If you’re looking for a restaurant that serves up bold flavors, impeccable service, and a touch of Southern charm, you need to check out this hidden gem tucked discreetly in a shopping mall parking lot. It’s the kind of place where you’re treated like family friends stopping by for some good old Southern comfort food—with just a little upscale twist. there’s a new head chef, Devon. The food is flavorful and perfectly seasoned, from start to finish. We tried: shrimp pizza, cornbread, deviled eggs, shortrib, Cleveland cookie with ice cream, Caesar salad, sweet potato wedges with ricotta, and catfish nuggets. Some of the stuff are seasonal. While everything was delicious, there were three absolute standouts everyone at my table agreed on: 1. Sweet Potato Wedges with Ricotta 2. Caesar Salad (i know, we didnt expect it either) 3. Catfish Nuggets and sauce service was one of the best we’ve had. Foster, our server, was attentive, friendly, funny, and made us feel like VIPs. The bartender, Courtney, was equally amazing—kind, welcoming, and mixing up strong, delicious drinks to match the vibe. (Ginger mojito was yum) The ambiance is nice and chill, perfect for a casual night out or a fun get-together. Don’t let the location fool you; this spot is worth the visit. If you’re in the mood for Southern-inspired dishes and some of the warmest hospitality around, go here!

Dined here for brunch with friends. They have indoor and outdoor dining spaces. I appreciated that they had overhead heaters. The food was very flavorful and well cooked. The waiter was polite and attentive. I definitely will be revisiting.

In a word: divine. This restaurant met all of my expectations of great food and then some. There is plenty of food options to choose from and everything is made from scratch for example, the hot sauce is great and the tartar sauce. The catfish nuggets are very moist and the cornbread breading is crispy and well seasoned. I was not disappointed. The deviled eggs were made with bits of smoked catfish and thinly sliced radishes which added a nice texture and taste. Let’s not forget about the cornbread with the softened honey butter! It was served in an individual cast iron skillet. All of the food that we tasted was yummy. I thought the service was excellent and the owner of the restaurant gave individual attention to the diners. Would I go back to this restaurant the next time I am in Los Angeles? Yes!!! Hands down!!!! I give it two thumbs up for the food and the service.

This was our first visit to Post & Beam after hearing about it through friends. And when I tell you this place was incredible?? It was absolute food heaven!! 😋 And the best part is it’s black owned! Be prepared to set your taste buds ablaze—every single dish was incredible! We started off with the catfish nuggets and cornbread appetizers it was simply scrumptious. The catfish was crunchy and packed with a delicious smokey flavor, and so well seasoned while the cornbread was light and fluffy. For our entrees my husband had the jerk catfish with dirty rice but swapped the rice for fingerling potatoes and a side of brussel sprouts. I had the garlic roasted chicken with a side of Mac and cheese and greens and the kids both ordered pizza. I cannot express enough how delicious every single dish was. To top it off, we ordered the brownie a la mode, and the berry cheesecake for desert. Please know, there are food levels and then there is Post & Beam. Be prepared to try everything on the menu. Incredible!! And I HAVE to mention that the customer service was 10 star! We were served with a smile by every single person who came to our table and there were many. Be prepared to be treated like a VIP here! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Culinary Gem Worth the Drive! I have had the pleasure of dining at Post and Beam on multiple occasions, and it was absolutely worth the drive! This restaurant is a hidden gem that exceeded my expectations in every way. This restaurant is pretty far for me, but it is worth the drive every time Here are The dishes I have enjoyed so far… Corn Bread with Whipped Honey Butter The meal kicked off with this delightful starter that set the tone for the entire experience. The cornbread was warm, moist, and paired perfectly with the light and airy whipped honey butter. A fantastic start to the meal! These vegan crab cakes were a revelation! The flavors were spot-on, and the texture was surprisingly similar to traditional crab cakes. A great option for both vegans and non-vegans alike. The shrimp & grits were a highlight of my meal. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the grits were creamy and well-seasoned, a delightful complement. A must-try for seafood lovers! The jerk catfish had just the right amount of spice and flavor. The dish showcased the chef's expertise in balancing bold and nuanced tastes. A unique and delicious choice. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with savory goodness. The portion size was generous, and the accompanying sides elevated the dish to perfection. Mac N' Smoked Cheese, Herbed Breadcrumbs Even as a non-vegetarian, I thoroughly enjoyed this vegetarian dish. The mac n' cheese was creamy, and the herbed breadcrumbs added a delightful crunch. A great option for vegetarians and omnivores alike. The Brussels sprouts were divine. The maple balsamic glaze added a sweet and tangy note, and the butternut squash puree was a delicious accompaniment. A fantastic vegetarian and gluten-free option. The smoked potatoes were a delightful surprise. The white remoulade added a zesty kick, and the dish was a satisfying combination of smokiness and creaminess. Finally…my favorite Braised Oxtail Grilled Cheese: This dish was a symphony of flavors! The oxtail was perfectly braised, and the combination with the grilled cheese was a match made in heaven. A rich and satisfying indulgence. In addition to the outstanding food, the ambiance was warm, and the service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. While the restaurant is a bit of a drive for me, I can confidently say that Post and Beam is a culinary destination worth the journey. I look forward to returning soon to explore more of their delectable offerings!

