One of the best Chinese restaurants in Queens. I live quite far from the restaurant but still prefer to make the 20 minute drive to get some of the best Szechuan food I've ever had. The Spicy Boiled Fish and Chong Qing chicken are what I always get no matter what. The Scallion fried rice and Dan Dan noodles are really good as well.
Delicious authentic Szechuan food with a homemade feel. The regular spice level is pretty spicy with that numbing peppercorn that makes Szechuan food so special. You can tell the food is made with love. We got the twice cooked pork and TWO dan dan noodles because we love it so much. I learned that Little Pepper is a wife and husband run restaurant where both are actually from the Szechuan region of China (I chatted with one of them, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation). Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Flushing area and we will be coming back again!
Been going here for over 15 years. My must have dishes when coming here are the double cooked fish and the scallions fried rice. My friends will also say the double cooked pork is a must. This is a small mom and pop restaurant and I'm glad to see it survive Covid and I hope it continues so I can eat here for well over another 15.
Nice little place hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Flushing. Food is very good, leaves the lips with a thrilling numbness that is indicative of proper use of spices. The staff is not fluent in English so as a rule utilize the pictures and Google Translate for a proper experience.
Love this spot, bring friends from out of town and everyone raves about it! Our favs are the scallion rice, cumin lamb, double cooked pork, dan dan noodle and orange chicken!
This is the best szechuan food I've ever had. I was expecting to have the heat blow my head off - instead I felt the fire throughout but it never overwhelmed. We were there with 11 people for a party, had non-stop food - both dishes and appetizers, and average $25 per person. An AMAZING deal.
Dumplings Dan Dan Noodles Twice Cooked Pork Braised Fish in Chili Oil Mapo Tofu Pork Belly I think I have the menu memorized by now. Little Pepper is really outstanding for Sichuan food. It doesn't get any more authentic than this. Heck the dishes are covered in chili peppers. Come with a big group and sample a bit of everything. Just be sure to order two dishes of each.
Excellent Szechuan food. They do not speak much English here. If you speak Mandarin you are at an advantage. All the dishes are excellent here. The mapo tofu is unlike other mapo tofus you have tried elsewhere. It is less red with chili oil. The flavor is infused with the tofu. Lots of peppercorns and the tofu is more firm. Anything pork is delicious here as well.
If you love spicy food then this is the place to get your grub on. Various yummy dishes and if you're not a big fan of spicy food, I'd recommend the Kung Pao Chicken. Not at all spicy but very delicious
The Dandan noodles are too good to pass up. All family style portions are easily shared and delicious. Don't sleep on the Dandan noodles... Tried many others, but these won't be denied.

This restaurant is absolutely perfect! The food is the most authentic and so very filling. The staff is SO AMAZING, extremely kind and considerate, always making sure their customers are happy. this is one of those places that you go to with 10 people and order 10 different things and they are all completely amazing. not recommended for any dietary restrictions. use google reviews to point at different pics of what you want and be adventurous at the menu—this combo will yield varied and dependable results. new years day 2024.

Delicious! A gem and totally worth the trip. Reviews in The NY Times etc are all true. Original art by one of the owners all over the walls. My favorite things to order are dumplings in hot sauce, lamb with hot sauce and cumin (super spicy but so good), and the fries are actually the best, fresh and perfectly done with fresh herbs and spices on them.
My favorite restaurant in NYC, Sichuan or not. Amazing food at good prices, and just really tasty and varied Sichuan food overall-- best Dan Dan noodles I've had yet, and you almost want to bottle the broth the sesame cold noodles comes in. I've been here countless times with my gf, and it's way better than Famous Sichuan and Spicy Village, better than Legend of Taste, Grain House, Sichuan Mountain House, it edges ahead of Mala Project... and blows Han Dyansty out of the water. Great food, good people, and quirky art on the wall! Love this place!
We had the szechuan twice cooked pork, the spicy eggplant and the dan dan noodles, which are our go-tos at other szechuan places. This one was a little spicier than our usual, almost too much for us, and the eggplant especially had a really nice sweetness. Definitely good comfort food. Will order from here again.
