I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday dinner, and it turned out to be a lovely experience overall. The ambiance was warm and charming, especially comforting on a gloomy, rainy evening. It felt cozy and inviting the moment we walked in. Every dish we tried was beautifully presented and delicious. The flavors were thoughtful, and the seafood in particular was cooked perfectly. I couldn’t stop thinking about the lobster risotto and scallop. My other dining companions also got shrimp scampi and rockfish which they enjoyed. The only miss for all four of us was the lobster bisque, which unfortunately leaned a bit too salty for our taste. Aside from that, everything else exceeded expectations. A special shoutout to our server, Scott E. He was impeccable. Attentive without being intrusive, incredibly professional, and genuinely thoughtful throughout the night. His service truly elevated the experience and made the dinner feel enjoyable. I’d absolutely return and would happily recommend this place for a special occasion!
We’ve been here twice in a month already — yes, we came to use a gift card and the 25% veteran discount — but honestly, we would’ve come back anyway! Love the food, love the view, and the service has been great both times. Everything was just as good as I expected. For our first dinner visit, we had the Baked Lobster Dip, Lobster Risotto, and the 3-course Twilight Dinner (with chowder, Sockeye Salmon, and the Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse Torte for dessert). Everything was so good we were practically licking our plates! The second time, we came for lunch — the crab cakes were spot on, and the fish & chips were perfectly chunky and crispy (I was full after just one piece!). My husband had the Wagyu burger, which was juicy and flavorful. We’ll definitely be back again — great food, great view, and always a pleasant experience.
We attempted to have dinner here but came across an issue and were not able to attend. We seen the good reviews and did not want to miss trying this restaurant, so we had lunch. The sourdough bread was very good to start. We had the soup and sandwich combos. We tried the lobster bisque (delicious) and had both the Connecticut and Maine lobster rolls. The rolls were both extremely tasty and worth getting. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The view is pleasant. We will definitely return to try their dinner service. Don't miss on this gem!!
My two brothers and I brought our parents for their 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday night. First, my overall impression of my first time here was good, but not great. The staff members were kind and knowledgeable. The woman serving us gave really insightful advise about the menu and we didn't regret a single thing ordered on her recommendation. But overall, it seemed the staff was a tiny bit overworked for really good personal service, from the hostess to the buser. Had it not be a very dark and downpouring night, the window seat would have been great. However, our table was made for four people but a fifth chair was added to the end to accommodate all of us and at 5'9, I'm the shortest of the "kids". It made things a bit cramped; we juggled our drinks around to fit the plates and more than once a glass narrowly avoided being knocked over. The food was delicious. I recommend getting the lobster dip appetizer. It was fantastic and enough to share with the whole group. My lobster risotto was missing a little salt and some acid. Luckily, there was a salt shaker on the table and I stole a lemon wedge from my dad's plate. Then, it was perfection! We probably would have licked the plates clean, if we had had a few more cocktails. I had the key lime cheesecake - a firm, dense cheesecake with a key lime sauce. The balance was very nice, but I did envy the family members who got the peanut butter pie. That was silky and divinely rich. Strange to say, but the bourbon peach pound cake was probably the "lightest" desert that we ordered and it was also well flavored. Overall, I'd happily come back anytime, though I'd try to pick a less busy time and ask for a booth!
Enjoyed a very delicious lunch with wonderful views of Commencement Bay. Lobster Dip was divine! I ordered the combo lunch: clam chowder & half lobster roll. It was perfect. We were celebrating a birthday & our server was incredibly attentive.
