Fragole Ristorante Brooklyn Reviews
incredible!!! best italian food i’ve ever had, fast and friendly service, excellent atmosphere. couldn’t recommend more
i go here for my birthday every year and i love it
Absolutely wonderful bolognese (sub homemade pasta per server recommendation). Cannot recommend enough
Charming and quaint Italian restaurant in Carroll Gardens serving delicious food that has been consistent for the last 5 years. They are back to serving wine after forgetting to renew their liquor license a year ago so this has become my new favorite neighborhood joint! Just enjoyed a great lunch last week and was back for dinner yesterday. The pasta with eggplant was delicious as was the mushroom polenta. Go go go!
I had occasion to dine at Fragole 15 years ago and it was so memorable that I recommended the place for a recent dinner with some friends. Food and wine selection and quality, charming atmosphere, friendly and efficient service and price all add up to great value. Looking forward to my next terrific meal!
This place is under the radar which is great because it's in a pretty popular neighborhood but allows for availability. Food is all freshly prepared and authentic. They care about the food and the customers. Wine and beer only but some great deals on wines with some 1/2 carafes, quartos, etc. Staff is great and they do not rush you. Have been very happy here every time.
Some of the best Italian food in Brooklyn! The short ribs, the homemade ravioli, and the wine were spectacular! Love the beautiful outdoor patio. Wonderful service. Perfect night out.
Amazing Italian food with a great classic selection. My boyfriend and I ate here and we had an incredible regus and the bread dip was quite great and interesting as well. Homemade pasta and solid ingredients shone through- happy we found this!
Careful and skillfully prepared food. They aim to please
I love Fragole!! Gorgeous outdoor setup in the back that is ventilated but also well heated; super friendly wait staff; really accommodating to changes on the menu, ie pesto gnocchi; decent wine selection and interesting bellinis, like LAVENDER!! Definitely going to come back!
This is my favourite Italian restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn with a pasta dish that I'm convinced has crack in it, it is that good. Fragole is fairly new and if you were looking for an Italian restaurant in the Court St area, I so very recommend this place. The owner is hands on and takes so much pride in his restaurant. The vibe is rustic and homely, welcoming you like an Italian grandma. I have many a favorite dish here but the one I truly love, the one I get multiple times, the one I can eat seconds and thirds of is the Rigatoni Bolognese. There is something inside that just gives me all kinds of feels in my mouth I cannot describe it, you must try it for yourself. But if I were honest, every dish I've tried here has been phenomenal. A hidden gem would be exactly what I'd describe Fragole as. I do recommend their brunch menu too. Both, the sweet and savory options have been lovely. The prices are fair and if you're driving, there are metered spots right outside. Mmmm, now I'm hungry for some pasta.
Cozy and romantic ambiance with amazing home made pasta you want to keep coming back for. Backpacked around in Italy and the food is authentic Italian, brings back memories! True neighborhood gem!
Wonderful bolognese! Owner was really friendly and food was authentic with original kick. Definitely coming back to try their carbonara next time.
Fragole is a staple for us! We can’t go more than a few weeks without dinner here. I don’t know what’s better, the food or the atmosphere. All of the Fragole people are wonderful and make you feel like you’re at home. Their kale Caesar is SO GOOD and their calamari is my favorite I’ve had. Oh and their tiramisu. And bolognese. Just everything. We love Fragole!!
Last minute, I decided to meet my friends here to celebrate my birthday and I couldn't be happier. The reservation was on time, and we started with espresso martinis. All the cocktails drinks are amazing. The food was also great, with fresh warm bread to start! Overall, my friends and I were satisfied with the food, drinks, service and was within our budget! The bartender and servers were attentive. I would recommend this place for family and friends to have dinner, something tranqui.
Huge portions and very cozy very fast cooking subpar service
Loved the place from the moment we were seated. The whole staff was really nice and friendly, they did their best to make us feel welcomed and we did. The food was delicious and came out perfectly timed after appetizers. I found out that the bread and the pasta is all made from scratch there, and that itself speaks a lot about the height quality of the food here. The ambiance overall is warm and homey, a must visit for anyone that lives close enough.
