Chalmers Austin Reviews
Great visit pre Texas game. Really neat place.
Born and raised down the street. Love this place. Great vibe, food and drinks. Always packed and everyone having a good time. Games games and games!!!!!
Best sports bar in Austin HANDS DOWN! Live DJ, stadium seating @ the big screen, amazing food, fast service, high volume!
Great new bar in East Austin! Have an awesome staff and drinks/food were amazing. Definitely recommend and will be back soon.
The manager is the amazing! Takes the time to tend to his customers ❤️ Drinks are taste amazing and so fresh!
Best frozen in town. Tried the shrimp poppers and they were so dang good. I will be there as long as the frozen martini is there.
Great spot to bring visitors - I've always had a great time here with the relaxed environment.
Loved every bit of this place! Since they’ve opened we already brought 2 friend groups from out of town and it was a huge hit. The frozen Mexican martini is to die for! We also had the nicest bartender, T. She put us at ease and answered all our questions. Even remembered us the second time we came. Highly recommend this spot!
Great sports bar with indoor/outdoor seating. Food truck in back.
Chalmers is an awesome bar to watch games at. They had a giant projector up in a tent for March Madness. It was packed but still lots of room and not hard to maneuver.
We did not eat. However, the atmosphere, service, staff, and drinks were all wonderful. I will be back to try the food. It smelled delicious.
This place is art. Easy to order. Cute vibes. Delish drinks. Awesome staff. Delish food (food ordered through qr code and you get a notification when ready). Try the steak fingers and the cactus shooter. Yum yum. Also keep in mind this is a BAR for adults. Parents should definitely consider the time of day before bringing the lil ones along. They may or may not be allowed depending on the time of day. Side note, parking lot parking on the east side is limited but theres lots of street parking close by.
The Bartenders rock! Great spot for watching sports but also you can just chill. Most comfortable outdoor patio dt imo.
Was not expecting to like this place but it is so solid ! Well-designed space that’s awesome for groups. The staff are great. So glad they got Discada.
The frozen mex martini is such a good idea for the summer ! Plus the mojitos on tap are always 10/10 Also the Dj on fri/sat stays playing bangers !
All the staff were brilliant and the beef cheek tacos were next level
My favorite sports bar to watch any type of sporting event by far. Bartenders are all great no complaints from me.
The drinks were cold and tasty, and the ambience is laid back. Bartender was so sweet, giving each patron a large garbage bag to protect against the storm. Bonus points for that! to Plenty of indoor seating and tons outdoors also. The aroma inside this place is amazing!! (I learned they use Aroma360- and it smells amazing.)
One of our favorite spots in Austin! Highly recommend the gin Aperol spritz and the brisket sandwich with macaroni and cheese. We will be back!
Came for Discada tacos and really enjoyed the space. Huge and great seating and shade. Really cool venue. I’m not a sports person but I could see coming to an event here. Keeping an eye out! 👀
Much like chivalry, customer service seemed dead—until I encountered your general manager, Cameron, last evening at Chalmers. My girlfriends and I reached out to Chalmers via Instagram DMs to ask if they would be streaming the LSU game, and they told us they would be. However, upon arriving, we realized this was not true. My friend Caroline went to ask if there was any way they could turn it on one of the TVs. Cameron delivered, but he didn’t stop there. After we settled into our seats to watch the game, Cameron came over to apologize again for the miscommunication and brought us a free round of drinks. That prompted me to tell Cameron I would be writing him a stellar Yelp review. Throughout the evening, he returned to our table to chat and pick up our empty cups. At one point, I asked him if he had a piece of gum, and he ran to the back to deliver not one, but two pieces! Cameron is an outstanding example of how customer service can retain customers and leave a lasting impact. He went above and beyond what was necessary and was a pleasure to be around. I liked Chalmers before, but now I LOVE Chalmers, and you have Cameron to thank for that! I’ll be singing Cameron’s praises indefinitely.
Great vibe and safe! The crowd is diverse which is rad. The BBQ is freaking great and I craved it so much we had to go back just for the food! It's pup friendly and really parking is manageable. Just like Armadillo Den we will definitely add this spot to our regular list 🤩
Tyler is OUR KING! So personable, kind, and attentive. Thank you for making our first experience at chalmers so iconic!