I visited Post & Beam during my trip to LA for brunch and my experience was great. Great, attentive staff and even better food and drinks. For food I tried the fried oysters, braised oxtail hash and a couple of sides including the pancakes. I don’t even eat pancakes but I would order those every time I went back. For drinks I tried the Hurricane and Foxy Brown. Everything was A1. Definitely the best food and drinks that I’ve had while in LA. Please do not hesitate to stop by.

Amazing food! I’ve tried this place on three different occasions, and every dish is very good. I think their portions are small for the price and location. Oxtail grilled cheese - wow. Must order. My favorite. Shrimp & grits - small portions but creamy rich flavor w soft shrimp Jerk catfish - again small portions but rice is well flavored. Cornbread - classic take and well done. I’ve only been to the restaurant to sit down once, and unfortunately the service is impeccably slow. We dined on a Tuesday night, not many people present at all, but took 10-30 minutes to order drink, for drink to come, to ask for bill, to receive bill.

This place is amazing. My family and I were in town, and were recommended this place for our large group, and needless to say, everything about it was phenomenal. The service, the food, the ambiance is all 5 star! 3 days in a row we made sure to spend our money here when we wanted good food and drinks.

It was my first visit. We have to show proof of vacation, which was not a problem. The Simple southern food menu is FREAKING FANTASTIC! SEASONED WITH PERFECTION AND LOVE.. THE STAFF IS GREAT! SHOUT OUT TO THE YOUNG WOMAN HOSTESS WITH THE SUSPENDERS ON HER JEANS AND THE WAITRESS WITH THE MEDUSA TATTOO, YOU GUYS MADE OUR EVENING.

Probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. My friend got the oxtail hash and it was incredible as well. I loved the outdoor seating && live music, felt like you were at home at a family cookout. I will be back for more. Oh & it's proudly BLACK OWNED

Service was top knotch fast friendly service. The food was amazing I had poached eggs, braised ox tails "shreaded" on top of country potatoes. Of course unlimited mimosa's then added a bloody Mary with a shot of Tito's. Loved the atmosphere & the music was an nice soothing touch. If I could give them a thousand stars I would.

Free-standing, spiffy and friendly location that has become an area institution. The new owner-chef Cleveland has upped the game with even a more diverse and substantially flavored menu of dishes -- the "personal" pizzas are abundanza and alone make the place worthy of destination dining.

Drove way from Vegas to try this place and was not disappointed. I had the oxtail hash and it was delicious. The ambience was great, and the live music was as well. Definitely looking forward to my return to LA, this is going to become one of my forever stops.

French toast was fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Drinks are ripe and the bacon is damn good.

While in town recently I was referred to this place for dinner. I found the service very friendly and knowledgable, and the food to be very good. I had the cast iron chicken and collards. I would visit again.

12/10 Food is amazing. Kudos to the chef. If you complain about the food, then you’re just one of those unpleasable humans because the food was amazing. And like any quality restaurant with good food, you may have to wait a bit, and it may be a little busy but that’s expected. The food was fresh and served in good portions. The atmosphere was lovely. Good music, good vibe. I live over an hour away, and I’d drive here just to support this black owned business.

