I got the buffalo fries, a espresso martini & a burger patty for my dog. Very good & friendly service.
We love going to the Hills Food is always tasty.Drinks are always on point. And the atmosphere is always fun
Busy place, few tables so get here early, food is worth the wait. The place is unique and definitely a place not to miss if your traveling through. Service is great.
We loved having our wedding welcome party at The Hills Pub in La Mesa. The staff handled our group of more than 70 people without any issues and kept everything running smoothly. The food was honestly better than we expected, and everyone had a great time. Ten out of ten would recommend this spot for a large group event.
“HI! WELCOME IN!” Wow! It has been a very long time since we have seen a restaurant that has/is 1) great customer service 2) great food & 3) properly staffed! Taylor, the bartender, is a class-act. Friendly, hard-working, & knows her stuff! She greeted us, asked our names, checked up on us frequently & delivered delicious cocktails & food! This was our first time here, but we are very excited to return! Cannot wait to bring our family & friends here. Thank you Hills Pub for a true Sunday-Funday. See you soon! :)
Such a great place for a group event. Faith was incredibly helpful and kind throughout our entire evening here! Food was great, QR code ordering system is so easy for a big group, and the arcade is such a nice addition for the kids (& adults, let’s be real)!
My friends and I went here after Oktoberfest this past saturday. It is such a fun game bar! It's a fairly large space so although it's busy it didn't feel too crowded. We ordered some drinks and also some foods and were able to get a large bench for all of us to sit in the back section. Bartenders are super nice. Drinks and food we're all surprisingly good. This is a really fun spot to come with a date, there's a variety of games to play and just a good vibe!
I live in Orange County but made the drive down to San Diego for a beauty service (permanent makeup—Brows by Jamie, highly recommend! Separate review coming). After my appointment, I was starving and figured I’d kill some time to avoid the brutal evening rush hour. Jamie recommended a pub just down the street called The Hills Pub. She mentioned there were chain restaurants nearby if I wanted something quick and familiar, but insisted that if I was looking for a local gem, this was the spot. I’m so glad I took her advice. Pro tip: There’s a parking lot in the back that leads to an outdoor patio area. The space is split—one side has games and arcade machines for kids, and the other side houses the bar and dining tables. I ordered a mahi mahi fish taco and a “Pomegrita” (a pomegranate margarita). Both were delicious and felt so quintessentially San Diego—fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. Being so close to the border, you could really taste the influence. It also had that unmistakable local feel—bartenders and patrons greeted each other by name as people came and went. I was checked on frequently, and my water glass never went empty. All in all, a laid-back, flavorful, and welcoming spot I’d definitely return to.
Went last night after work for burgers with my wife. It was around 5 pm on a Friday and pretty packed. The customer parking lot is located across the street. It was easy to find parking at that time. It was pretty packed inside. The atmosphere seemed laid back just a bit loud and crowded. We ordered the garlic pom and el Diablo burgers. They had great flavor, were filling, and not greasy. We would definitely come back again. You can make reservations and I recommend it.
This place was great, I had lunch with an old friend. Was able to order a starter, have a beer, and then a delicious burger. Beware, it's loud but for good spirits loud. There is a game area in the side/back area as well. There's also outside patio outside sitting. Nice place to grab a beer and lunch.
I recommend 100% The burgers are unique and absolutely delicious. I recommend the parm burger and fries. Soon as you walk in the door the staff greets you. It’s a very welcoming environment! So why am I writing this review? Let’s be honest we only write reviews when things go wrong or wonderfully good. So here’s my story:) I won’t state the discrepancy, instead I’ll focus on why the 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. So things went horribly good and I thank the manager Ryland for understanding customer service and seeing me as a valued customer. The Hills should be grateful to have him. Sorry for the horrible picture of my food. I was so hungry I snapped it after I started eating. Either way the plate was left empty.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonable prices, good selection of drinks and really tasty food This was recommended to us and is was a great place to have some drinks and food It has outdoor seating in the front and back with a sports bar feel inside We ordered food and loved the bahn mi nachos as well as the garlic chicken wings We will definitely come back!
Have been here quite a bit. And boy is all their food is top-notch. First time I came here was a few years ago and they had typical bar food. I recently started coming in again and they had a huge change with their menu and the entire place now. There's more seating with the added patio and added arcade side. The staff is amazing and very helpful. Parking can be a pain depending on the time of day. But I will always highly recommend this bar.
Had a good time here last night. Stopped by for a couple drinks and some apps with friends. Always a fun place, great service and the food is really good. We love the pretzels and cheese, and the beets, brussel sprouts and bleu cheese salad was delicious. My wife really enjoys the Puff the Magic Dragon and I keep it simple with a nice cold beer. Edit: Went back today for a “business meeting” and couldn’t be happier. I was thinking about the burger but someone ordered the turkey melt and it looked delicious. I think we ordered like four of them with garlic fries. These fries had so much garlic it was insane, they also had Parmesan on top. The turkey melt had big Texas toast, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was served with a jalapeño candied bacon which was so delicious, a mixture of sweet, salty and spicy in your mouth, it was like a hot tub full of hot chicks. The turkey was good and the cheese was all Melty, exactly what I wanted. Someone ordered a chicken salad and it looked good. The kids got a grilled cheese sandwich with french fries and it was very good. My friend ordered a bloody Mary which was delicious with bacon and olives. She also got an espresso martini which I did try and it was super good. We dealt with five or six bartenders and waitresses and everybody was awesome, always so nice. My friends twins were acting like kids act and I was concerned the staff was gonna come say something to us. Eventually one of them did ask who the kids belong to and when we told them she just wanted to inform us that she had put them to work watering the plants. It was so cool that she took the time to get the kids to help out. She also gave them some cookies. We love The Hills!