If you’re new to Sichuan cuisine and LOVE spicy food, Little Pepper is the perfect place to visit in NYC. This husband-wife duo have done something very special, they brought part of China’s Sichuan Province, uniquely known for their spicy cuisines, to Queens. Since opening, they’ve quickly became a local favorite and have earned Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. I tried the Chicken in Chongqing Style and the Scallion Fried Rice, the latter — especially recommended! The rice helped to balance the spiciness. If you’re scared of the food being too spicy, don’t feel discouraged. They can cook the dishes you want at a spice level that is mild, and they also serve dishes that aren’t spicy at all! The wife, who greets you with a big warm smile, is lovely to all of her customers. She will make your heart melt! I’m looking forward to returning and dining inside.
I live in PA and visited New York to see my cousins. We went to Little Pepper after a movie. Their Sesame Chicken is awesome! And when you go there, it is a MUST to try their Beef Lo Mein!!!! It is the one of the best Chinese restaurants EVER!
I took my sweetheart here and we had a meal that will not be forgotten. Even the tripe was good. We ordered both types of snow crab legs (garlic and spicy) and they arrived hot and delicious. The art on the walls is an excellent touch. There was a group of off-duty cops making a bunch of noise for seemingly no reason but that was hardly the restaurants fault. We are DEFINITELY going back. Yes, it's a long trip coming from NYC proper but the food is almost unbelievable. GO!
Great place for authentic Sichuan spicy dishes. There are other good Sichuan place in downtown flushing, but this one is easier to get to and you have no parking and wait issue, kinda a hidden jam. Try their homemade sausage and double cooked pork. Spicy fish dishes are good too if you can handle fish with bones. This place is comparable to similar spots in Manhattan, but a more comfortable atmosphere since lesser known and due to its location away from downtown flushing. Must try.
Outstanding Chinese food. Luckily we had someone order for us but everything was just outstanding. It's a little bit of a trek from the 7 but worth it.
My favorite cuisine is szechuan food, and Little Pepper is the best szechuan food in New York City. I suppose that would logically mean that Little Pepper is my favorite restaurant in all of NYC. Every single dish here is nothing short of perfection. For us it usually starts with the delightfully satisfying dumplings in chili oil, which we have to eat in our car outside the restaurant before we even start driving home. For other appetizers, the beef noodle soup is the best I've had in the city, and the cold sesame noodles are delicious and addictive, packed with Szechuan peppercorn goodness. Not for the faint of heart, chicken chongquin-style is ferociously spicy and pairs perfectly with the scallion fried rice, which is packed with so many scallions it's turned green. The braised fish in chili broth remains my favorite dish here, packed with flavor and deliciously tender. We also like the preserved eggs, but need to get them in moderation. I've heard great things about the cumin lamb, scallion pancakes, and tea duck, and can't wait to get back to try them.
Best szechuan in the area. The little elderly lady there is adorable and always so many smiles. My favorite place to get Dan Dan noodles, scallion fried rice, and winter melon soup will make you feel at home.

Little Pepper is THE place to go, period. I routinely travel almost two hours to pick up from them and it is worth it EVERY time. Not only is their food DELICIOUS, family owned, and affordable, they never balk at requests and are always super communicative. They even let me order in their IG DMs. Mapo Tofu, Sichuan Cold Noodle, and Scallion Fried Rice are out of this world. (I’m vegetarian, and still find plenty to pig out on.)
This is a family style restaurant, very homey, comfortable & cozy. There is original artwork all over the walls. The owner is very attentive & kind and the food is great! Not your typical experience, you'll love it too!
Best Sichuan in the city... It's been consistently excellent in the 10+ years I've been eating here. Go to dishes for me are: dumplings in chili sauce, bamboo shoots in chili, Dan dan noodles, cold spicy noodles, griddle cooked mushrooms with preserved pork, sliced fish in spicy soup base, dry sauteed string beans and scallion fried rice.
Delicious birthday dinner for our family group. Indeed a "Mom & Pop" operation, but our varied dishes came out at a good clip & all were excellent. Good value price-wise. Leftovers to take home. Friendly service. Deserves to be busier!

