Sheldrake Point Winery Interlaken Reviews
We did the vintage tasting room with Michael -- loved every minute! Great wine. Great experience. Great conversation (and learning!). Best winery of our day!!!!
Of the tastings we did on Cayuga, this was our favorite, because we were able to sit at a table and really enjoy our tasting. We didn’t feel rushed, the wine was excellent and the winery has a beautiful view of the lake.
This is a great winery. The staff is always friendly and they have terrific wines. I personally do not like iced wines, but theirs is a must try. THE HOURS ON GOOGLE ARE WRONG - It is only open until 5:30 daily. NOT 7:00
We were told that Cayuga didn't have any great wineries compared to Seneca and Keuka. Boy, were they wrong. Sheldrake has the ambiance, the product, and great service. We bought a case of wine - that's something we *never* do. Of note was the Gamay; you almost never see Gamay in the FLX. A note for those reading, and considering visiting. You should go. Just please, don't be rude. COVID-19 has really strained everyone - our server admitted that someone had just been really rude and that it wasn't abnormal this year. These servers and wine makers are under incredible levels of stress right now; be kind.
Amazing wine and setting. If you want real wine, not the cheesy, sweet stuff, go here. Beautiful setting and facility. Our tasting server was well versed in wine practices and knowledge. I would highly recommend Sheldrake!
Sheldrake Winery is beautiful and their wines were very interesting to taste. The grounds at this winery are kept up very nice. Our wine host was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Absolutely beautiful place, high end, and pleasant. Wine was impressive. 2019 dry riesling was our favorite; however, we were not disappointed with any of the six wines we tried. Highley recommend.
My wife and I stumbled across this winery and it is now my favorite. The grounds and the location are straight out of a picture book. The wine was wonderful (Pinot Gris) and I hope to get back some day real soon.
Off the beaten path, but worth the visit. This is a great place to come for dry wines. They also had the best dry rose we tasted on this trip. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. After your wine tasting, you can also walk over to the shore of the lake, which is a really nice touch.
Love their varied Rieslings. Some unusual wines only available at winery. Wonderful staff.
Great start to our trip to the Finger Lakes - will be hard to beat! Recommended by a friend and it was wonderful. Beautiful location and wonderful visit with our pups. Wines were delightful, nice and easy, loved the tasting options.
Best views and seating arrangement. Loved looking out to the lake and sipping on some great wine. They also allow dogs and have their own family of pups running around. Would suggest more food options and also more staff as it gets busy on the weekend and service is not as efficient.
Shout out to James - he was one of the most friendly and helpful winery staff we encountered and the reason we had such a great experience at Sheldrake!
I can’t think of another winery that knocked every single wine out of the park. The Pinot Gris was incredible if you like whites. We had to tear ourselves away, but not before we bought 4 bottles!
We had a fantastic tasting. The Dry Red was the star, but by far one of the best selections of wines we've had on the East Coast.
Very knowledgeable staff. Great atmosphere and selection. Reminds me a lot of California style wineries. One of the only places if not the only place with ice wine around Cayuga Lake and it is to DIE for. Pours are bigger than other wineries I visited. Really great place!
Loved the Chardonnay, Rose and Gamay Noir. Nice air conditioned tasting room. We visited 6 finger lake wineries and this was in my top 2. (Thirsty Owl was the other). We went here twice on our visit, once by car and once by boat. Free boat docking. We ate outside on their patio. Its bring your own picnic food. The staff is younger and trendy and can come off as snooty at first but they are nicer when you engage.
Fantastic winery off of Cayuga Lake. Less crowded and a bit more off the beaten path than the Seneca Lake Wine trail, and the make one of the best dry rose in the region, and probably the best ice wine. Try the 2014 wild fermentation ice Riesling before it's gone. Pricey but incredibly unique.
The dry Riesling is superb, as is the rose and the ice wine. Their offering left us needing to take home almost a whole case of wine. This was out last stop of the wine trail trip and was well saved as one of the very best. Can;t wait to visit them again.
This winery has a nice selection of wines. We did not have reservations for a party of 9 but they were very welcoming and offered their tables under a tent. Very friendly. We will be back for sure
One of our favorite wineries in the Finger Lakes! Extremely friendly staff and AMAZING wines. We joined the wine club and the benefits certainly outweigh the cost of the club!!!!!!! Do yourself the favor, go sample and if you like, join their wine club for deals, tastings, newsletters AND shipments of their superb wine.
Wine: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Food: n/a Service: 5/5 Great views of the lake across the street, and great wines—definitely top 10 in the FLX. Everyone in our party found something they liked. The red wine drinker in our group loved the Cab Franc's pepper and raspberry notes; the wine newbie in our group enjoyed the 12 year old iced resiling; the white wine drinker enjoyed the floral notes of the muscat; and the wine pros loved the fruit and floral notes of the dry wild resiling. Our 2 year old daughter loved playing in the grass field next door; it was surprisingly family friendly!