I recently attended a baby shower at Fragole. The food, drinks and ambiance were truly amazing. The food was great! My favorite is the steak, the fungi polenta and my absolute favorite dessert crème brûlée. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for a few years and the event brought me Fragole for the first time. Since then, I’ve been to Fragole 3x! Victor and his staff are great! True gem in the neighborhood.
Polenta/mushroom appetizer and the salad were both fantastic. Homemade pasta was very good. The short rib was unusually good, it just melts in your mouth. Wife got the steak and fries, and that was good too. Be aware upfront: the atmosphere is a little loud but that comes with the territory of restaurants in the area. Waiter was timely and responsive. Drinks were nice too. Only improvement to offer: wish they'd put the year on the wine menu.
The best pasta bolognese in the neighborhood. And that says something, given the neighborhood. The freshest salads. Some wonderfully inventive cocktails. And a music playlist curated by one of the savviest managers and an expert bartender- her music choices are extraordinary. We love this place.
I was at this place this weekend for the second time and the food is amazing, good flavor and consistency. The homemade pastas and dessert are to die for. Víctor, Paola, Camila and Alex do a great team job. good service, food and drinks everything was excellent. I can't wait to go back❤️❤️❤️
First time ordering take out and it was very good! Their spaghetti and meatballs were delicious and their Brussels sprouts were well seasoned. I will 100% order from this place again. Their bread rolls were also perfectly baked. ALSO, I did see their covered heated patio and it seems to be pretty Covid safe!
Absolutely wonderful! No exceptions, it is a very pleasant experience every single time when we are at Fragole. Excellent customer service, great team, delicious food, lovely ambiance. They have a backyard with heaters, a roof & protection on the sides...so enjoying a meal with loved ones outdoors even in colder temperatures is totally doable. Those heaters work very well. My favorite is most of the pastas including lasagna, and the specialty fish or any fish in the main courses. Calamari as an app is delicious in addition to the Esotica Salad.
I've been coming here for years and the food has always been consistently good. My go to is the Rigatoni Firenze. The eggplant is beautifully cooked and delicately smoky and complements the tomato sauce and the gooey chunks of mozzarella. The other dish I would recommend is the spaghetti dish with the saffron sauce (might not be on the menu anymore). For dessert the tiramisu is a good choice. The coffee flavor comes through and is not overly sweet. The last time there was a bit too much cocoa powder on top. Also, just noticed today they also offer gluten free pasta.
Been going to Fragole regularly for a while as I live in the neighborhood. It is a great spot. Excellent food and the staff are always so friendly and accommodating, always go out of their way to make sure we have a good experience.
Wonderful experience! Comfortable, quiet outdoor covered seating. Delicious, reasonably priced food. Varied menu with plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options. Excellent service! Wish we lived in the area... We'd be sure to go back!
lifechangingly good tiramisu!! delish pasta, pillowy soft gnocchi, just a marvelous time & lovely cocktails too! oh and we must hold space for the delectable fluffy free bread
Cannot say enough nice things about Fragole. Food, atmosphere, staff (especially Camilla) are wonderful. Feels like such a gem and so homey. <3 Fragole!
Delicious food , great service and always fresh ingredients. I had so many dishes at Fragole and you can’t go wrong with anything . Kitchen stuff works really hard to make sure every costumers leaves happy and full. They also do catering with great prices and eye pleasing arranged food. Highly recommend it !
Fragole restaurant has become one of our fav to go. Quality of food and service are always excellent very consistent, never had a bad day. The staff is really lovely and friendly, music is top ! Highly recommend
I love, love, love this place! Have been a regular since I moved into the neighborhood a couple of years ago. It is a cozy, and very welcoming place. Food is amazing and they do have very nice daily specials. Staff is very attentive and friendly, service is great too. The perfect place to have a date, hang out with friends or a for a family dinner. Try out the Rigatoni Bolognese, it's like heaven!
Fantastic little bistro style Italian restaurant. Appetizers were served family style. Wine by the glass was very good and pricing was very reasonable. Excellent service as well.
Lovely restaurant, food was delightful. A bit short on staff. Atmosphere quiet and romantic.
This is a very small place but it’s very cute and romantic. The food was delicious, my partner and I love Italian. My only critique is the bruschetta bread was a bit too crunchy for my liking. Just really difficult to bite into. Overall though, it was a great place and the portions were perfect.
