Old Coupland Inn is a beloved dance hall with a welcoming Texas vibe, great music acts, and a spacious dance floor. Recent renovations have improved the facilities while retaining its charm. Some find drinks overpriced and seating limited, but the friendly staff and overall atmosphere are highly praised.

I wanted to give this dance hall kudos. We are not from the area so we had not heard of this 120 year old building that has apparently been a dance hall for many years and an awesome place to hang out for locals. I saw tickets online for Neal McCoy one of my all time favorites so I read the reviews before we attended to see what we could expect as far as how crowded it would get. Of course you always have a couple negative that are ridiculous so we went for it and I am so glad we did. For probably what was a sold out show there was plenty space to walk around and stand. The bathrooms were big and had plenty of stalls I never stood in a line. The bar got a little busy but the staff was very sweet and friendly and did their best. The stage for the entertainment is amazing and all of the restoration to such and old gem was super beautiful and neat definitely small town dance hall vibe. There is plenty of parking just a short walk from the building. I got to shake Neal McCoys hand on the way out that was how close we got to get even with standing room tickets. We had a lot of fun and highly recommend this venue. We could also tell the majority of the crowd were locals and most seemed to really be enjoying themselves on the dance floor. 5 star! ⭐️
Just visited for the Mark Chestnut concert. So awesome to see the place after not being back for over 7 or 8 years at least (young kids at home). Staff is very friendly! I liked that we got screened at the door so it limiithe chance of some yahoo bringing in a weapon.
It's been a while since I've been here and I love how they raised the sides for concerts. Had a great time seeing Mark Chestnut and we will be back more often.
This place is awesome! 💯 Several improvements have been made since they reopened. The dancefloor is huge, so there's plenty of room to "cut a rug" with your partner! 🤠 The stage is super nice too. I played there with the People's Choice Band a couple of weeks ago and there was plenty of room for everyone's equipment and plenty of electrical outlets to power our gear. That's very important to us performers...IYKYK! 😉 They are working on reopening the kitchen soon. I've their food is amazing! 😋
Incredible dancehall. It's a solid spot with real history, and the new owners have a true passion for great service. Can't wait to go back!
Great to see it's still going. Was always a special treat to go eat barbecue, and play pool upstairs as a kid. Now as an adult and living in Taylor it's still a treat. Hoping to see more great acts like Stoney LaRue on stage. That guy can bend some guitar strings. Show was awesome, and for a sold out show it wasn't that crowded.
As a local who lives just 15 minutes away and has been coming to Coupland since childhood, I can say without hesitation, the new owners saved this place. I’ve watched it change hands many times, and without this latest team stepping in, Coupland likely wouldn’t even be open to the public anymore. I understand some of the concerns people have shared in the negative reviews, but honestly, this is what it looks like when someone invests in preserving a Texas landmark AND makes it sustainable for the future. They didn’t take away the charm, they kept it alive. Opening night was packed, which is exactly what you’d expect for such a big comeback. The energy was amazing. The bathrooms finally got a much-needed upgrade (thank you!), and my only small suggestions would be to add purse hooks on the stall doors and maybe bring back the big bathroom mirror. I know it might sound silly, but I have so many photos in that mirror over the years, and it was one of the first things me and my friends noticed missing, saying, “awww, I wish that mirror was still here!” For anyone confused about the bar, it’s still there! The right-side bar was simply relocated to connect with the back bar, creating one long, efficient setup. Service was quick, the bartenders were friendly, and drinks were the same reasonable price (around $5–$7 a beer). The owners have struck the right balance: keeping Coupland’s historic soul intact while bringing in the updates and concerts that will keep it thriving. They’ve already proven they know how to build successful venues, just look at Haute Spot. Change is part of progress, and what matters most is that Coupland is alive again. I’m grateful to see it full of people, laughter, and Texas country music. Thank you for doing your best to preserve the charm while making the positive changes needed to keep Coupland alive for the long haul. I can’t wait for the upcoming dance nights and to keep making memories in a place that’s felt like home my entire life.
Such an amazing time! Even after being SOLD OUT, drinks were served so fast! Music was awesome, highly recommend spending your evening here with friends and family.
Best dance hall around Austin. The vibe is welcoming and very down to earth with a very desired Texas charm. You don’t need to know how to dance to have a good time. The owner will personally welcome you, and thank you for coming. I loved the ambiance and the dive bar feel while still being a really pleasant place. The restaurant attached is BBQ but even as a vegetarian still found plenty of items to eat. The strawberry salad was delicious! Drinks weren’t overpriced.
These folks have been on fire with the acts they’ve been getting. From familiars like Neil McCoy and Pat Green to damn good acts like Charley Crockett and Corb Lund. Excellent dance floor filled with seemingly experts. Only disclaimer is that they can sometimes run out of Lone Star. Can’t recommend a night out at Coupland highly enough.
Great atmosphere for listening to music and dancing. A classic Texas honky tonk? Service was very friendly. Well stocked bar. They have a limited menu available. Not the greatest but suitable. You're not here for the food! Definitely a nice venue to take in a musical act. One puzzler: Why do they have 11 cup holders for every 2 urinals? 1/7/2025 update: New owners have vastly improved the interior. Much nicer. Better seating, a longer bar, no more pool table. The stage is a bit higher. They even made the restrooms much better. Sadly the 11 cup holders per 2 urinals are gone. I never did figure out why that was a feature.
We usually enjoy going to Coupland Dancehall since our first visit over 17 years ago. Recently we went to see Sunny Sweeney as she is one of our favorite artists and doesn't play very often in this area anymore. We had a great time dancing but it was really hot the whole night! We had a group of 10 and several of us asked if they could turn on the air condition...... They seemed irritated that we even asked or complained about the temperature but we weren't the only ones women were in the bathroom drying off their sweaty faces as well. 🤷♀️ Eventually they said they would, but it never felt like it got cool. It was a busy night, there wasn't an empty seat in the venue. Luckily the dance floor is still as good as we remember but definitely won't be going out of our way to visit on a warm night again!
This place was a hidden gem until it got bought out by Haute Spot. Focusing on the positive, the staff they retained are some of the best and most welcoming people you'll meet. However, the structural changes post acquisition are not in your favor. Overnight they eliminated the side bar, doubled the price of drinks, and packed people in like American Airlines. "VIP" seating is so close together that you cannot sit without bumping into people, not that it matters because people can just stand in front of you. If you're a large person like me, it's miserable because you feel like you're constantly in the way. Their primary goal is ticket revenue, and customer experience/repeat customers clearly do not matter anymore. They have some awesome artists on the schedule, but understand what you are getting into when you buy that ticket.
No seating unless you somehow figured out to pay for “vip” seating on the website. I’m not going to stand around for 3+ hours. Drinks were overpriced. I got a ranch water and they just poured it from a can into a cup with ice. They searched bags and used a metal detector upon entrance. The AC was nice though.
Tonight we went to Coupland excited for the much anticipated grand re-opening. While the dancehall still looks much like it always has, it has received much needed upgrades like working bathrooms and a solid subfloor. However, as someone who has come here many years and as a local, I am disappointed in the amount of people they packed in. Yes, they kept the original dance floor but why? There were so many people the dance floor was packed full of folks standing there. This is a historic dancehall NOT a music venue. In addition, we’ve been told there won’t be nights they’re open for just dancing. There won’t be things hosted here that were once part of the community. It seems like (and maybe I’ll be proved wrong) it’s turned away from what made it special and turned in to every other place. If you’re coming here expecting the old dancehall vibe, you’re going to be let down. Another Texas gem turned into a tourist trap.
