Superior Grill - Highland

I had to try this place because the Superior on Government has never disappointed me. I’m excited to say that Highland exceeded my expectations of being as good as Superior Grill on Government. The Lunch Crazy Javier (Medium Rare) With Vegetables is a Filet Steak which could possibly be the best steak I’ve eaten. It’s extremely hard to think of anywhere I’ve eaten in the country that compares. Kudos to you Superior Team!

Ate here for the first time for a business lunch. our server was polite friendly and attentive. She was always there when needed to be. Our chips and drinks were kept refilled at all times. Chips and salsa are complementary we also ordered guacamole and two different types of cheese dip. Everything tasted wonderful it was pretty perfect and nothing was oversalted which I seem to find is a problem here in Louisiana. I personally had the brisket street tacos. I chose them a-la cart instead of with the sides so I had three tacos and it was a perfect portion. Several of our party enjoyed the Margaritas and they will make them special to your liking. Our meeting ran long and we were never rushed at any point. The server remained attentive even though we had closed out our check. We placed a to go order to take home to the kids.

Food was good, service was good as well. Atmosphere in this place is pretty nice. Good place for dinner or lunch. We had chicken fajita which was good. Overall good place. Will recommend this place for a date or a night out with friends.

Stopped through on the way to our destination and was craving spinach enchiladas. Fortunately, they were open until 11 so we were able to make it in time. The spinach enchiladas with rice and beans and spinach quesadillas were delicious!!!! I mean wow! I was standing at the smaller bar and 3 people saw me looking clueless and didn’t help me. One girl who was clocking out asked if I needed help and directed me to the larger bar to pick up the to go order (she saved them a star). The bar tender was very pleasant and a great salesman. Got me to get a $15 margarita to go. When I saw the receipt I felt it was overpriced, but the amount of food received with all the fixings and the family style container made me feel like I definitely got my money’s worth from the extraordinary food and portions provided. I would definitely return to enjoy the lovely, clean atmosphere!

Great food (I had the street tacos), great server (knowledgeable about menu, super friendly, quick service), and yummy margaritas (I had the sangria swirl). I went for the queso, had an amazing time with my husband and friends, and celebrated my birthday with a complementary dessert (with sparklers). Great atmosphere!!

I feel so shameful. A friend brought me here for lunch and I returned the next two days as well since I was working in the area. The mitzu bowl with brisket is just lovely. The vinaigrette on the side is amazing too, so I pour a little bit of that in the bowl along with the salsa provided and oh my, so many wonderful flavors satisfying my palette. The margaritas are good, but absurdly expensive. Haven’t seen anything quite like that actually, but it is what it is. Yes, I’ll be back for the bowl again. Sorry - didn’t get food before pics.

I have been going to Superior Grill for years and trust me when I say it is always consistent and good food and this is every location in Louisiana! The margaritas are always good and if you’re not into margaritas, the iced tea is always really good too!! Highly recommend!!

If you are looking for the VERY BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT in Baton Rouge or really in the Country then look no further!!!! Superior Grill is amazing! The food is so fresh and delicious. It’s served on pretty tables with white table clothes. And it’s plentiful.... I chicken and I can’t remember the name but it’s amazing!!! Hubby got steak both of ours is covered in a creamy spinach sauce that is delicious! Both of our meals comes with sides I got the chicken fajitas soup... again the best ever and hubby got rice and beans. They have margaritas that are so delicious but not do they have a kick to them! My sister and I got one and I drank my whole one and my sis only drank half and was laughing. But the margaritas is very good! Kinda expensive but you only need one... they cost around $14. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge!!!

Great authentic Tex/Mex food and drinks and excellent service! The amazing smell of mesquite grilled chicken and steak fills the authentic-looking restaurant! The atmosphere and ambiance of this place is every bit as wonderful as the food! The other location on Government Street in the Mid-City neighborhood is just a fantastic! Give this place a try! You'll be sure to love it! Five stars all the way!

This place is busy! Great vibe - spacious with good places to sit indoor and outdoor. Cool bar & decor. Broad selection of traditional Mexican food - good chips/salsa/queso. Several larger rooms for private events. Service is quick and prices are reasonable.

