Went for our anniversary and had a delightful time. Started with a little skunk on the pathway to restaurant but then the twinklie lit garden was a perfect setting under a heat lamp to keep us cozy. We had minestrone soup and polenta with champignon mushrooms followed by lasagna and Polllo Voldostana. All was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was super friendly, helpful and timely checking in on us the right amount. Loved our dinner at Luna....highly recommend.
Love. Love. Love this place. Ordered the Mare & Tera and the cesar salad with salmon. Everything was perfect. Table service was on point, even dining on the second floor. The proportions were large yet I was able to enjoy and finish every last bite. They were very generous with the garlic, but to the point where it wasn't overwhelming. If anything, the bread that they bring out was topped with cheese. It was good but slightly dry. Of course, that isn't the main dish and not even close to the main dish's level in flavor. This place totally deserves 5 stars.
Cannot rave enough. The staff was super accommodating at squeezing us in during a limited time period. Every step of the way they were both helpful and attentive. Wine-wise we enjoyed both the super Tuscan and Sangiovese. The food though really impressed. Every item was boasting with flavor, even the sides (the asparagus might have been the best that I ever had). The carbonara pasta, the calamari, the chicken, all of it was delicious and plentiful enough that we took a little home. As an snobbish New Yorker, this place truly met the mark on good Italian cuisine.
Best restaurant in Fort Bragg. We went on a Saturday night and they had live music. The decor is interesting and the staff is very friendly. We ordered pasta and our food was so good we had no leftovers. Warning: the free bread is very good so don't overload too much before the entree is served.
gorgeous dog friendly patio. sweet live music at night. incredible no frills classic italian. great portion sizes. you gotta try it out!!
Luna Trattoria was a truly exceptional experience. The garden provides a fantastic atmosphere for a meal to remember. Plenty of patio heaters ensure a comfortable outdoor environment. The gnocchi were light and pillowy (maybe better than my grandmother's). We'll definitely be back.
There is a long but easily walkable straight cute path from the road to the restaurant. Lovely little walk but a wheelchair might have challenges if self propelled. There is inside seating on the main floor and upstairs. There is also seating on the outside balcony and bottom backyard area. When we went there was seating at 5pm and 7pm with the kitchen closing around 8pm. We enjoyed our steak and pasta. Fun wine selection with local options. It was expensive but not outrageous for a nice date night. Spent around $127 for two people: appetizer, 2 meals, 2 glasses on wine, 1 dessert. They even provided a complementary Lemoncello shot for us both! We had a lovely time and will visit again.
This is the type of place you would recommend and rave about to friends and family. I can see why it is so popular. MAKE A RESERVATION or you will missed out. Authentic Italian with amazing unique dishes at an affordable price! The owner is from central italy: Romagna. He was out serving customers and is very personable! Once seated, service and food was A+, fast and efficient. Cleanliness was top notch even with Covid circumstance. The garden area is beautiful with tables that are spaced out and heat lamps provided. The menu is large with lots of specials. Keep in mind, portions are large/ shareable and many customers are leaving with leftovers! All the dishes were AMAZINGLY delicious. I ordered: Bruschetta combo the orecchioni with pesto Penne al sangiovese Tiramisu Espresso Dinner also came with warm bread/ olive oil/ balsamic vinegar. All of them were so impressive. If I were to recommend THE dish to have, it is definitely the penne al Sangiovese. It was so unique, rich with red wine cream sauce. Worth coming to Mendocino just for this!
The walkway into the restaurant is adorable, especially at night with the lights on. The inside was bustling, but charming. The staff was really friendly, the pours were generous (I believe they only have wine and beer, so look elsewhere if you’re looking for cocktails). The Chicken Parmesan was very tasty, though I wasn’t sure why potato wedges were a side for that dish. The vegetarian lasagna was also good, I liked the pink sauce. I wasn’t sure how I felt about peas in lasagna, but it actually worked well with the other flavors. The handmade green lasagna sheets in it were a new one for me, but I really enjoyed them. Overall, a charming and delicious experience in a beautiful town!