Feeling lucky to try out before they close.. the owner told us they are about to retire. If u r around the area, visit once for authentic Chinese food! Plus, super nice pricy. Sharing some dishes I remember below. 💚🍚🥄Green onion fried rice was super special. Look might weird but smelled really good and the taste was simple but rich. 🍤✨Fried shrimp was delicious. Simply pick the one you like. 🍲Fish soup was good too. 🥔fried shredded potato in sour sauce was good toooooo! Highly recommend this one.
Although I don’t get to come often, I really enjoy eating here. My advice would be to have patience and flexibility as it’s a true family run business with a mom and pop team running everything. I do appreciate that they will let you know when food will take longer- have a cold beer or some house tea while you wait for delicious food. I am not an expert but I’ve traveled to China for work a few times and the food here takes me back to there, authentic and delicious!
Little Pepper: A Hidden Gem in Whitestone Little Pepper is a delightful, unassuming restaurant nestled in Whitestone. Street parking was readily available on a Saturday morning. The clean interior and friendly service created a welcoming atmosphere. Our server was exceptionally patient, especially with my son's enthusiasm for authentic Szechuan cuisine. We were thoroughly impressed by every dish we ordered, particularly the mapo tofu and chicken with three type of mushrooms. Even as someone who isn't a fan of spicy food, I found plenty of delicious options to enjoy. Without a doubt, Little Pepper is highly recommended. We'll definitely be returning to savor more of their fantastic food.
As others have said, this is a mom n pop restaurant, as in it is literally run by one mom and one pop. At first I was turned away at 8pm on Saturday, I came alone. But I asked for Mabo Dofu and Dan Dan with the little Chinese I remembered from college, she asked if it's ok if it takes a little longer, and I said "no problem!" And I was in! The Dan Dan noodles were my favorite, they were exquisite. Noodles had a perfect homemade texture. The Mabo Dofu had a great amount of spice and Sichuan pepper. Pork fat perfectly permeated all the sauce.
Probably the best Chinese food I ever had, but my Chinese friends made fun of me for saying that. The owners were very nice and the food was absolutely amazing. Get the eggplant, my lord get the eggplant. I've definitely never had better eggplant. Every dish we had was awesome. If I am ever in NYC / Queens again, I will definitely be coming back here.
Some of my favorite Chinese/Sichuan food in the city. Also, it's a dream for vegetarians. If you're in the mood for maximal flavor, get the mapo tofu (mouth-numbing mala spice), silken tofu with fresh scallion (topped with a nutty, chili crisp), or spicy cold noodle (vinegary and garlicky). If you're looking for something a little more toned down, but equally delicious, try the dan dan noodles, fried rice with szechuan brined vegetables, dumplings, cabbage with dried pepper Sichuan style or tofu home style. This is definitely a place to come hungry and order lots of dishes. Everything is fantastic!
Good Sichuan isn't hard to find in the city, but great Sichuan is not - and Little Pepper reaches those heights more than almost any other place I've had outside of Chengdu. The Dan Dan Noodle has just the right amount of heat (and isn't shy about it), but the Sichuan peppercorn flavor bursts through unlike almost any I've had. This is also true for their clear glass noodle with pork, and their mapo tofu. The Shredded Pork and Bean Curd is a fantastic, less spicy dish to balance the heat of the others, and the ingenious scallion fried rice (where scallion is actually pressed into the grains, creating that green hue and addictive flavor) is an absolute must to cool you down. I didn't love the pork belly in the Twice cooked pork, which is one of my favorite dishes from the region, but the flavor was still great - but mostly everything else was a huge hit. Even the pickled Sichuan veggies are awesome here! Highly recommend.
GREAT FOOD! GOOD TIME! First I must say this place is not your typical fast food Chinese spot that is in every corner in nyc (you know what I'm talking about (over priced and not so good)). This place has family style AUTHENTIC!! Chinese food!! Specialty from the Sichuan region in china. Which I leaned they like their food spicy which made me love it even more because in my country that's what we enjoy most very spicy!! lol. The food was great the service was good and i will definitely like to try more dishes in the future!! Come on in if you're ever in the area!
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. There are very few places to almost none where the chef actually gets the flavor and the spice level you'd prefer. I was very skeptical before going there at first thinking that it would be just another typical chinese restaurant among the many others around that block but the food changed my mind. The decorations were beautiful too and had a clean look unlike other chinese restaurants. The complimentary green tea they give in the beginning is nice. The fish I ordered didn't have any smell like other restaurants I had tried in. It was full of flavor and the perfect level of spice when I asked for extra spicy. I also ordered food to go to try out a different dish. There wasn't any disappointments in the kung pao chicken neither. The environment, service, and food all were really great! I will definetly go back and recommend this place to my friends.
