al di la Trattoria Brooklyn Reviews
great spot for having an enjoyable Italian dinner. the staff was friendly all the time, we didn't have to wait a long time for the food to arrive and, most importantly, it tasted great. I was surprised by the ravioli with corn and the pear cake with chocolate! after leaving I saw it had a bunch of awards and Michelin guide recommendations, so definitely check it out if you're in the area.
For sure the best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. Truly Italian, so that is a relief. As, Italian-Americans murdered the Italian cuisine, finding restaurants that make authentic Italian food is always nice. More than that, this place excels. The waitress on the second dining room was a little unfriendly, but I moved to the main room and the other waitress was more friendly, although not too much. Therefore, service was only ok (not matching the quality of food, however).
I dined here with my wife for her birthday and we had a terrific meal. I had the paccheri as a primi and the whole sea bream as a secondi, it was a perfect combo. It’s a bustling dining room and you’re in tight if the restaurant is full. We enjoy that kind of atmosphere. I really appreciate their wine service. I like that they pour glasses at the table from the bottle directly as opposed to bringing you pre-filled glasses, I find that classy and more personal.
There is a bit more demand in the room than there are staff to meet it but we had a lovely time overall
Great food. Not pretentious atmosphere friendly. Very comfortable
Robust, authentic and delicious Italian dining in a charming venue. The Tuscan-style tripe starter and the marvelously rich rabbit stew were particular highlights. Fantastic pear and chocolate cake dessert, too. Highly recommended.
Came here for the first time for an anniversary dinner. Overall we had a really nice time however with it being a somewhat small restaurant and it being busy we did sometimes have difficulty hearing each other talk. The food was very well made. Great quality pasta. My only negative comment about the food is that I wish the bread that came with the mussels were on the side, not soaking in the juices.
Food was good their specials are short. The menu isn't too friendly I wanted to get like 4 course meal so I wanted to start with a Pasta dish I don't like to get big portions especially pasta then a salad and then a main course followed with a desert. But I was told they don't make half portion pastas so I was forced to order a full portion the dishes are executed perfectly atmosphere was cold. Menu is the same through out the year. I would like to see the menu change for a change.i cannot say anything bad but the place Steak gets to dry too quickly one item that was drenched in balsamic glaze.
The food here is absolutely delicious. I love to try different dishes specially if not on the menu. I can't even pick a favorite because the food is sooo good.
We’ve lived in Park Slope for over 3 years and somehow have overlooked this absolute gem of a restaurant. In a sea of mediocre Italian spots, A Di La is a head above the rest. The menu is incredibly well priced (both wine and food) and the quality is fantastic. But the best part? The service. Clearly a wonderful team who knows what they’re doing. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in on us in just the right amount. We’ve found our new go-to and couldn’t be more excited.
Great local spot with awesome food and a great staff/service. Their commitment to Northern Italian classics and creative specials, coupled with the cozy vibes, makes this restaurant one I’ll definitely revisit. Everything was amazing but the oxtail and cuttlefish polenta and the octopus spaghetti stole the show.
The food at this place was incredible. Truly some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a long time. Do yourself a favor and order the Squash Tortelli. You won’t regret it!
We have been going here for years and it is the closest thing to authentic northern Italian food we have had in New York City. Everything is always fresh and amazing. We always get the spaghetti neri, paccheri pasta, and the saltimbocca alla romana. We have been enjoying takeout (and their coffee shop) always get cannot wait for indoor dining to be back for the proper experience so we can snack on their delicious bread and butter again too (photo from 2019).
I have been obsessed with their bakery goods since they opened a pickup coffee shop. Every time they have different kinds of cakes and it is difficult to choose one bc they look so good. Besides the baked goods, their customer service is fantastic. Even it is just a moment to get a coffee and a bakery but I always feel comfortable with the staff. I might be wrong but I could not find to get a coffee from la Colombe in Park Slope so Al so la is the one they serve it!
