of seven. Definitely recommend this place! Rare to find a brunch place that's so good with kids and really nice to see all ages around the room.
Great popular place for breakfast. Strong Peet's coffee to get you going into your day. Loved the railroad theme inside. Food arrived pretty quickly, Eggs Florentine in the picture for my wife and I got the Huevos Rancheros, which didn't taste quite like the real Mexican ones because of the sauce but they were okay.
Nice groovy breakf as st spot. Pretty much the only breakfast place in Montclair. It is obviously very hip and people love to go there because there was a huge group of people standing outside waiting when we came. We ate there on a Saturday and are from out of town. I learned the hard way that you're supposed to go up to the counter and write your own name if the guy isn't there on the list. I failed to do this and somebody just walked right past me grabbed the list and wrote their name and I therefore ended up lower on the list. Even though there were 10 people ahead of me on the list it only took about 25 minutes to get in. The food was excellent and I had the corned beef hash. My wife ate some kind of Mexican omelette and she enjoyed it very much. The wait staff was excellent and extremely friendly. The cost was reasonable definitely better than San Francisco proper. Oh I forgot to mention the coffee was absolutely delicious and very strong. The bathroom was super nice too.
Great local spot. We took our 13 month old daughter and it was a huge hit. We each had the custom omelette, must say the smoked salmon was delicious. Everyone was smiling and they took great care of us. It gets busy, so do yourself a favor and check in ahead of time on yelp. Parking was on the street and easy enough to find. Thanks for the great breakfast!
I have always loved this spot, and they continue to please with great food, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. The staff are wearing masks right now, and there is nice outdoor seating available in their new parklet, but you can opt to sit inside as well. I highly recommend this spot!
Came for a week to Oakland and we have been here 4 times. We love the atmosphere, my kids love their food which is a huge plus for us. Food is great. And perfect food for everyone. And it's easy. Service is also great and people are wonderful here.
Cute little spot. Busy (always a good sign); despite the constant flow of customers, service was incredibly quick and great! Staff seemed like they really worked as a team (everyone was helping each other out) which was awesome to see. Maria (our server) was very kind and checked up on us frequently. My photography doesn’t do the food justice: the salmon scramble was insanely good. Their homemade apricot jam is a must-try. Coffee fresh and tasty. We stopped in on a visit from NY, but I wish we lived closer - this place would be a regular haunt of ours if we did!
The reservation process at this place was convenient and efficient. They notified me in advance when my table was ready. Since it’s located in a trendy part of town, we took a leisurely stroll for about 10 minutes until we were just two parties away on the app. Upon our arrival, we were seated promptly, and coffee and water were served right away. The waitress was very attentive, checking on us several times during our meal to see if we needed anything. I ordered two eggs cooked my way, along with apple chicken sausage, and topped it off with loaded oatmeal. Both dishes were prepared perfectly. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely return.
We ate here just this past sunday and our server Kathy was great. She catered to our (many) needs and was very timely! The atmosphere was calm and friendly, all the staff seemed to be in good spirits and were very helpful. The food was so good and felt very homey<3 lastly, if you plan to go you HAVE to try their apple juice, sweet cheese crepes, and table jam! All so good.
Consistently holding it down for the classic breakfast crowd in the east bay, The Egg Shop is practically a throwback at this point, serving totally reliable breakfast options, as well as their signature sandwiches, they also happen to be a place that does a good eggs Benedict, with a just barely tangy Hollandaise sauce with just the right consistency. Also good is their strong espresso drinks, made just a bit stronger than your local McCoffee. Recommended if you are in the neighborhood!
100% would recommend! Friendly staff, timely service. The best dishes are the potato pancakes, chorizo scramble and club sandwich
Cute little breakfast spot. Was here visiting family and stopped for breakfast before my flight home. Wait was about 10-15 min for table on Sunday morning at 10. Food came out pretty quick. I had potato pancake with scrambled eggs. Was very good. We also had Belgian waffle which was good. Bill for 3 breakfasts/coffees was slightly over $50. They have outdoor seating as well. Would definitely return here.
We went on a breakfast adventure this morning and what a treat!! This place was so great in every way. The inside is beautiful and lively. Some might think it's loud but we loved it. Maria was our server and she was so SO kind and helpful. She also gave us some tips for the next time we came back. The food was delicious and we left full and happy! We will absolutely be back. Thank you again Maria!!!
i came here with my family for sunday breakfast. we were a party of 10 and melanie (hopefully i’m spelling her name correctly) provided amazing service! thank you so much for taking care of my family with such patience and ease. also, food is amazing, especially the belgian waffle!
Maria was simply amazing! Her attentiveness to service made for an awesome brunch with friends as we all walked away happy with the meal. Thankfully the kitchen did not let her down and her promises were true, with a big smile.
