The staff is wonderful, they are so patient and kind :)
I mean, it's there on the sign - World's Greatest Cheeseburger. In all seriousness though, it is a pretty good burger but I go there for the ice cream. The chocolate banana milkshakes were pretty good too.
Stopped for the burgers. Top spot for burgers and more. Don’t forget the Abbott’s custard!
Every time I visit family in the Rochester area it is one of the first places I eat. I am never disappointed!
The burger with the works was amazing. I wish the fries had a little more crisp to them. All in all a decent place to eat. I would eat here again. Not many places in New York I would say that at.
The krinkle fries were perfect! The cheeseburger lived up to their moniker. Did not disappoint. The restaurant grade Heinz ketchup self dispensed into little To Go cups is EZ-PZ. And yes, just like Hellman's (and I've gotten into arguments over this) the restaurant grade is a better quality.
Perfect spot for the world's greatest cheeseburger after an afternoon shopping at The Emporium. The music was alittle loud but there was only one other group in there and another small family came in as we were leaving so that could be why. Other than that the staff was friendly and the quality is what you expect from The World's Greatest Cheeseburger franchise, Great!
Always stop here if I am driving through. Great fries, classic Rochester hamburgers, and the chocolate almond frozen custard is a Rochester classic. A taste of my childhood!
Had the haddock dinner and it was very good! Love the atmosphere and the service is great. Really enjoyed this place as a first time customer! Will definitely go back and try the worlds greatest cheeseburger! 😀
Best. Burgers. Ever. AND beer-battered onion rings...and top it off with a chocolate almond (iced) custard, with or without hot fudge and real whipped cream. Come hungry, great prices won't break the bank. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.
Burgers came out fast bacon was crisp. Fires were not oily at all. The ambiance in the bar area was very nice. The bartender was responsive and personable. Not bad at all, good experience❗
Always great food and quick service.
We grabbed a fish fry and a fish sandwich for Friday dinner. We washed them down with a couple of beers. It's a dive bar with great food, great service AND is friendly to people that are not regulars.
I want to praise your Saturday night crew 8/3/24. They were awesome with me. I couldn't figure out how to use my app since I just give my phone number when I come in. All the boys came over to help when I went back up to the counter to ask about my points. To my surprise I have a few things coming that I didn't know I had. Well, I had to get my chocolate almond custard after we ate. Thank you for the amazing kids you have on your staff.
Great visit! Im from FL so glad I got to have a meal there.
The only Bill Gray’s outside of Monroe County, and it’s a good one.
All I want to say is that the ice cream that you guys serve, specifically the the chocolate almond flavor, is one of the best damn ice creams I have ever had! Taste like your eating a Hershey's bar with almonds in ice cream form.
Food was great. On time and exactly what you expect. My only issue was the lady in front was busy and my to go came up the 2 guys in back and 1 in ice cream (or whatever is all the way right when at counter) just watched me stand there. 3 to 5 min whike she delivered food to another table. I will definitely be back, and i recommend it. Hopefully, they cross train a lil more.
Bill Gray's food is always great 👍 I really enjoy the experience at the Tap Room location though as you can grab some food and then head over to the bar. The Tap Room may not be for everyone, but if you like a quieter atmosphere, very laid back but still with a nice selection of beers on tap and great service I would definitely recommend it, always enjoy myself there. Update* Went this afternoon, great time! Bar was more full, played dice with fellow customers and had a great time! And as always received wonderful service, definitely recommend for a fun afternoon!
Our burgers were very good; thin, but 2 with very good flavor. French fries and home fries (home fries appeared to be cubed potatoes deep-fried, no other seasonings) were ok. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Best burgers around will always stop on The way through to Rochester
Treated ourselves last night! Best burger ever!!! 🍔 🍟 The milkshakes were fantastic as well!!!
Spent some time here and we really enjoyed it the food was good but the customer service was excellent.
Best of the best! GREAT staff. GREAT food. There is nowhere better than this. Even though you forgot a cheeseburger!! 🤣🤣 I came home with 3 with TWO buy one/ get one (and fries). I'm just bustin chops lol. Seriously though, For YEARS you have made every trip home re-memorable. Thank you and thank you to the staff. You are top notch and care about your customers as your own family. I will recommend Bill Grays to EVERYONE I know. But the people I really like, I will recommend this establishment. Top notch
It's hard to find a good mushroom burger, which is my favorite! Their cheese burgers are really good too! I also love the sweet potato fries!
