The Baseline

The Baseline: For an Italian sit down restaurant the food must use of prime Italian ingredients (garlic, tomatoes, cheese, basil), preparation of sauces and al dente pasta, the meal portion size must leave me feeling full, and the service needs me feeling like I am part of the family. Food: The food at North Italia is good Italian and there isn’t any time I can think of that it has disappointed me. This visit I tried the Crispy Eggplant Parmesan and Calamari Fritti small plates and both were crispy and the eggplant took on all the delicious Italian seasoning. The entrees were the Bolognese, crushed meatball rags, and tortellini al pomodoro which were all well sauced with the pastas cooked to an al dente preparation. The drinks were an iced tea and a Sicilian Margarita which all complemented the meal, with water glasses kept full. We opted for desert and the Tahitian Vanilla Panna Cotta which was well formed, perfect texture, and not overly sweet as you would expect from a panna cotta. The compliment desert we had a latte and a Jumpstart. I love the Jumpstart which was sweet and espresso shot shaken into a delicious concoction. Getting this every chance I can. Service: Service was not bad this visit but there was a few hiccups that caused the entrees to be delivered at different times. A little forgiveness for the business and that the manager stopped by to let us know. Ambiance: This has the same Ambiance as my original review and it was not any different. The bathrooms are very clean which is high marks. Original Review: North Italia is a great Italian restaurant located at The Point in El Segundo, CA. This Italian restaurant hits all the points of the baseline as it relates to Italian food: use of prime Italian ingredients (garlic, tomatoes, cheese, basil), preparation of sauces and al dente pasta, and meal portion size. Food: the pasta is prepared to the proper consistency (aka not gummy), the grilled items have a proper amount of char with retaining the proper moisture levels, the drinks have enough alcohol to additional mixture ratio to be enjoyable, and the presentation/ temperature of the food is within the proper levels of making it appetizing. Aka the sauces are delicious, the cheeses are melted and grated with style, the meats are the right temperature, and meal is just satisfying. Service: This was great service and the table was given the proper amount of attention. Ding for having a few times that my water glass was empty. Otherwise it was close to perfect. Atmosphere: The restaurant is an open, inviting environment with a great flow of energy throughout. The tables are nice, the bathrooms are super clean, and the kitchen has open glass views of watching food being prepared. This has a very good upscale modern Italian vibe.

From start to finish, the service and food and cocktails were outstanding. Our server J.J. is a professional, his recommendation’s were spot on. The ambiance is lively, you could feel all the great energy from all the people enjoying themselves. This was our first visit here, and hopefully many more in the future.

I had the chance to dine recently with a large group, and while the overall experience was really good, there were a few bumps along the way. Let’s start with the highlights: the drinks were outstanding—truly some of the best I’ve had in a long time. Creative, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced, they set a great tone for the evening. The fish was another standout. It was fresh, cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. Everyone at the table who ordered seafood had nothing but praise. It’s clear the kitchen knows what it’s doing when it comes to execution and flavor. However, because we were a large party, the service ended up being noticeably slow. We expected a bit of a wait, but at times it felt like things came to a halt. A couple of items I specifically asked for never arrived, which was a little frustrating. I understand it can be tough managing big groups, but the service hiccups did impact the overall flow of the meal. That said, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting—cozy but upscale, with a great vibe for both casual and special occasions. Despite the slower service, the quality of the food and drinks made it a memorable evening. I’d definitely return, perhaps with a smaller group next time to get a smoother experience.

I recently dined at North Italia in El Segundo, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience! First off, the location is fantastic, and finding parking was a breeze, which is always a plus. We started with the calamari, and it was a highlight of the meal fresh, crunchy, and clearly not reheated. For our main courses, we indulged in the Margherita pizza, which was delicious, and the bolognese pasta, my personal favorite. The flavors were rich and satisfying. We also tried the chicken Parmesan with pasta, and it did not disappoint. Everything was cooked to perfection. Our server was outstanding and went above and beyond. When my friend and I mentioned we were sharing, he suggested splitting the plates in the kitchen for us, which we were really impressed by it made sharing so much easier! To finish off the meal, we couldn’t resist trying the affogato for dessert, and it was super yummy an ideal way to end our dining experience. Overall, North Italia is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area. Great food, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere make it a perfect choice for a night out. I can’t wait to return!

Pleasant and welcoming location. I had the opportunity to try the place in Arizona, and I can say that it's excellent everywhere! There are plenty of alternatives, but my particular favorites are the tomato/burrata salad and the wild grilled shrimp, which taste just like lobster. Such comfortable seats and quick service.

quite close to LAX and this spot has a great menu with a parking lot although you may walk a bit. Everything is perfect here but our favorites are Mushroom pizza and the Heirloom beet salad.

I’ve been to North Italia a few times and it’s always consistent — nothing fancy, but never disappointing. The service is genuinely warm and friendly, and the ambiance makes it a nice spot for a casual lunch or date night. Vegetarian options are a bit limited, especially if you’re trying to avoid heavy carb dishes. I had a salad for lunch one time — fresh and flavorful, though the dressing was overpowering. Next time I’ll definitely ask for it on the side. Other dishes - handmade pasta was soft and tasty, and the zucchini chips were a standout — they actually made me like zucchini! Overall, it’s a good, reliable choice if you know what to order and customize a bit.