A beautiful stop on Cayuga. Great service, and especially great wine. Our personal favorites being the Cab Franc and Merlot. Rieslings all around are awesome. Definitely coming back.
This was our first stop of the day. We enjoyed our visit and the wines we each sampled. View of the lake was wonderful
Absolutely amazing selection and staff was very warming and welcoming! Will definitely be going again.the winery located in best location in cayuga lake.
Great winery with a diverse choice of wines. While not on some of the Finger Lake winery tourist type maps, this winery is one of the best you will find in any part of the wine areas in New York. Located on the Western shore of Cayuga Lake, Sheldrake Point Winery is the real deal in chateau style wine making. They grow the grapes right here. They have a great mix of varietals and an extensive tasting selection. Have a group, no problem. Seating is available both inside and out. They have older, Library, selections for both tasting and purchase. Try their Gamay Noirs for something quite different than the usual white wine choices everywhere else. Of course they have exceptional Reisling wines in a sweetness or dryness that will delight your senses so, you are covered in the "usual" choices available all over the Finger Lakes. Want a hearty red? You can get a very good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and a meritage too. Their largest selling wine is a Rose' in case you want some cool looking wine for your next party. Lots to like about this place and I'm very sure you too will both like your visit and then look forward to coming back for more.
Beautiful setting, great wines, and Sam made our tasting a really enjoyable experience! The “aromatic flight” was perfect for a hot summer day.
Country club style facility and picturesque lake view. On lake and isolated. Impressive dry rosé. The best flat bread I have had by far (prosciutto, fig, honey)…possibly a top 5 food I have tasted in general. Worth a long drive to experience.
We are sitting at home in PA and opened a bottle of Gewurztraminer from Sheldrake wondering why we bought this. We both love dry reds, and dislike whites. However, one sip and we remember why we bought multiple bottles while visiting a few monthe ago. This is absolutely delicious!
I am very happy being a wine club member and frequent visitor at Sheldrake. Their wine is consistently excellent, particularly their library wines. I brought a group of friends for a private library tasting with Sam, and he was awesome. My friends were very impressed, and they felt extremely special! There is clearly so much time, attention, and detail put into their craft while also educating visitors about their process. Also shout out to Mia, the wine club manager - she is always so organized, thoughtful, and professional. It is a pleasure to work with her on a regular basis.
Loved this winery! Sitting either inside or outside gives you a water view, and their wine options have both quality and variety. The 2020 Reserve Meritage, the 2015 Gamay Noir, and the 2023 Dry Reisling are three to try.
I’m the designated driver. Love a winery that we can both enjoy. This place had some nice food items, a variety of regionally-produced beverages, beautiful views, and comfortable tables to sit at. Service with a smile. Truly enjoyed it.
I want to stay here overnight and enjoy everything they have to offer! They even have a small lake area they own right across the street. The seats along the hillside facing the water is perfect for relaxing after a drink and sunbathing, and then coming back out again at night to watch the stars. They did flights here and they did them fast!! Just the way I like it. They has some really good refreshing drinks in the menu. I know I'll be back!
I wasn't sure what to think, pulling in and seeing a tour bus. But my concerns were allayed once we were in the tasting room. Anna was very welcoming and offered us a lot of tips for the rest of our stay. The Gewürztraminer was excellent. There Riesling was really nice, and the Merlot was a great example of cool climate Merlot.
We've stayed down the road from this winery for a few years. It is a great place to visit, enjoy the surroundings, and enjoy some great wine. They even have an area near their dock where you can enjoy the wine while throwing stones in the water.
Highly knowledgeable and helpful staff!!!! They were able to help me out with my wine-pairing needs! The wine community is so amazing in the finger lakes area! They really look after one another. Sheldrake staff are more than happy to recommend additional wineries in the area, if you're interested in particular wines or if you're just interested in what other places have to offer! There are several wineries in the area, such as Hosmer winery! Beautiful grounds!!!! It's a very peaceful and tranquil environment.
We went to the vintage tasting room and had a lovely time! The vintage tasting room smells like oak and freshly painted walls. We had a bevy of vintage red and white wines, all of which were very delicious including the Cabernet Franc. One highlight, The amazing Adirondack chairs which are a great community meeting point for ideas and conversation and provided a beautiful respite to view Cayuga Lake.
Wine club member. Pick up party today! Great food and wine. Excellent customer service. Sam and Shawn pouring were great. Mia coordinating the event, spot on as always.
This is a winery that excels in their white wines. Staff. Amazing Atmosphere. Welcoming and pleasant. They offer a sit down tasting vs pour as you go. A much appreciated approach to wine tasting. We left with some bottles of wine. Wonderful gardens on property.