A go to for a great meal. You can't go wrong with Bill Gray's. A local chain that serves great food and is fairly priced. I ordered the Cheeseburger and Red Hot Great Plate. Mine was with Crispy Tater Tots, Macaroni Salad, ketchup, mustard, sweet pickle relish, Chopped Onions, and their signature Meat Hot Sauce. Wonder combination of flavors and textures. The Great Plate is a complete meal and is their take on a local tradition (the Famous Garbage Plate). Tater tots were extra crispy and complemented the spicy meat sauce, the creamy Macaroni Salad, and the protein selections. Their food is consistent and very good. I am a repeat customer at Bill Gray's and I've always had a good meal and experience at every location I've been to. Bill Grey's is a great local chain that prides itself on quality and excellent customer service. 2 thumbs up from this patron.
We went into Bill Gray’s as it was in close proximity to our workplace. I ordered a cheeseburger, chili cheese fries, and mozzarella sticks. The chili is a full chili (meat, beans, onions, etc) and not the typical meaty chili (no beans) I’m used to. It was a delightful breath of fresh air so to speak. The cheeseburger was really good as well as it was juicy but not too juicy. The mozzarella sticks, however, were not as good as I was hoping. The flavor is very battery and they don’t come out super hot and gooey. The sauce for dipping is a sweet marinara sauce instead of savory so I wouldn’t order those again but they were still tasty :) The staff was super nice and fast. I’d definitely come here again :)
Placed order through the app and food was ready right on time. I also got a free cheeseburger for my birthday because I signed up for an account.
Bar area is a bit oddly set up (people playing pool almost hitting people at table next to it) but people nice and friendly. There was entertainment which was nice. Food for the price is good, and i like that abotts ice cream available in the food part
Good fish fry. The best onion rings.
I have not been here in years, or at least since its ownership changed. We were greeted by a friendly cashier who took our order when we were ready. We ordered 2 burgers, order of fries, and fried mushrooms and one icee drink. With our coupon it came to around $20. Our food was ordered to go and after a 5 or so minute wait we got our food. If you want pickles you have to ask for them (no free for all!) Everything was packaged well as to not make too much of a mess in the car. The burgers were delicious. The fried mushrooms were great however it seemed like a rather small helping for $5. And I would recommend against the icee. Its not a name brand Icee and was not that great. Overall, pretty solid meal. Would definitely go back.
It's a decent place to grab a bite to eat with the family. I like the frozen custard. Don't bother with any other frozen desserts because they are awful.
The food is always a banger, but I go in and occasionally wait almost 20 minutes for a single burger sometimes, but food makes it worth it.
Brilliant service! Friendly staff and food is delicious!
Good burger joint well known for its food. A little pricey but generally worth it.
Nice homey feeling. Good people food is great. I suggest the garbage plate.
Fun little towney bar located on Route 104! It's the bar part of the Bill Grey's that shares the building. You can order food, drink liquor and play Quick draw, all while you watch sports or daytime TV. No judging It's definitely a "dive bar" feel, but the food is delicious and they run a tight ship. Professional bartenders, strong drinks and cold beer. Some of the guests may look a little rough around the edges, but they are typically harmless. Definitely a must go if you want a 315 vibe, New York State Lotto options and tasty bar fare. They say it's the World's Greatest Cheeseburger, it's definitely worth a trip to find out.
The original Bill Gray's, smaller than the rest with a limited beer list, but it's the original and you can tell it's a friendly neighborhood hangout, loved by all. It's the standard Bill Gray's food and that's nothing to frown upon with the world's greatest cheeseburger, garbage plates, wings, and custard frozen treats on the other side of the bar doors.
I've been here a few times on business trip. I tried a garbage plate this time around. It was good. It didn't have a lot of flavor so I had to add a little S&P. It was better than another local shop ive tried but could use some spice/flavor work. I followed up the plate with a cookie ice cream sandwich and that was delicious.