We went here for our anniversary last year, October 24, 2024, we didn’t have reservations but we had our 3 kids with us. We arrived at 7:30, told the host that we didn’t have reservations and that it was our anniversary. We both worked and went straight to dinner so we weren’t dressed up, but also didn’t look we just walked up off the streets. They gave us the best table in the house, explained to us the menu as we told them it was our first time there. Let me tell you, the host and our waiters went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, this was one of the best dining experiences of our lives. The oysters were fresh, they gave us a few toppings to try on them, wow, I still haven’t had any other oysters that tasted like the ones we had that night. My husband and I opted for the 3 course dinner, mind blowing, the lobster bisque was heavenly, if I could pick my last meal on earth, that would be it😍 All in all, we could’ve been served a crappy meal but would still left a wonderful review because of how we were treated, even our kids said they loved this restaurant. I don’t know if the host and waiters are still there but if they are, I hope they read this and realize how so very special they made our anniversary evening. Thank you ☺️
During a recent girls' trip, we had the pleasure of dining at The Lobster Shop. From the moment we walked in, the management and waitstaff, esp. Leah, made us feel incredibly welcome. Their friendliness and attentiveness were evident throughout our meal, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. It’s always refreshing to encounter such genuine hospitality. Now, let’s talk about the food! Each dish we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The seafood was fresh and flavorful, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to quality. The most unexpected and memorable part of our experience came at the end of our meal. The manager surprised our group with a complimentary dessert and a toast of champagne. This thoughtful gesture truly topped off our evening and made us feel special. It’s these little touches that elevate a dining experience from good to unforgettable. Overall, The Lobster Shop exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking for a fantastic meal paired with exceptional service, I highly recommend stopping by. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, and I can’t wait to return!
Went here for the first time for dinner. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better! Our server did a wonderful job as well. Would highly recommend for a nice dinner
Went at happy hour, sat at the bar, great service, delicious food, will go back again. Tried the small lobster rolls. Never had one. The Connecticut was the best! Also tried their artichoke cakes. Wow what a pleasant surprise!
My wife, mother-in-law and I made reservations for a Tuesday evening at 7:15pm, right after the dinner rush. Our waitress Shana was amazing! Food was absolutely delicious and so was the dessert! We sat outside on the patio and everything was perfect - excellent atmosphere. Props to the management and our waitress, Shana. Will be returning 😁
Talia our server was very attentive and great. The food was delicious and desserts good. The flourless cake was spot on and the strawberry shortcake light. The salmon was cooked just right. We will be back and yes, the view was good too ☺️
I have been in Tacoma for about 7 weeks on and off! The staff are absolutely incredible, Diane has been my server most of the time and she knows the menu in and out! Try the lobster dip, it’s so flavorful and filling! Every single server has been absolutely amazing, the staff is wonderful. I’ve sat inside and out depending on if it’s cold and it’s the same experience! The staff is so kind and informs me when there are seals or fish jumping too, or what is happening in the ocean that day! Pretty amazing place! I highly recommend the Lobster Shop! The views are absolutely breathtaking!
Of all the places you can eat on the water in this area, this is definitely one of the best, especially on a beautiful summer afternoon. The food was incredible, service was exceptional, and the deck has an amazing view of the water. Will definitely be coming back here in spring and summer on a sunny day.
We celebrated a birthday and everything was great. Very tasty soup, excellent fish, meat and desserts. The service was excellent. Thank you, you made our day even better.
We had an AMAZING experience!! We got there for happy hour and were able to sit pretty quickly. The bartender Chris took care of us and had great recommendations. The food was hot and incredibly tasty. The manager greeted us and ensured we were well taken care off. Shoutout to Delonna ❤️❤️ if you have any interest PLEASE GO! 10/10 also as an added bonus the outside view is incredible of Mount Rainier 👏🏻
We had the most incredible dining experience at The Lobster Shop, and it was all thanks to our phenomenal server, Leah. From the moment we were seated on the gorgeous patio with stunning waterfront views, she made us feel right at home while still delivering the elevated experience of fine dining. We ordered champagne, oysters, the lobster risotto, crab bisque, and the wedge salad—every dish was absolutely delicious. The crab bisque was rich, buttery, and decadent, and the oysters were incredibly fresh. Leah gave amazing recommendations and had such graceful etiquette. She was kind, timely, attentive, and made the entire experience feel so special. You can tell she truly takes pride in her service and knows how to create a memorable evening. We highly recommend asking for Leah when you visit! Also, the remodel is beautiful—modern, coastal, and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back!
This place is phenomenal and the views to die for. The food is fresh, made to order and the flavors with a nice balance. The servings are big so be mindful if you want to share some of the food. We had the soup and sandwich combo and it was delicious pair this with a beer or wine and you have a winner. The dessert was the key lime cheesecake and also very good balance with the flavors. The service was outstanding and very friendly and attentive so you will be taken care of the whole time you are a guest there come and check them out.