Tagliatelle Bolognese are a good benchmark for a pasta restaurant, because they can’t handle mediocrity. If the ragu hasn’t simmered long enough or if it’s not rich enough, it will instantly taste like any bland industrial tomato sauce. Al di la’s Bolognese is some of the best I’ve had, in fact it’s my favorite in NYC (along with the one from Emporio). The pasta is always perfectly al dente, the sauce is rich and buttery, thick and doesn’t taste too much like tomato, simply excellent 👌 Their cavatelli are less impressive, but still good.
Amazing quality food. Super delicious. Really well made. Just don’t like the guy trying to upsell on the poached eggs without saying how much of an upcharge it is.
Great food, great service and good vibes all around. We got the fave purée, stracciatella, radicchio salad, duck pappardelle. It was all good nothing missed we were so stuffed by the time our entrees arrived, rabbit and roast chicken, we could barely eat them, but we preserved! The meat was perfectly cooked, it literally melts in your mouth. The polenta was creamy and delicious, and the fennel salad was the perfect amount of crunch, herbaceous and acid to cut through all the richness. I’m still craving it a day later. I will absolutely be back soon. Highly highly recommend!
Our most favorite restaurant during our month stay in Brooklyn. Every dish was delicious, service was amazing and atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. The best pork chop I ever had!
I love their pasta. This restaurant always serves delicious food - mussels, pastas, breads. Plus, the old roof and muted lighting gives it a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
The ambiance is beautiful. The place does seem to echo so it makes the restaurant very loud. But it’s cozy. As for the food it’s Devine!!!! Started off with the mussels my only complaint with that it was a little salty but it was still delicious with every bit and it was devoured in mins. My friend and I shared the rabbit entree with the polenta ..... ughhhh wish I could eat that every day & we also shared the black spaghetti with the squid it was yummmyyyy. Ended the night with the special dessert (banana bread with ice cream). Will definitely be coming back it was worth every penny we left full and content. Also side note before we ordered we had trouble picking what we wanted to eat because everything looked amazing and our server was so helpful and patient with us. Service was fast and efficient.
Food and service was excellent. Our server was very helpful in explaining the specials for the day and overall was very attentive in making sure we were enjoying our meal and happy to answer any questions. Portion sizes are smaller than what I've been used to from other restaurants that serve pasta which surprised me for a second but I wasn't disspointed. In the end it was perfect, both of us our dishes were full of so much flavor that it made you take your time while eating to enjoy every bite and the portion size was just right. Will definitely be back this place is worth coming back for the food and the service.
Visited several years ago and had a recent dinner here. The Stracciatella was super yummy and I really liked the spaghetti ala chitarra Neri (black spaghetti with octopus confit). A bottle of Piedirosso was a beautiful accent to the meal. Plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options in the menu.
The baby carrots were so nourishing and good with the yogurt. Had a really special night here especially because of the perfectly social arrangement of tables and I was lucky to be welcomed to a seat right away even when it looked really busy. Everyone was really nice to meet here
I searched most romantic/quaint restaurants in the city, this one came up somewhere in my searches and man does it fit the bill. The atmosphere in the room is intimate dark lit and vibrant. One of my favorite things about this place is that the room was full from the time we sat down to eat to the time where we left, and it was full of almost all the same people. You can really tell that park slope and al di la trattoria have a good relationship haha. last but not least the food... the food felt comforting, approachable, full of flavor and honestly not overpriced which is sometimes hard to come by living in the city. Our favorite dish was the Paccheri! I would encourage you to order multiple dishes and share, and don't forgot to not rush.
Absolutely phenomenal Italian food. The tagliatelle al ragu was the best I’ve had outside of Florence, and the squid ink polenta dish was incredible. None of the flavors here will take you by surprise, but everything I had was perfectly executed. Service is on point as well. I can understand why this place is a Brooklyn institution.
Lived nearby when this unassuming place opened and we were very impressed. Excellent food and very professional service each time we went which became often. Not surprisingly this great restaurant has outlasted its notable nearby neighboring spots. We always felt welcome and got good value for the money. Now I wanna go back soon!