It was maybe an off day with not much going on but being my first time at Bill Gray's I don't know what else to compare it to. The food was just as good as described. I ordered a garbage plate with everything. It was quite the heavy serving and I did my best to clean my plate. I really enjoyed the meat sauce on it all. I will absolutely be stopping back for more.
I believe this is the original bill grays. Amazing hot sauce and really good garbage plates. Burgers are thin but juicy and really good. They always have ice cream right there to pair with your dinner. Bill grays is very consistent in service and good quality. Don’t go in with out coupons or your getting ripped off.
Greatest cheeseburger in the world? Not so sure about that. The cheeseburger is fine. It's like the kind of cheeseburger you would get from a concession stand at a high school football game. Only difference is that Bill Gray's burgers cost 3 times as much. Seriously, I thought Five Guy's was pushing the limits for what you could charge for a burger, but Bill Gray's takes the cake for most expensive mediocre burger.
Nonchalant staff, a little slow on the grill, and the hotsauce needs a little more heat and a little more meat
The food is great when they can get my order correct. I spend at least 80.00 there. I've ordered over the phone, dined in and I can only remember one time our order was ever correct. So now I go else where.
Food wasn't great but not horrible; service, we were kind of ignored for the first 10 min until the trainee noticed he had customers; price was a bit high for as little food as we got. 2 burgers and 1 shake was almost $30.
Counter guy was great fish was good sides were just okay
The food was very good...! The employee taking our order clearly did not want to be there, which was unfortunate. We will definitely be going back to visit...! However, if we receive a repeat performance from whomever takes our order, it will, unfortunately, be our last visit to this location... ***update*** We returned for a follow-up visit (it’s been about a year) and received a cheery greeting from the employee. The employee was patient as we made our order through masks and a plastic partition. Our party of six thoroughly enjoyed their food as it was better than the previous visit. We plan on returning again in the future...!
Great fish fry reasonable price, but the booths were removed and replaced with tables. It's like a very loud cafeteria, absolutely unbearable on a Friday night it's so loud and uncomfortable sitting so close to others with voices echoing. I won't come to this one anymore. We will drive to Webster if that one hasn't changed
A local burger place that lots of folks love. I find their burgers ok. Nothing special and their fries are good but they never give you enough. My wife LOVES their veggie burgers so if you're into that definitely get one of those.
I have mixed feelings about this. I grew up loving Bill Gray's and Tom Wahls, but am a bit less enamored with them of late. The food is always great.. but it is getting to be too expensive. I understand that quality ingredients aren't cheap.. but $35 for 2 fish frys? That's with the coupon.. they may have 'the world's greatest cheeseburger' but it will cost you. If you are going to be fast food.. be fast food.. and knock 15-20% off your prices.. or become a diner.. and have table service.
Usually great food. Stopped to get some frozen custard. Found a hair in mine. Manager admitted it was gross and offered a new one or refund. I took the refund after loosing my appetite. Three stars because the error was handled properly. Noticed they do not wear hairnets only hats.
Bill grays never really makes me feel like I'm getting a top-notch product... but more of a middle ground one. The atmospheres are always similar and dated.... it's like stepping back to the late 90s, in a bad way. The fries are always undercooked or overcooked (why can't they figure this out?) . The burgers are a 5 out of 10. Then there's the ice cream.... why is it $8 for a milkshake? Or 2 scoops of ice cream? Abbots isn't even full of toppings? That will cost you even more money.. I just don't get it? I can't wait for shale shack to start opening up around Rochester, maybe then Bill grays will step their game up?
Drove by this place, with its HUGE sign outside touting "World's Greatest Cheeseburger" so many times, I finally decided to actually stop & check it out, to see 1st hand. Well, in summary: NOT EVEN CLOSE! It didn't make me gag or throw up or anything... but "World's Greatest Cheeseburger" - ?? Yeah... NO. Now, when you look on their menu board, to place your order - that, is what it is actually called, and what you (literally) order, so I suppose to the extent of that much - "they carry it" as an order item - we can't technically call it false advertising I suppose. LOL On the other hand, they have a dessert case here, that knocks your socks off!! I'll stop again... but certainly not for a Cheeseburger, but to hit up that dessert case for sure!