The service was really good, the cocktails were great, If you like tequila, mezcal, I highly recommend their drinks menu. The food was great, I have tried the bisteca a la birria(steak), seafood pasta, and for me they both were 10/10. Every visit has never been a dissapoiment. Have visited 4 times so far. Highly recommend 👌.
Had a fantastic, homemade pasta, dinner! The cocktails were amazing. The dinner was perfect.... Pasta with a short rib sauce, excellent salads, and the appetizer Brochetta was delicious! Highly recommend!
I hosted a party for 11 people and victor put together a unique menu for us. Not only was the food delicious, they accommodated to my guests very specific allergies. This really made it hassle free and easy to enjoy the moment and be present with everyone. Carolina was one of our servers and she did an amazing job dealing with all 11 of us! The drinks are always spot on! No one better than victor at the bar!! Looking forward to coming back from Philly!
Great food; Italian classics and interesting specials. Visited with family and everyone was impressed. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service.
Good was decent, nothing special but definitely very good. The waiter Victor was amazing. He seemed to really enjoy his job - chatting and hiking with guests, offering drinks, having small shots with the guests etc. This place was really a nice surprise!
Delicious food, but outstanding service. They accommodated us in a very lovey patio in the back. Would return any day
Neighborhood staple run by amazing people, and still open for takeout or delivery. You can’t go wrong with Fragole’s assortment of pastas, salads, meat dishes and other tasty offerings. You can even get wine or cocktails to go now. While we miss the lively ambiance of the restaurant, the food is just as good at home and will have to do for now!
This is by far the best restaurant I have eaten in, for its always delicious food, and its friendly service. I've had various pasta dishes, fish, hangar steak oh so juicy. The tiramisu is a poem. Btw I had brunch there on the weekend. The best! The price is very reasonable for the quality. The atmosphere is cozy.
Juan was our waiter. He was very attentive. He answered all our questions. We will definitely be back. And of course the food was so good. We order the lentil soup, lasagna and the spaghetti with vongole.
Ok… lifetime New Yorker. And, This is one of my favorite restaurants (Italian) in the Five Boroughs. The specials are ALWAYS fresh and perfectly cooked. I’m not exaggerating. The menu is small but classically potent. I can go on about the risotto but I need to talk about the staff. The STAFF is why I don’t just come back, but miss it when I’m gone too long. The vibe from everyone is so positive and happy with no pretense whatsoever. The prices are so low I giggle when the check comes. The atmosphere is unique. The music is ALWAYS covers of classic rock/pop with a Bossa Nova beat. It starts out corny. By the time dessert comes… I’m tapping my foot. A magical neighborhood place. Tourists are rare.
Loved discovering this Carroll Gardens’ neighborhood staple that has been serving up an assortment of homemade pasta dishes and Italian fare since 2003 (unbelievable longevity in this day and age!) This was a fun menu to explore, here were our faves: 🍄🟫 Tagliatelle al Funghi e Tartufo 🍝 Spaghetti con le Vongole 🦞 Lobster Ravioli 🥖 Ricotta bruschetta 🥩 Carpaccio Classico 🍸 Caprese Martini 🍰 Tiramisu
Another review commented “a neighborhood restaurant you want to travel to” and I agree. Our daughter recently moved to Carroll Gardens. We were celebrating a birthday and we drove in from NJ, other family came from Manhattan, to meet here in Carroll Gardens and in Fragole. This is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant with excellent cocktails, wonderful food, and good service. Our party of 7 had a great time. The staff recognized the birthday person too, which made the evening even better.
We weren’t planning on coming here and walked in without a reservation on an early Friday evening and glad we did. The pasta dishes were very good. The favorite item was honestly the ricotta bruschetta with honey 🍯 and truffle mushrooms. All the dishes were very good especially the gnocchi. The squid ink shrimp pasta has a spicy kick 🦵 so just a heads up. All in all a very good place with great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We came for a short weekend to NYC and this was the only spot we chose to come to twice. The service was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals and various cocktails. We came in for dinner and it was quite busy and Victor greeted us with a smile and rearranged the tables outside quickly and without complaint to make sure we felt accommodated. The food was delicious and we shared we were here for the half marathon so they made sure to keep our water glasses full and joked about staying hydrated. We returned the next night for cocktails and it was just as delicious and everyone was just as happy to help us with our selections. If we come back to Brooklyn, this will definitely be on on must have list!