Stopped in for brunch before a flight home. Reservations suggested!! The host was nice and seated my friend and I! I love when I can see the chef preparing all of the lovely foods and they were lively indeed. The smoked wings were falling off the bone and flavorful, the catfish nuggets were fresh and crisped to perfection. The shrimp and grits are divine. Plus the mimosas were flowing. Awesome service, nice decor, plenty of parking and a cute patio. I give it a 10/10. Anytime I return to LA, post & beam is definitely on the itinerary

I really loved my experience at Post & Beam. It honestly was one of my favorite experiences since moving to LA. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left I truly enjoyed myself. The ambiance, the customer service, the delicious food and drinks, and the dope violinist was chef’s kiss. This was my first time dining at this restaurant and I came for brunch for my birthday and I truly had a wonderful time. It was a fun, cozy vibe. I met the owner and he was so fun and just a really nice guy and checked on me and my friend to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I really felt like a queen. I loved our waitress! She was so nice and down to earth and had great recommendations. I was so excited about the food I forgot to take pics of it 😭. But just know my plate was clean and stomach was full! I will definitely be back! Don’t think about coming here just come! It’s amazing 😍

My wife and I were visiting from Detroit and Post and Beam did not disappoint. The salmon croquettes were some of the best that we have had anywhere. My oxtail hash was delicious (just a little more meat would’ve been amazing). My wife enjoyed her shrimp grits with the rock shrimp. Bottomless mimosas were a plus as well. Also, good music just flows in the background for an overall enjoyable time. Shout out to our server Taalam (I hope that is right) and another young man that helped us out as well. We will definitely be coming back the next time we visit LA.

A wonderful, clean, upscale, Black-Owned bistro, with great food and EXCELLENT customer service!! One of the things I love about this restaurant is that ALL of the times I've dined here through the years, I've NEVER seen a dog (any type of animal, period) in their establishment and I LOVE IT! I feel safe here and and it smells like good food instead of smelling like a disgusting dog park like other eateries who don't care about their dogless customers. The customer service and the food here is TOP TIER 👌🏾 😋!!! I love POST & Beam💛. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The atmosphere, staff, and food was all 5 stars. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile. We were set immediately & we’re able to order drinks and appetizers with minutes of sitting. The cornbread was delicious- there were four of us, we ordered two and ate 1 and 1/2 of it. Our table got the gumbo, vegan crab cakes, regular crab cakes, and shrimp and grits. Everything was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meal. I am definitely coming back.

Last Sunday, we went to brunch for Jamie's birthday. The spot was called Post & Beam in LA. We made a reservation for patio seating. It was busy, so we still had a little wait when we arrived. We started off with Jerk Chicken Wings. I had the Oxtail Hash with a side of waffle. Tasha had the chicken and waffle with a side of scrambled cheese eggs. The birthday girl had a Ribeyes with eggs and potatoes. Everything was so good! Can't forget the bottomless mimosas! Very chill, 90s R&B type of atmosphere/vibe. Definitely a place we'd visit again!

I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across a black-owned spot serving up a delicious brunch and great drinks. Post & Beam does not disappoint on food quality. We ordered chicken & waffles (not pictured) and the pecan pie French toast with a side of eggs and bacon. Everything came out top-notch, and quite honestly, that was one of the best French toasts I've ever had. The eggs came out perfectly scrambled and seasoned. I washed it all down with a ginger mojito, which was as unique as it was satisfying. The vibe was also a hit. While hidden in the corner of a shopping center, you almost forget where you are, and you're immediately hit with the sounds of comfort and enjoyment when you walk in. It's like a little food oasis in an area that isn't known for its top-notch food excursions. The down-side: service. To be clear, everyone who helped serve us - including the host - was super nice. This is simply a note to the management that execution of the meal needs to tighten up. My friend's meal came out with my sides about 10 minutes before my entree. The servers didn't know who ordered what. My sides were cold by the time my entree arrived, and the waffles came out with no syrup. Upon my friend asking for a straw for his water, the server came back with a stirrer. None of this is terrible. It didn't impact the quality of the food or my willingness to return. Just noting some work that needs to be done. 🫶

Supporting my black folks and there's always a little chaos. But the food was good and the service was great. Months later and I returned for brunch again and must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The pancake was delicious. I still love the vegan crab cakes. The bottomless mimosas were cool. Our waitess was Hadassah (hopefully spelled correctly) and she was fantastic! Very personable and she was on it with our bottles!! The one thing I would have to suggest is to not have the gardener cutting the trees in front of the restaurant while people are walking in and while people are eating outside. We had the loud noise and the smell of gas for most of our brunch which was the only downfall. But we will be back again!