This used to be my favorite Sichuan in NYC and it's still a higher-ranked mid-tier spot, but the city now has a few higher end spots including the indomitable Guan Fu.

Update 2/04/20: I still like this place, and I still would recommend it but just know that while you CAN get lunch specials here, and they say that it lasts till 4pm, it actually does not. They stop giving you the menu around 3. And they really don't want to give it to you despite that it says on the menu that it ends at 4. This place has a great decor and excellent Szechuan. Not too spice and excellent food. Would definitely recommend.
Pretty empty during a weekday lunch hour. A lot of folks order out. The Sichuan pepper sensation was legit but the food felt heavily salty to me. It made my heart race!
Little pepper is best known for their spicy Szechuan cuisine in college point. Their salty string beans were great, as well as their chicken and fish. But al of the dishes are spicy and little oily, so if you are on a diet, maybe try it next time. Other than that, it’s pretty good.
Authentic Szechuan cuisine. Chef worked in Chengdu in a restaurant before emigrating to the US, and I haven't seen better hot oil sauce around NY. Skip the American menu, and go straight for the authentic selections. Some favorites: Kou shui Ji - Salivating Chicken ma la niu jin - spicy beef tendons Shui zhu yu - Water cooked fish, or fish cooked in spicy broth zhi bao yang - Paper wrapped lamb--spiced lamb meat cooked in aluminum foil (with cumin) hui-guo-rou - twice cooked pork yan-jan rou - like twice cooked pork but with cured pork la-zi-ji-ding - fried cubed chicken and stir fried with chili pepper. Service is inconsistent at best, especially on busy weekend nights, but the owners are cordial. We cross the toll bridge just for the hot sauce that has become addictive. Reservation is accepted, but it didn't make a difference for us (still had to wait). Worthwhile if you are into hot and spicy foods, or authentic Sichuan cuisines.
Lunch specials are not bad. 8.50 gets u a dish. Comes with side of rice and a starchy soup. You can eat it family style to share.
Little Pepper is pretty far past its prime, and the menu has somehow gotten way smaller over the years, but it's still pretty solid sichuan food.
The food was Good!! But too much use of spice for international people. I think if you go there you should choose 1 of their main menu with Americanized popular chicness food.
I had this place bookmarked for forever and finally got to try! I called ahead and had it as pickup so I can't say much for the service in the restaurant. We had the Dan Dan Noodles and the scallion fried rice. The servings are really big, I can say each entree can fill up 2 people easily. I've never tried Dan Dan noodles but the one from here was very delicious. It was spicy and numbing and my tongue was very numb after and I couldn't finish it. The scallion fried rice was very very green.. I don't know how they make it so green but it was delicious! Prices are fair and the food was good. Parking is pretty easy.
Always dependably delicious food at this small Chinese restaurant in Queens. Consistently ranked among the best restaurants in NYC, that title is well deserved. Favorites: pork or shrimp with crispy rice, cilantro-flavored soup with tiny lamb meatballs. A half star off for the weird art on the walls and hard to find parking, but that's quibbling. It's worth it.
It's quite authentic sechuan restaurant. Some dishes are hot and hit but not all. The lamb with cumin was my favorite. The fish was very fresh. Service gets busy during the weekend but still never a wait really. Plenty of space for one, couple or family.
Our go to orders are spicy cumin beef and sauteed string beans. Both really good and authentic. However, I find it surprising that they don't have a spicy cauliflower dish, since that's a stable in most szechuan restaurants. Took a star off based on my delivery experience. They claim they fired their delivery guy the last two times I tried to order delivery, and told me if I want it delivered I need to order through their online portal. I normally wouldn't have a problem with that, but they charge an extra $10 for using their online service. Ridiculous.
First time trying and did take out. Solid spicy beef noodle soup though I wish there was more beef and choy hence minus the star. I’d pay extra to have more beef.