Granted, I have never been to Italy but this is by far the best Italian food I have ever had. Everything is so fresh and full of flavor! My husband and I first discovered Luna Trattoria by accident last year. When we returned to Fort Bragg last weekend for a family getaway, we had to bring everyone to taste the yumminess! The family loved it so much we had dinner here two nights in a row! I fell in love with the Penne Sangiovese last year and of course, had to have it again this time around. On our second night, I tried the Penne Boscaiola and it was even tastier than the Sangiovese! My daughter loved the Linguine alla Vongole and ordered it both nights. My brother and dad had the Cioppino the first night and the Bisteca alla Luna the second night. There was no shortage of seafood in the Cioppino and the linguine was overflowing with clams. The bisteca was done to perfection and came out just as ordered. I highly recommend Luna Trattoria to anyone visiting Fort Bragg. Oh, and be sure to save room for dessert! It was heavenly!
We discovered this incredible little gem, down the side street, and then down an even more adorable pathway in Mendocino. The Linguini and Clams were special in a way that brought back decade old memories of a trip to Italy. The hand made in house pasta with butternut squash was one of the finest pastas to cross my lips. Gnocchi and Pesto, yep, had that too. If I had the money, I might have just toured the menu all night. The waiter suggested and paired a lovely set of wines and I am waiting on my dessert to arrive now. Although it is not an easy place to frequent, I can easily justify hours of road travel to do so. I can not wait to return!!!
Felt like home. Food was really good. Classic bruschetta was out of this world. Funnghi porcini ravioli was great.
Great atmosphere 👌 Just go check it out.i don't want to spoil it, be surprised at the outset.sit outdoors if you can. Really good food, I'm mean, really good. Best spaghetti carbonarra I've had,it's not too rich but it does taste like bacon and eggs(sooo good!).I ordered the Linguine alle Vongole (clams) with GLUTEN-FREE linguine.I cleared my plate, it was delicious but not the best G-free pasta but that's rare anyways. Probably my fault because the waitress suggested the fusilli pasta instead(also gluten free). I will gladly return on another beautiful mendocino evening 🙏
We celebrated our anniversary with dinner here….sat outside in a beautiful space with gorgeous flowers everywhere. Fantastic atmosphere! Our waitress was superb and was very knowledgeable to any of our questions. It was the best Italian food (and vino!) that we’ve had in a very long time. It was our first time at Luna’s , but it won’t be the last!
When you go to this place you are greeted with a nice path through trees and flowers lit with stringed lights. The pasta we ordered was quite good and out dessert (creme brulee) was also tasty. If you go to this place during prime dinner hours don't expect to be seated right away, as the place is small and very popular.
Can I please give it 10⭐s? Ah-maze-ing!!! Most probably the BEST Italian food I've ever had by God's grace! You can see them make the fresh pasta! For a moment you would think that you're in a coastal town in Italy! And the service was fantastic! Mama Mia, Bellissimo e Meraviglioso! Grazie mille!
We saw a little trail with a sign saying Luna Trattoria was open. So we took it. The path was well worth it. Best Italian dinner I’ve had in California. They have gluten free pasta that you wouldn’t know was gluten free if you didn’t know.
Absolutely amazing meals and dining experience! Very friendly and helpful staff. Broad menu of very authentic Italian food. We dined two nights in a row and look forward to our next opportunity. That was from our first visit in 2019. In 2025 we are still travelling to Mendocino and still coming to Luna during every trip. Usually we make multiple visits within a week. The food is still exactly the same - perfect. It's all amazingly flavorful and delicious. We have explored the menu and it's all top quality. The service is always excellent. Luna is very busy basically all the time. Make a reservation. The garden dining area is beautiful, but it's usually cold out there, even with the outdoor heaters.
We were served by Jessica who was amazing at her job in making us feel comfortable and even at home. She gave us recommendations that she personally tried and everyone in my party enjoyed it. Josh was also amicable and ensured we enjoyed our dishes. Overall felt like a homey experience even when we walked in 30min before closing, and especially after we waited an hour at a different restaurant waiting for the food to come. Can’t wait to visit here again :-)
We sat on the patio at 1730 with our Giant Schnauzer in tow. The owner met us at our table and was very accommodating. He brought out 3 different red wines so that I could taste each one before deciding which one I would drink with my meal. They were all good Italian reds. I ordered the Linguini with clams and my wife ordered the green ravioli stuffed with porcini mushrooms. Both dishes were very tasty and perfectly cooked. The service was excellent. I highly recommend the Luna Trattoria. One suggestion: bring your appetite. There are too many wonderful items on the menu and I would've liked to try them all. Perhaps someday I will get that opportunity.
