The ramens were delicious living up to Ippudo’s reputation. The portion was good but we ordered extra toppings and grilled broccolini. What I enjoyed the most was the Matcha shaved ice. The matcha cream was delicious.

Lost My Ramen Virginity, and It Was Spicy! I walked into Ippudo San Francisco with the confidence of someone who had no idea what they were getting into. I had never tried ramen before—something about the idea of noodles swimming in soup always confused me. Are they drowning? Are they thriving? Who knows. But being in SF, I assumed vegan options would be as abundant as overpriced oat milk lattes, so I took the plunge. The Food: GOMA Q – It’s cucumber. But fancy. Drenched in sesame oil and sprinkled with chili flakes, it was like the cucumber had been invited to a VIP spa day. Nothing life-changing, but I do love sesame oil, so no complaints. SPICY VEGE MISO – This bowl arrived, and I swear it winked at me. A steaming, spicy, glorious mess of noodles, tofu, and miso magic. The Tokyo-style thick wavy noodles? Absolute perfection. The spiced Niku-miso bolognese on top? A bold move, but my taste buds applauded. I had no idea what I was doing, but I slurped it like a seasoned pro (read: made a mess but had fun). The Experience: • Service was faster than my ability to Google “how to eat ramen without embarrassing yourself.” • Portions were generous—I left full but still contemplating ordering another bowl for the road. • My lips were slightly on fire, but in a way that made me feel alive. Overall, Ippudo made me question why I spent years avoiding ramen. Turns out, noodles in soup are not just surviving—they’re thriving. And now, so am I. Update Jan 2026 Back here and it was great as before. You must try MOSHI YUZU - Red Shisho & Apple in mocktails. Went again with the same spicy veggie ramen!

I went to Ippudo with my partner and really enjoyed it. I loved how the ramen was flavorful and beautifully presented. I really loved the toppings as they added great texture and depth to every bite. The atmosphere was inviting and made it a great spot for a date night.

The drinks, service, and noodles were outstanding! A friend recommended this spot so decided to try it out. We were seated at a communal table, water already there, and replenished frequently, and then we placed our orders. In about five minutes, our drinks arrived, and just five minutes later, our food followed—super fast! The noodles were incredible: packed with flavor and served in a generous portion. I also liked that the drinks were festive and fun. Highly recommend visiting if you’re looking for some of the best Noods you’ll ever have! 🍜😋

This is my favorite restaurant for vegan/vegetarian ramen. This location had great atmosphere, I loved how warm and intimate it felt inside - great for a cold winter day. I got the nirvana karaka and the serving of miso bolognese on the side was plenty. The enoki mushroom tempura had great flavor as well as the marinated carrots. I love the tofu chashu so much that my husband and I split an extra serving of it. We’ll definitely be coming here again and again!

Visited December 16 2025 After our lunch at In N Out, we were completely exhausted. We had been up since 1 AM and the cold San Francisco weather really caught up with us. Around 1:30 PM we decided to come back to the hotel and take a nap. I woke up around 5 PM, but the rest of my family kept sleeping. I waited patiently until about 8:45 PM, but at that point I was absolutely starving. I went down to the lobby of the Marriott Marquis to see what food options were nearby. The bellman, Ricky, was incredibly helpful, kind, and welcoming. He took the time to suggest several nearby restaurants and recommended Ipudo Ramen. With that suggestion, I decided to walk over on my own. I am not very used to dining alone, so I was feeling a bit uncomfortable walking in by myself. That feeling disappeared almost immediately. The host greeted me warmly and kindly seated me at a table directly in front of the open kitchen. It turned out to be the perfect seat and ended up being such a comforting experience. You can really tell that the staff works as a team here. Every single server was kind, attentive, and respectful. One brought me a cold glass of water right away, while another came to take my order. I told her I was in the mood for something spicy, and she recommended the Karaka spicy ramen. She explained it clearly and made me feel confident in the choice. The ramen came out very quickly, and I truly enjoyed watching the chefs prepare it right in front of me. Seeing the care and focus that went into each bowl made the experience even more special. The ramen itself was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. I personally eat extremely spicy food, so it was not very spicy for me, but it was still incredibly enjoyable and comforting. Throughout my meal, the servers checked on me several times and refilled my water without me ever having to ask. Even though I was dining alone, I never once felt ignored or awkward. Instead, I felt genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. After finishing my meal, I ordered Shiromaru classic ramen for my two little ones and chicken karaage rice for my husband to go. The server packed everything with great care and made sure it was secure and ready for the walk back to the hotel. When I returned, my family was still asleep. After a lot of convincing, they finally woke up and enjoyed the food together. Every single dish was a hit, and they all loved it. It was the perfect end to a long and tiring day. From the kindness of the staff, to the comforting atmosphere, to the delicious food, this was an outstanding experience from start to finish. I am so grateful for the warmth and care shown to me during my visit. Highly recommend Ippudo Ramen, and I would absolutely return again.