This is a great family-friendly restaurant. Kids of all ages can be comfortable, with high chairs for those who need them, and a few interesting items such as trains on the walls. It is a go-to for us when hosting grandparents from out of town. The menu features all the classic favorites, plus amazing chilaquiles, french toast, and hearty scrambles.
Beautiful breakfast/brunch spot in the hills of Oakland. Highly recommend sitting at one of their window tables. The service was very hospitable and the food was very flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend if you’re in the area during breakfast/lunch time.
I’ve known about this place for years, just never thought much about going. Mainly because on the weekends, it is indeed crowded. However, myself and my dining companion got there just about 10:15 on Sunday morning. The place was busy! We got seated immediately! Glad we did! While we were there eating, it started to fill up with a lot with larger groups of folks waiting for tables. My companion had the Chilaquiles, which didn’t look like any Chilaquiles that I’m familiar with, having been to Mexico many times, but he thought they were good! I got the corned beef hash with two poached eggs. Very tasty. The server was surprised how fast we ate! We laughed and told her we’re both from big families, so we’re used to eating quickly. Plus, we’re not the type to linger, unless we’ve had cocktails or wine. Would recommend. Just be prepared to wait if there’s more than two of you on the weekends.
Such a lovely and charming place! The atmosphere was unique and cozy — perfect for a relaxing brunch. The food was tasty and well-prepared, but the portions were a bit small and quite average overall. I really enjoyed the experience, especially the ambiance, but I wish the meals had been a bit more filling. Still, it’s a nice spot for a casual outing or a light brunch.
This place is great! The food was delicious, the staff was great, and the venue was really nice. The Blackstone Benedict was my favorite. It was an egg’s Benedict with bacon. They are so good at marking breakfast items here. The waffles and omelets were also delish! The only downside was the restaurant had only one bathroom so there would sometimes be a wait to get in.
There are not enough stars to rate this place! The food and the staff make it worth the long wait. I have been back already since my first visit. I don’t think there’s one item in the menu that can let you down. I’m a repeated guest because of the perfect buttermilk pancakes they make. Note: they only serve them M-F I have also tried their memorable potato pancake, crispy, savory goodness!! And today I had blueberry pancakes and the most delicious thin and crispy bacon with eggs. The coffee is pretty good, and that is hard to find. And I have to write about the staff. Both times I got the great luck to have Mrs Maria as my server. She’s super professional and if you smile, she’s warm and very kind. She makes sure you have everything you need and gives you all the time to enjoy it! 🌻 Everyone working the floor is highly attentive and you never need to look for them to ask for more coffee or water because they make sure to anticipate your needs 🙏🏾 And today I got to thank Mr Cruz Garcia and Mr Roberto, they were cooking nonstop with so much grace. Pancake making is an art! You really need to have the perfect batter and temperature to have a fluffy, cooked-not dry pancake that steams when you cut it through. Prices are reasonable for the Bay Area. And you won’t mind tipping properly.
I’ve been wanting to come back to this spot since moving back to the Oakland Hills, but waiting for an hour on the weekends is not an option with two 4 y/o kids. Luckily, Monday was the day! I brought a friend and his fiance here for breakfast before they left town… I can say the service is very friendly and very quick. Coffee is always being topped up and the food comes quick after ordering. For the food, I ordered the Chorizo Scramble and it was exactly what I was craving for! This super casual breakfast/brunch/lunch spot is the spot in Montclair Village!
The Montclair Egg Shop is a gem in the heart of Montclair Village, offering a delightful breakfast and brunch experience that never disappoints. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The menu at the Montclair Egg Shop is extensive and creative, catering to all tastes and dietary preferences. Whether you're in the mood for classic breakfast staples like fluffy pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs or something more adventurous like their unique omelets and benedicts, there's something for everyone. The quality of the food is exceptional, made with fresh ingredients and served in generous portions. One of the highlights of my visit was the friendly and attentive service. The staff were quick to accommodate special requests and always had a smile on their faces, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Their recommendations were spot-on, and it was clear they take pride in what they do. The Montclair Egg Shop has been a staple of the community for 50 years, and its popularity for brunch is well-deserved. Be prepared for a wait during peak hours, but rest assured it's worth it. Overall, the Montclair Egg Shop is a must-visit for breakfast or brunch lovers. The combination of delicious food, welcoming ambiance, and excellent service makes it a standout choice in the area. I can't wait to return and try more of their mouthwatering dishes.
We stopped by at the egg shop for brunch for the first time . I’ve heard about this place but we got to chance now to check it out . It’s gets busy but there is not a long wait . The staff is nice and fast ! The food is pretty good , it actually taste better than it looks :) plenary of indoor and outdoor seating . You can use yelp to check in ! Would come back
Predictably good food, but very noisy. Had trouble conversing with my guest without adding to the nose! Outdoor seating was not available when we visited.