Walked in for a casual date night in the neighborhood without any expectation. But boy, we were utterly amazed at every dish we got! Especially the Vongole was one of the best, the most flavorful I’ve had in years in the city. We legit cleared every dish like it was our last meal 😂 (rigatoni, bruschetta, and the desserts were all delicious!) The drinks were good too. The atmosphere was cozy, not too crowded, and the staffs were very chill and friendly. I loved that they don’t bother you in the middle of eating / talking to remove our dishes like all the other restaurants do these days. They let us take our time. We are definitely coming back to try other pasta!!
I love Fragole. I recently celebrated my birthday here with 10+ friends. It was the best birthday ever! Victor, Camilla, and the whole team go out of their way to make you feel at ease and satisfy your cravings. The food is authentic and delicious and the drinks are addictive — so good! Highly recommend the polenta and calamari for appetizers and the steak for your entrée. The atmosphere is relaxed and playful. Trust me, after a few cocktails you’ll enjoy the music in the background even more, and if you’re lucky you might get to play your favorite songs. Thank you for making my birthday special!
We love the food at Fragole. They have excellent service, delicious home made pasta end a good wine list. We’ve been going there for a couple of years and the food is always fresh and delish we have also taken friends and family there to eat and they loved the food. To summarize, they get 5 stars as they are well earned.
Amazing Italian food that was worth the long walk from Wall Street! The outside seating is nice and quiet and the interior has a calm ambiance with funny signs! The staff was very attentive and friendly and the food came out very fast! The bread was warm, toasty and came with a tasty red sauce although I wish we got more bread. The menu has a great variety of food with very reasonable prices! my friend got the gnocchi which she loved, I got the special with homemade fettuccine, chicken, sun dried tomatoes in a cream sauce which was delicious! The portions were perfect and everything was fresh!
This place is amazing, Very recommended, my wife and I went for dinner and the experience was very satisfied…. Great cocktails, (very tasty espresso martini), and the homemade pasta is out of this world, service is a 100% very attentive and full of acknowledge about there food items and drinks. Definitely coming back
Guyssss! This is the BEST restaurant ever!!! Must must must try!!! We’re celebrating our mom’s bday and looking for a place that caters for party of 9. The catering menu is fantastically well priced with so much variety and you get so much good and fresh food with huge portions! The owner, Claudio, is super friendly and easy going! He made sure that all the dishes come with the best fresh taste and gorgeous presentation! Food is fantastic, fresh with huge portions. The “Grilled calamari salad”, “Hangar steak”, “Grilled Salmon”, “fettuccine with mushroom cream”, “Black spicy linguini shrimp” and the special house-made “tiramisu cake” ARE TO DIE FOR - literally! Thanks so much for the amazing experience! We loved everything!
The salumi misti was very good.....nice assortment of cheese meats olives artichoke hearts and roasted peppers plus the fig jam bread was amazing. The grilled calamari was ok but not great....a little bland. Would not order that again. Ordered a side of the polpetta as an appetizer and they were very good however would've really enjoyed the callabrian sauce from the linguini nera and shrimp entree for them better. The linguini was amazing.....would go back for that in a heartbeat. The sauce was deleciously sweet with an under current of heat from the peppers. Really good but portion was a bit small. The carbonara was also good and super filling. All in all a great experience. Definitely a cute neighborhood spot for a nice dinner with no fuss at.affordable prx. Space is a little tight but adds an element of charm and creates cozy atmosphere. Good for couples date night or friends dinner.