Ippudo San Francisco delivers a grand city-chic vibe from the moment you walk in. The ramen arrives like a spotlight moment—steaming, rich, and full of flavor. The whole place pulses with modern Japanese energy, warm service, and an unforgettable atmosphere.

Wednesday 6:30pm Party of 2, seated right away • Service was quick - servers were very polite and prompt, bordering pushy. • Menu was very clear to understand • Ordered Yuzu Shoyu and Akamaru Modern ramens with Takoyaki as an app • Takoyaki is the best I've ever had, better than ones from the street vendors in Japan. I'm not joking. Extremely crisp outside with a perfectly soft fluffy inner. Ask for their mentaiko sauce on the side - makes it easier to control sauciness (duh) 5/5 • Yuzu shoyu was extremely flavorful and fresh. Perfectly salty, light broth, and very fragrant, especially with the yuzu zest. Noodles are thin and perfectly al dente. Ordered extra noodles bc the broth was so good and fresh 4.5/5 • Akamaru Modern is a stick-to-your-bones type, great for chilly weather. Very thick and deep-flavored broth. Not too salty, but no need for more salt. Noodles are thin and perfectly al dente. 4.25/5 • Water refills every minute if you're a water drinker like myself 5/5 Extremely pleased with this last-minute decision dinner plan. Bill came out to 70$ish for 2 ramens, 1 takoyaki, 1 side order of noods, and tip.

Incredible Ramen! I went to Ippudo in New York a while back and it was great, so when I saw this, I was so excited! Very friendly staff, and she helped us pick out a nice sake to go with our meal. All our food was great! Definitely will come back next time I'm in SF.

Spicy Tuna Roll…a Dish of Its Own! The Spicy Tuna Roll is the star here, fresh, balanced, and packed with flavor. It’s one of those rare rolls that feels like its own signature dish rather than just another sushi staple. The Brussels Sprouts are delightful, perfectly crisp, lightly charred, and seasoned just right. A simple dish elevated by great technique. And that Akamura Modern Broth? A total blessing in a bowl, rich, comforting, and beautifully layered. It ties the whole meal together like a culinary exclamation point. An easy five stars.

Great place, Great find on a working trip to San Francisco. The pork buns are phenomenal, so much so, I ordered a second one... The ramen was delicious, very well balanced, and the broth fantastic. The desert was totally unexpected... it is very, very big, enough for 3.

Dropped in last Saturday evening during happy hour (~3–6 pm). We walked in and got a table without much wait, even with a decent crowd. Drinks were excellent: I had two Toru highballs (crisp, not too sweet) and a yuzu-citrus cocktail garnished with a dried mango slice—super refreshing. For bites, the blistered shishito peppers were addictive, and the trio of soft bao buns—chicken, pork, and shrimp—were all flavorful and perfectly balanced. The chicken karaage was the star: ultra-juicy inside with a light, crunchy coating. We stuck with classic Japanese mayo, but their house sauces looked great too. Service was friendly and quick, and the happy-hour pricing felt very fair for SF. Overall, tasty food, great drinks, and easy vibes. I highly recommend stopping by—especially for happy hour!

I truly enjoyed this place! It seems small when you enter, but there is a large dining area tucked behind curtains that was super lively and spacious. We were a party of 9 and ordered a variety of vegetarian options that included the eggplant bao buns, ramen, sushi, and fries (for the kids). Everything was very tasty, and the service from all the staff was excellent. We hope to be back again soon!

This restaurant has an impressive variety of vegetarian ramen options, and the portion sizes are very generous. While the ramen itself was flavorful, the broth was especially creamy, which really stood out. The starters were excellent, and the corn dish was surprisingly good. But honestly, the cocktails stole the show—super well crafted. Overall, a great spot and highly recommend, especially if you like rich, comforting ramen and good drinks.

The nirvana karaka was something different on the menu I don’t see at many other ramen shops so I decided to give it a try. The soy milk soup base is good, flavor is not too bold nor overwhelming. The last time I had a soymilk soup base was at Ramen Underground! The tofu chashu is excellent, but wish there was maybe one more slice. I don’t love mushrooms but I’m glad the enoki tempura didn’t taste like mushrooms. The niku-miso bolognese was an outlier, the flavor and consistency just didn’t really match the ramen; it didn’t taste revolutionary or extraordinary but I could l’ve had the ramen without it. Ramen is so expensive in the US compared to Japan smh.