I wish I could have tried their other food. Only had Oysters amd they were among the best i had. The iced champagnegrette was super delicious, horseradish was very spicy, as I like it. Had bread and a new take on pesto with yummy bread. Thin crust, crunchy but soft and slightly warm on the inside. What surprised me most was that the waiter proactively offered a lemon to my Hefeweizen. I believe it is spelled Hefewiezen on the menue card. But outside Germany, nobody served Hefeweizen with a lemon. Respect! And yes, the views and relaxed atmosphere was great. I ll definitely will come back
Fantastic food! Fresh oysters. The lobster dip was delicious. The scallops melted I. Out mouth. The service was perfect and filled with laughter. When they didn’t have a bred bowl, the manager had one specially made for our niece. Just a great experience. The restaurant is on the water with a million dollar view.
Went to the Lobster Shop for a Birthday lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent and the view was beautiful. We had a wonderful time and were made to feel special.
Everything was sensational. Emily was an incredible server and gave us awesome recommendations and service. We stopped by on a walk and got Crab Cakes, Lobster Dip, a few drinks and then some dessert. From out of the state but definitely will come back next time I’m in town.
Oh this place is so nice! I loved the lobster bisque. Wonderful drinks, too. Would love to come back.
One of my favorite stops whenever I’m in town! The happy hour here is fantastic—great deals on both meals and drinks. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are always friendly and eager to assist. I particularly enjoyed the wagyu skewers and steamed clams; both were flavorful and well-prepared. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a relaxed dining experience with top-notch service and delicious food.
Went to dinner with friends. I had the Alaskan Cod . Crabcakes as an appetizer. Everything was perfection. Definitely will recommend to all my friends and will be back again.
This was my first time eating here. I was pretty impressed. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, not overbearing if you wanted to take your time; you know those places where they almost make it uncomfortable to sit and enjoy a drink and company. Not here. Every table has a great water view. The lighting was good, room temperature was perfect. We had several seasonal drinks and they were delicious and balanced. The food was very good. I had the lobster pasta and my wife had a halibut dish. Both seasoned well and not too salty. We ate a scallop appetizer that was excellent. I would recommend any of these dishes. I also recommend the restaurant. The parking does suck though. They also run a little valet scam where they want to use them, instead of just letting people park in the lot. I generally don’t approve of this kind of scam on paying customers; there is other, slightly less convenient parking available though.
Nothing beats dining by the Puget Sound, eating delicious seafood, and having the most attentive and kind service. It's definitely worth it for your special occasions. I've coordinated work events via private dining also, and highly recommend. Event Coordinator Lindsay is great to work with and just in general their spaces are amazing, and the costs are easy to project.
The Lobster Shop is a huge improvement from what it was 25 years ago. The changes made over the years are impressive and very well done.
Will definitely make another reservation just for the warm atmosphere and view. There’s a large selection of wine. Appetizer and starters were delicious! Let me tell you the way my steak was cooked to perfection, I was full but didn’t want to put the fork down. I know I said i was full but I absolutely had to order dessert. Service was on point.
My father and I were driving to Gig Harbor and suddenly began craving lobster 🦞. Lobster Shop was able to satisfy our craving! And very well at that! The atmosphere of the restaurant is outstanding. The structure is big, wide and with many windows from where you can look at the beautiful Bay Area. Everything is clean and very well taken care of: from the bathrooms, to the reception counter, tables, and bar area. The service was awesome! 🤩 Our waiter was kind and very attentive and really made sure our meals came out as promptly as possible. The food is really good! 😊 I recommend the lobster bisque 🫕 (spectacular!!) and the crab 🦀 cakes to start. We also had the 5 oz lobster tails (the sweeter and less firm ones compared to the Australian lobster they offered) which were to die for (well seasoned and perfectly cooked) !!! I had the halibut 🐟 but was not really impressed (which is why I gave 4 ⭐️ for the food) because the rhubarb chutney was too overpowering and because the spring pea and mushroom risotto were not really complimenting the dish, the were very bland so overall even if the fish was good, it was not standing out. Disappointing. Overall my father and I really enjoyed the restaurant and will be going back! I advise anyone in the area to try it, and let me know if anything changes with the halibut dish, maybe I will try it again! 😉
After being closed for so long after Covid. I was worried they would never reopen. I was surprised to find they did, and I didn't hear about it. My daughter took me there for my birthday and we had a great time. The Maine lobster was fabulous! The service was fast and friendly, top-notch. The view was spectacular as always. The only disconcerting thing was the guy with a tablet that came by occasionally and looked like he was observing us and making notes. It would have been nice if his presence was explained.