Fantastic food! A bit loud in there. They portion is ginormous! But delicious. I had the Los Tres Amigos Fajitas, the one with steak, shrimp, and chicken, and rice and beans (some of the best beans I ever had), and guac, oh so much food! The salsa was also fantastic!

The patio gets loud, but it was nice. The service was impeccable. These were leftovers I was more than happy to bring home!

Outstanding food. Great service. Overall a Five Star restaurant. Our waitress was outstanding. She was very attentive and very knowledgeable of the restaurants menu. Our entrées all came out literally smoking. The food were seasoned perfectly and prepared just like each of us ordered.

I ordered tacos and omg they were absolutely delicious! The waiter was extremely nice and helped us customize our orders due to some in my party being allergic to certain foods. Food 10/10 service 10/10 extremely clean bathrooms as well, hand sanitizer, masked waiters, bar area, easy to read menu, great coffee too!

The food was great. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful in deciding what was good. There were televisions all around to watch football, soccer and basketball while dining. It's a great place.

Highly recommended. What a great place for an awesome margarita (get their special tahini on the rim), old fashion (fantastic bourbon selection) And any other drink that you may want. Food was amazing, we got fajitas and they were out of this world. I’ll definitely go back.

Normally I don't drive this far out for dinner. I work on Baton Rouge, but live in Livingston Parish. So this place is a bit of a trek, but I got a giftcard from work for Christmas. So off me n the kiddos go. This was well worth the drive out and back. Good food, excellent staff, great atmosphere. If it weren't nearly an hour drive from home I'd love to come more often.

Fantastic Food, Atmosphere, and Happy Hour! Had a wonderful dinner at Superior Grill on Highland Rd recently. The food was outstanding, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The fajitas were sizzling and packed with taste, and the margaritas were some of the best I’ve had in Baton Rouge. The atmosphere was lively but still comfortable for conversation, and the service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly, making sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. We also enjoyed their happy hour it’s a great deal and makes the experience even better! If you’re looking for authentic Tex-Mex with great vibes, Superior Grill is the place to go. Highly recommend for both casual dinners and special nights out!

BEST Mexican you will ever try in your LIFE. Service there is great. Food time is about 10-15 min. Go there 3 times a month!!

An excellent experience! We enjoyed the Vaca Tapada and the Pollo Tapado. Both dishes were excellently prepared and seasoned. They were served with tortillas, Pico de Gallo, sour cream and guacamole. The happy hour margaritas were delicious too! Service was prompt and accurate. We also had the sopapillia for dessert. The perfect amount of sweetness!

I made reservations for 4:45pm, and arrived at 4:00. I had requested outside seating in the pet-friendly area. We were seated promptly in the area, and they actually brought a bowl of water for our pet! The food was outstanding, and they even a special request from one our guests to change the sauce to a less spicy sauce. The beverages were great! It was 85.00 and I thought it was great and it was reasonable for the great experience for 3 of us.

I came in around 3 p.m. for a late lunch. I sat on the patio because the weather was too nice not to enjoy. It wasn't long until Ashton, my server, greeted me. Her service was wonderful! She was attentive, kind, and very welcoming. She also got my order 100% correct (when i told her i didn't want pico, she made sure to ask if i wanted the jalapeños and guac as well. It rarely happens when a server anticipates my needs like that. Thank you, Ashton!) Request to sit with her the next time you go in! If servers could get paid more than their $2.13/hour wage, I would demand Ashton to get a raise. So... TIP HER MORE THAN 25%, y'all! I wanted enough food to eat lunch and have enough left over to bring home; I got the grande chicken chimichangas and a small queso. Wanna make it slap? Ask for a side of the "house dressing" for your chimis! I order it everytime I come here, and it never disappoints.

Had a wonderful time tonight, March 25th. Atmosphere was just absolutely perfect, our server (Alex B.) Was exceptionally awesome and attentive. We will personally ask for him upon arrival, and willing to wait to be seated if needed. He knows the menu if you're feeling a little undecided. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and everyone including staff were very kind and welcoming. To top my night off, I had the opportunity to visit with one of my students and his mother. My husband could've picked a better date night!

