Barbaco Tio Brooklyn Reviews
Authentic Mexican restaurant with the sweetest staff ever! I celebrated my friend’s 21st birthday here and she loved the old time music. We had burritos and quesadillas, it was flavorful. Try all of the sauces, it’s incredible!
This is an excellent addition to the Park Slope neighborhood serving fresh Mexican food. Outstanding service with plenty of seating inside and out along with a fully stocked bar. Dined inside and was helped immediately. Ordered a Pollo Barbacoa taco and Pico de Gallo / chips as a starter. This Pollo was so fresh tasting and was a cool way of serving where it didn't come with toppings. You could take your plate, or bring to your table from a topping station in the adjacent room. reminded me eating Mexican food in Arizona like this. Super tasty taco with so many sauces to choose from. Also ordered a Barbacoa Burrito which had the best burrito skin wrap where it's not thick, but rather a thinner one that didn't get in the way of your bites. The meat was thicker, but shredded apart so easily. Do add one of their sauces to enhance the flavor. For the kiddo, the beam and cheese quesadilla was well made. All the food was a good size and the price point was very affordable especially for the area. Only slight knock is the chips felt pretty simple and light so would snap easily one dipping into the Pico. All-in-all great place and would/will go back in a heartbeat. One thing that was cool to see there was a woman by the front entrance slicing up the cooked meat to make the tacos. - Super friendly service - Fresh tasting food - Price on point
RUN, don’t walk to barbaco tio. They have the best tortillas I’ve had in the states (hands down). They nixtamalize and grind the masa daily. The service was fantastic and the food is flavorful and great for a group dining experience or intimate dinner. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood. Will plan to make this a part of our regular rotation
This place is a gem. they nailed the vibe and the barbacoa is excellent. The tacos have a ton of meat. Great prices on margaritas as well. My only feedback was the chicken tacos left a little to be desired. The portion size was solid but it was a little too dry. A salsa specific for that taco could help. Overall definitely check this place out!
The gorgeous patio caught our attention from the street, and the staff invited us in for tacos. We had just eaten, but decided to stay for some mexican coffee and aguas frescas. They have a lot of room and dining area inside! My drink was one of the best jamaica aguas frescas I've had, slightly spiced and full of flavor! The Mexican coffee was great too. The staff were so friendly and their hospitality was amazing. We weren't hungry but they gave us tacos to try anyway. We will definitely be back!
Everything about this place is awesome! The restaurant itself is beautiful and makes you feel like you’re somewhere else entirely. The food is delicious, whatever you get especially the tamales! And the service is very kind and attentive!
As someone else said, I was drawn in by the beautiful mural and exterior and stayed for a quick taco! It was delicious and the tortilla was so fresh. Folks working there were super nice and it’s spacious indoors. They just opened but will look forward to enjoying their patio this spring!
Lovely atmosphere and amazing service! Can be either a casual spot or for a special occasion. The kilo servings is a must and you won’t regret ordering!

Our family came to Barbaco Tio for dinner, and everyone found something they loved. My kids loved the quesadillas, my husband devoured the carnitas tacos, and I couldn’t get enough of the spicy barbacoa. It’s our new family favorite spot!
Discovered this spot walking by and it did not disappoint. It felt like stumbling upon a taqueria in San Miguel, Mexico. The passion fruit margarita was delightful and the burrito was exactly what I’ve been looking for in NY for over 20 years. Thank you Barbaco Tio for coming to our neighborhood and bringing authentic Mexican food to Brooklyn!
Stumbled across this restaurant on Friday walking by- and came back Saturday to check it out with my husband. Let’s just say we found our new fav spot! We were first impressed with the outdoor space tucked in a quiet street off of 5th and loved that we could bring our dog. Then came the food - and we were blown away with the quality and value. My husband got several different items and when I realized one was a quesadilla I was floored because of how much meat came with it. They have a great little salsa bar and tons of sauces so you can really customize your meal to your liking. We can’t wait to come back to of the Taco Kit. Make sure to check this place out- you won’t be disappointed. It also helped that the staff were beyond friendly and attentive!
Had a great experience! We ate a lovely meal , the portions of the maduros were enormous! Wow, we ate them up! And my kids devoured the rice and beans. Loved the pinwheels outside, such a calming beautiful atmosphere.
I’ve tried a lot of taco spots around town, and Barbaco Tio tops them all. The tortillas taste homemade, and the meat is slow-cooked to perfection. The flavors are rich but not greasy — just pure, delicious authenticity.
This is a great new addition to the neighborhood; the corn tortillas are made in-house so the tacos and quesadillas tasted very fresh. Prices were about as reasonable as it gets in Park Slope and the staff was super friendly! Will definitely be back!
My friends and I stopped at Barbaco Tio after the farmer’s market, and it instantly became our new weekend tradition. The food is fresh, the music is fun, and the vibe is laid-back. It feels like a place you want to come back to again and again.
Came here for my friends birthday. Their food was amazing and they made us feel like family. Great specials and gave us birthday cake on the house. Fantastic service, great people. Would definitely recommend
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) I absolutely loved this place! The barbacoa was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Their handmade tortillas were soft and fresh — you can really taste the authenticity in every bite. The portions were generous for the price, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The outdoor patio is also beautiful, making it a great spot to enjoy a relaxing meal with friends or family. If you’re craving real Mexican flavor, this hidden gem is definitely worth the trip. Highly recommended! 🌮✨

I went there when I went to NY and it’s become our favorite day of the trip. The deals were great, but it’s the flavor that keeps us coming back. The tacos are juicy and flavorful!! Absolute perfection.

I love spice, and Barbaco Tio nails it. The tamarind drink is amazing. Paired with the juicy barbacoa, it’s heaven in a tortilla. My taste buds were dancing the whole meal.

Great, delicious food. Authentic Mexican flavor. Felt like home in a taco. Went there on a Sunday around lunch time and there was a 30min wait but totally worth it. They just opened less than a month ago, so they are still figuring a lot of their logistics out, service can be really slow (but kind) and miss part of your order but, if you're patient enough the Barbacoa is just incredibly good here. Will be back for sure.

The restaurant has a very casual feel, fun decor, outdoor and indoor space. The service was very friendly. The lamb and the chicken was juicy, tender, but both could use more flavor. The soup was flavorful. The meal came with pickled peppers and onions and nopales, and some other toppings that were all great.

My husband and I were so excited when this place opened! We both love Mexican food and thought it would be a great new spot to add to our list. We finally went and ordered the chicken tacos, chicken tamale, lamb barbacoa quesadilla, and guac with chips. Unfortunately, none of the food had much flavor. The tamale barely had any chicken, and everything we tried was super bland — no salt, no seasoning. My husband never leaves leftovers, and he didn’t even finish half of his quesadilla. There was nothing barbacoa about any of the food. We really wanted to like this place, but we left disappointed (and still hungry) after spending about $75. The only highlight was the great service — our waiter Brian (I think) was really nice and attentive. The bartender was also really nice.
