Akaru Sushi Brooklyn Reviews
Was in the area today and wanted to try them out. I walked in the place was empty but they were busy preparing orders which means they rely mostly on delivery and takeout. I ordered sushi rolls takeout and was very surprised how well they made they are. Delicious, great portion, very tasty and they weren’t heavy on the rice at all. I think this place is great, and recommend others to give it a try.
I just moved to Ridgewood and like to walk the five avenue blocks to Akaru on Sunday evenings for sushi and sake. I get to sit by the window and watch the goings-on on Wyckoff. The food is good as is the sake. They also have good lunch specials.
Went to visit my friend in the area, since I didn't eat anything and she had brunch already. My friend recommended this place to me. We order via phone to pickup the order ourselves. Eating in is a luxury nowadays. Chicken teriyaki is very tender since I pickup in a timely manner, California roll is very fresh. Also order a side of shumai for my friend since she was craving for it. Everything is so fresh and tasty. Would definitely order from them again when I'm back visiting her in the area.
This restaurant offers excellent service and tasty Japanese dishes. An absolutely amazing, quick, All a carte sushi experience amazing quality fish and rice! I highly recommend this restaurant.
I order from here all the time and it’s always great. Sushi is good they make fairly large rolls. Their other dishes are great as well such as the Katsu or chicken teriyaki. I have never been inside but delivery is always quick. Fish quality is good but nothing spectacular, this is a spot when you want good food for a good price.
I haven't tried a lot of sushi places but I liked the food from here. So far, everything was satisfying. I went to eat in during the summer and it really is not that cool in there except for some fans but it wasn't enough. They have a bathroom you can use, it's clean. It's a medium size place. The waiting staff is ok.
I ordered takeout from here tonight. While the sushi isn't top-tier, it's decent and budget-friendly. I kept it simple with an eel avocado roll, which was alright. However, the Phoenix roll fell flat--it lacked flavor/sauce.
Akaru is one of my favorite Japanese spots. Always fast, always great food at a good price. However, the customer service is not great. Don’t expect a smiling face from the individual behind the register, and they may take out their frustration on you. But the sushi and lunch boxes are amazing! 10/10 recommend their food.
I ordered the dinner box with chicken katsu. Unfortunately, it was too dry, and it seemed like the dish was put together from several small pieces rather than one proper cut, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, the experience was okay, but if there are better options available, I would probably think twice before visiting again.
Let me tell ya’ll how disgusting and unprofessional their delivery driver was, i ordered a 20$ meal for my niece and when i opened the door to the delivery driver the first thing he said with an attitude was “where’s my money?” Confused i genuinely thought he was talking about the food getting paid and explained i had paid through the app. After a couple of times i understood he was talking above the tip, his attitude from the beginning was disgusting and kept pressuring me for a tip. I asked for my food various times but he denied to hand it over asking “how much are you going to give me?” While his foot held my door, i genuinely felt for my safety. It took about 5-6 min for him to hand my food over and to leave. I called the restaurant and all they had to say was “we’ll talk to him”… over all food is decent but i absolutely don’t recommend ordering a delivery.
Food was good and was at my door in less than 15 min. Only thing is they deliver the food themselves the delivery driver was lingering at my door asking for more tip money and wouldnt leave, i had to just go inside and close the door, he got his phone to translate as if I didn't understand that he was asking for a tip (orderee online and everything was already paid for). It sucks bc the foods good but I won't be ordering from here again I don't trust them not to tamper with food if they're asking for tip money and not happy with what they got
I rarely leave reviews but this needs to be said so people don’t fall for the 5 star rating on seamless. I don’t know who’s rating this place a 5, but it was garbage. The fish actually tasted dirty and I had to spit out two pieces. The rice felt and tasted like it was 2 days old. The person I ordered with agreed. It was some of the worst sushi I have ever tasted.
