Make sure to order the XLB and pan fried pork buns right away, for they take about 20 minutes. Ordered shanghai style fried noodles and rice cake as well. I definitely tasted a bit of a burnt flavor, and so I asked the lady to remake it. They were very accommodating and made it for us again. Although we still had a bit of that flavor on the second dish (which we realized it was probably just the flavor of their reused wok), it tasted less burnt because they fried it less for us. I'd definitely go back for their pan fried buns and XLBs, as well as rice cake.
The rice Katsu plate was delicious- hit the spot for an Asian-American. Nice shaded outdoor seating, but inside looked cozy too.
The pan fried buns are the best I've ever had in America. It has tasty juice, great portion of meat, the bun is not too thick and the bottom perfectly crunchy. Very authentic, rivals the ones I've had in China. Very impressed.
It's a casual place with very tasty food according to my eastern European taste buds. It's not a fine dining or anything but perfect for casual lunch or dinner with friends or lunch with colleagues.
Delicious food. Relaxed ambience. Friendly staff. We ordered Beef Noodle soup, Xialongbao, Minced pork and rice and Plum juice. Highly recommend every one of those. It’s sure to become a Go-to for good Chinese food for me.
I enjoyed the fried pork plate. For $17 including tax, the portion was substantial and flavorful. It came with a cold side salad, fermented egg, good portion of rice, pork short ribs, cabbage and egg salad. Overall very tasty and filling
Five stars for a regular lunch and dinner. The portions are very reasonable. Major Cuisine: Shanghai cuisine. Light and non-spicy at all. Usually has soy sauce combined with sugar. General notes: Good for 2-4 people, a bit tight for 4. Good place for a regular group meal. Recommendation: xiaolongbao, baizhanji, danchaofan, jinsitang.
A gem in a quiet neighborhood mall. Good Chinese restaurant with tasty food - yet not too salty or too sweet. It has a bright and cozy atmosphere. Yet affordable. Authentic Shanghai comfort food. The place can be very busy. One of the best beef noodle soup I ever have.
Great Shanghai restaurant. Very popular. Might need to wait. Noodles are all yummy. Highly recommand. Restaurant is located in small shopping mall.
Pan fried buns are impressive. Be careful so that you don't get burnt by the hot soup inside the buns. The sweet and sour ribs is traditonal shanghai flavor.
This is our favorite place to have dumplings. Xiolonbao is good too But you can skip the fried rice and noodles.
Authentic dishes. Good service. Hot and juicy pork buns. Great place to soothe my homesick
Diversified dishes and the flavor is pretty suitable to our family(Taiwanese). Restaurant is clean and the service is very good.
Nice spot for a casual meal. Come early, because the dinner crowd fills up the restaurant quickly. Pictured is their spare rib dish-- one of their recommended dishes. Also, their mustard green rice cake dish is good. I would come back to try more dishes -- their soups look popular.

Ordered 8 dishes and all were delicious! Pan fried dumplings, beef noodle soup, and salted egg yolk fried pork were the standouts. Excellent and super authentic Shanghainese cuisine 😇👏🏻
New Chinese restaurant that replaced a Quiznos. Tried the soup dumplings and beef noodle soup today, both were ok. About half the soup dumplings are super juicy and tasty, but some have very little juice and were dry. My chopsticks skill is good so I'm sure I didn't break them. :) The beef noodle soup is good, beef is quite tender, noodles are ok, the soup has good flavor although a little thin. They are also generous on the veggies so I'm happy about that. Service is quite slow as they get used to the lunch crowd. I can tell the servers are really nice but just overwhelmed. They also got my change wrong (shorted me $5) but corrected it when I brought it to their attention. Not a big deal but just double check since they're so busy. Credit card minimum $25. Will come back to try some other stuff!
Update: Recently gave this place another try and I was not disappointed. Glad that this place has returned to its previous quality. This place used to be good, but has become so much worse recently. We ordered five dishes for take out. Three were too bland and had no taste. One (xiaolongbao) was not fully cooked. Wasted eighty dollars for nothing. I’m angry but even more sad for what this place has become.
Decent Chinese food for lunch. Quick and efficient service, but the beef noodle soup was not very flavorful. The stir-fried bamboo and pork was good though. Small parking lot in the front, but a larger parking lot in the back makes it easy to find a spot. Nice location if you want a quiet lunch on your own.