What a spot to hit up in Austin - must visit for anyone wanting good vibes and good music. Great number of TVs to watch all the sports you need. Bar staff are great people. One of the best bars in Austin - get around it!
Awesome spot for watching games. The burgers are great and I’ve never had to wait longer than 15 minutes. The drink system of ordering on the app, but then having to go get your drink from the bar and provide a recommended tip seems a bit odd to me. There is tons of seating and the draft cocktails are delicious.
The music is so dope. I'm here because of the tunes. Thank God they don't play the sports sounds. This is a music bar!! Why even show the sports, when you have such great tunes. They should just get rid of the TVs altogether so we can vibe even more
This place is amazing!!! While having Sunday brunch with friends, a random crazy storm blew in and the entire staff flew into action. Some taking down umbrellas others helping people inside. (The patio has a great cover but this was windy sideways rain!) Once inside, the bar manager opened multiple bags of clean bar towels and passed them out to everyone. It was service like no other. Onto the usual aspects, the staff is obviously awesome, but the drinks have been spectacular, the espresso martini on tap, the frozen dirty Shirley (a frozen cherry limeade with vodka) were delicious! We had chips and dips/queso, the “whipped guacamole” was a delightful surprise and the patty melt was top notch! This is absolutely one of my new regular spots!
Armadillo Den has done it again!! Owners continue to open great spots. Chalmers is a fantastic bar with a great selection of house drinks. Sadly didn’t get to try the food as I ate before, but will soon surely try. Plenty of places to hangout, inside and outside. Outside has 8 TVs that are viewable all over the patio. One of the only true bars this close to the 35.
Great outdoor seating. The AC in house was full blast with fans to help cool you down. The food was damn good and my two daughters loved the music and openness. Great spot for the fam to spend lunch at
This place was legit!!! We had a great time hanging out at the fire pits, having a drink, watching the Olympics and making memories with friends. The margarita and bourbon lemonade on tap were fantastic. The food truck had just one type of street taco that was amazing and their elote was also spot on. Would highly recommend this place for a casual, low key night in Austin or a place to go before you head to the craziness of 6th street! These guys set this place up right!
Great time with friends! Drinks were great & fairly priced. Atmosphere was laid back & fun. Cool indoor & outdoor space.
Really cool spot with a huge open backyard — lots of tables, chairs, and even some TVs set up so you can catch a game while you hang out. One thing I really liked is how easy it is to order: just scan the QR code from wherever you’re sitting and your order goes through without having to flag anyone down. The bartenders were on point and super quick with the drinks. I also grabbed some tacos from Discada, the food truck they have on-site — so good. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a chill hangout spot with solid vibes and great tacos.
Phillips Protective has done special event security at Chalmers since early 2025. The atmosphere is fun, casual, and accommodating. Patrons are always friendly and the staff truly cares about the safety and satisfaction of their guests. Highly recommended for group outings!
New favorite sports bar in Austin. Imagine Rustic Tap meets Dainty Dillo, this place is huge with so many TVs that there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Front room is the old gas pumps, then the old service garage is the bar, and the backyard is just massive with a ton of tables, fireplaces, and TVs.
Such a great spot for good food and gatherings! Lots of space indoors and outdoors to spread out and hang with friends, dog friendly patio, and TVs for sports fans. I was surprised that even on a very hot day, the outside patio felt great due to good coverage and lots of fans. Fry bread tacos were excellent, and the Mexican arancini balls were especially delicious! Excited to see this place grow as the next phases take place :)

This place has amazing food EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!!! The bar tender and staff were nice and this place has really good drinks!!!! I would highly recommend this place!!!!!!
Chalmers is everything you want in a sports bar and then some. The vibe hits the sweet spot—energetic for big games without being chaotic, with plenty of screens, clear audio, and sightlines so you never miss a play. The menu nails the game-day essentials (the wings and burgers are legit), and the bar delivers strong, consistent pours with a solid mix of local beers and classic cocktails. Shoutout to manager Nick, who sets the tone for the whole place. He’s visible, welcoming, and dialed in—checking on tables, remembering regulars, and making sure groups get settled quickly even on packed nights. You can feel the difference in the service: the staff is friendly, fast, and attentive without hovering, and the food and drinks land at the table just when you want them. Whether you’re rolling in for a playoff run, a college rivalry, or just a casual weeknight, Chalmers makes it easy to relax, cheer, and eat well. Consistently great atmosphere, consistently great service. Five stars.