This place was packed so highly recommend reservations (which we had). Always a good sign! The calamari were perfectly fried and the cocktail sauce was unique and delicious (not too sweet). The Caesar was on point and the carbonara was done the correct way and very yummy. Reasonably priced delicious wines as well. Cute atmosphere and the service was great!
Came here based on TikTok video review. We had the Caprese salad, Ravioli, and Lasagna. Gigi was our server and was very informative on the menu. I went with her recommendation of the Lasagna which was perfectly balanced with pasta, sauce, and meat. Had Affogato and Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert. Celebrated our Anniversary and couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Highly recommend!!! (Sorry, I forgot to take photos of our food…)
My Christmas present to myself is a trip to my favorite haunt on the coast. Located in the heart of beautiful Mendocino California, this gem is a must to try when you visit. The owners have brought the best of Italy to Northern California and everyone that enters is treated like family. The staff is very knowledgeable, entertaining and extremely attentive. The atmosphere both inside and outside is second to none with every detail thought of and shared with you. I have tried everything on the menu so you can not go wrong with any of the meals deserts or specials, while their beer and wine list pairs perfectly. I had the Carbonara which was bravissimo… celebrate a holiday meal or special occasion here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We went to this restaurant two nights in a row while we were in Mendocino. Both times we were a walk-in so sat upstairs but the garden looked wonderful and so much more inviting so I would recommend booking in advance for a table there. The food was delicious - we tried stuffed mushrooms, pasta with sausage and mushrooms sauce, lasagne, meatballs and chicken parmigiana. The staff were kind and made sure we had a good evening on both nights. Highly recommend.
This is a restaurant you absolutely have to go to. I came here for my mom's birthday on a Saturday evening and we absolutely loved our entire experience. The staff are friendly, the location feels authentically Italian, and the food tastes so too. The staff are friendly and the restaurant has a beautiful garden. I highly recommend trying their ravioli and then creme brule for dessert. The one thing I would advise is to come early on the classically busy restaurant days because the restaurant will be crowded, especially with locals who seem to frequent the establishment (another sign for us that this is a great restaurant).
Dining at Luna Trattoria was truly one of the most magical experiences of our trip. From the moment we stepped off the street and walked down the little path into their secret garden, we knew we were in for something special. The setting was beautiful twinkling lights, warm ambiance, and amazing live music floating through the air. It felt like we had stumbled into a hidden gem. Our server was incredible so welcoming and full of personality. He shared stories from his time in Italy that made the whole meal feel personal and authentic. It was easily some of the best service we had during our entire trip he made us feel completely at home. As for the food, the carbonara was absolutely delicious rich, comforting, and hands-down one of the standout dishes we had along the north coast. We left full, happy, and already talking about when we can come back. Luna Trattoria is a must-visit, and we can’t wait to return
Best Italian food I've had in years. It seems like pasta is the star of their menu so pick whatever looks good, you can't go wrong. My wife enjoyed a glass of a local wine which was a plentiful pour! Our only regret is that we didn't stay for dessert. Definitely prioritise eating here if you're in the area. Arrive before 530pm -- they don't take reservations and they get super busy! But it's that good!
My daughter and her husband have said that this is one of their favorite restaurants in Mendocino, CA. All of us went their last night and it was fantastic. They have a nice back garden setting and several tables inside. The food is fantastic - the service was pretty good but like most restaurants right now getting people to come back to work is challenging. I met the owner and he is passionate about their food and his restaurant. He also had a nice singer/guitarist playing nice music during dinner. They have an early seating (5pm) and a 7pm late seating. You do need a reservation. We started with a Caesar Salad before our main course. They serve a nice mixture of bread with oil and balsamic on the side. We each had different dishes: Penne al Sangiovese, Penne al Salmone, Farfalle California and Spaghetti Carbonara. The dishes were fantastic with great flavors, very nice sauces (not overly sauced-just right amount) and nice sized servings. We ended with their Chocolate Cheesecake that was really nice.
Cozy interiors settings. Feels like an Air B&B cabin got rented out as a restaurant for the week. Bruschetta had such a burst of garlic. Calamari was deep fried and crunchy, served with a marinara sauce that had a good punch of horseradish. Thank you for your generous pour of full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. For $7 a glass, it was one of the best glasses I’ve had at an Italian restaurant. Matt got a house favorite dish that came with steak and prawns over fettuccine. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth good. They use a hearty amount of spices to come to the flavor of the fettuccine. I got the vegetarian lasagna and my mouth melted at every bite. Had peas and zucchini and eggplant yum! Super fluffy tiramisu. Go for the desserts, they’re only $7 or so and totally complete the experience. True Italian food with huge flavor for a reasonable price. Stash organic tea served. Credit cards accepted. Plenty of street parking out front.