I’ve wanted to come here for a while after seeing a picture of their pan fried dumplings- and I have to say the pan fried dumplings were definitely the star of the show for me. We came around 1pm on a Sunday and they were pretty busy, we had to wait ~15 minutes for a table. The service overall was very, very, slow. It was slow getting someone to come by our table to place our order. The pork w/ salted egg yolk and minced pork dry noodles came out within reasonable timing but after they came out, we had to wait another 20 minutes for the pan fried dumplings to arrive at our table (which I can confirm via my photo timestamps XD). After the pork w/ salted egg yolk came out, we also asked for a bowl of rice to go with it which seemed like a simple request but it took a while. We saw the person we asked go in and out of the kitchen multiple times, delivering rice to another table before we got ours. Pan fried dumplings - super delicious!! They are made so well, crispy on the bottom, filled with wonderful juices and meat. They are a bit bigger than I expected but that’s just personal preference. Minced pork dry noodles - nothing special here. After seeing and eating it I feel like it’s definitely something I could make myself at home and I wouldn’t get it again. Pork w/ Salted Egg Yolk - this was very tasty, (and super filling). The outside was so flavorful and crunchy. If you like salted egg yolk flavors/snacks, I would definitely recommend trying this dish! Come Again? Probably not, but wouldn’t be opposed. They definitely do have some tasty food but the service was really slow and lunch took us over an hour for only 3 dishes.
They do have lots of varieties to pick, I don't know where to began so I start with noodles soup I ordered beef tendon noodle soup, the meat is pretty tender to eat and good flavor! Though I don't like the noodle it's flat noodle and pretty thick and not cooked well! I would have asked them sub with thin noodles! Good greens on.. luvd their curd bean salad it's an cold appetizer, served with celery and carrots great taste and fresh flavors of Chinese sauce. Their thin noodle with pork tender are pretty good to try on, I luvd that noodles more than flat one.. Well need to come back to try dim sun and others stuffs too! Pretty busy though... But the service is fast and welcoming. Taste 5* ambience 4* value 5* customer service 4* Indoor sitting ✓ No outdoor × Parking ✓
Newly opened restaurant, and we visited here on weekend. Lots of groups in waiting list, waiting around 30-40 mins for Saturday lunch. We ordered beef noodle, xiaolongbao, mix mix. For beef noodle soup, the broth was great, but noodle was soso. Overall, restaurant is clean and service is good.
We ordered 3 items during our first visit here and they were all pretty good flavor-wise. Docked one star because our third item (sheng jian bao) came out when we were almost done eating. We still like Chef Zhao in Palo Alto better but this is a good option to come back to.

The noodle flavor is good but not enough sauce. Became a big disappointment. Vegetable rice with salty pork - salty pork lack flavor. Had better Salty egg yolk pork - heavy oily taste. The salty egg lack salty egg flavor but there were lots salty egg covered. This, poor quality of salty egg yolk. Pan fried buns - good. The skin is not very thick like some others. Flavor is just ok though. Soup inside so it's legit just meat lack flavor.
We went here for dinner. This place is usually busy but we got seated pretty quickly. Our order consisted of: Chicken wonton soup: Was served hot in a single large pot and we were given smaller soup bowls and spoons. Soup had very good refreshing flavors. We particularly liked the sea weed flavor. Chow Mein Shanghai style: Nothing to write home about for this entree. it was ok. We however did feel cheated of our chicken here. There were hardly any. Chicken Tonkatsu: Tasted alright and wasn't too oily. Chicken Xiaolongbao: This was the one we were waiting for. We had 3 orders for this one and it was good. They mention on the menu it takes 25 minute for this entree to be served. They were served in steel dumpling steamers stacked one on top of the other. I might say it was a slight attraction for other diners. The xiaolongbaos were steamed well and the chicken and soup tasted veery good. Ambience: Casual. No booths. Clean well maintained. Quantity: Ok Parking: Adequate Times visited: 1

Update 9/18/2022: had a very disappointing customer experience. We called to place a pickup order and was told that it’ll be ready in 35 mins. When we arrived 35 mins later, it was still not ready, and they also got our order wrong. So we ended up waiting another 30 mins. It was such a waste of time and disappointment. There were no apologies or proper explanations either. We have been a repeat customer since Old Town’s opening, and I’m disappointed to see that their service has been deteriorating over time. Authentic Shanghainese dishes + some Taiwanese fusion. My favorite dish at this restaurant is egg dumpling with cabbage soup (蛋饺砂锅). The ingredients are well cared for
Update: friends advised that they either changed owner or changed chef recently. Maybe that was reason we had such a bad experience. Will not go back until other friends recommend again.