Always a good time at Chalmers. The vibe is great, especially now that it’s getting colder and the fire pits make it really cozy. Joseph, the doorman, is always chill and in a good mood, which just adds to the experience. Definitely a spot I enjoy coming back to.
Good place to get a drink with some friends and watch a game. Bar staff were excellent. They have a taco truck and a BBQ joint, unfortunately the bbq joint was closed on the day me and some friends went to watch the World Series, so we ate at the taco truck (which was slightly over priced in my opinion).
Really cool sports bar, incredibly cheap happy hour specials, and some of the best tacos you'll ever have at Discada. Plus they actually have a parking lot, a rarity in this part of town.
Super fun place to watch sport's games on television. Very large place with tons of TVs and seating. Food is really good. Bartenders are friendly as are the crowd of patrons. Can't wait to go back!
Their chopped brisket was soo good! Love how much room there is here. Excellent place for watching the game. Loads of outdoor space. Great place for hangin with friends Not what I would call a calm place to chill, it may have only been so busy for the game though
I’ve lived in Austin 10 years and seen several bars come and go. I can say that Chalmers is more than just a bar - it’s an homage to what makes Austin so amazing. The staff (Tyler, Sean, Nigel, Ana) are what make this place so great. The owner is a very genuine guy as well, always focused on the customer. This place checks every box, atmosphere, great food, top shelf staff.

OK sports bar, dogs walking, sitting, eating everywhere inside. I like dogs, but not so many and right in with food service. Wait staff should wash hands after petting dogs. Just not for me.
Great local sports bar with really nice service staff. It gets packed but always a lively crowd so go early if possible to scope out a spot. Limited parking mainly on street or Uber there. Two great patio area rear patio has jumbo and smaller screens.
We had mixed feelings on the food we ordered. We liked our drinks though! It's a cool spot, but we basically got kicked out at 6pm because my friends had brought their 2 month old baby with them.
Drinks are very good(Mexican Martini Frozen Margaritas were fire), Got the fry bread tacos and they were too chewy with a lil bit of meat and mostly veggies. Great atmosphere overall though!
Love this place after work, lots of good food options and classic Austin drinks. Nigel completely ruins my experience every time, rude and completely ignored me and took 3 orders before me before I went to someone else.
We all had different items, tiny tacos and bbq. The food was good but not outstanding. I would try again since they were out of ribs that evening.
Great place to chill when its not too busy. If you go to watch the Horns its wall to wall packed. We go for the Discada tacos, best in Austin hands down!
Really nice sports bar to watch a game. Lots of seating and TVs. Parking is plenty on nearby streets. Decent beer selection. The only thing I did not like much was the loud music inside.
Chalmers is that rare unicorn of a bar that hits every note. You walk in and it’s like Austin gave you a bear hug and handed you a beer. There’s seating for days, inside, outside, under string lights, next to dudes yelling about fantasy football trades. The drink selection? Legit. Cold beers, cocktails that don’t taste like regret, and a bar staff that actually remembers your name after one visit. There’s a food truck outside serving tacos that are mini in size but gargantuan in flavor. Like, flavor so big it should have its own zip code. Whether you’re posted up watching the game with the boys or trying to look effortlessly cool on a date, Chalmers delivers. Pro tip: Bring stretchy pants.
Stopped in here for lunch the other day. Need to come back in the evening for the full experience because I can imagine this place being a fun scene. This place is MASSIVE. I think they said it sits on two acres with space still being developed for use. The sandwich I got was pretty good. Fries were ok. I would come back again for some beers.
Update: taco fry bread was not this salty. Rice balls were good. Drinks good per usual! Saltyyyyy steak fry bread that was very disappointing (my husband likes salty things and even this was way too much), frozen dirty shirley was good and would get again, the zombie has is mezcal which I didn’t love (wasted it). Lots of outdoors TVs and a small inside space with AC. Pretty loud inside despite not seating a ton of people. Cool spot and hope to see some improvements as the location is great!