My colleague and I were in Brooklyn for a work trip and decided to try Al di Là Trattoria, and what a gem it turned out to be! We opted to dine at their wine bar, conveniently located right around the corner on Carroll Street, and it was the perfect selection. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was impeccable. Our bartender was the definition of professional, attentive. As for the food, the meal was absolutely delicious. This is a must-visit spot in Carroll Gardens. We highly recommend it and will definitely be back next time we are in the area. A 5-star place for sure!
Super delicious spot! Cozy, neighborhood feel with a warm atmosphere. The cocktails are excellent Negroni Perfetti was a standout and the amari list looked great too. Oxtail stew appetizer was incredible, and the Ricotta Cavatelli with spicy tomato sauce was the winner between the pastas. Service was efficient and relaxed, never rushed. Food was good overall, some dishes better than others, but I’d definitely come back for the vibe, cocktails, and to try more dishes (and dessert next time!)
This Italian restaurant is one of the few places in NYC where you’ll find rabbit on the menu—and it’s prepared exceptionally well. The pear cake was another highlight, perfectly balanced and memorable. The food remains consistently excellent, served in a warm, authentic setting. Also, returning after several years, we were thrilled to find the same high quality and familiar menu we remembered.
Shout out to Milo, our epicurean guide. A great meal means fabulous food and ambiance, but not enough credit is given to the server, the culinary enthusiast who sets the tone for the adventure. We started with ZUCCHINI SALAD Ribbons of green and gold zucchini, fresh red chili, mint, onion, shaved Pecorino, lemon juice, olive oil Then shared RICOTTA CAVATELLI- Roasted tomatoes, garlic, chili, creamy lemony ricotta, basil; MALFATTI Swiss chard and ricotta gnocchi, brown butter and sage and CORN TORTELLI Homemade tortelli stuffed with corn and mascarpone, Parmigiano. The meal ended with a mango and pineapple sorbet and a warm pear cake with chocolate pieces baked inside. What is your work schedule, Milo?
Rolling thru our tour of the world, well, Portugal and New York. We got to enjoy dinner in Brooklyn with a dear friend and she introduced us to their favorite Italian neighborhood stop. al di la Trattoria, they also have a market/bar on the back side. I started with a delicious Espresso martini and the ladies had a glass of red. My drink was great and 3 beans so I can live another day. The red wine was just ok. We started with their cuttlefish and oxtail over polenta. It's sea salty and delicious My love ordered the Taglitille and Ragu, pasta is delicious made in house. The Ragu was ok a little flat. Our friend had the Braised Rabbit over polenta wow this is amazing. So flavorful and delicious. I had the Mushroom Polenta with a fried egg. It was woodsie and rich. And of course the polenta is great. My love and I got to share some amazing news with our friend. We so much appreciate her excitement and genuine hope and love for our future. It's magical to share this adventure with you, can't wait to see what's next...thank you for saying yes, and really? Love you to the moon and back and 1,000 miles more. 🖤🖤🖤
Amazing and unexpected delicious meal! It was rich and delicious! Everything we had was cooked to perfection. Excellent service! The wine was paired perfectly. Bread in the mussels was so delicious. Great and comfortable ambiance. It's so beautiful. It was comfortable, but not too casual.
So excited that I finally had an opportunity to try this Italian restaurant in Park Slope! Food was INCREDIBLE. The pasta was fresh and wine was delicious. Squash ravioli was unbelievable - a MUST order. Do not be deterred by the “second dining space” around the corner if the main dining room is full! I had a fabulous experience and would absolutely plan another dinner in the near future.
Delicious Italian spot in Park Slope. Everything in the menu hit. The pastas were amazing, the mushroom risotto was amazing, the asparagus appetizer was amazing… cannot go wrong!! Save room for dessert too! The cake was sublime! Good service and good wine too. Highly recommend going to al di la !!
