We saw Pazzo Pastaria recommended on San Antonio Restaurant Facebook Group three days ago and it absolutely did NOT disappoint, we’re so glad we decided to come! We started by sharing the Calamari Fritti as an appetizer and it was perfectly crispy and flavorful. My husband ordered the large Caesar salad and kept saying how fresh and delicious it was. For my entrée, I had the Lasagna Bolognese and I’m not exaggerating when I say after one bite I wanted to cry. It literally melted in my mouth. The layers were perfect, the sauce rich and comforting, and you can tell it’s made with so much care. My husband ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, finished every single bite, and was completely satisfied (which says a lot!). We also had one of their house desserts, I wish I remembered the name but it was the perfect sweet ending to an already amazing meal. On top of the amazing food, our server was very attentive and great, always checking in at the right time without being overbearing, which made the whole dining experience even better. I wish I remember her name, She worked Tuesday 2/24 at 6:15pm. The food, the quality, the flavors, everything was top tier. This will definitely not be our last visit. Highly recommend! 🍝✨
This is a wonderful little Italian restaurant with homemade pasta, all the old favorites and a blackboard of specials that are well worth considering to expand your palette. We were greeted with no wait for our reserved table. Ty, our wait- person, promptly arrived at our table welcoming us and was attentive throughout our dinner. Our food was delicious from the dry Italian pinot noir and roasted olives with homemade breads for appetizer, to the fresh while truffle arugula with grated parmesan salad, to the saffron risotto with seafood, and finished off with homemade limoncello tiramisu. This slice of Italy is worth going out of your way, but be sure to make a reservation. It's popular, and for good reason!
Go here!!!! I promise you won’t be disappointed. The service and food are amazing. The pasta is made in house and the ingredients tasted fresh. ** adding - the reviews that are mad about not being sat in the last hour or long waits clearly have never worked in a smaller restaurant nor are they capable of understanding the policies are posted! Have some empathy for smaller businesses!! ❤️
Excellent food in a small family owned business. Everything was made from scratch, they even had a sweet ginger soda made in house. With their prices I got out cheaper than Olive garden, and for food better than downtown. The Alfredo was excellent and one of the best I've had in San Antonio. Can't wait to try the reds next time!
Best pasta place in town by far! We always have an amazing time. Delicious food that can’t be beat, awesome service and a sweet relaxing atmosphere! It is a small place but this helps keep the atmosphere nice and peaceful and helps the food quality stay on top! I think it’s dumb that the only negative reviews seem to be more about the exclusivity of this quaint place and those people’s lack of ability to make a reservation like stated on the website, then about anything else. I don’t think you should be able to make reviews on businesses you haven’t tried. And I for one have worked in the service industry and nobody likes people who try to come in right before closing.. stay amazing pazzo pastaria!!
This is hands down one of the few truly high-quality restaurants in the area, and it shows in every single detail. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that the owner and staff prioritize the entire dining experience, not just getting people through the door. The house-made fresh pastas are exceptional. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the care that goes into every dish. The menu is thoughtfully curated rather than bloated, which is exactly why everything is executed so well. And the desserts? Absolutely outstanding. Easily on par with what you’d expect from a high-end restaurant. Service here consistently feels five-star: attentive, professional, and genuinely warm without ever feeling rushed or transactional. It’s rare to find a place that values doing things right over doing things fast, and that commitment is what makes this restaurant special. If you’re looking for fresh, beautifully prepared food, exceptional service, and a dining experience that feels intentional and elevated, this place delivers every time. Quality like this deserves to be recognized and supported. My son loves the spaghetti and meatballs and I’m a big fan of the fettuccine Alfredo. But I have to mention the Panna Cotta I got for dessert. Absolutely delicious and unlike anything I’ve ever had elsewhere. Next time I’ll take pictures!
Have had the pleasure of dining here twice so far. Both times I was completely blown away by the food, service & atmosphere. The polenta with shrimp in a Calabrian chili sauce is out of this world! The limoncello tiramisu is simply divine! This gem is a small family owned restaurant so please do your due-diligence to make reservations. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a top notch dining experience.
Easily the best Italian food we've found in Texas. They make everything in house and the flavors are exactly what you're looking for. Be sure to make a reservation because the restaurant is very intimate and seating is limited. The service and staff is amazing and they are a well organized restaurant and team. They'll get our business everytime we are wanting Italian food. A gem on Nago!
Our waiter, Adonte, was amazing and super knowledgeable! We were actually planning on eating at the deli but ended up in front of the pastaria. Best mistake of our lives. Pretty much everything is made in house and you can taste the love. The Italian sodas were delicious. We had the sausage bucatini, chicken alfredo, lasagna, and chicken parm all were some of the best pasta we've ever had. The pasta was so good that we almost forgot we also ordered garlic bread. 10/10 would come again.