There are numerous great restaurants in Mendocino, but Luna stands out. Their triple threat of superb food, service and atmosphere sets them apart. The food is primarily traditional Italian and is executed perfectly. The service is quick without being overbearing and everyone appears to love working there. The garden dining is amazing and the interior is filled with eclectic art. Highly recommended!
Took my beautiful wife for her birthday to this lovely restaurant and it was definitely a treat. We tried the Tortelli al Funghi Porcini since we usually like trying the most popular dishes from restaurants. It was perfectly balanced with the ravioli, mushroom, and sauce. We also tried the Spaghetti Carbonara which was definitely both of our favorite. It was suggested by our server Alessio as he said it was the "Best in the West" and he was not wrong. The dish was light, the pancetta wasn't overpowering at all, but it still packed an extremely powerful punch full of italian flavor in every bite. Of course, I literally had to lick the plate clean (con permiso!) Added the Cannoli for dessert which was immaculate and a must! We didn't have an opportunity to sit outside or have live musicians which we are sure would've been the cherry on top. Our server was fun and the helper was very attentive. Thanks for the great service Alessio!
This Italian restaurant is one of our absolute favorites. We keep going back, and it truly never disappoints. The homemade pastas are outstanding, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with so much care. The portions are very generous. The service is always excellent, the food is amazing, and the live music really sets the vibe. The guitarist is incredibly talented, with a beautiful voice and a great selection of songs that make the whole experience even more special. I highly recommend making a reservation before going, as it’s always super busy, and that alone says a lot about the quality of the food and service. A must-visit spot!
Absolutely AMAZING. An excellent fine dining experience. The place was completely full, and for good reason! The stuffed mushrooms were the best I've ever had. The seafood dishes we got were fresh and high quality. Everything was perfect. I will definitely come back again! Thank you for making our vacation so wonderful!!
Great Italian place to visit while in Mendocino, its menu is on the traditional upscale side with separate sections for appetizers, salads, pastas, and then entrees. We shared a serving of the chicken parmesan cause of is healthy size and it was excellent. The sauce had a nice little zang and there wasn't too much cheese. The side of asparagus was grilled perfectly and flavored with perfect amount of pepper. We finished with their Italian Creme Brulee which was typed with fresh fruit. This type of Brulee is thinner but has the same delicious flavor. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and made our special dinner night great. Being on the coast the place is cozy as many buildings are not large, but we appreciated they try to sit people away from one another when not busy. I'd highly recommend if looking for a place to have a nice night out, but definitely get a reservation well in advance if during busy times of the year.
I had an incredible time here and it easily exceeded my expectations! The food was amazing across the board, but the tiramisu was a total standout—absolutely yum. The hospitality great !! I highly recommend sitting outside; the music and the vibe are just awesome and really elevate the whole meal. If you’re in Mendocino, you definitely shouldn't miss this spot!
A MUST to try! We celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary tonight and we are so glad we chose this restaurant. The food and wine (Gavi Castellari) were fantastic. My wife had the Caesar salad and the FETTUCCINE GAMBERI AND ZUCCHINI (Excellent)! I had the minestrone and the LINGUINI ALLE VONGOLE (Excellent). There really are NO words to describe these two pasta dishes. For dessert we chose PANNA DELLA ZIA CON AMARETTI and AFFOGATO AL CAFFE. Luna has a very good atmosphere for a dining experience. The restaurant was full of customers and there was a nice buzz of conversation and music. The restaurant is nicely decorated. A huge shout out to our waiter, Alessio! He was very professional and personable. He explained in detail the differences with some of the dishes and helped to make our decisions much easier. He really added to our Luna experience. The rest of the staff was great, also.
Luna's has, hands down, the best Italian food I've ever eaten. They're a bit pricey, so we don't eat here more than a couple times a year, but the price is well worth the high quality food, good size portions, excellent service, and wonderful atmosphere. If you can, sit in the patio. Especially after dark, the twinkle lights, candle light, heat lamps, and live music provide an ambiance that's second to none. The spaghetti carbonara is AMAZING, and authentic! No ingredients that aren't supposed to be in there! The minestrone soup is one of the best; just veggies and the most flavorful broth ever. The Farfalle California is also fantastic, and the house made foccacia they serve while you're waiting is so good.
