Decided to go Italian while in Lake George. We are Italians who loves food. The atmosphere and service were very good . I had the spaghetti and meatballs (this is how I judge italian) and my wife had the Chicken Marsala and though they were good just not what I expect for Italian. So that is why I go 4 stars here.
We had a group dinner with our racing club Saturday night. Buffet style. our group (20-30 people). And our servers were amazing!!! Great sense of humor! Would razz us just as much as we would razz them. With great, down to earth, give and take. Absolutely hope our group gets to go there again!!!
Great place to have dinner while in Lake George! We love Mario's Restaurant, great atmosphere, food, and service! Thank you once again for a wonderful evening !
This is a truly special place, perched to give window views of the lake and from the time you walk in you will experience highly attentive service, good food, and a delightful warm atmosphere. I also enjoy with your entree you get a garden salad and bread.
We are a family of 3 and had a lovely experience at Mario’s! The food was absolutely delicious! The dip for the bread was totally worth $5. Bread was warm and butter soft. The minestrone was one of the best I’ve had. French onion soup was great too. Chicken Alfredo dish was out of this world the chicken was juice and tender. Eggplant parm was also amazing. Drinks were great too. Our waitress was very helpful with suggestions and very attentive. Great prices and entrees come with soup or salad.
Been going to Mario's for the better part of 50 years. Never had a bad dinner, not ever. Food is old-fashioned Italian like your grandma made. Service is always amazing; our server Grace was the BEST. Don't miss this Lake George gem!
If you are looking for exceptional Italian this is your place. We walked in to a very full restaurant and were lucky that the hostess found a table for us without a reservation. We had Christine as our server and she did an amazing job and provided fantastic recommendations. Loved the hot bread !!!’n. It was Arthur Ave quality. The food, service and staff were exceptional. We will definitely return on our next trip.
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. This place is amazing!!!!!! I stood at Lake George for a week. We ate here almost everyday. We tried a few other spots and this restaurant by far is one of the best and a MUST goto if you stay in Lake George. Service was outstanding. Employees had great personalities and very welcoming. Food was outstanding. I recommend the shrimp scampi. Prices were reasonable, not over priced. When I go back to Lake George, I will definitely be going back here. Highly recommended. I would make a reservation before going so you aren't waiting to be seated. This place can get busy at times.
An adorable little Italian spot right outside of the heart of lake George. On the more quiet end of the very busy road we popped in while on vacation for the weekend and were not disappointed. Our server Paige went above and beyond. She was the sweetest most charming server. She took her time explaining the menu and specials. She wasn’t wrong when she said the minestrone soup is out of this world. I had the chicken Marsala and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. High in price for the portions but you are in lake George and everything is upped. Would recommend to anyone visiting lake George.
Been visiting Lake George for years, and finally visited Mario’s for the first time. Not a big Italian food fan, but the food was delicious!!! For soup or salad, get the Minestrone!!! So good!!! We all cleaned our plates! Courteous service, all around. Would definitely recommend, and visit again!
I celebrated my birthday here last April 23, 2022 and it's our first time to dine in here. We live close to the city and and drove almost 3hrs to try it. Their food is superb and it's beyond our expectations. We will definitely come back and i highly recommend them and the service is amazing. This restaurant is superb and really amazing! Even the kids love their food.
Beautiful, romantic, place, professional service, and delicious food, including the "free" freshly baked bread!! And the water was poured without being asked, which I have not seen at a restaurant in a very, very long time! P.S. the Parmesan cheese that comes with the free bread was mistaken for sugar and was added to my date's coffee. I do not recommend doing that unless you will laugh as much as we did. 😆😆😆
Over rated for 1.5 hr wait. The food was compared to Olive Garden in my opinion, just a tad better but dry overcooked pastas.
Found my Alfredo very odd. Sauce was basically just runny cream with shredded cheese all over it, the cheese all stuck to the bottom of the plate and some bite were pasta with chewy wads of cheese. No velvety sauce. Bit pricey the quality. Even my kids pasta with butter was over $25. Not on the menu, so I think we were charged for garlic and oil on pasta.
Great atmosphere! Our waitress was great. She was friendly and helpful when we asked her questions. The food was good. The bread was great. I had the chicken marsala, I liked it but it could have used a little bit more seasoning. My husband enjoyed the special of the day. We would go back.