Got REALLY lucky and found a parking spot three spaces up the street.. that is a BIG deal! The waffles with strawberries and whipped cream were to die for! Excellent potatoes! I just love the atmosphere.. got fixated on watching the aerial tram. 😄
Darling place for brunch. Sister and I tried it out after a hike in the redwoods nearby. Wholesome ingredients and lovely service. Great brunch a little heavy on the greens on the breakfast tacos. Poached eggs were perfectly cooked. Parking was within a few block which was nice so we could browse all the shops.
Great place in the beautiful Montclair area. Food came out fast and was good. Pancakes were good but a little dry. My daughters French toast was burnt but she still enjoyed it lol she’s a toddler. Our server was AMAZING couldn’t get his name but he was great. Idk if I would go back but it’s somewhere I’d been wanting to try.
There is usually a wait, and so far It's never been a disappointment. This was my first visit here in 8~10 years and it was just like I remembered it (except the clowns and trains were turned off). We had the eggs Benedict, potato pancakes, and french toast. I think my Benedict was good, in a tie for my favorite with another breakfast place I like, and the french toast was really good. The thing that really hit it out of the part was the potato pancakes. They had cheese, onion, and some thin slices of ham. After my wife shared a bite of the dish I almost stole it from her,. There is no doubt in my mind that I'm going to order the potato pancakes in the future. I'm also happy with the coffee. They serve Peet's, and brew it up like they recommend and don't try to cut corners. I hate it when people water down their coffee, and this was good, hot, and fresh. Finally, the bathroom is clean with a nice touch free sink and air blown hand dryer. I always judge a place by its bathroom (goes to customer service and caring about the place).
The menu looks delicious . The only bummer is the potato pancakes come with ham in them and you cannot order them without. Jewish people don't eat ham. Why would you add ham to latkes?
Came back to Montclair Egg Shop for the second time, and it was just as good as I remembered. The food is super tasty, nothing fancy in terms of presentation, but the flavors definitely make up for it. What really stands out is the service. Everyone is so friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back again!
Came by on a Sunday with a 20 min wait roughly at 10 AM. Moving gondolas and train models decorate the restaurant. The corn beef hash is legit!! Unfortunately my poached eggs were over cooked. The bloody Mary is super good too. Balanced spice with the mix of vodka and sake. I would definitely come back next time I'm in the Piedmont area.
They would’ve gotten five stars but they are understaffed, especially the hostess. She was running around seating people, setting utensils and processing card payments. On a busy Sunday they should have these jobs separated. On to the positives. The food is really good. Very fresh and clean tasting. We didn’t feel super stuffed afterwards, we were still able to go about our day. I ordered the eggs Florentine and wife ordered one of the veggie omelets. They were both very good.
This place is cozy, even has a little fire place. The food is fresh and plentiful. I ordered bagel, lox and cream cheese which came with lots of veggie sides. One thing, please spread the cream cheese on the bagel instead of offering a dollop on the side. I had to build my own sandwich, which I can do at home. Thanks!
Came here on a whim with my bestie who lives in Oakland. We actually walked here from her house. The restaurant was in a cozy shopping area of Montclair. Lots of busy patriots all in the area, shopping and lining up to be seating for their fave restaurant. There is only all street parking so good luck. We waited about 30 plus min. It's easier and faster wait with only two people. The restaurant itself is small and not many large tables for groups. We both ordered their crab Benedict. It was pretty good. Decent price. Didn't get to try other things but wouldn't mind coming back to try other dishes. This is only open for brunch hours only. Service was very friendly and attentive. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. I won't mind coming back if in the area.
Too loud! Food was okay but not very good considering how long they've been there. Maybe they've gotten complacent; why should we try when people keep coming?
I’m on a mission to write accurate reviews about the places I visit. There was a long line but I was quickly seated. Service was great. Honestly, the food was very mediocre.
Cute environment. Quality ingredients generally, but mostly basic options and I almost always leave hungry. Great breakfast tacos (though not filling without adding protein for extra $$). I love their sweet crepe and my kids love their waffles. But, dang, it's the only place I go that I need to go feed myself again pretty soon after!
The place has okay food. Nothing special and very bland flavors. You are going to need to season your food with salt, pepper, and lots of heat. But the general ingredients are of decent quality.
Really disappointed with this place. We had to wait over 40 minutes for a table, so I thought it was gonna be THE experience. However food was so disappointing, really plan, nothing special, small portions and a hot chocolate in a glass imposible to hold without burning yourself.