Came for the vibes, stayed for the drinks. I really enjoyed their frozen dirty Shirley, strong and flavorful! My bf got the frozen martini which was also good. I liked that you can order from your table via QR code and pickup on the side of the bar when ready vs standing in a line. The star of the show was the bacon wrapped shrimp, we almost ordered another! Didn’t get a picture because we were starving but definitely recommend.

The food was excellent and priced fairly well. The service was beyond excellent! The person who took my order was amiable, efficient, and courteous. And, the bus people kept my table free of clutter. If I were a younger man (68), this place would be perfect for me to meet new and vibrant people. But now that I'm at a certain age, I lead a more sedate lifestyle.

Apparently beers are 5 dollars, Espilon is 8, and mysteriously kettle and soda is 15. Or the bartenders are pocketing cash overcharges. And take some ear plugs for football games, the announcers are so loud you can barely hear yourself think.
Every time we go to this bar, we are ripped off when it comes to knowing what our tab is. They do not disclose that there is a tip added when you are closing your tab u til you get your receipt. They are double tipping and the bar tenders aren’t even friendly. Fix this.
Outdoor space is great until they thought it was a good idea putting a bbq smoker NEXT to where patrons sit.
Rollin Smoke is amazing! The bar vibe is cool! The smell on the inside is overpowering perfume that ruins the experience when it’s hot! I think fall will be much better! Will keep coming for BBQ but they need to kill the perfume.
I've been twice (one when it was rammed during March madness and onece when it was super quiet during the week). It's a fantastic space with loads of TVs, plenty of seats, great food options (reviewed separately) and despite what others said decent music at a normal volume / commentary on during games. The major issue is that all of the staff have a horrible, horrible attitude and can barely be bothered to utter a word or greeting or thanks. I can't remember the last time I didn't tip a bartender. I really hope the sort it out because there's so much going for it
I love this place so much. One of the best atmospheres in the city to watch sports except for one horrible aspect. 99% of people who come here are wanting to watch sports. Why then, do they 1) absolutely REFUSE to play sports audio 2) play the music volume so loud, you get hearing damage?? The speakers are at every table 5 feet from the customers’ faces. How many reviews do people have to write mentioning the asinine level of volume?? If the owner listened to the dozens and dozens of reviews mentioning these two points, I think it would be the best sports bar in town.
So, this place is a good sports bar, with tons of space outside and lots of tvs. That's the good part. We went for an NFL Sunday and the major downside is just the sound. We sat outside on the back to watch games and they had extremely loud country music playing outside. At the very least, play game sound, if you are a sports bar. Not the right atmosphere.
If your looking for a place to drink and be social this is the spot. Drinks aren't bad its the perfect spot for younger crowd. You order from an app or qr code. You pick up your own drinks and food at either the side bar or outside window. No real communication with an actual person for food or drinks. We stopped in for a drink and to try out whatever food they had. I had the mojito it was a decent drink. The wings were good the BLT was alright it would have been better with decent lettuce. The fries were like wack arnold fries aka mac donalds. Crinkle cut fries would be my choice of fries there was way to many on my plate which just went to waste. The burger is just like wack Arnold's quarter pounder. Not our kind of burger we like veggies on ours. So if you want to just drink and be social and are ok with mediocre food and no actual food or drinks service in person then this spot is for you. I prefer to communicate with a server or bar tender but thats my choice.

Typical Austin outdoor bar/icehouse. $10 beers and $15 paper cup freezies. Fine, but price/value makes it a no repeat for me.
The music they play is so bad. I want to give this place an honest chance but the music is so bad that I’m not able to get into the moment or enjoy my experience. I’m not being dramatic, it’s that bad. It’s 12 noon and it’s so loud, it becomes distracting. The place has so much atmosphere, but it’s a bummer about the music. It takes away from the beauty and natural ambiance of the establishment. It seems like the overall vibes of the place are leaning into the Austin style. I strongly consider they play something easier to digest that isn’t just 2014 top 40 hit BS. I’d recommend outlaw country or any local/texas stuff. instrumental, or ambient music at least. Even no music would be better and more relaxing. If I wanted to dissociate to 2014 hits by the Chainsmokers ft. Halsey remix I’d go to Forever 21. Bottom line, the music makes me not want to come back, and it ruins the entire experience. I can easily go anywhere else and not have to deal with it. It’s unfortunate, but it could be such an easy fix and such a drastic improvement if they played anything else. I’d give the atmosphere 1 star solely based on the music hindering everything else but I had to give it 2 to give credit to the beautiful outdoor area. To be honest tho, I’m ashamed to be here at the moment. And this sense of shame breathes new life when each silly song comes on. I came here hungry, and myself losing my appetite, so instead I came here to write this. The music, it’s that bad.
