We were in Cleveland for the day and wanted to stop for lunch but not fast food. I Googled "restaurants near me" and The South Side was at the top of the list. We absolutely loved it! The menu selection made it so hard to choose. Our choices were amazing!! Our server Veronica was friendly with a great sense of humor and helpful with us deciding what to order. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Cleveland!!
AMAZING! The food was on another level. My wife and I were in town for the weekend and other diners were crowded. We happened to end up at South Side by accident but we have no regrets! The server was great. The food blew our minds. My only recommendation to the restaurant is that their menu completely undersold the food. The mini donut flight was a spiritual experience. I got the biscuits and gravy which were the best I’ve ever had. My wife got eggs, sausage & French toast. The quality of the food was top notch. I will be back!
Great spot off the beaten path in downtown Cleveland. Their outside patio is the perfect mix of shade and sun because of the trees. I had the chicken and waffles which was delicious and friends had the French toast which they enjoyed.
The service and food was great. The staff was very attentive to our needs and wants. The food was excellent.
Such a great place to hangout! The vibes and atmosphere are really cool and chill, and the service is great. The food - is amazing! The burgers are so good, and the queso was really good too. Prices aren’t bad either. Overall, a super nice place.
We were able to beat the happy hour crowd today. It was great because we were seated pretty quickly. Our service was amazing. The menu has a little bit of everything so you're sure to get something fulfilling. The broccoli cheddar soup was ok. The chicken sandwich was huge and fried perfectly. We got the sauce on the side. Service was good and prompt. She was able to answer all of our questions and direct us to a dish we weren't initially thinking of.
This has to be one of the best brunches in Cleveland. An extremely fun and unique menu. So many takes on Cleveland favorites, I highly suggest everyone check this place out. The chicken and waffles were earth shattering (still crispy to the last bite even after being covered with syrup) the breakfast perogies were something I would have never thought existed. I can’t wait to come back again.
South Side was unexpected. We went to celebrate with a friend who was about to get married. It was a perfect atmosphere. The drinks and food were good. I got chicken and French toast, not chicken and waffles, lol. It was totally better with the French Toast. We had a blast, and we will return.
Sunday early evening visit. Lots of grad parties. We sat on the patio and had great service, The food was delicious and sitting outside was wonderful.
A small but delicious menu, spacious seating areas, indoors and outdoors. My personal favorite is the korean fried chicken sandwich, a little bit messy, but worth it.
Tried for the 1st time and it was very good. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu so it made it easy to make a good selection. I ordered the Cauliflower Tacos and they were amazing, my lemon cake for dessert made my heart happy and my wife and cousin both enjoyed their meals and drinks.
Casual outdoor dining with tables socially distant. No one wearing masks. Wait staff directs customers to use cell phones to make menu selections but will provide paper menus if you don't have a cell phone. Food was good but typically overpriced. Wait staff was friendly and helpful but took considerable time for them to deliver salt and pepper shakers. If time is not a factor nice place to relax and enjoy the outdoor dinning.
The South Side has compelling ideas for entrees and shareables, not to mention a nice outdoor patio. I’ve enjoyed the Sunday brunch before and more recently the epic chicken sandwich that was delicious with its slaw (no 🥓 on mine). The bartender makes a good cocktail 🍹 and the service is okay too. A great idea for lunch or dinner, they also have Saturday brunch available. Great eats!
Brunch, lunch, dinner, everything is delicious. We recommend this place to all of our friends and family. It's the perfect place to go and sit out on the patio and enjoy brunch during the summer.
This spot in Tremont was great! Quick to get a seat, a nice outdoor space for good weather times, and the drinks were amazing (I recommend the Strawberry Fields when it's available). The food was so-so nothing crazy, but overall a place I'd definitely return to at the very least for another cocktail!
Just had a great experience at The South Side. The food was great - I tried the Tiger Crab sandwich and loved it! My friend got the burger and that was good too. Fresh cut fries. The atmosphere on the inside is super cool and laid back. Staff was very nice. Not too far from I-71 or I-90 - Gets you close to downtown Cleveland!
The South Side is a great bar and restaurant located in Tremont. This establishment is near other hot spots in the area and also close to the highway for a quick eat and run! No need to search for street parking due to a large parking lot located directly across the street. Inside, the bar has been modernized and equipped with plenty of table seating and bar seating. The bartenders and servers are all nice who make consistent checks on drinks and tables. Speaking of drinks, I enjoyed a Bloody Mary (or 3) and I was very impressed. They make their own mix which has a unique flavor that will have you requesting more than just one! I also feasted on the shrimp and chicken tacos with a side of lobster mac & cheese. I think that their lobster mac was delicious, but the tacos lacked (still good though) in presentation and flavor compared to other local restaurants. Overall, The South Side is a must visit restaurant in Cleveland! You'll leave satisfied with money left in your pocket! Give it a try!