The food was great, the lobster roll didn't have as much lobster as you would expect but it was delicious.
Dined here with my boyfriend this past Friday for date night; it was absolutely delicious! My boyfriend ordered the Connecticut lobster roll and it was gone within minutes. I ordered the rockfish as it was recommended by our server, and it did not disappoint! Our server, Sean, was phenomenal! Quick, efficient, and knew exactly when we needed him. You can’t beat the views of this place either, will definitely be coming back soon.
We celebrated a wedding reception here in a waterfront view room & it was beautiful! The service was fabulous, the food was absolutely divine & bursting with flavor. I had the clam chowder which was full of clams - absolutely divine, the filet mignon (cooked to perfection) & a lobster tail that was equally cooked perfectly & was fabulous. The wait staff was friendly, so attentive & the views just couldn’t be beat. We had a great experience & highly recommend paying the Lobster Shop a visit! Thank you for making the wedding celebration memorable!
Our party of 4 came to celebrate 2 birthdays and to use a coupon special. The food was outstanding all around, and the service was friendly and attentive (thank you especially, Leah!) and so accommodating to special requests. We all left feeling seen, appreciated and completely satiated. In other words, a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion. We'll be back, for sure!!!
Food was excellent. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. Lamb shank and lobster dip were a bit salty (therefore 4 stars), but we still enjoyed. Service was top notch and ambiance was warm, inviting and condusive to conversation. We and our guests had a wonderful meal.
This restaurant has been around for a long time on the Tacoma Waterfront and we finally made it in for dinner. I was very satisfied with the filet and lobster tail combo but my wife's lobster risotto was not that great. The ambience was fantastic and the server was terrific! We would definitely come back but will stick to the basics of surf & turf. This was a great place to celebrate our anniversary. They knew it was our anniversary and went out of their way to acknowledge that. Great place overall, just stay away from the lobster risotto (this may just be us) but all the other food was made to perfection! Bon appetit :)
Our waiter Sean was amazing. Food and drinks were excellent! Especially for a busy night like Valentine Day, but the service and everything else was top notch!
Lunch was great. Their lunch combos are awesome - $26 for sandwich and soup. We had the Connecticut lobster roll and lobster bisque + the Connecticut lobster roll and clam chowder with a side of shoe string fries. The sandwiches were loaded with lobster and both soups were amazing and flavorful. Cameron our waiter was great. He was personable, professional and attentive.
Full!!
The food was excellent, for a classic start highly recommend the Cesar salad. Filet mignon was well portioned and the sides that came with it were very good. The best part of the restaurant was the service, highly recommend requesting Cassie. She is wonderful, attentive and will take great care of you. Made it a very welcoming comfortable service. Thank you again Cassie.
Lobster Shop continues to impress with every visit. The food alone is worth five stars — the well‑seasoned herb shoestring fries are addictive, the Connecticut lobster roll is downright incredible, and the spicy shrimp and lobster bisque are rich, flavorful, and comforting. Even beyond the seafood, the wagyu burger, French onion soup, and French dip are all standouts. It’s rare to find a place where everything on the menu hits this level of quality. And don’t get me started on the view. But what truly sets Lobster Shop apart is the service, especially from Leah. She is, without question, the heart of this place. She remembered me from a year ago, recognized me in a grocery store, and even told me about their amazing buy‑two‑get‑two‑free deal. That kind of genuine kindness and customer care is almost unheard of. She is warm, thoughtful, and delivers the best service I’ve ever received anywhere. Malia is also a sweetheart and the rest of the staff is always so friendly and wonderful. We’ve already been back twice since, and we’ll keep coming back. Incredible food, unforgettable service, and a team that makes you feel like family. Highly recommend.