Went with a group of friends on a weekday around 8 pm so it wasn’t too busy. The only way to order is with a QR code and pick up at the designated pick up spot, which is fine unless you have dietary restrictions - the app they use isn’t really great for that. The vibes were not great. Inside was really loud so we opted to sit outside, also very loud. We had a really hard time hearing each other over the music, which was pretty much just contemporary country. The food was mid, my friend called it slightly elevated Dairy Queen and she wasn’t wrong. Drinks were fine but on the expensive side for a neighborhood bar type of place. I guess that’s what they’re trying to go for? Not really sure, but I am sure I’m not planning to go back.
A good rendezvous point if you need an easy place to meet on east side. But pretty heavy duty bar food got heart burn which doesn’t happen much and didn’t feel very great after leaving. Drink selection seemed pretty generic, but I didn’t check out the mixed drinks. Everything is pretty much self service through app (pick up own drinks at bar food at window, etc). TVs with sports; and pretty loud inside. Not anything to write home about and not unique enough to be east side.
The atmosphere and food are great but the bar program is severely lacking. I asked for a skinny Lalo marg which they poured from a draft pre mixed tap tasted like sweet bs. I don’t understand how they have great food options and poor drink options.
I came in with 2 other friends this past Saturday night for the first time. The people at the bar weren’t very friendly with explaining how to order. The water situation is miserable, The amount of times I had to get up to get more water for the table was ridiculous, considering they seemed to have many staff members just standing around. The food was mid, they skimped out on the amount of chips on the, somewhat pricy, chilie con queso. The order of fries were good but the side of ranch came with a hair in it. While the jalapeño poppers did have good flavor, we all agreed that the bacon in the middle was coming out pretty raw and chewy.. The music was also pretty loud, I am young and no stranger to loud music, but it was practically impossible to have a conversation inside or out. I live in the neighborhood and I don’t think I will be coming back. Sad that this is new Austin..
The music was absurdly loud on Saturday afternoon, I couldn’t hear anything anyone was saying. I also had the worst chilton of my life, it tasted like drinking lemon juice concentrate straight from the bottle. At least squeeze fresh citrues if you’re going to serve a chilton. It was undrinkable, pretty disappointing for a $13 cocktail. It’s a great space and looks like a fun spot to watch a game but the drinks need some work and the music doesn’t need to be deafening.
They try so hard to be an "Austin Original" it's a mockery. This heavily gentrified UT sports bro bar is about as authentically Austin as Taco Bell is Mexican. What a disaster. While their outdoor space is at least a refreshing place to pound white claws with everyone under 21 (Good catch there door guy), all their "artisanal" cocktails come batched from a tap. The bartender literally opened a faucet, filled my glass, then stared me down for a 30% default tip. Stop it. You get a star for being dog friendly. That's a plus. The food is trying way too hard to be interesting but they miss completely. The "Crack Wings" are just frozen, deep fried wings, dry tossed in Tajin (Chili lime salt). They're so bitterly salty we couldn't eat them. Like what are you doing? Whatever Californian told you to toss wings in Tajin needs to leave. Seriously. If you don't understand what it's for, don't use it. I will not be returning. I'd highly suggest you don't either. Go somewhere actually local and support the places that corporate trend companies like Chalmer's force out.
if you read other reviews about feeling weird complaining of how bad the music is, they are accurate. not only possibly the worst music you will hear in a bar but somehow they are missing the concept that at a sports bar... in the nba/nhl playoffs... that the people that are watching the games, would like to listen to the games. so you have these large-ish speakers attached to each tv blaring imagine dragons and chainsmokers instead. bartenders slightly less detached and disassociated last time i went and they have a discada food truck which brings the food experience to 4 stars but please. for the love of austin. fix the music and sound experience.
