We have patronized Don’s restaurants for over 40 years. We loved Dons River City Cafe in Ricky River and were there weekly but unfortunately it closed. Don’s Pomeroy House is still thriving after all these years. The parking lot was full on Thursday meeting. We ate outside but when we attend again the Pub atmosphere was really nice and cozy so would fine there. The traffic noise outside was annoying especially motorcycles. Good food and great service!
Food was delicious!! The server was attentive and water glasses were always full. The vegan ravioli was top notch and I highly recommend! The filet was one of the best we had.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here the other night, and everything was absolutely perfect. We were seated in a cozy, tucked-away spot overlooking the dining room which was quiet, intimate, and peaceful. The ideal setting for a special evening. Our waitress was outstanding - attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed with everything. The food was exceptional from start to finish. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were incredible. They were perfectly cooked with pine nuts, bacon, and a touch of maple syrup. It’s easy to get Brussels sprouts wrong, but these were phenomenal! For our main course, we had the filet mignon and the New York strip steak, both cooked to perfection. The vegetables and potatoes complemented the steaks beautifully, and we left feeling full and satisfied. To top off the evening, the staff surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate our 4th anniversary, which was a delicious slice of cheesecake that was the perfect finishing touch. Their thoughtfulness really made our night special. Despite the restaurant serving several large parties that evening, service was smooth and timely. Our waitress checked in often without being intrusive. The wine list is also excellent, they offer some fantastic Cabernet Sauvignons that pair perfectly with a steak dinner. Overall, we had a truly wonderful experience and would highly recommend this restaurant for an elegant dinner or any special occasion. It’s not only a beautiful dining experience, but the place also has some fascinating history worth reading about!
The filet mignon was to die for tender as could be and cooked to perfection! The French onion soup was delicious. The mashed potatoes were a little cold and hard, but that is the only thing I can find a complain about. If you go between lunch and 5:00 dinner you will have to go downstairs to the pub to eat.
Tracy, the General Manager, helped me with my gift card totals and when I found out it was quite a nice chunk of spending money, she joined my joy! Treated my friends to an amazing meal, great service by Grace and fantastic Lemon Drop Martinis! Tracy even stopped by our table to check on us during our meal. Great atmosphere and crew. We ate in the Pub area and it was comfy, casual and highly recommend you check it out ❤️
We celebrated my mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. Our server, Autumn, was excellent and the food was delicious.
Everything about this place was incredible. We got Jeff as our server and he was very considerate. He even boxed up her food and threw away the fatty bits of steak she cut off but kept the ones that weren't. Firstly, compliments to the chef. The food was timely, and the steak was the best I've ever eaten, hands down. I got the 16 oz NY Strip and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. Complete compliments to the wait staff and bartender. The mixed drinks were also top notch. Will be returning.
Stopped bye on Tuesday night for the $19 8oz Strip Steak and fries in the Downstairs Bar. Very tasty and a great deal. They have daily specials in the bar.
Great atmosphere, the tail was amazing, but the steak was cooked well, but taste like burned, delicious desserts and great customer service, the onion soup was delicious and well made
This was my first visit to the establishment a few days ago. For the most part the food was very good, only exception was the cheese cake. It was not good at all. My mixed drink was way too strong and didn't taste like what I ordered. Beautiful atmosphere and perfect to talk to each other in. Waitress was attentive but overly so. Altho the food was very good for the most part, I feel the prices were very high for what we had. The biggest con was all the stairs! Yikes, 4 flights to get to the restaurant! 2 flights to get to the pub! Would not suggest heels as I did, very scary! Parking is in back and building is up a bit of a hill. All in all we both had a nice time. Lighting was dimmed which was a nice touch. I would recommend at least once! Dress is dressy casual to dressed up.
First time at the restaurant. We were seated promptly and on our journey to our table, we got to see the large dining area. It has very comfortable seating. We were greeted by our server, who seemed a bit hurried as he collected the drink orders. That was pretty much his demeanor throughout the service. I guess there were no specials, because none were shared. I ordered the Rhode Island calamari and the crispy brussel sprouts for our appetizers. Nothing note worthy about the calamari's presentation or taste. It almost looked dark from the frying. The marinara sauce was outstanding. The sprouts were good, but could have used more glaze. I selected was the sea bass with roasted carrots and savory bread pudding as my entree. Every thing about the entree was spot on!. The texture of the fish was crispy on the outside and flaked on the inside. Perfect in every way. The carrots were very good and the savory bread pudding was an unexpected pleasure. The only opportunity area for the entree was the portion size of the fish. At that price point, there should have been a larger piece. I would visit the restaurant again.
We had dinner in the dining room next to the fireplace. The food was delicious. I truly mean delicious! The atmosphere was beautiful but definitely on the older side. A little modernization and updating could bring in a younger crowd. We were the youngest couple there by probably 25 years. My review would have been 5 stars if we had only had dinner in the dining room and left. But, we decided to go down to the pub after dinner. I understand it's a pub but you could turn on some lights. It was like a dungeon down there. I had noticed there was a very nice bourbon list and wanted to try a couple. Which is what led us to go downstairs. I ordered a single on the rocks. The bartender filled the rocks glass to the brim. I never thought I'd complain about over pouring but when you are drinking 115 proof and already had a couple cocktails with dinner I barely finished the one pour and did not try any others. Over pouring cost you sales.