Went tried out Hills...kinda hard find parking..street full but they have lot in back but full..finally found the lot across the street that is theirs and had several spot..and no charge but have to walk across la mesa blvd but wasn't too bad. Hills burger and fries was better than fadt food and about same price atmosphere was great..sat at bar they have tables infront out side booths and tables in bar and picnic tables outside in back and another big room with pin ball and arcades..lots of tv screens with games playing nit music and happy hour with drink specials.. good swrvice.service.. glad I went
The food here is always delicious, and they really nail the drinks too. However, the service definitely needs some improvement. It was just not up to par during my visit. Honestly, I think a bit more diversity would be a welcome addition. It would make the whole experience even better.
This is your quintessential neighborhood bar to have some beers, hangout, and grab a bite to eat. There’s street parking out front and a small parking lot in the back. They redid their outdoor area so there’s more seating and there’s a small arcade section. There’s also a small patio out front to sit at as well. I’ve been here multiple times and always have a good experience. I like that you can sample different beers and that they have rotating taps so you can always get something different a part from the classics. Service can vary depending on your server I’ve had some great and some not good experiences with that. The only downside to the add on of games and the outdoor space is having more kids. Since the main attraction is the bar and TVs for the games it puts a damper on it with kids running around when you’re trying to drink and let loose but I also understand it’s a way to bring in more people and revenue. Overall a nice spot to catch up with friends, watch a game (if you don’t mind kid friendly environment), and get some good food and drinks.
The hills pub is a fun place to hang out! The food was SO GOOD! I was not expecting it! But I devoured immediately! They have a wide selection of draft beers and different cocktails, that look really good! The arcade is a fun area too, it’s smaller than I thought it will be. Overall, the place is fun and the bartenders are very nice people!

This place is ok. They didn't have a happy hour and only have garlic wings but they offered to add buffalo sauce which we did. They werent the best either. Its very active and busy which makes "the place to be spot" maybe its the lack of other establishments. I may come back for a drink or two but it wouldn't be top of my list. They have a dog friendly patio so that may be the only return reason. Nothing against this place but seems like a locals only getaway.

My fiancé and I have been going to The Hills for several years, since we are La Mesa residents. Unfortunately, the experience we had last night, made many of my friends and me want to take a break for a while. My friends and I (group of 5) arrived at The Hills last night (Sunday), at 5:30pm. We had a long day and were excited to unwind and grab some drinks and dinner at one of our favorite local spots. Right off the bat, we were met with Stacey's condescending and judgmental demeanor. She kept coming up to our table, asking if we were drinking our water and eating our food, we felt like we were being mothered. It was very awkward and off putting but we brushed it off, thinking she was just looking out for everyone. When my friend and I went to order our SECOND (our 1st ones were a Corona & White Claw) drink of the night, she accused us of being "too drunk" and "she didn't feel comfortable serving us more alcohol" and when I explained that our fiancés were driving us to help her feel more comfortable, she still refused and talked down to us. Mind you, the entire time we were there, we were seated, minding our own business and not being loud or disruptive at all. My friend even had her dog with us and people were politely coming up to ask if they could pet her and we were all having a great time. So we were highly confused by Stacey's attitude and reaction towards us but we closed out our tab and she actually made me cry, because I've never been treated so poorly and rudely before at an establishment. The Hills has been a place where I've loved and hung out for years but as long Stacey is working, my friends and I will no longer be going there and it makes me so so sad.
The Hills is a place that my friends and I, who are La Mesa locals, love going to at least a few times a month. We always enjoy going to brunch on the weekends, and love how personable Curtis and his staff are. We also enjoy going to the arcade side at night and playing games, and have never had any issues with staff before. Yesterday, we decided to stop in for dinner and to watch some football. From the moment we went to order by the bar, Stacey the “manager” had a short, dry, and rude attitude. When we went back to our table, we overheard the table to the left of us also complaining about Stacey’s demeanor and attitude problem. From there, every interaction with her felt unprofessional, she had a poor attitude, and when I asked to speak to her regarding this, I explained we’ve always had great experiences at this hills and I’m unsure why she thinks it’s ok to speak with customers this way. I told her Curtis, the morning manager, is kind and professional and we’ve never had a poor experience with him. She then mockingly said she’s happy to give me Curtis’s email if I would like to complain to him too. I was baffled. Stacey, I think you should consider a different career route, maybe child care since you’re so good at talking down to people like they’re smaller than you.