Service was amazing. Food was definitely fresh. Had the braised pork osso buco, fresh papadele w broccoli Rabe and sausage. Pizza olive bruchetta was my least favorite . Grilled octopus salad was great. Went there on a Sat later afternoon during memorial day weekend and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Server was amazing
Exceptional authentic Italian flavor in a setting perfect for date night or catching up with friends
Gosh, we loved the food here. Kids loved the fries, which are of the nearly shoestring variety. My husband's eggs and bacon looked fabulous, and the pancakes looked incredible. As for me, I had the grilled octopus over hummus with green beans and tomatoes. It was incredible and a healthy choice for ww or low carb. Food was fresh and arrived really quickly. So why not five stars? The waiter was super friendly but he missed our two special requests (we asked for no cheese on the burger, and no home fries with the eggs, but got both). And the place REALLY needs to put some cloth somewhere to dampen the noise level, which is too high. The atmosphere is a little too industrial for my taste (concrete, white walls with black letters, simple tables, basic lights) so there is no elegance there... except in the food. We'll go back soon.
I was really happy my daughter introduced me to Fragole. It is a small, but excellent, Italian restaurant on Court Street in Cobble Hill. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the food, including the butternut squash soup and the eggplant parmigiana, was first-rate. In these difficult (and, currently, cold) times, it's good to know that they have a nice set up in back, a semi-enclosed structure with heat lamps. The social distancing was good, and the food was better.
Perfect neighborhood spot with fresh pasta and red sauce. Highly recommend looking at the daily specials. When we last went was a spinach tagliatelle with meatballs. has a great spice to it if you are looking for spicy. If you are looking for a fresh pasta tasty red sauce with service that makes you feel like a regular then you will love it!
There's a good reason this establishment has been around for 20 yrs now. The menu has barely changed. They never fail to deliver great dishes; the pasta always al dente. It's like eating with family.
I had the polenta with mushrooms as an appetizer and absolutely loved it. It was creamy and the consistency was delicious. My entree was the carbonara and it was one of the best dishes I had in a long time. The employees were friendly and very accommodating. The restaurant had a good food and good vibes. You can tell there are many local favorites that patron the place, including my friend Tania who introduced us to this gem.
Nice Restaurant - tight fit, and chilly especially if they have you sitting near the front window/door. Food is tasty but weird combination - a special dish was a pork chop with risotto and when I tasted the risotto it was a fish risotto… wanted to let them know but our waitress disappeared so we just Left it and by time she got back to us we just asked for the check and left.
Never before have I faced such a discrepancy between the quality of food at a restaurant. The appetizers were fantastic. My partner and I loved the calamari and brussels sprouts. When the pasta came out, I could not have been more disappointed. This was the worst lasagna I have had in 8 years, and maybe ever at a restaurant. It had no ricotta and it was not baked long enough to be firm in any way. It was just a red sauce that was overly salty and suggested it was store-bought with ground beef that clearly had not been cooked with the sauce in between floppy layers of pasta. There was a small amount of mozzarella on top. I was astounded at the poor quality of this dish. It felt like a joke. When my partner's rigatoni bolognese arrived I noticed the sauce was orange indicating there was cream in it, rather than the dark red color that results from the meat stewing with the tomatoes properly. Her pasta was also overcooked and soft, nowhere near the proper texture. The difference between the appetizers, which again were very impressive, and both pasta dishes indicates to me that this was not an issue of one bad day in the kitchen but a leading philosophy by the people designing the menu. They simply do not know how to make pasta here. It seems to be borrowed from an Italian-American's secondhand knowledge of food their family makes, rather than an understanding of the proper methods. Were I to recommend this restaurant, I would advise one steers clear of any pasta, or find it somewhere else. There are too many good Italian restaurants in New York for this to be passable.
Prices are too high for what you get. This is not my favorite Italian place in Brooklyn, even though the decor is nice. The food is good and all, but much too pricy for what I really ordered. I would recommend Mama Maria's or Claudine's. You'd enjoy those.
The food was decent, but the portions are tiny. Left totally unsatisfied. Also they don't have fried calamari... only grilled. What kind of Italian place doesn't have fried calamari?
Went here with a few friends. There was a large party for a birthday so I expected the service would be slow but we weren’t checked on at all unless we flagged someone down. It took a while for our food to come out but that was expected. We asked for bread and butter which both came out quickly. However, when my shrimp risotto special came out i was so underwhelmed. It tasted bland and underdeveloped. The portions were good sized so the pricing isn’t that bad, but for $23 I expected better. My friends food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t spectacular or anything. It’s a cute spot but probably won’t be going back.