I gave this place 3 stars because of the omelets. However the service was slow (I came by 9am on a Thursday). The potatoes and bacon tasted as if it was sitting out all day. We never got refills because the waitress seemed overwhelmed. The Belgian waffle was cold(had to tell them to make another one)
I really wanted to like this place, but it was unfortunately pretty disappointing. Great ambiance, but the food fell flat. I ordered the corned beef hash. It came out super oily, with little structure. More like a weak Chinese stir fry than corned beef. It was topped with overcooked poached eggs and damp sourdough toast (of course it’s going to steam if you just leave it on top of the hot hash!) The food tasted as if they made a big batch and just left it on the grill until they had to reheat it. Looking at the other reviews, you’ll see that this is a common theme. Service was not very friendly either. I would like to see this place improve.
I’ve been to this place twice and always got the pesto crepe. The first time, the filling was a bit more generous. The taste was okay, but it wasn’t exactly mind-blowing. I went back with some friends a few weeks ago, and the filling was about 15% less than the last time I had it, which was around 2-3 months ago. Overall, I’d give it a 6/10, especially since you have to wait a bit during brunch hours on the weekends.
Mediocre breakfast food at high-end prices. I paid over $20 for a dry tasteless crepe (added chicken, but barely any chicken), and nearly $20 for a very basic eggs Benedict that uses a Costco brand English muffin (Thomas Original). Side of fruit tastes like it had been frozen and thawed, with browned apples. Small portions. My wife and I left still hungry, after paying $50.
Wednesday lunch time. Quite busy and seemingly understaffed. I ordered corned beef hash with pouched eggs. 1. Came barely warm 2. Oversalted 3. Eggs were overcooked 4. Potato and beef were dry What else to say here? Another "meh" place 😕
Meh.. it was ok. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I won't be back. I've only been once. I got the crab cake eggs Benedict. The English muffin was nothing special, eggs didn't have a runny yolk, crab cakes tasted very generic, and the sauce was pretty bland. Their home fries aren't crispy so we asked for them crispy, only one side (of some of them) had any crisp. Overall it was pretty bland and not very enjoyable. My friend had the crepes, he said it was decent, kinda bland. The bacon was of medium quality. The service was ok, servers were nice, but not very attentive. Also the outside tables weren't bussed after people left for a long time and some of their trash blew away onto the street. I had to go inside to ask for a check because no one came out to check on us.
Friday morning, there at opening for 2 people. For breakfast and a meeting. At 9, the manager came up and asked us to leave, since he had a need for the table, and the wait line was growing. I thought it odd, never been asked to leave, especially when we ordered a full breakfast as well. After paying the check, I went to use the bathroom, and realized there were at least SIX empty 4 tops scattered throughout the restaurant. I spoke with the manager, asked him if this was common to ask patrons to leave after 1 hour and a full meal. And he said that eventhough there was NO apparent wait, he wanted to keep the house moving. So the obvious question, why don't they tell people that when they come in, or write it somewhere. Why a 2 star and not a 1 star? Because the service was pretty good, and the food was decent.
Unimpressed. They didn’t even bother to come out to the sidewalk were everyone was waiting to call our party, and then acted all indignant “we texted you 10 minutes ago, we almost gave your table away” Sorry, must’ve been in a service dead spot. The interior was clean, but looked in serious need of some love. Neither the trains nor the grandfather clock run anymore. Visible clutter all over the second floor balcony gave a rundown feel, and only one restroom for both genders guaranteed a long wait. I specifically asked my server if the Eggs Juneau was good. He said “everything here is good” so I ordered it. He didn’t remember who had ordered what when he brought the food back. The Eggs Juneau was NOT GOOD. One of the two English muffins was really burnt, and the smoked salmon wasn’t thin slices like you would expect, just random chunks/cubes, and not much of it. Worst of all it didn’t taste fresh, which is likely the cause of my upset stomach as I type this an hour later. It was a family brunch to celebrate my recent birthday, so I didn’t want to spoil it by complaining while there, but you, dear reader should know that this place has apparently gone down hill.
OK, so we waited a really long time to get in here they are always packed! You definitely need to get on the waitlist to get in which we did, and we were slightly underwhelmed. The food was just OK. Service was great and it was very lively inside, but definitely not where I would choose to go for breakfast again.
I was sooooo disappointed. I ordered a club sandwich, and as I was about to eat my second piece, I noticed there was something red on the bread. It looked like jam or berry juice. Whoever prepared my sandwich used a knife that wasn't properly cleaned in-between use. They did take ot off my bill, but I won't be going back.
The host accepting the customers (on 26th Dec 2024) was rude and yelled at us when we asked him questions of the wait time. He seated customers that arrived after us before he seated us. Very poor communication and discriminatory behavior. They've lost a regular customer.
Rude host and wait staff. They told us to use a QR code to join the waitlist and told us they had no alternative options. However this didn’t work and they then proceeded to just take our name down. Not sure why they couldn’t just do this originally. It took an extremely long time for them to take our order and then bring our food. When the food was brought out the french toast was raw and the bacon was ice cold. The french toast was ok after being remade but still not worth the price. Overall quality has really gone downhill.