Haven't been in a while. Food was awesome as always. Short Rib Taco and Duck Ramen 👍👍Server was great too. Sorry i don't remember her name but lots of tattoos. She was on it the whole time. Drinks kept full, timing was great on all points. Love this place.
Chef Natasha has brought seasonal flair and her signature elevated Eastern European style to The South Side’s crowd-pleasing menu. Now no longer a great bar with a good kitchen, this place promises a dining experience that can keep pace with any trendy or upscale eatery within the vicinity - which is saying a lot since it’s centralized in a longstanding “culinary hub“ - the Tremont neighborhood.
The wings were great as well as the chicken and waffles! They have really nice outdoor seating! Our server was also fantastic, they had great music, and large variety menu!!! I will definitely be coming back!
1st time here. Love the decor, very laxed environment. Ate at the bar. The bartender was awesome, the food was awesome. Look forward to going back to try some more items on the menu. Definitely a lovely place to take a date
Wonderful atmosphere! Waiter was on top of all our orders! Matthew? The guy who ran the Pitt Marathon. They have a room in back for big parties like our own. Highly recommend.
Went for my birthday lunch and would highly recommend this place! Our server was friendly, fun, and on point. Our food was awesome. We got the stoner nachos, great serving size for the price. Could be a meal on it's own. We also got the short rib philly. Very flavorful. HUGE. Fresh cut fries were also very good.
I had a group dinner with about 20 people at South Side. Everyone enjoyed the food. I had the lamb burger and it was delicious. The service was excellent. We had two servers and they had help bringing the food out. Everyone was served their meals at the same time, which is hard to do for big groups. Both servers were attentive and no one lacked for drinks or anything. Arranging this dinner was easy working with Jill (manager?). We kept in touch with texts and I kept her upto date with the reservation numbers. Really, a first class establishment. The fireplace and overall bar atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing. It was easy striking up conversations with the folks at the bar as my wife and I waited for our party to arrive.
Excellent food! I had the Korean Chicken Sandwich with rosemary garlic fries and Amaretto chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Everything was fantastic! The sandwich was the best sandwich I ever had - so many different flavors bursting through! I will be back!
We’ve now been there for dinner as well as the weekend brunch. The food has not disappointed, the drinks are great, atmosphere is great, and the service has been good! Definitely worth a visit. Take your friends, enjoy a meal and just enjoy some time. South side will accommodate!
Love the atmosphere! Food was pretty good. I would recommend the nachos!! They had a seasonal burger that was pretty good too. Only downside is it’s pricey.
Pretty good, but I didn’t love their brunch options. Why do you offer fried chicken on French toast but not chicken and waffles? And you have gravy but don’t offer biscuits and gravy? I ended up swapping the French toast for pancakes and it was okay.
The South Side This was blocks away from Barrio where we ate the night before. It has a parking lot which is a plus. We were there on a holiday, so we were lucky that it was open and ready for business. Though we were warned that there was a shortage on staff so the wait time for service may be long. It was fine. Both places we went to are in an area called Tremont which has been described as “hipster paradise” and yes you can see it. Food. The enchiladas were actually a highlight. During this trip we have been burned, unfortunately not literally, by the taste of just horribleness of the uncooked tortillas we had encountered in Virginia. (We were driving back to Chicago and stopped in Cleveland, yes on purpose). So the enchiladas here not bad, I would order them again. My cobb salad was delicious, I mean it’s a salad, you can’t mess up a salad. The chicken and waffles were decent, the chicken was just oversize nuggets or chicken fingers. We also ordered a ramen, which we should have read the description of. We are used to ramen having a broth or being a soup, and though we did get the noodles and stuff it just felt like it was missing something. Again, its just us assuming it would be broth-y and not like a dry soup. Overall I do recommend the place service was normal, the waitstaff was attentive and we didn’t encounter any exceeding long wait. If we find ourselves in Cleveland again, yes on purpose, we might stop here again.
Great lunch location in Tremont. Updated interior with nice variety of choices on the menu. Fun bar area with small separate dining room and patio for the warmer months. >> Update after a warm, fun and tasty Holiday luncheon - so welcoming, so good and our server was just right. I recommend the Short Rib Tacos, Flank Steak and wings 😋 Merry & Happy is well done here.