The food was great, but they have increased their prices extremely. Taking an opportunity to cash in on tarrifs that don't affect them. $23 for a glass of wine, and then they give you about 2 ounces or less.

The service was wonderful. Our waitress was very friendly. I enjoyed the outdoor seating. The food was just okay. The past was thick and firm. The pizza was not like a true Margherita pizza. I really enjoyed the beets and bread appetizer !

Went for the first time last night with friends, atmosphere is lively and packed!! Reservation highly recommended. Service was good, did take a few minutes before anyone came over to our table but I could see why. Food: took awhile for the truffle garlic bread to come out but when it did it was yummy. I ordered the braised short rib and it was succulent and plated well. It was on the Colleen side but I didn't want to send it back, I still ate it. My friends enjoyed "The Pig" pizza which is a really good size, enough to share or take home. I also had the seasonal butter cake which melted like butter.. Yummy. Our bull came to about $162, suggested tipping a bit high but I gave what I felt. The restroom was super clean. Perfect photo op Overall, 4/5 and I will return.

I booked for a table of 10 for a dinner event for 7pm on a Wednesday night. We arrived right on time and were told that our table wasn’t ready, so 10 people are waiting outside in the “LA cold” (they did have a patio heater we crowded around) after about 5 minutes of waiting they offered us the patio (which was not made up for a table of 10) I declined as we wanted to sit inside. They told us the table before wasn’t finished. Then after 15 minutes I checked again and a different server presumably a manager asked me again if I wanted the patio, I said no. Then asked with snarkily if I had put specifically on my booking that I wanted inside. I said no. I explained that if we were to be sat outside then the table would have already been set up for 10 and we’ve already been waiting. By 720pm we were finally sat at our table. Had the actual table server not been an awesome guy with a great sense of humor and service this could have been a much worse review. He redeemed our evening with great wine advice and an attentive demeanor. We ordered shared appetizers for the table. Then each person order pasta or pizza. We had 2 bottles of wine and some individual drinks. The atmosphere is good, it’s usually busy so I’d book to not disappoint. The food is fresh and delicious and generous portion sizes for the price. I thought this spot was convenient, could book without a deposit for a large group and was a little disappointed. Would have been 5 stars without the issues with the table and how the manager treated us with a tone of it was my fault. Otherwise the food is worth it! $720 for 10 people to eat and then $150 for tip

I had ordered delivery from here and got the Lasagna. I’m very disappointed that all I got was just that. No napkins, no utensils, nothing. For the $40 I spent, I would have expected bread, a side salad, something. But all I got was a very small portion of Lasagna. During this experience discriminate there general manager Juan Cortez took sides with his staff. Staff wAs afraid to give their honest experience on what taken place. I am writing to formally report a deeply troubling and humiliating experience I had on the evening of December 28, 2025, at the North Italia location in El Segundo. The conduct of your restaurant manager, Martin Villalobos, was aggressive, demeaning, and discriminatory, and it has left me shaken and fearful of returning to an establishment I have frequented for years. I am a long-time local customer and regular patron of this location. That evening, I ordered my usual meal which I have ordered many times and was seated at the bar, where I always feel comfortable and secure. When my spaghetti dish was delivered, the bartender noticed the sauce was obviously watery and thin and advised me not to eat it. She voluntarily removed the dish on my behalf. I did not complain nor request that the food be sent back. A female manager later approached me, explained that the issue may have been caused by the prep team, and acknowledged the preparation error. At no point was I rude, disruptive, or inappropriate. Shortly afterward, Mr. Villalobos approached me from behind and forcefully placed his hands on me to get my attention. This physical contact was aggressive, unwanted, and alarming. I was immediately offended and felt unsafe. Then in front of the other customers, he abruptly stated that I would not be served and I need to “get out” and ordered me to leave the restaurant. His tone was hostile and humiliating. He then forcefully tossed a takeout container toward me to pack my food and instructed me to leave. When I asked for his business card, he again threw it onto the table rather than handing it to me. His physical actions toward me were intimidating and entirely unacceptable. I was humiliated, shaken, and reduced to tears. The couples seated on both sides of me were visibly disturbed by his behavior and left the restaurant as a result. I have never experienced treatment of this nature in any restaurant, let alone one I have loyally supported for years. I am an African American woman, and I cannot ignore the discriminatory nature of this encounter. I was treated with unnecessary hostility, physical intimidation, and disrespect over an issue caused by your staff—not by me. I am now genuinely afraid to return to this location due to how unsafe and targeted I felt. I respectfully ask whether it is your policy to expel customers when a dish is sent back - particularly when the staff acknowledges a preparation error. At no time was I offered an alternative dish or a resolution—only aggression and expulsion. This incident has deeply affected me. I request a formal investigation into Mr. Villalobos’ conduct and a response outlining how this matter will be addressed. I would also appreciate guidance on how North Italia intends to ensure that all guests are treated with dignity, respect, and safety going forward.