It's literally been years since my last visit to this chain restaurant. The building was previously operated by Tom Gray, Bill's son, and in my opinion provided much better quality food for less money. My fish fry was greasy and overcooked, some of it inedible. Certainly not as large and juicy as one would expect for a $13.99 fish dinner which was pretty much self serve ie a glorified Burger King. Speaking of Burger King, the fish sandwich served there is better than this fish fry, less expensive by far, and not dried out. On the positive side, the fries were good. The baked beans were of the Bush Baked Bean family it seemed, not too bad. So all in all, it was not a totally bad meal, but for half the price, you are better off at the King.
It's what you expect. Got a fish fry. It was not bad, but also nothing to write home about. The batter didn't stick to it and it fell apart when trying to eat it. But overall the food wasn't bad
Food was very good. Price was very high! And i barely got any frwnch fries. For the prics they charge I would think you would get wnoygh food to fill you up and not a childs size portion of french fries. Again as far as taste it was GREAT!!! SERVICE WAS GREAT. BURGER SIZE WAS GOOD.PORTION SIZE OF FRIES WAS VERY VERY VERY SMALL!!!! DID I MENTION THE FRIES WERE SMALL! LOL
I didn’t know what the name of this place was, and had to look it up on the map. It looks like from the front it’s called world’s greatest cheeseburgers, and we stopped in because of that name. From the look on the outside, I expected a diner interior and it didn’t look anything like that. I went with two friends and we all decided to get cheeseburgers, one with American ch, one with Swiss ch, and one with motz. The burgers were decent, but not the best I’ve had and frankly “The world’s greatest” had a lot to live up to. Clean place, fast service, decent burger. It was a wee bit greasy, but the bun was soft and chewy. I gave it 3 stars because of the claim, and the fact 3 cheeseburgers were $30, and that’s a bit too much.
The burgers are very good but they are super heavy and the oily greasy foods will upset your tummy. Good service decor was very fast food. Yummy fountain drink choices. Won't be back because it made me sick couldn't even finish my food. Diabetes burgers.
I got a Swiss and mushroom burger with fries and my friend got the garbage plate burger. The bugers were greasy and tasteless, and the fries were greasy and didn't have any seasoning at all. The place looks nice but definitely were not the world's greatest bugers
There very slow. The person making the burger was running around like crazy while the cashier's were just standing there watching not helping to get the orders out waited 20 mins for a burger and fries
My husband's burger was disgusting. It was so mangled when they threw it in the bag (upside down) that he couldn't even pick it up. They gave us no napkins and when my husband went back in to get some they were rude and said "there should be some in the bag", like we wouldn't have known to check 🙄. My food was okay.
The French fries were overcooked, the fish was surprisingly good. I was expecting a restaurant from how it was described to me, but it was a take-out joint with the option of eating at a table. Points lost for the amount of plastic waste used and the way the food was handled.
Definitely not the world's greatest burger
We stopped here on our way back home, my parents often drive passed on their route home, today we decided to stop here instead of going to one of our usual places. They appeared to be having issues upfront so we waited to be helped, when we were assisted and our order taken, we all asked for various burgers in a meal and specified what we had wanted for fries. After we paid, we were given only one cup. We asked for the others at which case the cashier seemed truly befuddled and asked "you wanted meals?" We had already paid, so he began to ring us up and told us a price. We paid again, but it seemed really odd that we essentially paid over $43.93 for three meals. I did the math afterwards. We were rang up separately for the items that should have been in a meal as we requested this included one of the fries and two drinks. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't so spectacular that it overcame the customer service issues such as friendliness and customer care. It was almost like we were an inconvenience that they wanted to move along quickly, so in respect of their wishes we ate fast, we left, and we wont be back.
I have been to many of the restaurants in the chain and usually get a good meal with no problem. This store's service seems to get worse with every visit. Several times they have gotten the order wrong or incomplete. They seem to not have knowledge of operating a cash register or selecting the right items. On my last and final visit I noticed everyone who had ordered after me already had their orders. I inquired about my order of a burger and fries and they said they were waiting on the wheat roll. I said to go ahead and substitute a white roll and they refused. After waiting a little longer due to their reassurances it was coming, I asked for a refund twice and was ignored. I finally walked out without my order. There are better restaurants in area.