Easter Dinner at @thesouthsidecleveland wonderful service and fresh food!! we hit a large part to the menu with Short Rib Tacos, Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles , Drummer Boy Wings ( full-sized drum sticks ) with buffalo sauce, The Tremont Burger, Bread Pudding, Brownies along with items not pictured ; french fries , churro donuts , fat boy nachos, queso, fried chicken sandwich and more. the drinks were plentiful also BLACKBERRY WAY Cruzan light rum, blackberry simple syrup, fresh lime juice, citrus sugar rim (martini) and an amaretto sour. knocked or out of the park. all 9 of us were stuffed !
I enjoyed the ambiance of this place. The bartender was super nice and attentive. The drinks were good. The food was okay. I personally thought paying $17 for the chicken and waffles was definitely on the high end for the portion they served but it was still good.
The South Side has a great patio with Great friendly staff. Recommend the stoner nachos. The pork is so tender with the combination of the queso, Chipotle sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, and pico de gallo top off with those jalapeños definitely oh so good! Note: Burgers are only on the dinner menu served after 3:30pm
A casual spots bar in Tremont serving a good beer and cocktail selection along with comfort food. Has a large patio and Igloos for rent for those interested. Food options include options of sandwiches, burgers, Mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, wings and specials. Definitely add it to your Tremont food tour!
The south side was good but not great, we went here for brunch and we got sat in the ba k which was fine since we were a larger group, however I think this let us be forgot about slightly. Our service was good but not great, again we were a large group so maybe that had to do with it but lots of drinks went empty and one person in the group was looked over completely for their drink order. Our food was good but not great, we all tried various items from the menu. The best at the table was the avocado toast. I’d go back but definitely want to try some new places next time.
Overall, not a bad spot to dine. I think I’d come back for drinks w friends; the food wasn’t anything too outstanding outside of your typical bar food. No complaints about the food - just nothing special. However, the hot honey wings were tasty! Plentiful seating on the patio and indoors with AC. TV’s aplenty throughout the space. Attentive service and pleasant staff. Appreciate that they offer a late-night kitchen menu.
Long wait, but neat looking place. Enchiladas and eggs are delicious. I ordered bacon and way underdone and ordered a stack of blueberry pancakes. Pancakes were still like batter in middle and minimal blueberry topping and almost no whip cream. Definitely not enough for stack of pancakes. Mimosas were very good. Would go back
The good: Plenty of seating, including outdoors. The okay: Food. The wings were actually pretty good, but not hot because they didn't bring it out as an appetizer. Salmon dish could have been better seasoned. There was visible seasoning on it, so I was confused as to why it was a bit bland. My guess is they didn't use much salt/pepper or they only seasoned the batter, not the salmon itself. The "bad": Service. I visited here some years ago and decided to come back when I stopped through Cleveland. I didn't remember it being anything special, but this time was even less so. I asked specifically if sauce was served on the side for the salmon dish and ordered blue cheese + ranch with the wings. The sauce was not on the side which definitely took away from the meal and we didn't receive anything with the wings (which came out with the meal). The waitress then preceded to check on other tables multiple times while not even coming to our table. I will say they did comp the wings since they service was markedly late. I don't think I'd eat in again there. Maybe just takeout for the wings.
The service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. Special shoutout to the manager, idk her name but she’s amazing and so was our server Alexa. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t tasty at all except for the pierogies. Everything else was so meh, it seems like nothing had flavor to it. I’m not totally against giving it another try but I probably won’t. I hope your food experience is better!
So the waffle was a bit off. After reading reviews we know why, it is a frozen waffle? Yuck. So take for me and the other people don’t order the waffle and chicken. The French toast, eggs, and Turkey sausage was delicious. French toast is soft and flavorful. Drink I ordered tasted good, a bitter boogie. Not a place I would go back to if visiting Cleveland again. But it was alright.
went here for lunch and I have 0 complaints about the food, but they sat me away from other people and I guess that made them forget about me. No one would look at me or do anything for a long time until someone bussing finally saw me and felt bad. She was nice and took care of me but I just was so confused at the bad service.
Mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, tasteless. It is completely different from the review photos. looks like diffrent menu.. Has the chef changed? Drinks are manageable. the vibe is fantastic !!
We came to this place b/c it has a 4.3 rating. Which is really high yall. The service was good. But this was some of the worst food I have ever had. I am not sure how a restaurant is able to screw up a quesadilla but they did. It was the eggs or egg product they used, it was just disgusting. The saving grace for this place is the wings & tater tots. I would not recommend coming here for “brunch” or lunch. Maybe just drinks and bar food. But the drinks weren’t good either.