Luna was top of the list for recommendations in the Mendocino area. We are so glad we stopped in for dinner. The food was incredible and the atmosphere is very cute. We would definitely come back again. One of those places where you can’t go wrong with anything.
Very good food. The potato croquette was excellent. The orecchioni with marinara sauce was good. The gnocchi with pesto sauce was okay. One complaint I have is that they are very difficult to reach on the phone. When the lady finally answered my call, she put me on hold and disappeared. Go for the food, and make sure to reserve a table in advance!
My wife and I recently stayed in a hotel on the coast and this was the last night of our stays dinner choice. It was superb we spent the same amount of money in Fort Bragg for food that was disappointing. However when we ate here the food was great. It was fresh and delicious. The portions were perfect not over filling like usual. I even saw the chef in the window making fresh gnocchi while we were leaving. Keep doing what your doing!
I visited Luna Trattoria to celebrate my anniversary, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I made a reservation a few days in advance and appreciated having multiple time options to choose from, along with the choice of seating upstairs or downstairs. Parking was easy, and I really enjoyed the short walk to the restaurant entrance. It added a lot to the overall ambiance and made the evening feel a little more special. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive without being overbearing, which made the experience even better. I do not eat at Italian restaurants very often, but I decided to go with the house special, the Spaghetti Carbonara. Every single bite was amazing. I could not have been more delighted. My girlfriend was just as happy with her meal, and we were both thoroughly impressed. This is a place I will be talking about for a while. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a memorable dining experience.
Owner Massimo comes from Ravenna and the food is authentic Italian trattoria food from Emilia-Romagna. Simple and delicious. Homemade pasta, including tortelli di zucca and lasagna. The pollo alla Bolognese was satisfying, especially if you have a big appetite. Service was prompt and friendly. The outdoor seating is the best choice, although if you are inside you might get Alessio as your waiter, a cheerful server from Montepulciano.
Fantastic Italian restaurant in a charming setting. The staff was very friendly and we met the owner as well. We went on a Saturday night at 6:30pm with our dog in mid December and had about a 30 minute wait for outdoor seating without a reservation. The service was great and food was authentic Italian. Free parking is available along the street.
We had the most wonderful 9th anniversary dinner at Luna Trattoria! The carbonara and linguini with clams were absolutely fabulous — rich, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The owner personally brought our dishes to the table and chatted with us about the wine, which made the evening feel extra special. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, a little tucked-away gem in Mendocino. And the tiramisu? Divine. We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in town!
Great collection of wines and an amazing North Italian menu! We dined in on a Friday night and I would highly recommend making a reservation. There was live music in the outdoor patio. Our server helped us pick out local Pinot Noirs from Anderson Valley and it did not disappoint! We loved that they had a wide varierty of choices for appetizers. For my entree, I had their Oven Baked Cod from their specials menu. It was fantastic!
Who doesn't want to eat home made pasta in a fairy garden?? It was a magical experience with absolutely amazing pasta. We got the house special, spaghetti carbonara and it was phenomenal. The penne al salmon was wonderful in a creamy vodka sauce. It was hard to find, but honestly it all added to the adventure and atmosphere of being tucked away in a secret garden
My friends and I were enchanted by this place from the moment we saw the entrance. We were then transported to a fantastic European feeling garden. We did not have a reservation so we did have to return at 7:15 pm in hopes we would be first on the list for the 8 pm start for walk ins. We returned right at 7:15 because everything we heard about this place made us believe it was going to be more than worth our time. While we waited, we loved being able to look at the menu, read the various signs on the walls, and even watch a man hand make all the raviolis. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, cracking jokes even between us and other tables. Each dish was unique and delicious in its own way. I would personally recommend the Pasta Sangiovese, even though it was not one of the handmade pasta dishes. It was hearty, flavorful, and not like any other on the menu. Whenever I'm back in Mendocino, I will be sure to make a reservation here, it is a can't miss spot!