Accidentally found this place when looking for somewhere new to go for my bday — and I’m so glad I did!! Fresh pasta made in-house daily? Limoncello tiramisu? The kindest, sweetest staff?? I struck a goldmine finding this place! If you like real, fresh pasta and food, go to Pazzo Pastaria! Order the lasagna and be wowed by the 20 layers, or try the bucatini, carbonara, bolognese… literally all of it is so dank y’all! 🤤🤤🤤 Their in-house Arnold Palmer is so good too, and they have great beer and wine choices. Truly though, the people make the experience. Katie has been our server the two times we’ve been and she’s an absolute delight! And I’m pretty sure the lovely, friendly woman who greeted us and checked on us consistently is the owner - she’s fantastic too! Oh and they have a deli! Haven’t tried it but obviously gotta!!
This was our first time here and everything was absolutely amazing. Ty was our server and he was fast and attentive. Great service. We got the calamari and the snails both were perfect. The bread service was warm and fresh. For mains we got lasagna, the Gorgonzola pasta and a special they had which was penne ala vodka. All of them were absolutely perfect. We left still talking about the meal in the car. Will definitely be back!
Most important: MAKE A RESERVATION!! This is a hidden gem of fantastic Italian cuisine, you absolutely MUST check it out if you want a proper Italian experience. My friend and I went Saturday night, and I was beyond impressed. Our table was ready when we arrived, and there was no way we would have gotten in without a reservation...so glad my friend thought ahead. Service is excellent! They are friendly, genuine, and attentive. They let us know that the kitchen is very busy before we ordered, so that we knew what to expect. They know their menu and their wine selection well, and everyone treated us with a smile. These people clearly love working here...and that shows in the quality of food & service. The bread service is only $3, and the presentation of the oil & balsamic vinegar is brilliant...they serve it in an inverted metal ramekin, and pull it off the plate when it is served, with fresh grated parmesan. The focaccia is delightful...a little more dense than what you would get in Italy, but that's due to the flour used here vs. Italy...gluten content is lower, so there's less loft to the dough. Excellent flavor and seasoning is perfect. I got the Pappardelle Bolognese, and I have to say it was as if I was in Italy again (been several times). The noodles are made fresh daily, and the pappardelle had a consistency and quality that fits in with Northern Italy. Very close to the tagliatelle that I learned to make from scratch on my last trip. The sauce was excellent, with quartered mushrooms and ground meat. The consistency was a little different than the homemade Bolognese that my Italian friends make (theirs is a bit creamer, with smaller clumps of meat..probably because they cook their sauce for 18 hrs) but it did not detract at all from the dish. The little dab of marscapone is a nice touch. I didn't add any cheese or pepper flakes to it, even tho they offered, and it didn't need it. We also ordered the arancini, which were delicious. Softer than what I've had in Rome, but that's perfectly fine in my book. Tomato sauce was rich and smooth, perfect consistency and quantity for the arancini. The staff and owners are excellent, and elevated an already enjoyable meal to an exceptional experience. We shared a slice of cake, the special for the night (I forget what it was, farina something with caramel sauce) and it was heavenly. I also got an espresso affogato, and it was nice. Only complaint I could find for the night was the gelato was extra dense, more like ice cream, so it took a bit of effort to get the espresso mixed in...and that's a very minor thing to complain about. This is my new favorite restaurant in San Antonio...I *WILL* be coming back!!!
Don’t let the outside fool you. This is a cute little Italian place. Service was great! They offer lunch size portions. We ordered Cesar salads, the garlic bread, Alfredo w/chicken, and chicken parm. Besides the chicken being a bit bland for the Alfredo everything was really good. Don’t skip the garlic bread!
LATEST VISIT: 10/25/25 PICTURED: Mixed mushroom strata (special), Gemilli alla Milano (regular menu item), Zabaglione (special) This is our fourth visit to Pazzo, and we are never disappointed - this visit was no exception. That strata … plated on top of Gruyère cream sauce with guanciale. This may be the only time I wasn’t missing a “main protein” with my dish - it wasn’t needed. The strata with mushrooms stands alone. My husband loved the gemilli pasta. And the zabaglione was decadent but light. Berries were a good balance to the sweetness of the custard. PREVIOUS VISIT: To say this place is good is an understatement. The Uptown Cluck is divine. The service is impeccable. Quaint. Comfortable. A different kind of Italian experience.