The food was good. We ordered the Brooklyn Bridge sushi roll, and the inside was good. However I did not like the mayo they put on it, and the person accompanying me did not like the eggplant. We then ordered the Chicken Kara-Age Rice which was DELICIOUS 😋!! We also ordered the the Nirvana Karaka, which AMAZING 🤩 !! However the people operating the shop were a little unclear on what we had to do. When we first entered, there were some flaps behind a desk. We stood there for a bit, then someone came. Overall, the food was delicious, the atmosphere amazing, but the service could be just a little better.

It was too cold, so I went in. I wish the soup was a little hotter to stop the wind from San Fran. I tried a new flavor of ramen. To my taste, the yuju shoyu ramen was a bit salty, but my friend's Karaka spicy ramen was delicious. It seems that the interior was more important than the Palo Alto store, and it is quite cool. It’s worth a visit.

We had the Akamaru modern for 3 and it took them about 30min to serve but for the Dragon Tantan didn’t arrived until we were done and the 4th person had to eat alone. As you enter at the restaurant and if there’s nobody waiting at the reception, don’t wait, or you’ll be waiting for no one. Just enter. We waited for 5 min and decided to go in and still, it took awhile for someone to get us a table.

I’m a San francisco local, I’m familiar with the nuances and cost of living in this city. My Miso Ramen $22 was tasty, but portions were very small, good service and comfortable setting. I was surprised that their pricing was not in alignment with their menu. My Miso came to $32 plus tax (no substitutes). As a result my overall experience is 3 due to the small portions, and over price. (Very touristy, not for locals).

Ippudo [一風堂]in Japan is like our “Denny’s” and isn't exceptionally expensive despite the fact that it has had to raise prices there also due to the increased cost of raw materials and partly attributed to the ongoing inflation. In fact, its prices are comparable to many other popular ramen joints in Japan and are often cheaper than its international prices. However, “Ippudo Yerba Buena” in San Francisco is located in the alley of Yerba Buena Lane next to Four Seasons Hotel and to sum up: ❶ The Dashi quality of its tonkotsu or miso ramen, which requires a lot of time and effort to prepare if they truly do 😔, is unremarkable and too salty to my taste buds.❷ The ramen noodles “Tokyo-style thick wavy noodles” are average and Chasu is also too salty. ❸ Other ingredients such as “fried onion chips, ginger, seasoned bamboo shoots, spinach, corn, diced red onions” are decent and inclusive as advertised. However, $4 for Tamago (“egg”) which is usually included in the price tag of ramen ($23) in any other Japanese Ramen shops in The City is considered an “extra topping” which leaves bad taste in mouth. ❹ Service is a little slow on average and seating is also typical diner style nothing private enough much less romantic. ❺ Three stars is my generous rating considering food quality and service satisfaction; however, the overcharging price will scale it down to 2 1/2. {$70 some for two Ramens including tips arguably are not typical price for average Joe diner.} PS The meanings of Ippudo in Kanji “一風堂” are: One “一I” Wind “風ppu” Hall “堂do.” One “一I” is one stroke simply describing the horizon; Wind “風” describes eight directions of wind in meteorology (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW). Hall “堂”in original Kanji pronounces as Tong, simply means “palace or meeting hall,” which sometimes refers to historical Chinese American benevolent societies or associations that were somehow associated with organized crime in Chinatown such as the infamous “Shrimp Boy” described by the media.

The ramen was just okay and a bit pricey, but I really enjoyed the takoyaki and edamame. The only drawback was that it was quite loud when we visited, which slightly affected the experience.

Somehow remember this spot to be much better. Really expensive now for very small portion size. Got the Karaka spicy and it was ok. What you would expect from any decent bowl of tonkotsu ramen. Would have preferred the enoki tempura to be served in larger bites as well, but it was tasty nonetheless. Very quick service, and fine decor. Overall, it's a nice place for a business lunch I would say, but not really worth it otherwise.

Mimi Zhang

Everything was bizarre including the service. 1. A $21 ramen just has a tiny portion (photo shown with original portion), one third of what you usually get. Plus it only has several really thin pieces of meat and tiny amount of rather thin noodle. Even with this “fine dining” portion, taste is very mediocre. 2. BUN MEDLEY supposed to include four buns based on their menu photo, but only three served. Wasn’t that fake advertisement? 3. The server immediately placed the bill card reader on our table as soon as us finished the last bite. Excuse me? We not even asked the check yet and the store was super empty on a weekday afternoon. What’s the hurry to kick us out?