Came here for a special night out with family. To start, the setting, atmosphere and interior are top notch. It is cozy but also elegant inside. It's especially great if you get a table on the window. We ordered drinks, appetizers and soups. The drinks, cocktails, beer.. including a mocktail we ordered were great. The mocktail was blackberry fizz. The soups and appetizers were delicious and rich. If you order too much before your meal, the richness night spoil the main course. Can recommend the lobster bisque and French onion. The house salad was well prepared too. For the appetizer, we shared the lobster dip with bread. The unfortunate low point of the visit involved the main course. We all were motivated to order the special, crab stuffed petrale sole. The dishes took quite a long time. We finished all our appetizers, soups and drinks with another 15 minutes to spare before the food came. When the main course arrived, the vegetable succotash was perfect but the fish and crab were very underseasoned. This was the same for all 3 of the fishes we ordered. The fish and crab were to my confusion, quite bland. I'll likely be back to try more. In all, I do believe if you're in the area, the Lobster Shop is worth visiting.
Nice view. My steak was undercooked as was my Lobster tail. Ordered Medium. Same for another dinner with us. We didn’t care too much for the oysters however the crab cakes were very good. Drinks were also very good. One thing I would suggest is remove tough skin off broccoli as it was tough to eat. We went off the reviews and pictures and were a little disappointed.
We made reservations for a Friday night at 7 p.m. (6/20). We walked in, and the hostess was extremely rude and had a major attitude. She didn't seem like or sounded like she enjoyed her job at all. Not a great first impression for first-timers. Anyway, everything else was great! The food was fresh, but our lobster and halibut were slightly overcooked (not a huge deal). Not everyone was rude! Our waiter was very attentive and nice. Oysters were amazing, and cocktails were on point. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, though.
Very classy place, excellent food, excellent service. UPDATE August 31st 2025 my daughter's boyfriend took her and I for her birthday. I enjoyed my salmon which came with very tasty vegetables and I ordered a lobster tail to go with it. Did not like the butter they serve with the lobster. Their bread was delicious came with butter and a pesto sauce. My daughter ordered lobster dip to have with the bread which she loved. She didn't like some seasoning in her lobster bisque soup and she didn't like her lobster risotto. She got a free creme brulee becsuse it was her birthday. Her boyfriend lobster fettuccine was such a small portion and there wasn't much to it. The service was excellent .
Was pretty disappointed. Maybe it was a bad night. Service was slower than I would have expected. And for the price, the food was just average. Great presentation. Average taste. Lobster bisque and calamari were the best things there. The lobster was just okay. Would give them another chance but not anytime soon.
We went here for a work function and the service was soooooo slow. We got there at 7:30pm and finally got served our meals at 10:00pm. The food was ok, but nothing special. I had the Caesar salad with capers, which was very interesting. The capers were dried and way too salty. I love capers, but these were not very good, and there were a ton on the salad. It was very bland. I feel fresh capers would have been better on the salad. I also had the maple glazed halibut. It sounded way better then it was. It was dry, and there was no visible glaze on it. The drinks, however, were delicious. I highly recommend the Golden Hour. I do not think I will return again. It is way too expensive for what you actually get, and there are cheaper places that have way better food and faster service.
Views stunning, as you would expect looking at the water and Mount Rainer towering in the background. Food decent, service very good, atmosphere pleasant. All round good experience.
Originally from Washington and in town visiting friends, we made a Sunday evening reservation. Our one friend begged off as he feels the Lobster shop is overpriced and horrible service. We’ve eaten her several times over the years and always enjoyed it. The weather was excellent and we sat on the patio. After that it was disappointing. Waters sat empty. Sodas not refilled. A 3rd cocktail may have been ordered if asked or someone was present. Long delay from dishes being cleared and we had to ask about dessert. Another wait from dessert to getting the check. Very disappointing. No it was not crowded. We also heard another patron relaying a disappointing interaction with the bartender. And then to have to sign that check amount for the experience we had. Don’t know that we’ll be back.
I was here the day before Mother’s Day but was disappointed in this visit. Our server Scott was excellent but the food fell short. King crab leg was amazing! Scallops were okay. Clam chowder was good but the crab cakes tasted like they were going bad and the NY prime steak was overcooked. I emailed the restaurant directly to share my experience but no response to date, sadly. The first time I came here, everything was exceptional! Not sure what happened this time.