From the moment we walked in, we felt like part of the family. The warm, welcoming atmosphere made the evening feel special and comfortable at the same time. The staff was genuinely friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. The food was absolutely outstanding. The scratch-made pasta was some of the best we’ve ever tasted—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with sauces that tasted like they came straight from Italy. Every bite reminded us why authentic Italian cooking is truly an art. This is hands down the best Italian meal we’ve had in a long time. It’s the kind of restaurant that leaves you already planning your next visit before you’ve even left. Just make sure to book ahead—reservations are a must, and for good reason. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Italian food with a true family touch.
Absolutely love this place! Most authentic pasta in all of San Antonio! One of my friends is from France and has been to Italy a lot and when she tried this place, said it taste like it does in Italy. I’ve been here several times and every time everyone has loved what they’ve ordered. This is the only place I go to for pasta now. The service is on par and the owners are active in the restaurant and very nice people! I don’t have a picture of the cappuccino, but I normally get it when I go there and their coffee is amazing also. I do recommend making a reservation if you plan on visiting on the weekend or any evening. They book up quickly.
This was our first time to eat at Pazzo Pastaria and we were extremely impressed! Shelby was our server and was extremely pleasant and attentive. We started our lunch with the Ceasar Salad which was delicious especially with its homemade dressing. My husband ordered the Bucatini con Salsiccia and he truly enjoyed it. I ordered the large portion of Spaghetti and Meatballs. The homemade fresh spaghetti, tender meatballs and marinara sauce were some of the best I have ever had. I was only able to eat 1/3 of my serving and brought the rest home for later. We ended our lunch with the Tiramisu which was freshly made and such a large serving that I brought that home as well! Did I forget to mention the garlic bread which is made with freshly baked bread on the premise and the garlic butter? We brought a second order of that to bring home as well! We will definitely be back! Such a gem and find in SA for Italian cuisine! Thank you for a wonderful eating experience! We travel alot to Italy and our daughter lives in NYC so we take advantage and dine a lot in Italian restaurants. This is such a pleasure for us.
Another one of our favorite San Antonio restaurants that we haven’t been to in a while. Pazzo’s Pastaria on Nagadoches is an off the beaten path Italian restaurant where they make their own pasta. It’s usually crowded and it was the night we went. This was probably the first and only time the food didn’t meet or exceed expectations. We had Fusilli Gargonzola with chicken, spaghetti carbonara, and penne alla Rustica. The Fusilli didn’t have has much pasta as usual and a lot of chicken and the carbonara wasn’t creamy and little watery. The penne alla Rustica was tasty as usual. The service was great, the atmosphere is nice considering what they have to work with. Even though this experience wasn’t what we were used to we’d recommend Pazzo’s, very nice owners and the food with freshly made pasta is normally very good.
Nice little hole in the wall restaurant. Made a dinner reservation, and was welcomed with a busy atmosphere. We were seated right away, unfortunately towards the corner of the restaurant, behind the counter. Not a horrible dining spot, but also felt like we were slightly forgotten at times. Bread service was a bit confusing and unclear. The menu has it available for 3$, but it also states that the first round is free. Well, we did not receive any bread, nor was ever offered any, as it would of been nice to chew on something while we waited for our dishes to arrive. The Mrs. was also a bit frustrated, as other diners were receiving bread service left and right. I wasn't too bothered by the situation, but it's the principal of it all. Enough about the bread, and on to the main courses. We ordered the lasagna Bolognese, fettucine alfredo and the chicken parm. The lasagna was decent, I wasn't too impressed with the accompanying Bolognese sauce, but overall a good dish. The chicken parm was your standard chicken parm, well made though. The spaghetti accompanying the chicken was fine, though a bit too chewy. Needed perhaps an additional 2 minutes on the stove. Last but not least was the alfredo. Creamy, rich, and perfectly al dente. We also ordered a couple of drinks, sadly they were watered down. As for dessert, we took a gander with the affogato. It was just OK. Not worth the 8$ if you ask me. Service was overall a bit slower than expected and the food took a good 20-30 minutes to hit our table. Staff were nice and cheerful, but I expected more from a joint with 4.9 stars. Not bad, not great, but not coming back. 3.7/5
As a Google reviewer, I recently visited Pazzo Pastaria for the first time, and overall, it was a good experience. The food was very fresh and delicious. Every dish we tried was well-prepared and full of flavor. The service was also commendable; the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. The only downside was the atmosphere. It was quite dark inside, and the table we were seated at was very small, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Despite the ambiance, I was not disappointed. The fresh food and good service contributed to a pleasant dining experience. I would recommend giving Pazzo Pastaria a try.
