Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! From the friendly hostess and waitress, to the specialty drinks to our appetizer of popovers and the burrata with jam, to our meals of the steak sandwich, which it seems to be very popular as we saw a lot of people ordering this, to my house special of striped bass over cannelloni beans in a vegetable stew. The menu has something for everyone. And best of all it’s fairly priced. The meals are not large portions but that in no way detracts from the meal. The appetizers are varied and this menu has something for everyone. We can’t wait to go back and try something different. We highly recommend this great addition to Sayville. Oh, it is a bit noisy but if you can sit towards the back it’s a good idea.
We come to The Wayward for great food and great service! The burgers here are so good, but the bun has a saturated glaze that seems to be butter...sometimes only tasting butter and drowning out the burger.
The Wayward kitchen is a total winner, nailing appetizers, drinks, and entrees with creative flavors and perfect execution. The popevers with their are gigantic, airy, and tasty. The Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon Tips was an outstanding starter, however the Kung Pao Cauliflower was the most creative and tasty app I've enjoyed in a long time. My Sesame Crusted Salmon was amazing as well my family's Short Rib Rigatoni, and salad with salmon. Excellent service from entering, bartender, and server.
This dish is pure decadence. The Cheese Stuffed Rigatoni is smothered in a rich, velvety Housemade Vodka Sauce. Generous chunks of melted Fresh Mozzarella and savory Grilled Chicken make it exceptionally hearty. The mix of spinach, zucchini, and roasted tomatoes balances the richness. It is a stunning, elevated comfort food. Verdict: Intensely flavorful and highly recommended. PS: its family friendly.
Marcia was fantastic, food was 10/10 no notes. Got the Buffalo Chicken Dip for apps and the Braised Short Rib for entree. Their Chocolate Flourless cake is a dream. Highly recommend anyone try out this place. Gluten Free friendly as well!
We held our son's rehearsal dinner in the Wayward's private party room. Afterwards we received many compliments on the food, the staff and how well it was organized. Since we were from out of town, we were nervous that making arrangements for the party would be difficult. Working with Tara, Wayward's event coordinator, made all the planning easy! She was always available to answer our many questions, had many great ideas for our event and was an expert when it came to their buffet catering menu and helping us pull together our food choices. She also organized a great service staff for our event. The food was wonderful and served right on time. The service staff worked diligently during our entire event. I would highly recommend the Wayward Kitchen and Tara if you are planning a private party.
Every time we visit, it's a great experience. They hit all the marks with food, service, and atmosphere. Food is always full of flavor, portions are great. Service is great whether you're sitting at the bar or sitting at a table. We always love coming here!
Every visit here is nothing short of amazing. The food is always fresh and flavorful, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the drinks are spot-on every time. But what truly sets this place apart is the service, especially from Meg, Ari and Jules. We normally sit at the bar, and they always take the best care of us—but even if we’re at a table, they’ll make sure to grab it so they can look after us. They know us by name, remember our orders, and there’s never a question about what we need because they just know. It’s that personal touch that makes every experience here so special. Hardworking, kind, and genuinely attentive—Meg and Jules go above and beyond, and we couldn’t appreciate them more. This restaurant is lucky to have them, and we’ll keep coming back again and again because of the incredible hospitality they provide.

My first visit and all I could say is wow. The restaurant itself is large and sleek and had a solid crowd when we stopped in for an early lunch on a Friday. Started with a blood orange Marg and a strong bourbon based drink. A thing of popcorn was given to us with the drinks while we looked at the menu. We started with some tuna tacos and “way way shrimp”. The tuna was fresh and paired great with the spicy mayo and Asian slaw in perfectly crispy Minton tacos. The shrimp were large and perfectly fried and served with a delicious pineapple salsa that provided a nice contrast to the heat from the Thai chili sauce. They had French onion soup on special so that was a must order. Rich and loaded with onions this really hit the spot. We then ordered a steak sandwich and a Cuban sandwich. Both were delicious but the steak sandwich was next level. Perfectly cooked ribeye with carmelized onions, Gruyère cheese with arugula and Dijon horseradish sauce on soft fresh bread. I could not be more impressed with the restaurant or the food and to top it all off our server Jules was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable as we talked our way through the menu. Truly a great experience. Say like is lucky to have the Wayward!!!!