The short-haired waitress is particularly arrogant and rude. If you want to experience it, you will not be disappointed. You can fully experience her service of throwing tableware for you and appreciate her dismissive face. Four out of five times we came to this restaurant for dinner, we were treated coldly by her, and the remaining one was because we didn't meet her. Will not come again in the future.
I used to come here a lot but apparently their dishes is not consistent in taste. I ordered the simmered combination and the bean curd tasted sour and spoiled. Sakura shrimp cabbage was very different, it tastes like raw cabbage that is bitter in taste. Sweet sour spareribs is super rubbery and hard in texture, overly sweetened and salted. The worst dish was the celery and dried bean curd, it tasted super salty and the bean curd is super spoiled. I am super disappointed and I don’t think they serve foods that are safe to eat.
WARNING: BAD SERVICE ATTITUDE!! Food is ok but I had a utmost terrible experience tonight ordering takeout. First I ordered through their website for takeout. The website said transaction failed.. So I called to place the order. When I got to the store, they told me both orders were accepted and the owner BLAMED me to place double order instead of investigating their website. They scolded me for the inconvenience I brought to them and I wasted their food. It was extremely terrible attitude from their side. And they pressed me to pay for both orders and only offered to dispute the credit card charge for me, which I doubt they will help with. It is not about the extra charge, it is the attitude of the owner that blames customer for their own fault that disgusts me.
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experiences at this establishment. I used to be a frequent visitor, and one of the waitresses, an elder lady, was always very nice and accommodating. However, my recent visits have been nothing short of horrible due to some extremely rude waitress. I was told that my order was ready, only to find out that it wasn't prepared after waiting for additional 50 minutes. To make matters worse, I discovered that they had my food ready but were prioritizing other orders ahead of mine. When I inquired about the delay, the waitress rudely yelled at me and kept lying, claiming my food was not ready and I need to wait outside the property. This lack of honesty and respect is unacceptable. I ended up canceling my order online due to the mistreatment and dishonesty from the staff. Sadly, some of my friends also encountered similar issues, and they, too, noticed a decline in food quality. The rude behavior of the waitress and the poor service have left a lasting negative impression on me. I have decided never to return to this restaurant , and I cannot recommend it to anyone else. It is essential for businesses to value their customers and provide a positive experience, but unfortunately, that has not been the case here.
I would be exaggerating if I said the food is average. The dishes are oily, salty, stale, I didn’t get a sense of Shanghai food, though we ordered all the typical ones: 马兰头,熏鱼,红烧肉 etc。 What is worse is they automatically added 18% to the bill for group of more than 5 people. However, my younger daughter (8 years old) didn’t eat anything and barely sat there for 10 mins and left. But we were still charged for the 18% automatically. When I asked, a staff member gave me a cold shoulder and said it is a headcount regardless of eat or not or how long she sat at the table. BTW, their POS won’t take Apple Pay, which seems to be very unusual for a restaurant these days.
Bad food! All the names of the dishes on the menu are authentic but the results are nothing close. I purposely tried 3 dishes for myself to make sure I don't judge based on 1 or 2 dishes. Xiaulon bao, the meat taste like bouncy meat ball, too tough and tight. The preserved vegetable noodle soup tasted from can food, I specifically asked the waitress to ask the cook before I order it whether the vegetable is from the can, the answer back was the cook made it by himself. The bitter melon soup taste like regular broth but with few boiled bitter melon. I was drawn to the restaurant because of the authentic dishes on their website and the good reviews but what a disappointment! Nowadays this is common mostly Chinese restaurants are serving cut corner food due the sloppiness or they have lost the real cook try to cut cost.
Food is below expectations. Chicken has no taste and the sauce is not right. Sticky pot bun is not crispy. Deep fried pork chop is dried. One timer only.
Expensive, mediocre food, very oily and bland taste. The bao is a bit too sweet, the dumpling is not fresh, the pork is salty… i regretted
I ordered wonton soup, and the meat filling was still frozen. When I asked for a replacement, they just threw away the wonton I had already bitten into and reheated the remaining ones. Throughout the whole experience, they never apologized.

Food is alright, but god damn their service is bad. Would never go back no matter how good their food is. We asked for some glasses cuz we had a friend who brought a drink that she wants everyone to try. The pity owner claims “ we don’t have enough glasses if you don’t order from us” Bruhhh what kind of restaurant don’t have glasses for an extra drink???? Such a pity move.