Mario's is the last restaurant I dined in for dinner before heading home from the long Memorial Day Weekend. This place has been around since 1954, and it was the best restaurant I dined in during my stay in Lake George. The restaurant inside is beautifully elegant, clean, and has a great ambiance. I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and the Blackened Salmon. The Shrimp Cocktail is what you would expect from a Shrimp Cocktail and the Blackened Salmon was very tasty and had flavor. The Minestone Soup that came with my entree was pretty good as well. My server was very pleasant, and the food came out rather quickly. They have a decent sized menu and, in my opinion, didn't seem overpriced at all, as other reviewers have stated. I got a couple of glasses of the house wine for $9 a glass, and surprisingly, it was really good, and I got a real nice buzz. Overall, I would definitely dine here again the next time I am vacationing in the area.
Lovely space, the restaurant is spacious with many rooms for seating. They have a different entrance for the restaurant and also a lounge area for drinks. For appetizers, we ordered the clams and calamari. Both were very perfectly delicious ! Sadly this was the best part of the meal. After that, my mom ordered the eggplant Parmesan, came with a side of veggies and potatoes. I ordered the spaghetti in white clam sauce, I thought it was too oily and not enough flavor. After the spectacular appetizers, I was expecting a highly delicious entree, but that wasn’t the case. We even told the waitress (who was a phenomenal waitress btw), but was surprised they didn’t offer to take it off the menu, or offer to make us something else. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu, it was tasty. Amazing service, good decor and layout of the restaurant, and very tasty appetizers. The entrees were a letdown, but overall a decent place to eat at Lake George. This is definitely one of the better options here.
Mario's Restaurant, a real authentic Italian American establishment, the food is fresh and portions are hefty. We ordered a half carafe of their merlot house wine for $18.00, not a bad price point. Fried calamari to start as an appetizer lightly breaded and fried to perfection, the marinara sauce is very light. Veal Marsala and Spaghetti with a white clam sauce for entrees. The veal marsala came with a delicious marsala sauce, you could taste the wine in the sauce. The white clam sauce that came with the pasta was packed with flavor, they are very generous with the clams and the garlic sauce was delicious. To finish off the meal there was a 7 layer chocolate cake and some coffee. Will recommend to anyone looking for a good meal in the Lake George area.
Went here for dinner with my husband while visiting Lake George for our 15th anniversary. Food is good but the service is lacking. Our waitress was missing and we had to flag her down to ask for bread half way through our meal as we were never given any (it was on all the other tables) and then find her again 15 min later to tell her we never got it. She then tells us we were lying and she watched someone bring it to our table. Soooo... apparently people are bread thieves in Lake George? I was appalled! She then walked away and didn't come back. She never asked if we wanted another drink or anything. Thankfully another waitress stopped to check on us after we asked her for bread and she brought it to us right away. She also cleared our table and had to find our waitress to get our check. I still can't believe that we were called liars over bread and spent $100 on dinner! Generally bread at an Italian restaurant is a given. Not a good look. She threw the check on the table and walked away. We gave a tip to the other waitress. Word of advice, don't ask for bread! Maybe educate your staff to treat people with respect as you never know who you are talking to or who is seeing their behavior and bad news spreads faster than good.
Service and atmosphere are spectacular. The food on the other hand is subpar maybe for tourist that don’t know real Italian cuisine might find it to be satisfactory. They use frozen mini meatballs just leave it at that.
I normally don’t write reviews, but after this experience I feel it’s important to give a fair warning so others aren’t disappointed. Our first impression walking in was not great—the carpet had an unpleasant odor, almost like old Parmesan lingering in the fibers. For appetizers, we ordered fried calamari, which tasted good but the portion was surprisingly small. For my salad, I asked for a wedge, but instead of iceberg lettuce they served romaine, which was another letdown. My wife ordered the chicken Marsala, but the chicken was tough and had an odd crunch, almost like leather. I ordered the veal in butter and garlic sauce, but it was heavily breaded and fried, and the richness of the sauce made it overwhelming and hard to eat. Service didn’t help the experience either—our waitress rolled her eyes when we asked her to clear the appetizer plates after serving the main course, something that should have been done automatically. Overall, this restaurant was far from authentic Italian and left us very disappointed.
Stopped in a couple weeks ago, 10 year old daughter was very hungry but the rest of the family was not. Asked if we could place an order to go for her. Woman behind the bar was very nice and was happy to, however her mother (I’m assuming the owner) who was seated at the bar gave total attitude, acting like they are too good to do this. Mind you, it was not busy at all. Lady, your restaurant is not special, is totally outdated and is not a 5 star restaurant so get off your high horse. I feel sorry for your daughter who has to deal with your nonsense.
Service was standard and ambiance a little outdated but everything was clean. However the food was horrible especially considering the price. I got baked stuffed shrimp for $36 and the shrimp was boiled with no flavor over a few scoops of stuffing over pasta with no sauce. The portion didn’t even make up the minimal effort dish. Unless they step it up, I recommend not wasting your money here.