We came in around 4pm on a Saturday. We were greeted with a kind server and he took our order. We then see this server leaves, which we understand. But after he left, it seemed that we were invisible. With almost 3 servers and staff around, we waited about half an hour for our starters and another 25 after for our entrees. Mind you we were the only table in this restaurant…It felt like we were not wanted there, with the staff having their family meal and us still waiting for our entrees. With staff looking at our table but not communicating what was going on. Of course when the meal comes closer to the check, they want to be attentive to get a tip. Food was okay, not worth the terrible service. No communication from the staff. We will not be coming back again.
Friendly service, but chaotic and slow. Food on two visits was terribly disappointing, not very well executed in the pasta and meat departments. And... the 15 minute gap between giving my credit card and getting it and the check back really sealed the deal – there are so many other places in Carroll Gardens that serve better food, there's no need to go here.
Chef or manager, I would have been embarrassed to serve the food you did - like seriously embarrassed. This was a classic example of Italian food without the soul. Hope it was just an off night. Two positives: the waitstaff, and the check folios. The quality of the leather was really phenomenal.
In about 10 years of ordering in food in the city, I haven’t once felt a need to leave a review. Ordered in based on the pretty good reviews and press. We’re not particularly fussy, but we were honestly incredibly disappointed. We tried three pastas, the vegetable platter, broccoli rabe, and tiramisu. As a whole, dishes were bland and overpriced given the quality. Vegetable platter: Not well cooked, and particularly overpriced - you get maybe a couple pieces of zucchini, eggplant, pepper, artichoke, mozzarella, and beets. But for the price, it really should have been either greater in quantity or quality. Pasta: ordered gnocchi, ravioli, and ragu. All of them had similar weaknesses: little flavor, watery sauces, overcooked pasta. Broccoli rabe: there was a hair in it and it was surprisingly over-seasoned with hot pepper flakes. Tiramisu: just not great. The cream was fine, but the cake was doused and pretty inedible. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend it. Just wasn’t appetizing. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and head over to Gersi instead.
Looked cheese and wine night and ended up in this place. They claim to be Italian but coming from Milan I can guarantee there is nothing Italian about it. We ordered spritz and sat at the bar so I can see how they are preparing it, it was the cheapest prosecco from the liquor store. Then the salumi plate arrived because they mistaken the order, it was the cheapest salumi plate I have seen in a NYC restaurant. They had low quality supermarket stuff and cheese was american all the way. Then we cancelled order and left. Staff has attitude too.
First time I dined here alone; awesome service, food and atmosphere. Second time I highly recommended to a friend because it was so awesome. We dined here and again it was amazing. The 3rd time I was so looking forward to eating here. I was dining alone like the 1st time, same male waiter, but this time he couldn’t be bothered with me. He rarely came to my table. I had to flag him down every time he came to my table. There were jovial people sitting at the bar having a great time. They must have been regular’s because he was right in there with them 75% of the time I was there. The 4th and last time I’ll dine there, I went to give it another shot. I have food allergies which they accommodated the 1st 2 visits. The 3rd time I think it was a little annoying for him. This 4th visit he was defensive and a little aggressive. Ive been to restaurants where the chef is happy to make accommodations. Not here. It’s insulting. I finished my salad and waited for the main course for almost an hour. I had to flag someone down to check the status. In 5 minutes my meal came and it was cold. Rather than asking them to make it right, god forbid, I just wanted to eat and be done with it. I’m a 25% tipper, maybe more for exceptional service. This night this service wasn’t worth 10%. I discovered this restaurant after I moved from NYC. Out of all the restaurants in all the boroughs, I made it a point to come back here when I’m in town because of my 1st and 2nd experiences. I thought the 3rd visit was a fluke. I gave it another chance and it was worse than the time before. You know, if someone is dining alone giving excellent service, attentive service is what I think would come naturally. I really don’t like writing a negative review. When I’m read reviews, I appreciate the ones that help me make the right decision for myself. I’m writing this for anyone who is planning to dine alone and/or has food allergies. There are SO many amazing options in NYC. This might be a risky option.
I decided to try a new Italian spot tonight in the area and was disappointed I couldn't try their food. The small plate that was already set up on the table had a lot of oil residue from the previous table I presume. I have no idea how dirty plates can get put back on as fresh plates on the table.