Great service with a convenient app to order at your table during these pandemic times! The Tagliatelle Al Ragu was definitely the star of the show along with the Braised Rabbit. The rest of the food was also good, though the sides that weren’t pasta were more of a hit or miss. The pastas definitely takes the cake here! I had heard that they’re known for their risottos but we unfortunately weren’t able to find it on the menu.
Came here with my partner spontaneously one evening. The pasta with wild boar and polenta with cuttlefish in ink were delicious. The risotto was good. The greens were surprisingly good. The scallop risotto (if I remember correctly?) was impressive. I remember only being iffy on the soup. This is a place where you will want to order the entire menu. Will definitely return.
My wife and I have had both lunch and dinner at Al Di La. The food and service has always been very good. This restaurant is a block from our apartment so it's very convenient for us. Still, I would recommend it to people outside of the Park Slope area. It's very good and you don't have to wait nearly as long to be seated as Blue Ribbon. We have particularly enjoyed the specials each time we've gone there, so I would recommend taking a close look at them. The cost is generally fairly low for a restaurant of its quality. The service has also been great. The waiters have had good recommendations, and are very helpful in pairing wine with the meal. They also don't rush us. My one criticism is that the restaurant is a little small and it can feel a bit cramped inside. But if you don't mind that then I highly recommend Al Di La.
Service and ambiance are great here. Seating is a little tight resembling euro style seating, but it didn’t really bother us. We also really enjoyed the house made cheese and the pork ragu, some of the other items were a little off but I may visit again someday to try it out again.
We had a very nice meal at al di la Trattoria. Service was friendly and the food was generally good. For the pastas the corn tortelli was the definite highlight - it was the best dish of the night. We also really enjoyed the black spaghetti and the hanger steak. The gnocchi was not our favorite, we would skip that if we returned. The cocktails were also quite good. The total price for the meal perhaps felt a bit high, but it was a nice dining experience and the food did not disappoint.
Just came from a great and delicious dinner. The Ragu, ravioli omg so delicious such great flavor. The only thing we didn’t like - our server was like please hurry up and order our kitchen is closing. So we felt rushed the entire time. Our reservation was at 9 and we got there right at 9. And we sit and then 5 minutes later she tells us this. That was the only disappointing thing about the meal. Other than that food was great!
Everything so special and great. The perfect service, the quality of the diner, the beautiful location. Five stars. But I have to remove one star for the noise here. It is loud! If you want to talk, you have to shout. That's not ok. It feels like a part of the 42nd street is in Brklyn in this very good restaurant.
Food was superb although I was a bit disappointed with the bread and butter. Looked like someone just chopped a tablespoon out of a butter stick, and it was quite hard. Our entrees shined, though. Ragu tagliatelle and the braised rabbit were both delicious. A bottle of wine and panna cotta for dessert. A reasonable price for everything we got and the quality. Service was a bit disinterested and negligent at times but all in all just fine. An intimate dining room setting.
This place is super cozy and has a wholesome feeling to it. The tables for twos were too close together though, and it wasn't very nice. The ricotta ravioli was good but a bit too salty. Also tried the funghi and polenta dish which was filled with delicious mushrooms, really good for a warm, comforting meal. Overall we had a nice dinner!
2.10.23 - It's been over 10 years since we last came here and what brought us back was the tripe. It's as good as ever and I would dine here just for this dish alone. We had the seppia and oxtail over polenta, the trippa ala toscana, the stracciatella, paccheri and the ragu. In general, the pasta is very good, but the star of the menu is still the tripe. The staff is nice and attentive and the ambiance and decor are interesting and make you feel very at home.
The food was excellent. The young chicken was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked; and the mashed yukons were incredibly buttery, soft, and full of flavor. The tagliatelle Ragu was delicious, too. Only giving it 4 stars because their "to-go" setup is a little odd. I went there for a nice date, and instead I got served in to-go containers because they're currently only serving on their roadway seating area. I hope they open their indoor place soon, looking forward to coming back.