I really like this place. The food was great. There was no long wait for seating. There was no long wait to receive our food once ordered. Mixed feelings about the bartender for a couple of reasons. He seem a little unprofessional with some ladies having brunch. He spoke as if they knew each other, but his tone was still inappropriate for the establishment. I ordered a Cosmopolitan... hated it! It taste watered down, and very sour (like a lemon 🍋). It's supposed to be tart not sour....👎🏽 The service could have been a little better, but I'm sure its because our server was slightly overwhelmed, the customers kept arriving around the same time and it got busy really fast. Non-the-less, I will definitely return for dinner. The menu looks wonderful 😋 Can't wait!

What I loved: - Violinist!!! He was phenomenal. Loved listening and watching him play during brunch. What a fun experience. - Cat fish nuggets - I can eat 100 of them. Get them! Dip them in the sauce and it's a flavor packed mouthful. - The vibe - outdoor seating, quiet area. Great brunch spot. - Unlimited mimosas - always a plus for those who partake. The other entrees we got were not bad too.

I’m very happy to have tried this place for dinner, It was excellent. I had the jerk catfish as my main course and it was cooked perfectly. There is clearly a reason that this restaurant was a semi finalist for the 2022 James Beard award for outstanding restaurant. The staff were also wonderful and very friendly and enthusiastic to answer all of my questions. I will definitely be back.

Heard lots of hype for post and beam lately so I decided to give it a try. Ordered the bloody Mary and oxtail hash for brunch and the experience could be better, but it's ok. Best part of the meal is the oxtail hash, although I was expecting the oxtail to be more tender and rich, what I got seems more like a leaner beef roast. Cut of the meat aside, the flavor was good, and I enjoyed the dish. Service and drinks can definitely be worked on. Service was friendly, but really slow, and it's obvious our waiter was kind of new. As for the drinks, the cocktail menu is limited, and only offer the usual Bellini, Mimosa, and bloody Mary.

K

Friendly and attentive staff. Good they carry drafts from local brewery. Nice and balanced breading on catfish appetizer. Mac n cheese has a good flavor but could be better with a bit of crust. Shrimp and grits were good...new change up for me with beef bacon. The dish I would go back for is the cast iron chicken...loved every bite...even soaked up the gravy with the blackeyed peas n rice!!

The fish nuggets & cornbread were ok at best. There special in-house hot sauce was ok. They tell you to be careful because its really HOT 🔥 😏 but it's NOT. But still tasty. The hurricane drink 🍸 was also a warning ⚠️ 😳 that it was strong 💪 and I was very concerned because I'm a light weight. NOT strong at all but nice . The service and atmosphere was very nice. From the young lady who sat us down, the waitress, the cook behind the bar area to the managers ....all very above average service and greetings. Never had to look for someone to do refills or ask for something. Its the little things that bring people back. "I'll Be Back !"

My southern roots appreciated most of the dishes, especially the cornbread and honey butter. I expected more of the gumbo, but it was still tasty. The cocktail selection was quite good, classics and house specialties. Our waitress was great, gave good suggestions and treated us well. We'll definitely go again.

This place has an amazing vibe. I was greeted warmly at the front desk. We did not have reservations. We were able to get in right away, although look like all the tables were pretty full. The server took forever to get our drink orders which were pretty simple. Arnold Palmer water. I ordered the gumbo which was phenomenal with the exception of my burnt bread. My husband ordered the short ribs which he ate every morsel I asked for more bread and hope that the server would recognize that my bread was burnt to a crisp. I never got my extra garlic bread because he kept forgetting I finally asked him if he thought that my bread was burnt and he resisted but finally succumbed to yes it was burnt but never tried to fix it in any way shape or form To add insult to injury, he was really quick about getting our bill to us.

Great atmosphere! Music is great! Service is great, very considerate and attentive staff. My main gripe is what we came for- the food!!! The food was delicious, but the portions, who is this for? Models and children? $23 for French toast- I'm just curious where they found this TINY loaf of bread! I wasn't expecting to leave hungry, honest. Flavors, phenomenal, portions, definitely lacking. For the price and the prep time, not worth it. I thought it'd come with a side. Maybe I'm giving off "should have just gone to Denny's" energy but it's gonna be a no for me. Also, take the rails off of the shrimp, up it to six and you've got a good dish. Up the portions and I'll probably come back... For now, it's a no for me. I typically leave great reviews but leaving a restaurant hungry is never a good feeling! Omw to McDonald's lol

Ok food, ok service. #fishgrits #deviledeggs #steaks I asked the server if the lights work that’s in the trees, crickets, no response. Guess not. Mac and cheese, horrible. Black eyed peas, horrible. Fish and grits were good, Pinot Gris was good. Steak was decent...