Not sure why the location says Ontario, I was commenting on the Latta Road in Greece where they changed the Cole Slaw . Sorry Ontario...... The ONLY food I like there is the fish fry but what ever change they made to the Cole slaw, they ruined it!!! My one question to them has ALWAYS been.... How can they claim to have the "Worlds greatest Cheeseburger" when people in most other states have never heard of Bill Grays. False advertising???
Prices are fairly high. Management is on the wrong track. a lot of drama and problems. In the bar area especially. Which is Too bad. I used to enjoy going there. Management doesn't consider the customers.
Stopped in for the plate special. Home fries were burnt to a crisp. I will never understand why restaurants think it's ok to double and triple dunk fries to warm them up. They come out oily, burnt and disgusting! My advise would be to throw them away when they sit for awhile and make fresh ones, not worth losing business to save a few potatoes 🤷
Messed up our order, was barely anyone there and we had to wait over 30 minutes. Kids grilled cheese was awful, double cheeseburger was drowning in hot sauce and the roll was half the size of a normal. Super disappointed. Good luck!
Purchased 2 fish fries last Friday brought it home fish was good coleslaw tasted spoiled had to toss it out called the restaurant to tell them and no answer husband has been ill for 2 days after tasting it
Little disappointed tonight to have gotten a fish fry dinner to go and open it up to find no roll or tarter. I really hope the "worlds greatest cheeseburger" doesn't fade like my childhood memories of Charlie's being the place to go...
cole cacciotti did not flip my burger correctly and when i went to use the restroom he did not clean the toilets properly, please consider a new staff behind the register.
Ordered 2 burgers for my son and I.... Came out RAW ... Even the bun was bloody, wet, red... the Order of pizza logs were frozen and not edible...when I returned the logs.. after I showed the raw burgers, instead of giving me a full order of Pizza logs I received two. instead of the four that I ordered. Not one single apology nor refund offered!! Employees were cold and unresponsive to there lack of quality... Never again!
Always enjoyed going to Bill Gray's to get a fish sandwich. I purchased a fish sandwich last week which was broken apart and overcooked. Just went there 3 hours ago and purchased a fish sandwich which was smaller than the bun and overcooked. I returned it back to the counter and asked them why would they give that to anyone and requested a refund. I have enjoyed meals at this Bill Gray's in the past but as of lately the focus of quality has been abandoned. Make me a believer again by bringing back the quality of your product being sold to the consumer.
Only reason for 1 star is I can't give 0. Went for icecream. Extremely sloppy overfilled bowls. Couldn't carry to the table without leaving a trail of melted icecream. The milkshake tasted like a glass of milk. Strawberry shortcake was disgusting. It had frozen rock hard strawberries and shortcake. The whole order went into the garbage. It was very expensive and a waste of time. Never going back.
By far the worst experience I have ever received from a Bill Grays ... The staff is rude and not welcoming... My cheeseburgers were cold and not dressed right and they refused to do anything about it . When I finally had enough and called their office I was give a gift card with apparently zero dollars on it ... This place is a HUGE disappoint I will be taking my business down the road to Charlie's. I would advise you do the same !
Me and a coworker stopped for lunch. We both got simple burgers. Worst food we've ever ate. Both felt sick afterwards. Burger tasted horrible. And it's way over priced for what they offer. Almost $13 for a disgusting burger and fries. Will not be returning back to bill grays. And everyone that was working was either just talking or playing on phones. Do not recommend !!!
Ordered 2 Fish Dinners and 2 drinks for a total of $32.00 and told the cashier make the fish extra crispy and fries too. We had been to this location for the exact same thing two weeks in a row. We got our drinks and silverware used the restroom as we always do. I came out of the bathroom and by boyfriend was already at the counter getting the food. We usually wait 15minutes or more. We started to eat the food fish wet and soggy and fries were warm and limp tasting. I said to my boyfriend it tastes like the fish could have been cooked more he said it was laying around and under the warmer. We take the drive from Irondequoit because we always enjoyed the hot fresh food. NOT THIS TIME. WASTE OF MONEY. HE ONLY ATE 1/2 of his food. It was approximately 1:15pm no one was in line waiting and maybe 2 tables of other people.