We wanted to come to al di lá for a while and glad we finally did. Made a reservation beforehand since this place does get busy on the weekend and glad we did. The drinks were delicious, we got a nice recommendation from a gentleman working here. The pasta was good - definitely fresh and quality ingredients but that’s it. There’s a lot of pasta shops in the area and they all sit at the same level of taste. Would definitely stop by again if I was ever in the mood for pasta and wanted to eat out.
We came here for a weeknight dinner. We came in and the place was pretty busy in a lively way. The restaurant was dimly lit with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered 2 Negroni Perfetti which were my favorite part of the meal - as someone who doesn’t drink Negronis often I was very pleasantly surprised I liked it that much! We started with bread and butter which was very good, then the Spring Salad. It was very light and fresh but I would probably order something else next time. Then we ordered the Tortelli di Piselli, a homemade green pasta stuffed with ricotta, and the Ricotta Cavatelli. Between the two I would choose the Ricotta Cavatelli - I loved the savory and slightly spicy tomato sauce on it. Although the Tortelli wasn’t my favorite, I will say both pastas were cooked to perfection, just slightly al dente. We were welcomed by a very nice gentleman when we entered the restaurant. The service was “European” style which I liked - very efficient, but we didn’t feel rushed at all even though we were finishing up around closing time. I would come back again for the vibe and cocktails if I were in the neighborhood again to try some different dishes, and maybe dessert! They also had a great amari/digestivi list which I’d like to partake in next time too.
I came here on a cold Wednesday night with a good friend in early January who lives nearby. I’m not sure when he booked the reservation but I would recommend making a reservation as the restaurant seemed quite crowded, but not packed. The restaurant is very quaint and feels like a neighborhood staple right when you come through the door. The food was good to great, but not amazing. The service was also good, but not exceptional. The cocktails and drink menu were also nice. This very much seems like the type of place where you would have want to have a nice meal with friends close to home. I would recommend and I would go back.
Food was very good. Surprisingly the ox tail squid ink polenta was our favorite appetizer. The pork loin main was fabulous. The handmade black ink seafood pasta had good texture. The gnocchi was… different, the center filling could use some texture and more flavor as it felt like mush in your mouth. The pasta ragu was good. Will be back with friends definitely.
We dined here on a Thursday night after hearing amazing things from friends in the area but it didn’t live up to the hype. The asparagus spears were very thick and bland, the tagliatelle took the definition of “al dente” to a new level and the chicken was dry and lacked flavor. We also tried the straciatella and the pea tortellini which were all edible but not notable. My favorite item was the mashed yukon potatoes served to accompany the chicken. I’m not normally a potato fan but they were delicious. Do yourself a favor and try one of the dozens of other amazing Italian restaurants in New York.
The space is cozy. The staff are very nice. I'm just not a fan of the food. I'm not saying it's bad, just not my preference. My sister chose this place. I wanted more protein options. The staff were willing to make a basic pasta dish for me. I opted for polenta and Brussel sprouts. My sister ordered a pasta dish and didn't like it. She swapped for a gnocchi dish which was ok.
As a person of Italian descent I was excited about this place since it has good reviews. Typically, I’d usually rather cook Italian at home given that it’s my forte. The kale salad had 2 croutons and 5 pieces of Parmesan. The squid ink pasta was cooked well and nicely spiced but I think they could’ve driven everything home a bit more. Not a bad meal but not as great as I was hoping it would be!
The food was AMAZING! I had mussels and tagliatelle, my wife had tortelli and a salad to start and it was all fantastic. Terrible service. Our server seemed to have chalked us up to the table he was going to sacrifice so he could pay attention to every other table. He delivered our food to the wrong table and didn’t realize until about 10 minutes later. He was apologetic but generally pretty poor at serving.
The pasta is not bad but it needs more flavour (fe. Parmesan), the quail risotto is was a risotto with vegetable and two pieces of quail on the rice ($26 is expensive for rice). The cheesecake is excellent. One of the best that I have eaten in NY. The food is home-made but it’s needs anything else.