I’m so happy I found this place! I didn’t have any expectations but this place blew my mind. The entrance feels like a secret entrance to a fairy tale garden as you walk in and the garden area for dining is so beautiful just like what you’d expect from the entrance. Food was out of this world as well. Especially the steak! I couldn’t believe how tender and flavorful the steak was. Gnocchi melted in the mouth as well. Been to many Michelin star restaurants in cities and this is one of the best restaurants I’ve been. Music was beautiful and really fit the vibe of the restaurant and service with Bonnie was very good as well. Cant wait to come back!
This was some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a long time. I had the homemade ravioli, tried the gnocchi, and the croquette appetizer. Everything was delicious. We tasted a variety of the desserts which were all really good as well. The service was great, especially considering we had a large table with some difficult people. The restaurant itself is also very cute and cozy to be in. I highly recommend it. I will mention the path to get into the restaurant is kind of long and tricky to navigate for elderly people or people with disabilities.
My wife and I recently stopped by this amazing little gem and I loved every second of it. From the fast seating, to even faster drink orders, this place had it all. This was some of the best service I have ever received in Cali, and also some of the best Italian food I have had on my trip. Honestly, I hope everyone has a chance to eat here. It was truly amazing and a perfect end to our vacation here :)
Delicious food at Luna! Started off with fried calamari ... delicious, crispy rings and tentacles lightly breaded and served with lemon wedges and a zippy cocktail sauce. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara which was well sauced, ample pieces of pancetta all through the dish, but it was a little salty. Dessert was Italian Crème Brûlée ... deliciously creamy with a crunchy sugar topping, sliced strawberry and blackberries. To die for! The staff was welcoming and friendly, always there to pour more water or ask if you needed anything. I will come back again.
Our family dinner here turned into such a great night. The kids loved their pasta plates and the adults enjoyed the depth of the flavors. Everything tasted freshly made and the atmosphere felt genuine and friendly.
Had a great dinner a couple of weeks back at this restaurant. It’s pretty packed for my dinner time slot at 5. Lots of diners placing their orders when we arrived. We had a great minestrone soup and 2 pasta dishes for the night. The soup was surprisingly light, compared to those I had elsewhere. My pasta had prawns and steak, both were juicy and well prepared. The pasta was really tasty! Do pop by for dinner if you are in town!
This was an unfortunate visit for us; I was very much looking forward to this dinner. The two homemade pastas were gone by 7 when we arrived one of which I had planned on getting but I fully understand - no issue there. I decided to pivot and I went with the chicken parm. It was... okay, nothing to write home about. I personally like a little crust on the breadcrumb but there wasn't a millimeter of chicken that wasn't covered in marinara. Okay...personal preference, not a problem and the marinara was good albeit everywhere. The cheese on top wasn't put under a broiler, if it was it was not for long enough. The cheese was barely melted let alone given some color. Fine, I can deal with that. What I couldn't deal with was the focaccia which was completely stale. Two types delivered to our table and both were stale. Let me be clear, I don't mean it wasn't piping hot and sponge like fresh out of the oven. I mean sitting on the counter for two days stale. We did have a creme brulee (I know not very Italian) and this was decent. Not much sugar crust on top but it was the best thing we were brought so I'll just leave it there. It was fine I looked at the reviews of this place, compared to the two other places we were visiting while in town and I was excited for authentic Italian cuisine - we didn't get it. Maybe everyone else does hence the positive reviews and it was just an off evening. It happens. Sadly we likely wont give it another shot, too many misses for us from start to finish especially when you have numerous other delicious options downtown.
A unique dining experience, great food with respectful & attentive staff. The appetizers, entrees and desserts are phenomenal but their foccacia SUCKED. Until they up their game, save your stomach space for the main attractions.
Lovely homemade pasta, pretty great wines. Cute, tucked-away garden restaurant with decent Italian food. Decor is odd and could be improved but the vibe is neighborly, friendly, and welcoming. Lovely wait staff - efficient but very warm and funny. We left late when the entire staff was already at their family meal and it did feel indeed like a family and instant community. Food was good - the sage butter tortellini were delicious if a bit too soft. Salads were fresh and delicious. Bolognese was good if not excellent. The wine was, however, excellent, helped by the selection of a Tuscan who served it. All in all, a warm and vibey place with decent food in the heart of lovely Mendocino.
Calamari Fritti: 5/5, great taste but portion size on the smaller side (no points deducted!) Porchini Ravioli: 5/5, very unique flavor! Spaghetti Ragu: 3/5, serviceable, decently executed but nothing to write home about. It was also a bit too sweet for my personal taste. Overall 4/5. It's a good restaurant and I would go back again.