Let's start with inexperienced cashier, doing his best without much guidance, then order was wrong. Got refund for the item easily. Even the bathroom is in poor order and has an odor. I generally love dining at Bill Gray's. This location puts a bad name to a great brand.
For years, this place was great. Tonight, Sunday evening Mother's Day, was a mess. The restaurant was not at capacity, and the tap room side was closed, no one eating outside. Customers were warning other customers where not to sit because floors under booths were wet and tables sticky. Ordered two burgers and twenty minutes later (per receipt timestamp) still no food. Went up to ask, got "we're just making it now." Burgers were done but my wife's was cold and my cheese wasn't melted. Looked up their latest NYS Dept of Health inspection. In 2019, two critical citations for not keeping cold food cold enough, or hot food hot enough. There're WAY better places to eat.
It was freezing cold in the restaurant and just a couple of people in there and we waited a long time and then the food was almost burnt the chicken was pretty much uneatable and with almost no people in there and 5 employees the wait time was way too long and the quality of the food was very poor and that was my first time ever there don't know if I can go back
I ordered plates for my family, I told them what I wanted it was a little confusing since we all wanted something different. I got home which was 20 minutes away only to find out that only one had hot sauce. I called to complain, (I was livid) they told me they would put me on the list. I said that was my dinner. So I wanted it remade. Big mistake on my part. I literally have been sicker than a dog since then. Vomiting, diarrhea and horrible cramps. Even my boyfriend said they tasted off, and he gets then every Tuesday. If I'm not better by tomorrow, I will be calling the health department.
Had a cheeseburger to go and the bottom bun was completely soggy. Couldn't even eat. Never go back again.
Staff was friendly but the food was Absolutely Horrible!! The fries were so over cooked you couldn't eat them. My father's fish was so over cooked he had to pull the coating off just to eat it. My " worlds greatest cheese burger" had absolutely no flavor. Won't be eating here again anytime soon.
Ordered a plate online for grub hub to pick up… I specifically selected the toppings I wanted for the plate which for most people is the point (meat hot sauce) and I got it plain….. I called and nicely stated I asked for toppings and it’s plain and she said well if the toppings aren’t listed on the receipt (which for some reason they aren’t) there isn’t anything we can do unless you want to come get the toppings ………… no I ordered from grub hub for a reason ….. will not be ordering here again seeing as they can’t even accommodate their mistakes wether it’s a website issue or store issue
Was just there and Spent $21 on two kitty ice creams and a peanut butter milkshake The server was very confused making the ice creams and totally forgot about the milkshake. Then when I reminded her about the milkshake, it was just that milk and peanut butter mixed up in a blender no ice cream whatsoever Needless to say it was disgusting and I ended up throwing it out. What a waste.
Too busy focusing on online orders had to wait over 35 mins for a burger and fries… absolutely ridiculous… should have two stations… one dedicated to in restaurant and one for delivery… not first in first out with online orders… won’t be back to this location
Cashier was not friendly, no greeting, no smile. Our fish & tater tots were both overcooked. My husband’s plate had so much grease on it you could have literally poured it off the plate. We take my elderly parents to Bill Gray’s every Friday in Webster NY. Due to a storm happening today we decided to try the Bill Gray’s in Ontario NY where we live. It was quiet, only a few customers. Tables were dirty and shouldn’t have been any reason our fish should have been over-cooked, as I said “not busy”. We will not be visiting this Bill Gray’s again. You don’t dare take anything back because you don’t know what they will do to your food. So disappointed & for $35.50 it was a total waste of our money. All that grease!
Do yourself a favor and stick to trash plates and burgers from here. Got wings for the first time from them today and they were disgusting. Waste of $20
Upon visiting this establishment, I was thoroughly disappointed with the dining experience, especially given the price. The garbage plate I ordered had a steak patty that was alarmingly small, almost hidden under the meat sauce. In stark contrast, I highly recommend Perrington Hots in Fairport for anyone looking for a satisfying and value-driven meal. This delightful mom-and-pop restaurant offers a garbage plate that is both generous in portion and rich in flavor, making it a far superior choice.