My wife and I live close by and we tried this nice looking restaurant with interesting menu. The food was not the best tasting, service was mediocre and the price was on the high end.
Out of the way and good Sichuan option for this area. Good original choices. Dan Dan noodles not as good as advertised. Han Dynasty is still my favorite for DD noodles. Good lunch options. Stop in if you are in the area and like genuine Sichuan food.
The scallion rice I give 4 stars, but the Maypo tofu and the green beans were too salty, and I don't generally complain about too much salt. Had they had less salt I would have given 4 stars.
This place looked legit at first glance. 3 times Michelin-mentioned (though in early 2010s.) Bright and somewhat new decor. Here’s the experience. - We were aware of what the name of restaurant implied, we asked everything to be mild to not spicy at all. Some dishes still came numbingly spicy. - Other dishes were too salty, as if the cap came loose when sprinkled in the all-seasoning. - Overall, service was good despite understaffed. - Maybe they had an off day. Maybe it no longer worthy of Michelin-mentioned.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the food. The Sliced Pork Belly w. Chili Garlic Sauce was actually sweet, which threw me off. I lost interest after just one bite. The so-called “paper-wrapped lamb” was really just cumin lamb served on a piece of foil. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t particularly good either, and it was quite salty. The biggest letdown was the mapo tofu. The tofu had no flavor at all, and the sauce wasn’t numbing or spicy. Mapo tofu is supposed to be one of the signature dishes of Sichuan cuisine, and seeing it done so poorly was honestly frustrating. The rest of the dishes were more or less acceptable, but the fish had a noticeably not-so-fresh texture. Ironically, the best thing I had was the simple scallion fried rice, though even that was a bit salty. On the bright side, the owner clearly has some artistic talent, all the paintings in the restaurant were his own work.
I ordered Szechuan Pickled Veggies, Dan Dan Noodles, Cucumber with Garlic, and Cumin Lamb. The Veggies and Cucumber were great, contrasting between that Szechuan heat and the crispness of the cucumber. I’d say the Dan Dan noodles were the lackluster and the worst I’ve ever had, and the lamb had decent flavor but overall it was underwhelming.
This place just kind of sucks. I'm usually opposed to wasting food, but I barely ate half my meal and less than half of our appetizer got eaten. We did not think it was worth keeping.
Ordered take out - DanDan noodle, eggplants and scallion fried rice. It tasted good as expected but a bit greasy and somehow we got upset stomach after the meal. They refused to do their lunch special on their menu to go. Then they couldn't get their PayPal CC processing to work. Then they refused to accept the $6.00 in cash I had for a $6.95 order when the food was already made, telling me to go to a shady ATM on the street. Really? How to lose a customer 101.

Please dont go to this restaurant! We ordered stir fried beef and the meat was spoiled! The boss tasted the food and said this is still edible. He asked us if we want to take it go. Why would I want to eat this while he tasted the food! No apology at all, and I dont want anyone get food poisoning by eating there
the worst experiences ever , if you not Chinese they make fun of you when you ask for chop sticks, Not knowing that you speak their language. I just wanted to give them back the food and let them know if not nice talking about people in their language assuming that you don't understand what they saying . WORST EXPERIENCES EVER, FOR A FAMILY OWN RESTAURANT
This used to be a good restaurant and I dined in there for quite sometime, but since about six months ago, I went there a few more times and every time left me bad experience now. The price is definitely not reasonable, food taste horrible now, they put so much ( I mean it, too...much) MSG and salt in each dish. I even feel thirsty next day and my tongue still have to deal with the MSG within days. And the portion of each vegetable dish and some dishes we ordered was so eye-catching unbelievable small amount while their prices so favorable to the restaurant. I am done with this place, NO more.. There are a lot of good restaurants in flushing, why you want to be fooled this now-lousy one.
I had high hopes for Little Pepper based on the recommendations, but my experience was extremely disappointing. The service was slow and inattentive, with staff seeming uninterested in helping. The food was bland and lacked the authentic flavors I was expecting. The portions were small for the price, and the overall atmosphere felt cramped and uncomfortable. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience. Extremely slow service, even when there’s so one at the restaurant eating. I can see why people are going elsewhere. Not sure if they found someone new to work the kitchen or sold it off to someone else but the food quality and portions have been reduced greatly.