'The Wayward' takes mixology to the next level. The 'Tally Me Banana Rum Punch' and 'The Wayward Watermelon Margarita' were revelations - bursting with unique flavors that transported our taste buds to paradise. Kudos to the talented bartender who crafted these masterpieces. For appetizers, we couldn't get enough of the 'Thai chili wings,' which had just the right amount of heat to tingle our taste buds. The 'BK Burrata' was incredibly fresh and a definite 10/10 recommendation. And let's not forget the 'Mac and Cheese with truffle' – it was a heavenly indulgence. These appetizers easily satisfy two people. Moving on to the main course, we savored 'The Bacon Wrapped Center Cut Filet' and the 'New York Strip.' Both dishes were culinary triumphs, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to impeccable flavor and quality. Our dining experience was made even more exceptional by our server, Olivia, whose professionalism and attentiveness were truly commendable. She added a personal touch to our evening and made it unforgettable. Don't miss the opportunity to savor the innovative dishes and exquisite drinks that this restaurant has to offer.
We had my baby shower here last weekend and it was all around an amazing experience. Tara, who organized everything was wonderful from beginning to end. So accommodating with all the dietary restrictions we had. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful to my family day-of. Everyone was raving about the atmosphere and food. The pricing is extremely reasonable for what you get. The room is a great size, very spacious. I cannot say enough good things. They really are wonderful. 10/10
So freakinggg AWESOME! I had such an amazing experience here! The staff was extremely polite, professional, & accommodating. The food was bomb, I got sticky ribs and a steak sandwhich which had arugula and I think Gruyère cheese which is one of my fave things to get eating out. Honestly I’m not a big french fry person but these fries were sick, they tasted super fresh and crispy like they made them from scratch, probably the best fries I’ve had. They killed it and the specialty cocktails were amazing as well. My waitress was an older women who was super attentive and so sweet, she called me hun & love, & just had an overall nice/positive presence to her. I loved the atmosphere and color scheme of the place and how they incorporated some old stuff from crickets. Will deff be making this one of my regular go to spots! More than 5 stars for sure!
Came here with a large party for NYE for a late dinner. The interior is very misleading from the street, the interior is pretty big with a lot of tables and bar seating available. Not a lot of parking out front, but there is a rear entrance you can use that has a much bigger parking lot for your ease. Service was decent, we got forgotten about once right off the bat, but once we got things straightened out staff were helpful, kind, and attentive. Starting off with drinks, I had tried their gingerbread old fashioned and their boozy coquito. The old fashioned was nothing special, but I did enjoy the little gingerbread man it came with. The coquito on the other hand was very tasty, albeit a little bit boozier than I expected, but I don't often mind a heavy pour. Next up for food, starting with apps, I tried the pretzel which comes with a cheese sauce and mustard on the side. Just as good as you'll find it at any bar serving it up these days. For entrees, I had their signature burger and tried a bite of my girlfriend's steak sandwich, and she definitely came out the winner. Burger was good, but nothing that made it standout much from other good smash burgers. The steak sandwich though was cooked well and didn't all just pull out on the first bite, which to me is the key indicator of a good steak sandwich! Was overall a nice dinner and I'd certainly like to comeback and try more of the menu and I've often been tempted to stop by for their bingo nights, they always seem to have awesome prizes.
Had a nice time with a couple friends here last night. Marcia was a very attentive and friendly server. Food was a little pricey but tasty. I think of the plating was just a bit nicer it would justify the pricing, but as is it's just a little unbalanced for what you pay Only real complaint was the bathroom was a little gross despite the place not being super busy.
1st time there. Sat at the bar. Not a great beer selection. Prices were fair. Smash burger was ok. Overcooked. Buffalo dip was also just ok.
Tell 'em Barsnobs sent ya! So this replaced the old Crickets. I love Sayville. It's a slower, change of pace town then Patchogue or Islip or Bayshore. With that being said, having a new restaurant there is refreshing. Does it hold up? Somewhat. The place was busy on a Friday night so I expected it to be slower in service and I was right. Almost 15 minutes before we got served but our service was magnificent. Very friendly and nice. The drinks were good, not outstanding. We had the Fall Margarita. They were tasty but nothing fancy. As far as the food goes, it was good but not great. The app we had was the Burrata and it was very good. The main course we had was the Flank Steak and the Cauliflower Steak. Both very tasty. Flank Steak was smaller than expected. The Cauliflower Steak was good although the sauce on top was heavy in a vinegar/mint flavor, which was a little too much. The place was very nice and clean. I like the look, very clean lines, good dim lighting and cozy. Overall, we have had better, but we have seen worse. I think they have a chance. It was packed so people are enjoying it, and that's good. Just wanted to give a good review. There is some good stuff and some stuff to improve, in our opinion. I recommend you go and find out for yourself.
Very dark and dreary atmosphere....not conducive for dining. Service was okay. Now the food was very sub par. Portions extremely small. You can tell salmon was not fresh probably was frozen....salads were just okay. Everything else was just barely okay. It was like eating deli food that had table service. They don't even cook there own roast beef...they buy it pre-cooked like a deli. Sorry no reason to ever go back