The entree items were good, the sides were a little bland for my tastes. The waiter was nice, the bus lady was good at filling water. But she took our leftovers and threw them out. We had half a NY strip steak and sides plus my 1/4 rack of lamb with risotto left. We saw another table receive boxed leftovers and assumed ours would be too but my dessert to go and our check came and we never got them. That was a pretty decently priced dinner to get half thrown out, so I'm disappointed by that. I don't think we'll be dinning here again.
Three stars, and the stars have nothing to do with the food. We ate at The Pub, the downstairs area of Don’s Pomeroy House, and unfortunately the meal was a major letdown. We ordered three appetizers and four entrées, and every dish missed the mark. The mussels arrived with cold broth, the wings were slightly undercooked and cold, and the shrimp appetizer was only lukewarm. I ordered the special — a brisket sandwich — and the meat tasted more like thin roast beef, dry enough that even the barbecue sauce couldn’t help. The fries on the side were cold and soggy. The only reason this isn’t a one-star review is because the bartender/server was genuinely fantastic — friendly, attentive, and the bright spot of our visit. The live music and atmosphere were also great. But the food was incredibly disappointing, and I wouldn’t come back to eat here again.
Have always had great dinners at The Pub downstairs and the main restaurant upstairs. Went to the pub for dinner on a Thursday. Great atmosphere as usual, and bonus - a guy playing tunes on a guitar (really good). My wife's sandwich - really good. My split pea soup - good. My brisket sandwich special - yikes. Really thick slices, some a little tougher (was expecting it to be cut thinner and pull apart easily) , but it had a huge slice of tough solid gristle/fat on each side of the sandwich that couldn't be chewed and had to be pulled out and discarded whole (like 2"x3" each). I would have expected that would have been cut off while the food was prepped. I mentioned it and pointed them out when the table was cleared but didn't make a big deal of it (not my style). A free dessert or coffee, and I'd have been willing to call it good, but evidently our server didn't pick up on it (her service otherwise was friendly and good). The sandwich definitely wasn't up to the standards I'd come to expect from The Pomeroy House, and kind of put a damper on an otherwise good experience.
This is my second time here in the last couple of years, and my first experience around this time of year (~6 days before Christmas) was great, but this year left a lot to be desired, especially when you pay this much. Upon arriving on time for our reservation we waited an additional 20 minutes for a table as they were short on staff to bus tables, and then upon being seated we were immediately informed that the kitchen was short-staffed and that we might be delayed. The servers were attentive but noticeably were being rushed due to a short staff. All food items we ordered were lukewarm (lobster tail, steak), the bread came out during our meal because they didn't have any bread ready for when we sat down, and the order of calamari we got was completely different than what was advertised on the menu (menu was more traditionally styled, this order came with a sweet Thai sauce (likely a rollover from the lunch menu)). I think we'll pick a different place next year for the holidays. Could be just a bad night but not a great experience when you pay $250+
Well, sometimes how you react can be read many different ways. The wife and I had a random day off and opted to go here for lunch. We always love the Don P salad and thought the pierogi app sounded good then the soup of the day ended up being a favorite type for us. So as I was explaining to the server we were going to split the apps and order a lunch entree in a minute or two he actually snickered? Uhh 🤔? I didn't want to be aggressive and say "something funny!" but it took what was supposed to be a random fun lunch we rarely get without the kids to an ugly experience. I wanted to say - What's so funny, you got a problem, what the hell man? Well, I wanted to walk out and the wife said well, we ordered it we will eat it and just leave with no entree. The order would have been 3X higher. Disappointed to say the least. Might have ment nothing but how you act makes a difference especially in service. Next time one of my patients says my back hurts I guess I will laugh and stare and see what happens.
I had short ribs and they were not good at all. The risotto was very mushy and flavorless and it was so much barbecue sauce all over the place and dry for the price. My husband had steak and it was dry and small portions with no flavor. Not worth taking a picture.
I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be really good. Last night though, my husband and I waited 30 minutes for our drinks and then another hour for our cold meals. The "C.A.B." NY strip he ordered was definitely NOT C.A.B! And my "6oz" lobster tail was maybe 2 oz. I attached a picture and that was taken before a single bite was taken. That was the whole meal they were charging $40 for. The mashed potatoes they slopped under it were slimy and tasted leftover/ microwaved. I complained about the size of tail and they brought me an additional 2 oz tail that was overcooked and tasted reheated. It was dry, rubbery, and even crispy on the sides. It seemed like it had been sitting around in a warmer for a long time. This was one of the most disappointing meals I've ever had in a restaurant and I’m still so angry about the wasted money.
Birthday dinner reservation made for 2 at 7:30pm on Saturday, 12/27. African Americans are perceived as not wanted at this establishment due to the unwelcoming “service” we received. The hosts barely acknowledged us when checking in for the reservation. We were sat at a 4 seater round table in a corner. My boyfriend spoke to say “Hi, how are you?” to the waitress who arrived with the waters, she placed them down then gave us a distasteful stare and left without saying anything. We left after the disrespect we encountered and they canceled the birthday reservation when we got into the car. The employers of the restaurant lacked humility, customer service, communication skills and certainly made it clear with their actions.