Got yelled at by their rude bartender for trying to close my tab. Sorry I don’t want to take the chance y’all double your tips on walked tabs like other reviews say. There are plenty of places to get overpriced drinks in this city, don’t spend your money here.
Nothing online claiming it’s 21+. Walked up to an empty restaurant at 1 on a Sunday and got turned around. Typically a sports bar on a Sunday afternoon is open to all. But guess not.
Way too loud and obnoxious. My friends and I stopped going bc we don’t like our ears bleeding. Too loud for conversation. Too loud for sports.
Our experience: Staff was rude at first, watched us sit out in cold and not let us in 5 mns before they opened -- great hospitality huh? BBQ place was underwhelming. Not planning on coming back.
Came to hang out and have our friends meet our 5 month old baby. We got turned away at the door because kids weren’t allowed. He’s a baby stuck in his car seat. Won’t be coming back.
They don't accept kids in the weekend. The place was empty and we just wanted to pick up BBQ
Bar sold me two exact drink for the same price. Except one was a 12oz a the a 16oz and refused to discuss it.
Food: Overpriced sports bar food that markets itself to be better than normal. It's not. Service. We walked in. Everyone who worked there were on their phones or just talking to each other. No one greeted us. We tried to find a table that was quiet. There are speakers pointed at every single table. The bass is too heavy. You scan the Union QR to order. No one approaches you. No one offers water. There is no service. Once we got our food a dude randomly walked by our table and said How's the food? I looked confused because I didn't know if he was an employee or not. He saw that and then wandered off. No one ever approached us. Said hi. Never said thank you for coming in. We ordered, paid, and picked up our own food. Food and Ordering: once you order in app, you get a text when your food is ready and you go get it. Yep. See "No Service" continued. The queso tasted like it came from a jar. The tacos were meh. Didn't even bother taking the leftover untouched taco home. I've seen. I've been. It's not for me. Terrible customer experience.
people live close & y’all don’t have consideration for the people who works night shifts, when I moved to here it was a quiet place and it is not possible that y’all do not let people sleep because y’all have the volume super loud not only that the people who go to the event come and park in the apartments and take away the place from those who do live here. & I don’t let my kids to go out no more & play & peace because people are drunk driving like crazy !
This is the best place in Austin to watch sports. There are 4 stalls for the men's room for a thousand people. Unacceptable and totally ruins the vibe.
Bouncers left visitors outside in 100 degree packed like sardines for over an hour with zero progress. Multiple people in line passed out and the bouncers did nothing. Waited for 1.5 hours and made zero progress and left. Do not waste your time here. Overpriced and terrible service.
I had been excited to check out this place as we live very close. We went at 4:55pm with our kid to meet some friends for HH. The first thing the door guy said is “you need to leave in 1 hour”. It’s a “neighborhood” place that hates children. I understand not everyone wants a family friendly place, but when we went there there were multiple families who were there. It was pretty empty so I thought they’d want the business. As we were having drinks with our group of friends multiple staff members kept coming by to remind us to leave soon. We were basically walked out at 5:59pm. I’ve never been treated so rudely. I’ve lived in this neighbors for 14 years and love to support local businesses. This place is an overpriced concept that does not want locals with families to visit. Once football season is over I don’t see how their business model is sustainable. I encourage you to not give this place your time or money. Good luck to your overpriced drinks and rude staff.
On December 23, 2025 I walked into this establishment hoping to purchase ribs from Rollin Smoke BBQ, as I rang the bell for service, I was greeted by unfriendly, unhelpful, unprofessional and rude staff employee at Chalmers , he stated they were closed and open on Tuesdays, then he made a comment; stating I could go down the street for tacos. I questioned why would I go down the street for tacos, when I was there to buy BBQ., he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I’ve been here multiple times, but today’s experience was very different. I ordered an Aperol Spritz from the happy hour menu and paid, but when I looked at the receipt I realized the bartender had charged me the full price. When I asked him about it, he said he thought I meant their Paloma Aperol Spritz, which isn’t included in the happy hour menu. I didn’t appreciate being charged for a different drink based on that assumption, especially since I clearly said I wanted the Aperol Spritz and not the Paloma version. On top of that, the bartender wasn’t particularly friendly from the start, which made the interaction even more frustrating.