We visited this restaurant during our trip to Mendocino and immediately loved the cozy, home-like atmosphere. We tried the Gnocchi with a half-and-half cream cheese and marinara sauce, the Farfalle della Nonna pasta, and finished with Tiramisu for dessert. Overall, the food was enjoyable—especially the Tiramisu, which was a standout! The cheese sauce on the gnocchi wasn’t quite to our taste, and the pasta had a bit more nutmeg than we prefer. Despite these small details, we had a pleasant dining experience and truly appreciated the warm, welcoming vibe.
Based on the rating we dined here. It was mediocre at best. Linguine vongole had a bunch of empty clam shells and the clams were no larger than a petite pea. It was just barely ok. My husband had the tortellini with porcini mushrooms. The porcini mushroom was totally absent. The mushrooms around the dish were just everyday white mushrooms. Terrible as false advertising. Does not deserve the high ratings as food was mediocre at best.
I really wanted to like this place because it was so cute. But... The waiter took ~15 minutes to refill my water (I finally had to ask, twice). The homemade lasagna itself was just okay... the flavor wasn't there and the noodles were *very* overcooked. I also thought the live music was too loud. I just wouldn't recommend it.
The place is gorgeous, I loved the little path to the actual restaurant. I am sure the outdoor seating would have been beautiful, but it had rained so it was closed. We were sat right away, but the food took forever. The waiters were super friendly, and the ambiance was great but the food was frankly underwhelming. I really wanted to love it, and perhaps it was the dish I chose but it could have been better.
I carefully picked Luna for a romantic dinner because of our anniversary. Our reservation was at seven. We were literally done eating at 7:25 and out by 7:45 ( only because I needed to use the restroom and it was full lol) We got : an appetizer , a salad, and two entrees: the entrees were the homemade pasta. - two glasses of wine. To say that we were rushed through dinner is an understatement- Backtrack to getting there- it is so cute and romantic walking down to the restaurant - very welcoming and appealing. Inside it is eclectic and warm. The music was really good - our server did amazing. We got the stuffed mushrooms and those could have been cooked longer and hotter. The Cesar salad with chicken was very good. The lasagna was nice and hot. My ravioli were not hot but warm. I def would recommend that the restaurant pay attention to the vibe of the clientele and their needs. Maybe stagger the courses for a more enjoyable relaxing dining experience and be sure that all the plates come out hot together. I would try it again but I’d be more vocal about the experience as I was there.
Really wanted to like this place. The ambience is solid, entrance interesting, and service was superb. The food was not great. The croquettes were super spicy, the polentas was as if came from a box (and we are in an Italian eatery) and the shrimps were dried and not well seasoned. The pasta was well done though. Yet the overall experience was not the best because of the mishaps with the rest of the food. The ravioli were awesome, which was something a local recommended and he was spot on. They had music in the yard and perhaps that would have made a difference for us, but instead we were taken to the second floor. Visit and have your own experience, but I think this was a one and done for me.
Having spent 4 years in Italy we were hopeful for a highly rated often fully-booked Italian restaurant.. this is not the one for us. It's under-seasoned and simple Italian food for those who don't know what a carbonara is (literally overheard), kinda like what you'd get at Italian night in a community center event.. But that tracks since the majority of the clientele were locals or looked the part.. we were seated with other mixed race couples away from the usual crowd. If you're the usual type to golf and drink all day out here, you will probably love it and their extensive wine list.
Two of us went for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Service was very slow, it took 20 minutes for someone to stop by and take a drink order. We ordered minestrone soup, caprese salad, the house steak and cioppino. The minestrone soup was bland and was just old vegetables. No pasta or beans. The caprese was ok but under seasoned, just slices of tomato and mozzarella with basil but almost no olive oil, salt or pepper. The house steak was almost inedible, swimming in salty gravy. The cioppino was the only dish we enjoyed. Dinner for two with one glass of wine each was about $130 with tip. Around 9pm one of the staff members, or maybe an owner, a woman, sat down at one of the tables nearby and watched loud TV on her phone while eating her dinner with her fingers. Very disrespectful to her customers.