The entire staff was friendly. They helped each other out getting things to and from their customers with a smile. Kelsey and the rest of the team did a great job.

Our food was excellent. The queso with meat and chips was so good. I’m not a fan of cilantro and the salsa has a very heavy taste of cilantro so it wasn’t my favorite. If you like cilantro you may like it. I had the Lettuce Wrap Tacos. Grilled shrimp, vegetables, fresh avocado and Mexican rice. Served with your choice of refried beans or soup. The flavors of the shrimp, vegetables, and sauce were excellent! Other order was beef fajitas which were delicious as well! The server was very nice and attentive. We didn’t have to wait long after we placed our order. I personally think the food is a little pricey for the ingredients but it is good.

Post graduation meal and celebration. After attending premed graduation at the P Mac... we had reservations for 8pm... our server was patiently considerate considering the size of our party. Drinks appetizers and food ... excellent escape and ac was perfect too...

Wow, probably one of my favorite restaurants in BR! The food was fantastic, a mix of smokiness and Mexican flavors. I was impressed at the large selection of menu items. The happy hour also runs on weekends which was awesome - large margs for the price of a small. We came here for my husbands birthday and our server did a fantastic job. It was busy but we were not waiting for him at any time. The atmosphere was fun and exciting. Truly a great place to get some high quality, good tasting Mexican food. We will definitely be coming back!

As a tex-mex person from Houston the food was okay but the margaritas were worth the hype! Very pricey but I went during happy hour so the drink price made up for the food. If you want a great cold frozen marg this is the place to go!

I am new to Baton Rouge and have lived here for the last six months or so. I am single and eat out often. Without a doubt this Superior Highland is the best managed restaurant that I have ever been to. The food is good, atmosphere is great the bartenders are great. I am very impressed with this place. The Superior is actually superior to every other place that I have been to in BR. I will definately go back to this place. It was so much fun. I spent about 3 hour there and all the employees were super nice to me. Made me feel at home. Wow, it is so nice to be able to brag about a place. Please keep up the good work and remain Superior.

I come from Houston. It's pretty much the best place in town that's even comparable to Houston mexican food. That being said, salsa is disappointing, but margaritas and food are on point. Service staff always friendly.

It was a full house but the service was top tier and was served in a reasonable time of ordering and everything was delicious!

They have really great food ans excellent service. The atmosphere was pretty loud, there were birthday celebrations here and there with a lot of people on their tables. It was impressive for the staff to do those tables and still be able to manage our table of two! Drinks were perfect, food was really good. It's a good place to go with kids or only adults! Recommend it 100%.

I visited this location in baton rouge on a weekend, the server we had tonight was very attentive and it's rare to have someone that genuinely cares about their job... 100% will be returning here and will be asking for Shannon next time!

The puff taco was the best I've ever had, and the frozen French 75 was amazing!

Staff was extremely friendly and service was phenomenal. They helped me surprise my mom on her birthday and it will be a day we never forget! The manager was kind, professional, and awesome. We had Michael as our server and he was just as great as everyone else we met. Michael took great care of our family and it turns out he is a big Messi fan just like my mom. The drinks, food, and atmosphere were a vibe. Shoutout to everyone working 7/18. Y’all are the best! 10/10 recommend Superior 🥰

We put them in an awkward situation on a busy night, my father in law was unable to sit in the inside main dining room due to a flare of his tinnitus and despite a packed house they accommodated us with a quiet table and great service. My son and family enjoyed his birthday dinner immensely. Always top service and the food quality is excellent and consistent.