I was so excited to have my birthday dinner here. I had been wanting to go for a few years. Gathered my family and we went tonight. Although the food was good. The service and simply trying to pay wasn’t. 1. We ordered items they didn’t know was out. 2. I simply tried to add tomatoes to my salad and was told “ if I put that on the notes, they’ll get mad”. Followed by there may not be any tomatoes prepared which would also cause a problem. I then ordered something to be separated for a to go order and after paying was told there was a mistake on my charges and I in fact hadn’t paid for the to go order because the waitress mistakenly added my order to another tables order. After some confusion I offered to give the side dish of Brussels back and was told I could keep them as a comp. The waitress then came back and took them back after repeatedly saying she didn’t add them to my order. It was very frustrating and disappointing for my birthday dinner.

Melanin Market had a vendor event at the mall but no food trucks and someone mentioned this restaurant, said it was black owned, and walked over. Was told it would be approx 30 min and were seated In the time frame. After that all things went downhill from there. Upon being seated we were there for 15-20 min and no one greeted us. I then had to ask for help. The server told us that when we were sat she was asked to take a break, basically we were seated with no intent to help us for timeframe of her break. Since we waited they offered us 1 slice of cornbread for a party of 4. After ordering our food we waited another 40 min to receive it. Management told us that kitchen wasn’t prepped for dinner (a restaurant should be prepped for the day in the morning). I don’t understand why tell me you were on your dinner menu, and they knew we were waiting to be seated to not be ready. At this point I’m double mad and hungry!!! I ordered fish n grits with macaroni and cheese. It was just ok, nothing my belly will remember. Nobody didn’t have room to enjoy anything and we had to pay for it. They also offered to cover 1 drink. Never again I can’t recommend it.

Food: 30 lin to get 2 lemonades. 45 min to get 1/2 of the appetizer ordered. We ordered devilled eggs and a side of grilled shrimp. The grilled shrimp came out in 45 min. The deviled eggs came out close to10 min later leaving the shrimp cold. The devilled eggs were delicious and the grilled shrimp were well cooked. Our mains came our soon after we finished our appetizers. We ordered blackened catfish and grits with smoked bacon. It was very tasty, but the grits were very watery and the catfish overcooked. We were never checked on and had to flag down our waiter for salt or to check on our food or drinks. Host & Service: To start the greeting was not great. The Hostess just stared until I asked for a table for 2. She then asked if Ai had reservations and I told her we did not. She said all tables inside and out were booked and I could only sit at the bar. At that time on 2 tables outside had seated guests and 4 tables inside. 1.5 hours later, only half the inside tables were seated and 25% of the outside tables. That is awful customer service.

Waiters were nice, but service was slow and poor. My daughter ordered a waffle that never arrived, my biscuits were hard and stale, and although the waiter recommended the salmon croquettes, they tasted like nothing I’ve ever had! The homemade hot sauce was just not it. No heat lamps where we sat on the patio, and it was a chilly day. The violinist was the best thing about this dining experience!

Had birthday dinner reservations at 5 on a Sunday only to arrive and discover they were sold out of their popular items. There were no Jerk wings, no spaghetti, only 2 pizza options out of the 4 on the menu, no fish nuggets, and no shrimp butter. We considered the shrimp and grits but were told eggs were not included despite it being listed on the menu. We ordered the Jerk catfish and dirty rice. It came out fried and with white rice that was mushy. Service was EXTREMELY SLOW. The waitress was nice, but she brought 1 round of drinks and never came back to check to see if we wanted another round or if we needed anything. Might I add, I ordered a cantaloupe martini, and it was served in a wine glass. I was highly disappointed and will not be back. The birthday dinner was ruined.

Like a lot of people here, I was really excited to support a black owned restaurant, especially one that looked high end or classy. However, I was highly disappointed. The atmosphere and music were nice. Unfortunately you can’t eat atmosphere & music and that was the only good thing about this establishment. I had the braised short ribs, shrimp & grits, collard greens, Mac & Cheese, and cornbread. The food was nasty. I mean every single item I ate. It was either salty (short ribs), dry (cornbread), or watery (grits). As for the service, it was OK, nothing special. I really wanted to like this place but the overall experience was very disappointing. Definitely won’t be back.