Great spot, cute outdoor vibe with SALTY mediocre food. Excited to try as this spot highly recommended by SO MANY people (our bnb host, locals, neighboring spots). Came in without reservation, was third in line & started lining up 15 min before the restaurant opens. Able to get seated at the bar no problem. 5-star service by the servers but food fell short ..really short! Food would have been 4-star if not for being tooooo salty. Why so salty?? Everything was too salty, edible but way too salty. When asked if the dish is supposed to be this way, they said yes. We did not send anything back & just had our food ..first & last time. We were served with focaccia- not warm and rather dry. Tasted like it was made the day before and warmed up. I was told the Ragu was a pride & joy of the owner but unfortunately for me it lacked flavor, no depth and watery..almost taste just salty watery tomato sauce, with some minced beef & celery & carrot,. my dish tasted flat, too salty, watery and i dont know..i wouldnt call that pride & joy for sure! Ravioli was great but again..why so salty? Same with the side order of meatballs & croquette. Feedback for the host..would be great if the host can manage the line as people were cutting the lines & host didnt say anything, unpleasant and seem standoff-ish. Sadly can not recommend this place at all
So disappointed- was taken as a BD treat & my guests drove all the way from SR on my recommendation- pasta was Luke warm , server was very “ snippy” although rest of staff were lovely . Advertised full bar on web but only beer & wine - which was fine but when I mentioned it to server she bit my head off . Reserved 2 weeks ago. & asked for window seating - again , snippy reply but we were happy with booth . Best part of meal for whole table was the yummy bread
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. When I arrived, there were three of us waiting to be added to the list. The host acknowledged and registered the other two guests but completely ignored me without saying a single word. This treatment felt both rude and disrespectful. A restaurant’s first impression starts at the door, and unfortunately, the service I experienced from the host made me feel unwelcome.
We used to love this restaurant and have been a couple of times before, but our recent visit was so disappointing that we won't be back. We made a reservation for two and brought our six-week-old. We planned our weekend around it. It was our mistake not to book for three -- we're new parents and still figuring out how to navigate dining out with a baby. At other restaurants, this hasn't been an issue, so we didn't realize it would be a problem here. I don't normally write reviews. That said, the way it was handled was unnecessarily rude. Instead of showing even a little understanding or flexibility, the hostess was dismissive and unaccommodating. For a restaurant we once recommended, this was such a letdown. Mendocino is full of places that combine great food with genuine hospitality -- sadly, this is not one of them apparently.
We hear about it is good but I fund we arrive at.4.30pm they told us we shoud pay deposits for$25 per person. So I paid depositsand we hade seats in 7.30pm.and We wait for more than one hour and the food was served at 8:30pm.Every one was hungry. Is you paid deposits you should notice the waitress and let them redeem. Not recomend to eat here. The food not so good and serving size is small. Wait for a long time.If you have kids together I will recommend you to buy mountain mike pizza.
The pasta's were relatively good, far from the best but the experience was quite nice outdoors, there were heaters and lights and such, but everything else was quite horrible. The water tasted like soap, we had to ask for water refills, my partner and I both felt sick after dinner, our waitress FORGOT about our table and the entire restaurant had cleared as we waited for our bill, and we found her drinking and eating with other staff inside as she laughed about forgetting our bill and didn't even apologize. The restaurant had not even been closed for 10 minutes, and we waited well over 20 minutes for from the time we finished eating, the bussers had put away the chairs turned off all of the heaters put everything away, and started to turn the lights off as we asked if we could pay our bill. The appetizers felt as if they were frozen and defrosted, our food was served practically cold, and for $120+ tab, this was unacceptable. WE both understand, as former food and alcohol service workers, bad nights but this was unlike any other, it was not overly busy by any means, had she not been drinking and eating while we were waiting and asking for her, and been WORKING even just 15 minutes before they closed we wouldn't have been upset but understanding of the situation.
If I could give this place less than a 1 star rating, I would. I never write reviews but how I was treated yesterday deserves an action. My gf and I went there last night. It was raining earlier in the evening. Upon arrival, the host didn’t even greet me. She told us that they don’t accept walk-ins until 8 pm and had no bar seating available but we could order take out. We decided to order take out and she said it’d be around 20 min until the food is ready. It was very cold outside. We weren’t offered to wait inside or for a place to sit outside. Nor were we offered any water to drink. Nobody turned on the heater outside until 15 minutes later. We asked the host if we could go see their garden and she said no. The host was pretty rude towards the customer and didn’t offer basic decency. The food tasted pretty average and clams had sand in them. The prices are on the higher end side but is not worth the price tag.