This was a return visit and the food quality and consistency remain outstanding !!! This comment is for both general seating and special events. And this was the second time it was for a private event in their event room. The service was prompt, professional and frequent enough that we never needed to call for service, but we also were not interrupted as well. There were two primary servers who seemed to work well together. Example: Even though I was picking up four people for my check, and we were not all seated together, they were able to give me the correct billing without a fuss or mistake. A friend recommended the steak fajitas saying it would be the best steak I could get in Baton Rouge. He was correct! The steak portion was cooked to perfection. The only difference between me getting a steak at my favorite steak restaurant and this fajita was pre cut into strips. The tenderness and juiciness made it so flavorful. Unfortunately because of the event activities I forgot to take the picture of my meal. The room is a bit narrow but had enough room that I was able to excuse myself to go to the conveniently located restroom without having to disturb anyone else. Great place for Graduation and Birthday Celebrations. Which was what the two events I attended in this room. Surprisingly enough evening with about 30 guests it was quiet enough to hold a conversation with those at my table. And during the toast, etc. The person speaking from the middle of the room was easily heard by all without having to shout. And that was even without me having my hearing aids. The servers answered questions about the menu, and took our jokes well. Making it feel as if we were regular customers. Which if close enough I would be a regular customer. And I was pleasantly surprised when I received the check. For the food, service and atmosphere it was a rather nice surprise. I was expecting much higher! The servers benefited from the lower than expected and Superior Food & Service. Hey, come to think about it, it is aptly named Superior Grill!

Worth the wait! Or better yet, make a reservation in advance. Awesome menu, fast and friendly service, great margaritas. Fun, festive atmosphere with lots of dining areas inside and outside. The chips and salsa are terrific, and the homemade corn tortillas are delicious with everything from tacos to enchiladas. If you are in Baton Rouge you can't miss this place!

I've been here a few times. Typically it gets pretty busy at dinner time. The wait can be up to an hour at times. This place has a lively atmosphere. When it's busy it can get loud. I find that the food is pretty good and the drinks are great. It's not the cheapest Mexican food in Baton Rouge, but it's worth a visit. They have rooms for parties if you desire. Give them a shot.

Food is good but come at lunch, even on the weekend. Dinner is pricey. Great atmosphere & decor. You can smell the mesquite! I guess Tex Mex than just Mexican.

Service is okay. Food was on point for the price. The queso was surprisingly good. Service was a bit slow, and we had mixed/missing orders. The parking lot is huge, and yet you may need to drive around for a spot.

Always enjoy here food is still good though have been better, but can't complain still goo Update just made a visit for it to go order today June 1st 2025. I have been going to Superior both locations for years and never had really many issues and I've had their hamburgers before and always thought they were awesome. Today we got two burgers one for eat a burger and one regular burger and both were super tiny just meat and cheese on them and very dry. Definitely sad and disappointing for what was one of my favorite places for many many years

Food was pretty good but they need more waiters. They had one person handling 10 tables so orders took a while.

The perennial favorite for Mexican cuisine in Baton Rouge. The fajitas are worth, but in the last several years I have settled into ordering the mesquite burger. That's kind of a cop out but I love the flavor and the char. The chips today were OK but not great, so next time I visit I'm counting on them to be great. Service was attentive, polite, and friendly.

Large area, even though it looked crowded we could still move around pretty freely where we were seated and could hear each other talk. Food came out hot and delicious; hubby got the pork chop and it was so moist. They actually serve quite large alcoholic drinks here to my surprise for the price. The service was a bit slow and there was a miscommunication with our server but other than that pretty good place to eat. First time there.

The food was good. But, they really must take care of the many flies inside maneuvering over/on foods. It was extremely annoying and it certainly didn't feel like eating indoors.

It’s ok! We were there for happy hour but the choice is limited and the price is a bit high. They seemed not too happy when we were just there for the drinks.

I use to come to Superior as a teenager. But the government sr location. I loved it then. Taste buds do change over the years tho. After being seated I was brought chips & then the salsa….i like salsa. Most of them. But this salsa was good for kids. But not when eating alone or for people who like bold flavor & spice in their salsas. I asked if there was a second option to the salsa & was told there was not. So to the salsa I give a 1/5 stars. I ordered a small strawberry & spicy (jalapeño puree) with tajin rim. I got too much puree & not enough strawberry. I was hoping for a more strawberry with a hint of spicy from jalapeño. It tastes more like powdered jalapeño; not a fan. 1/5 stars I ordered the street tacos: brisket, duck & pork. Comes with chopped fresh jalapeño, red onion, lime & cilantro on the side. As well as rice & beans. Tacos were good. I’d say a good 4/5. The rice & beans were more bland & needed hot sauce. 2/5 stars. The staff were nice. I came on a rainy Wednesday afternoon so they weren’t busy at all. The atmosphere seems nice & prices match the atmosphere. 4/5 stars

This is definitely a fun place for a party. There was a festive vibe going on when we visited. Our server was friendly, and very helpful. The food was overpriced, even though I liked the fusion of local fare included in the dishes, like duck and crawfish, but I would hardly call the food true Mexican. My duck, veggie, and brisket tacos were good, but my mother-in-law's enchiladas were swimming in cheese. We love the margaritas, so those plus the table side guacamole and exceptional service are a big reason to return.

