This is the best place to go in Palestine for a wonderful lunch or to just stop in for dessert. It is a Christian family oriented place, where everyone is welcome. I have nothing but good things to say about it. Keep up the good work!
Food is always fresh. Love the atmosphere.
I love this place! It has a great vibe, and the food is like a home-cooked meal. It hits the spot!! Locals always recommended it to me and I finally went this year. Can't stop going!
The Old Magnolia Mercantile isn't fancy. The tables and chairs don't match but the food is great and this is where you want to go to visit with the locals. They know what a great place it is to eat and catch up on all the local news. Yes, it's an old building but it's right downtown and easy to get to. The food isn't fancy but it's excellent and plentiful. Just good cooking!
I ordered the pulled pork loaded potato and i could hardly finish it. Atmosphere was calm and great to go with a group because you can talk and not have trouble hearing each other
My favorite place to eat when I am in the area. REAL food; homemade soups and salads are my favorite. Try the honey mustard balsamic vinaigrette on their salad with crisp apples and pecans and then the chili, they are both great! A good kick back atmosphere, I like to study there in between classes at the community college.
Wonderful experience. Took our order, we accidentally gave an extra 20.00 when we paid, cashier hailed us down to correct our mistake. Dined in. Come Here to eat and shop antiques!
Good food, service, and atmosphere!
I was visiting from out of town and stopped by the Old Magnolia Drive Thru today for lunch. The Tomato Basil Soup is amazing. The best I've ever had. Also had the Chicken Salad on the avocado that has a wonderful flavor. Most of all the portions are enough for 2 people. Stop by and try their food. You won't be disappointed.
Love the friendly staff always enjoy the environment and food! Food is so good and highly recommend to all!
Their food is amazing! It is always fresh and the atmosphere is very warm and pleasant! Not to mention the booths on the other side where you can walk around and shop small businesses! Thats an awesome attribute of Old Magnolia! They support small businesses!
Really great food - fresh, really tasty and reasonably priced. I’ve never ordered anything I wasn’t happy with. They also have coffee and ice cream. Staff is really friendly. The conjoined antique store is really awesome too! I always have a look when I’m there and have made several purchases.
Bacon Melt is my favorite and I ate the potato soup throughout my last trimester even in the summer heat it was so good. An enjoyable place to spend lunch time and do some shopping while waiting for food as well.
I love their food and the fact that I can shop antiques in the same place. Always fast and friendly service. Although today, my husband couldn't get anyone's attention to get him a to-go box. He helped himself. It's wasn't busy.
🌿 Magnolia Cafe – Palestine, TX 🌿 Absolutely worth the stop! 😍 Yummy sandwiches that hit the spot — we tried the Meat Lover and the Old Mag Club, and both were chef’s kiss. Looks like a sweet little family-run spot, and you can taste the love in every bite. 💛 Oh, and the brownies? To. Die. For. 😮💨🍫 If you’re passing through, trust me — pull over and treat yourself. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What a delightful lunch stop! City construction made it a little difficult to get to, but it is definitely worth navigating to get here! First off, it’s in a vendor mall, so you can shop while you wait. Next, come hungry because the portions are huge and the food is delicious. Plus, we came on Free Brownie Friday; what could get better than that?!
Strolling through downtown Palestine, we were trying to find a place for lunch. Old Magnolia offered sandwich, soups, salads and wraps. We enjoyed our wraps and salad in the interesting setup of the diner. People were friendly and nice, and prices very reasonable.
This is probably the best club sandwich I’ve ever had. We had the broccoli and cheese spud as well and it was good! Service was amazing, The young man at the counter is sure going somewhere in life. It’s rarely to see someone that young that professional.
Best freakin' sandwiches in town. Plus the tea is pretty good.
This is a wonderful place to host a small event. They have a banquet room and they’re the best host I have ever experienced. We hosted a baby shower in there They made everything so much easier. They are flexible and patient they go above and beyond the owner is the sweetest, so is the manager she made everything go so smoothly a huge thank you to them. Their coffee was delicious and so was their food.
Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram at SNDTravels. Not much to see or do downtown Palestine but this is a nice stop for lunch. Sandwiches, wraps, salads and baked potatoes. Diane and I had chicken salad that included apples and pecans. Very good mixture so that it wasn't too sweet or to juicy. Diane had croissant and I had a half sandwich on wheat and a half avocado stuffed with chicken salad. Good combination with the avocado. Dad had a roasted turkey sandwich and was very pleased with the turkey. Mom had a BBQ stuffed 1/2 baked potato. I don't know how you could get a whole one on the plate. Mom loved it and really enjoyed the BBQ flavor. They also had some seasoned crackers that were done in store and were exceptional. Overall it's a really good sandwich shop combined with a antique store. Friendly service. Overall two thumbs up. Recommended!👍👍
Love this antique store. Great food too. Love the Christian atmosphere and small town vibe. Everyone working there is really sweet!! Thank you for make this experience great for us city slickers from San Antonio.
Quaint, at home feeling. Love all the shops. Especially 11VK. Beautiful handcrafted jewelry and eclectic handmade home furnishings. Check out the angel afghans. Featuring Valentines theme gifts for that someone special. Her special this month is buy a necklace and get earrings of equal or less cost for free. Get there soon before all the good stuff is gone.
Absolutely amazing food. The decor and atmosphere is amazing. Tara will take care of you from the minute you walk in.
You must try the Magnolia Crackers. They are the bombdiggity. Everything else I try is always enjoyable... but those crackers are GREAT

If you haven't eaten here you're missing out! Everything on the menu is great. We enjoyed lunch with a slice of homemade pie that would give your granny a run for her money. When we were done, my wife and I enjoyed shopping locally crafted items in the consignment shop. Hands down this is one of Palestine's best places to visit.
We love coming here with our daughter. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is great for it being a "sandwich shop". They have spuds, wraps and soups as well that have been decent every time. Its worth a stop and We love walking around the antique shop after we finish our food!
The French dip was amazing! I added onions and jalapeños. Gave it quite the kick, just what I was looking for. The beef was flavorful and the portion size was generous. Staff was extremely friendly and kind. Cure layout in the downtown area. Wish they had lemons for my tea, or lemonade (I didn’t ask for lemonade, they may possess some).

Cute. Quaint. I had the chicken salad sandwich and it tasted just like it should. Love the seasoned saltine crackers! But agree with previous review. Very understaffed and slow. Plan to go back again and again. Editing to say that I went back again with my children. Had a salad with roasted pecans, goat cheese and green apples. It was fabulous. The children liked their meals as well. The service was a little faster this time. We will definitely become regulars.
Great little family run cafe that had a great selection of sandwiches, soups and salads. When walking into Old Magnolia you will feel like you are going back in time when everyone knew your name and you just had to order "the regular." I had the chili and it was very good! The only reason I am giving them 4 stars is for the cleanliness of the store, it left some to be desired.
Tasty food. Choice of GF bread was small flat bread. Your own chicken salad (potato salad etc) are always the best, right? So be realistic about what tastes good to you. Really liked the bollio bread for my sandwich. Pickle on the side was the most sour I’ve ever had. Glad downtown has this place as an option.

I was excited to come here by of all the hype I've heard about this one. I ordered a MPS salad, the chicken salad portion had a good flavor but had very little chicken, the pimento cheese was tasty but very warm, and the salad portion was just bitter ( I couldn't identify if it was the greens, cheese, pecans or dressing). I was expecting better ttbh.
I wasn't impressed with the food either time I've been here. It's cozy but also understaffed. I wanted some tea but nobody has time to make some. This isn't a bad place but certainly has room for improvement. It cost me and my girlfriend about 20$ for two wraps.
Ordered Hearty chicken salad. Menu says choice of dressing. I ordered balsamic vinegar. Got my salad and was not told was out of spinach for the salad nor was i told that balsamic vinegar is extra $1. charge. So wound up with just a lettuce salad with alot of pepper on the chicken They did refund my $1 after I ask for some kind of compensation for the no spinach and the fact menu does not say EXCLUDES BALSAMIC VINEGAR DRESSING.
Quaint little deli diner that is proud of there items and seems to higher priced than comparable locations. Self serve, order at counter, get your own food when ready, hot sandwhiches not toasted well.
If you are passing through Palestine on your way to Jefferson, the Magnolia Cafe is worth a stop, especially if you are looking for local color. When on a road trip, atmosphere trumps food. Half size sandwiches are a great way to save your calories for a special dinner. After lunch, take drive along Sycamore Street to view the majestic old houses. Or, stroll into the adjacent antique shop and pick up a vintage bird cage.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich meal that included a side (choice of bag of chips, potato salad or coleslaw). My bill was $12.60 which included a charge for water that you self-serve from, sitting in a plastic container on the counter. When it was ready, I found that the sandwich was made with bread that you get out of a standard grocery store loaf of bread. The chicken salad portion was a bit thin and not particularly/wow! tasteful. The potato salad did not appear 'homemade', but what I enjoyed most. All in all, a disappointing meal for the price. But I love the atmosphere of the place and I was with friends, so it still was a delightful visit. Cashier Alicia was nice and patient as I was unfamiliar with menu.