I’m not someone who usually enjoys fancy restaurants, and I was hoping this place would change my mind. But honestly, any restaurant that charges over $20 for a single scoop of food is not worth it. Don’t get me wrong, the food was fantastic and tasted divine, but charging $20-$25 for 6-8 tortellinis? I don’t care if they were handmade or crafted by the hands of God—that small amount of food on my plate is just depressing.
Genuinely the worst gnocchi I’ve ever had. Large green balls that sit in a pool of oil. Also too much ice in the Negroni…
I would like to start off by saying this review is mostly about the table Infront of us that clearly lacked any couth, class and basic human decency who thought it was ok to continuously stare at my significant other and I as we tried to grab a quick bite after shopping in the area. The table who decided to blatantly and continuously stare at us as if we were a main attraction and to top it off the man in the blue who proceeded to stare my significant other up and down in disgust( full disclosure we are an interracial couple) as we decided to not finish our meal just so we could head home since we were very uncomfortable and annoyed. Decided to catch some pics of them while they weren't looking. As far as the food and service goes- subpar.
We have been coming here on and off for years and enjoyed the consistency of the dishes but last night we went for appetizers and pasta, ordered 2 portions of the Paccheri Pasta. We were shocked when it came out at the skimpiness of the portion. It was like they split one serving for both plates. I think for $28 a plate it was pretty cheeky to let that leave the kitchen and be sent to the table. In these more trying times the last place we want to see shrinkflation is when it gets put down in front of us at a restaurant we like, just sours the taste of the whole meal.
On the surface, the food was barely edible. We started off with the mussels, which tasted overwhelmingly like oregano. So much so that I felt sick. The pasta vongole was even worse. Bland, tasteless and filled with too much garlic. I went home feeling off but by the end of the night my stomach was a mess. Would not recommend eating here.
I've been going to al di la Trattoria for many years with my partner being that's is just down the block from where we live - Usually for glass of wine sipped in the outside booth. Well, that's done - never again as the staff service is very inattentive, even when catching our glances from us to indicate we would like our order taken, after sitting for more than 10 or more minutes. Bus boys good, wait staff bad. We would look at the waiter walking by thinking they would finally take our order, but no acknowledgement at all. What the heck? The food is ok, just really mediocre really, as we usually just go for a glass or 2 of wine. The wines offered are pretty decent, but the service really stinks. The noise from the street is distracting at times when sitting in the outside booth - the fire hydrant next to it provides a temporary place for people to pull over quickly, so it's constantly being used and thus extra noisy. The sidewalk is kind of grungy too, so it might be better to eat inside and wait forever there for someone to take your order. Want a real Italian food experience? In Brooklyn, go on 6th Ave between 10th and 14th street, or 8th Ave between 8th and 14th street and choose any of the Italian restaurants there for a way better experience - service and food wise.
I usually never leave reviews but this place was so bad it broke my streak. The service was just genuinely rude for zero reason from the start. It seemed like we were annoying them by being there, not mention we got seated in a place in which a wall jutted into one of our backs… Probably shouldn’t be a seat? The food was decent but not at all worth the experience nor the prices, which are high enough to warrant this complaint. Which is especially bad given we went for a birthday celebration but… we’ll have to start over. There are many better places in this neighborhood worth your time and money (eg Pasta Louise, which has a pleasant wait staff that are comparably like Disney world compared to here). We won’t annoy you again!
This was my first time at al di la and I was disappointed. From the fees charged for bread, to no Pinot Grigio, the food generally had too much oil, not much taste, and the general vibe was less about authentic Italian restaurant and more to unkempt rooms that were generally empty. Started with going through the main area which involved pushing through a large blanket to going downstairs to the wine room where there was a limited drink selection, uncomfortable seating and a mish mash of plates. Not a great experience, although the service was decent which may have been due to the lack of patrons.
I really wanted to like this place, but the matcha was awful. It tasted watered down and bitter, almost like it hadn’t been whisked properly or was made with cheap powder. Instead of being smooth and earthy, it was gritty and left a strange aftertaste. I expected way better. Honestly, I couldn’t even finish mine. Definitely not worth the 8 dollars for a matcha…