I'm sure if it wasn't baseball for LSU tonight it would have been different but for my first time there it was really hard to hear the waiter he kept having to repeat himself and so did I it was super loud everybody was yelling and screaming like you were outside at a frat party but if I was drunk enough and was looking for a good time as a young college student then yes I would come here The food is really expensive and not that great for the price I think it was good but not for the price Great service though the waiter was awesome he was very attentive and did not leave us wanting anything at all

Let me start with the service. We were a big party of 50 guests, service was excellent. Great and pleasant waitress, food was not as great, chips were cold and hard. Salsa was tart, my salad was not good, I only was able to eat the chicken corn and cheese that was on it, the green part was so bitter that I could not eat. Prices are kind in the high range for the quality of food. 20% tip was automatically added, usually 18% anywhere else.

I am goving this rating as we didn't get a great service or food, but keep in mind it was super crowded and we had a big group. With that being said I am a firm believer that big crowds are hard to attend specially if our waiter has multiple tables. I will have to go again to try the food and to see if the service will be better. Don't recommend during a weekday and lunch time, But I will be updating this comment soon.

Just mid. Expensive. Server was attentive. Food came out quickly, but flavor and quality is average - what you would expect in a chain Mexican place. Had to wait 15 minutes just to put our name in even though there were plenty of open tables. Multiple patio tables open, but we could not get one there due to reservations so sat inside. Been here several times, but has been declining so will look elsewhere in the future.

Without fail when we come here the owners/ managers let the small children yell, scream and knock over chairs. Why parents don't rein in their kids when at a restaurant is beyond me., but, for the establishment let them ruin other guest experiences is even worse. Never wasting my time or money here again.

I really wanted to like superior. It’s said to be the best Mexican food in Baton Rouge, but that’s a super low bar. The food was okay, the fajitas were 30+ and there were a few small pieces of overcooked and under seasoned skirt steak, and an ungodly amount of onion. 28% steak, 1% bell pepper, 1% tomato, 70% onion. The service was okay, couldn’t really hear anyone. Once we handed our cards to the waiter, we were charged for someone else’s meal instead of our own. Of course it was fixed. There is nothing wrong with human error, it happens. But it definitely didn’t help my disappointment.

Had a private party of 35 people. The room was very narrow and small. Setup wasn’t the greatest as it divided the room because narrow and long. Food was pretty good but literally ran out of tortillas, chips, and actual fajitas within first 15m. Had to constantly remind wait staff to bring more chips, cheese, food etc. one would think this would be automatic. Had to remind about drinks as well. I also overheard what appeared to be two managers complaining about us staying there for 2h and 20m. I think a booking of a private party of 35 2h and 20m isn’t long at all... then when we asked wait staff to make coffee one waiter gave a look of exhaustion and frustration. Even told other person “really?” After confronting the manager about what was overheard his look of guilt spoke volumes. In summary food was good when we had it but the staff was a let down. The space was also wayyyyyy too narrow and small which made it worse. Paid a lot of money to have it and was disappointed