In the last 6 months, Old Mag has gone down hill so fast! The food is now lacking with flavor and freshness. We placed a phone order on Friday for an event at our office. It was for 6 lunches. The flavor was sub par along with the orders not being complete. To top it off, the young man that ignored us for over 10 minutes, was completely and intentionally rude. Never did we experience an "oh, let me try to find that for you, or I'm so sorry that we mixed that up. Not even a Thanks for coming, enjoy your lunch. This has been the attitude the last three time we have been there, and it also was our last.
Very disappointed. There isn’t a full slice of cheese or ham on this sandwich... The brownie was also the smallest brownie I’ve ever received from a restaurant... I also paid for potato salad but never received it… My mom ended up having to ask if she could get her food to go because it took so long to get our food. Sad, because we only went there to meet her on her lunch break. We won’t be back.

Phoned in a simple take out order. Got there 20 minutes later and paid. Twenty minutes later still no soup and sandwich. Kids behind the counter won't even turn around to make eye contact. I finally get one young lady's attention and ask about my order. She takes my receipt and tells me she has no record of my order. I ask her how that is possible since out was in the system for me to pay. She does not know. Ten more minutes later she discovers my order right there and bagged on the counter. Where it had now been for 30 minutes. She hands me my cold food and says sorry.
We decided to support mom and pop shops. So we decided to try this little place out. We got there around 1pm ordered sandwiches and sweet tea. We got 1 small glass of sweet tea then the tea ran out. Told the staff they said when it's out it's out we are not making anymore. Then we waited for 45 mins for 2 sandwiches.... went up to get a coke and coke machine isn't working. Staff acted like they didn't care or didn't want to work. I use to have fairly large business lunches here in the past. After this last experience I don't think I'll be back and wouldn't recommend this place. Stuff happens and you can understand that but redness is unacceptable. Shame to because it's a cute quiet little place but like everything these Days no one takes pride in their work anymore!
We ordered our sandwiches and got our drinks. I told the girl working they were about out of tea and she said what they make that morning is all they have for the rest of the day. After 30 min we still didn’t have our sandwiches and there was 2 other tables in the restaurant. I went to get a soda since there was no tea and the carbonation wasn’t working so no drinks for our food so we ended up canceling it. My mom got some kind of coffee the day of the Christmas parade and it was mainly foam not a lot of coffee. I do not recommend eating here at all.
10 Years ago I had their chicken salad w/ stuffed in half avocados w/ the balsamic crackers, so decided to stop by and order the same thing. I was sorely disappointed with the flavor of the salad as it was nothing like what it was years ago and no crackers. The chicken was dry and tasted like it came out of a can. There were no grapes or pecans in it like when I had it years ago. The skin was on the avocado and they were not ripe, hard and disgusting w/ black. Not a well made salad for the price! The chairs were falling apart and it looked run down. I had to give one star but I don't think the food deserves any stars at all! No prices posted and the staff looked like they just rolled out of bed. Was not impressed.
We were not able to enter. The doorways, both sides, are too narrow for a motorized wheelchair. Although the doors allowed for widening, the hardware was jammed. What a shame. It looked cute inside, but we'll never know how the food and service is. Historical buildings, if improved at all, even in the slightest, need to be accessible per ADA. I'm fairly sure they have added a thing or two to improve this spot. Fix it up and we may return to try it out.
Went with family of 3 at 3:32pm during the Dogwood Festival. There was no greeting of welcome as the woman behind the counter stared at us. My child asked to try a spoon of the chicken salad. To which the woman replied, yes. Then she proceeded to tell us that only "cold plates " were available after 3:30 as she had already closed down her stove/ hot plates/ ovens etc. However when looking on their large menu chalkboard she did not bother to instruct us that meant only COLD SANDWICHES off the entire, huge, display board were available. They could have had that written up on the board to be clear about what was available at what time. So we had one chicken salad sandwich, one ham and cheese sandwich and one only ham sandwich and 2 drinks. Our meal was a HUGE disappointment. Will not go back. Cannot recommend anyone to visit. It was really quite pitiful. My child can make a more appetizing cold sandwich than what we received. We were the only ppl in line at the time. You would think they could take the time to make a good appealing sandwich. Sad....