AFTER posting my review and looking at my receipt I saw others said: THEY CHARGE A 2.5 PERCENT FEE TO USE A CREDIT CARD... WHO DOES THAT!!!!??? We arrived promptly at 10 for brunch. We are from out of town. First impressions were excellent. Really nice restaurant. Menu was diverse and prices were reasonable. Coffee was very good!! We ordered the empanadas and gravy to start. The gravy was yummy, the inside of the empanada was good but the shell of the empanada has zero flavor. This is where it starts to go down hill. I ordered the home style chicken and eggs, French toast, chicken, and eggs. French toast was amazing. Eggs were kinda weird. ***Chicken was literally a frozen chicken patty***. Super surprised. At a place like this I expected fresh fried chicken. Chicken tasted as expected. Pretty disappointed. Wife had Spanish stacked omlet. Looked amazing. Again, not much flavor. Super disappointing. It's as if the cook isn't tasting the food. We got a side of tots as well. Again, looked amazing, had ZERO flavor... No salt on them at all. Bland. If I was a local, I'd be really disappointed. Unfortunately if we visit Cleveland again, we won't be coming back here.
The restaurant overall has a cool look and nice ambiance. The drink are also good, but that’s where the good ended when I visited the restaurant. The wait was about an hour and a half. The food was basically tasteless and not seasoned. The chicken and waffles I ordered consisted of frozen waffles (very very similar to Trader Joe’s Belgian waffles) and previously frozen chicken tenders with syrup. I asked the waiter if the waffles were frozen because of the freezer burnt taste, and he confirmed. It takes 3 minutes to make fresh waffles. Based on this experience, I will not return.
Went there for brunch last week with my husband and we tried multiple dishes. Unfortunately, my burger was under cooked, fries were cold and our tater tot’s were cold and they messed up our drink order. However, they remade our food and it was pretty good overall. Fast forward to today, a few days later, I decided to go there again, but to try the lunch menu since they didn’t have that menu during brunch at our last visit. I stood in line to be seated and it honestly wasn’t that busy. The hostess was definitely not the friendliest or attentive, but I just waited. Another waitress saw me waiting and actually showed me to my table and she was friendly. Once seated, I sat there for 20+ minutes waiting for someone to take my order or at least bring me a glass of water, and no one ever came. I saw a waiter helping the 4 other tables that were immediately across from me and those were the only other people in the enclosed outdoor dining area. He waited on them, took their orders and never once looked at me or came over to even speak to me. At that point, I got up and left. I tried to give this place another chance because the menu had some things that looked really good, but my second experience was worse than my first. I’m disappointed because I really wanted to try some of the items on the menu, but it was made pretty clear after both my visits, especially today’s visit, that customer service and the quality of their food leaves a lot to be desired and doesn’t warrant another revisit.
When you have a drink menu that says $8.75 for a shot of Buffalo trace- and the customer orders it on the rocks - you don't charge $12.25. Because you ordered ICE!!! the server was pleasant but unapologetic and tried to justify the upcharge by saying that it was a bigger pour because it's a bigger glass. but isn't a shot a shot? When you order a draft beer that is on your menu - EVERYDAY-- it should be on happy hour-- not full price! They were unapologetic about it! And acted like the charges were justified. NEVER going back. They charge a service fee for using a credit card...beware and watch your receipts for shady fees. Too bad, we once upon time liked to patronize this local establishment.
Party of 3 got here at opening on a Sunday. They asked us if we had a reservation and we said no. They were immediately put off by this, giving us an attitude and took 3 of us to a 2 person table and added a chair. I told them we would just sit at the bar because a 2 top was not going to work for 3 people ordering food and drinks. We were there for over an hour and there were tons of tables. No reason they acted so snotty and tried to make us sit uncomfortably. Food was fine. Nothing special.
Updating my review. This place use to have great food. Today, not so much. The food was not good. Lobster bisque had no lobster. It was a puree. Tacos were basic and shrimp had little to no seasoning. The Brussel sprouts would have been good with extra sauce. We asked for extra and it took 20 minutes to get it and that was only after going to the bar to ask for the 2nd time. By the time we received it, food was cold. I informed our waitress of the issue, and she took no accountability for forgetting to get it or for not checking on us. Additionally, she walked past us multiple times, tried to call her, and she ignored me. The manager was nice about it and handled the food situation, but the rudeness of the waitress was unacceptable.
Granted it was New Year’s Eve, however that did not excuse the poor service and the awful food. My burger looked like a frozen patty that had just been warmed up. It was not seasoned at all nor were the fries. My Coke was flat. My server acted as if she wanted to be anywhere other than at work. Needless to say, I will not be back to the South Side!