A 20% charge for late night food. Not even in the door and this place is already contentious. Maybe after 9pm start a 30% discount to serve this food since customers have to drive from home for this experience we could surpass at Taco Bell— and that for half the cost. The Meat like is chili and meat paste out of a can served w Browned guacamole and a Tiny sour cream dollop Salsa was watery and blandish. There was No body to it. No apparent veggies in it. An Incorrect delivery for a salsa, if I may. Later in the meal I took another bite of a chip and salsa. It actually tasted like water on a chip. It’s like there was no flavor. Chips were actually crispy and not stale. That was nice to have. Beans 4/10 flavor. Not seasoned enough. But typical for Mexican places. Rice was undercooked, lumpy and chewy. Steak meat was tasteless. No seasoning. Had a nice chew to it though at least. I also noticed the air I was inhaling had more flavor than the steak meat I was consuming at that moment. Possibly Air-marinaded steak; this may be water-based marination. Let’s call it the Midway Microwave Highland instead. Mysteriously the platter had this line of melted cheese and mystery tomato sauce in the corner. Did they just spill some wrong dish into my to-go food and say, “oh well, leave it on there”? An overall flavorless experience. Where is the salt or pepper? Maybe I need to add some to it myself It was a hard meal to finish cuz it was like cold trough slop but I hate wasting food and definitely hate wasting money. Sadly money and good food are increasingly harder to come by during these crazy days. 25$ base price— For this poor burrito dish? Total cost was 36$ for this sadness. It really was too bad as burritos are a large source of happiness for most of us humans. It was rather disappointing. 3/10

Not my style...don't care for the overly complicated food as I like simple, always a long wait to get a table, over priced, and it's so loud in here you have to yell to talk to those at your table. Staff is is always friendly and nice. This type of food and atmosphere is not for me. Great margaritas though!

It's a super expensive taco bell. Food is not worth the price, it is barely acceptable. This is only Mexican cuisine because of the names given to the food items. And to charge so much for dishes that use ground beef and chicken is ridiculous. I gave it 2 stars and not 1 because the service was great; the employees probably don't have a say in the menu options. Go spend your money for better Mexican food somewhere else, and you'll probably save some money.

Recently got take out and it was incredibly disappointing. It used to be so good. $28 for vegetable fajitas that were literally a bunch of onions, a sliver of zucchini, a piece of broccoli and a charred sliver of carrot. The beef and shrimp fajitas were overcooked and dry. They also still charge 10% automatic gratuity on all to go orders, 5 years after lockdown. There are way better Americanized "Mexican" restaurants that don't have ridiculous upscale dining prices, and give you more than dry meat, a bunch of onions and excuses. We will not be returning.

To me it's not worth the hype. The food is overpriced for the quality and overall is not that good. The service is great, but it still does not make up for the overpriced food.

It took quite a while to get food. Service wasn't great waiter never ask if we wanted refills on our drinks . Don't think I will be going back.

I don't know how this place is so highly rated. Walked in and sat down right next to the main entrance. A guy brought us water and chips, but that was it. We sat in clear view for 20 minutes as server after server walked past the table, none so much as made eye contact. Was my first time here and I'm extremely disappointed!

When you order tortilla soup You expect to have chicken vegetables, onions, and so forth, but when you get home and find that Your soup is a piece of chicken and onions and broth. Nothing else.!

I have never went to a restaurant and the restaurant charged a gratuity charge for take out. What kind of BS is this. The young manager or whoever he was rude . I will no longer go to superior grill

Garenteed gratuity screws service and quality. Our normal location is Lafayette, but a surgery brought us to BR and had un unexpected overnight at a surgical center with no kitchen. Found this location and thought we were in luck! Anything but! Ordered to-go (which they said would be 15% gratuity added) all it was SUPPOSED TO BE was a 7 layer chicken salad and a fajita burger, which Lafayette doesn't have so hubby was interested. He took of right away in hopes of enjoying a small margarita while waiting but not the case. He arrived not even 10 minutes and food was surprisingly ready. OK. He said they were slammed with a gym group or something and it was rowdy. They brought our food, when he paid, he was shocked it was $100 but he assumed I added some apps. When he got back to the surgical center no utensils/ napkins/and they gave him a steak fajitas! Not the burger! No wonder the price!! OK. If the steak was cold and tortillas hard! No excuses for this horrible service and food quality at this rice point! Garentee gratuity means people have nothing to loose no matter what they serve you! This locations chicken is blacked seasoned and thin like that then shaved chicken you get from Greek places. Lafayette chicken is thick sliced, moist and mesquite flavor from the grill. Clearly run by a different owner....and run correct unlike this location