Nice location on the side of the lake. Plenty of different options of wine. Very friendly server who was a college student at IC. Love the idea of doing the wine trail on the lake side and going by boat. They have their own dock clearly marked. Worth the trip off the official trail.
I came here with a friend on a slow Sunday afternoon in the middle of winter. We had low expectations because we knew it isn't prime time of year for flx wineries. Our expectations were exceeded tenfold with the hosipality of Sam! We had a great tasting that was informative, easy going, delicious and personable. We highly recommend visiting here!
Came in here with no plan/ reservations/ expectations and had an amazing time. Beautiful meadow with sunflowers and a view of the lake. Lovely people working here. We got a table outside for wine tasting and their charcuterie collection was also great. Really well priced. Great wines
Yes you needed reservations but I called as we were on our way and they had room for two of us to do some tastings. It was a really nice experience. We were able to do a bunch of different flights and then individual half glasses if we wanted to try something else. They have a really nice variety of dry, off dry, semi-sweet sweet etc. Even some really unique wines. Like their late harvest cab franc! Very nice winery!
We aren't from the FLX area but we do make the trip multiple times a year. On almost every visit one of our first stops (before we even get to our accommodations) is at Sheldrake. The wine is great and the staff is so friendly and accommodating that we find Sheldrake always puts in a perfect vacay state of mind. As wine club members, we've attended a couple special events, and again, their unpretentious "let's all have a great time" attitude has made some of their unique events some of our favorite FLX memories. The Daves and Perry (congrats on the new gig, Perry!) have done a wonderful job of creating wines that truly reflect and leverage the region's terroir and, shall we say "unique" climate conditions. Their entire list - reds, whites, roses and sparkling wines - are beautifully made and serve as excellent representations of their respective varietals. My only warning would be expect to stay longer than you planned, as they have created such an inviting vibe, you won't want to leave.
One of my favorite places on the wine trail (I’m biased because I know the amazing wine maker!), and the staff is always consistently kind and engaged. The wine is consistently lovely and the space is aesthetically pleasing. Its’s always a great place to visit and this time it was for #Galentines weekend ❤️🍷
Valentines Day Dinner! It was a bit behind but the food more than made up for it. Great experience, will definitely be back
Sheldrake Point Winery was an awesome stop! We enjoyed French Dip sandwiches for lunch and it was truly the best French Dip I’ve had ever! We loved several wines but the “Bubbles” was our favorite. Incredible views of both the vineyard and Cayuga Lake. We’ll definitely recommend this special place, with a short, pretty walk down by the historic Driftwood Inn.
Highest accolades for the hospitality plus customer service and for the delicious, beautifully presented food delivered to us under the patio tent. I chose Sheldrake Point Winery for my small birthday gathering celebration because I already knew the setting overlooking Cayuga Lake is spectacular, as is the estate grown and made wine. The winery is under new ownership and hasn't missed a beat. The team impressed us and warmed my heart. They treated us all so well! Best decision to celebrate with the fine wines and staff at Sheldrake!
Fantastic winery. Has some of the highest quality wines in the area and for pretty reasonable prices. Can't wait to come back when the weather is nicer. Also the staff were so nice and friendly. They came back frequently to check in on us and kept the place clean and tidy. Really loved our visit! Update from prior review - we came back a year later and got to enjoy the patio and view and again, we had a fantastic time. This winery is a must to visit!!
When asked what had brought us to the Finger Lakes, we said it was to taste the regional wines! Sheldrake Point Winery represents the region nicely. Their friendly tasting room staff made our visit delightful, and the case of wine we bought kept the magic going over several more weeks. We look forward to ordering a case to share with my parents over the winter holidays.
Sheldrake Pointe Winery was the perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner. Nestled in a picturesque vineyard setting, the winery offered both stunning views and a delightful culinary experience. The staff at Sheldrake were incredibly professional and helpful, ensuring that every aspect of our event went smoothly. The wine was great and they were able to make a menu for us using their services so that we didn't have to hire an outside caterer. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed yet refined atmosphere, making it the perfect kickoff to our wedding festivities. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to gather and celebrate with our closest friends and family before the big day photos by @jonamiguelphotography
I'd call this place a positive experience. For one, it's a beautiful and welcoming place. The staff is friendly, attentive, and informative. Their wines are dry by natural, so that almost gave me pause because I like sweet wines primarily. The smoothness of most of the wines really surprised me though. My husband and I ended up taking a few home too! We've got a lot more wineries to visit among the Finger Lakes, but this is one to keep on the list to revisit.
We did the Vintage Room tasting- it was wonderful! The room was cozy with beautiful arrangement. The wines were good as well! fantastic service and food (I loved the cheese and homemade jam!). We had a very nice conversation with the staff who helped us with the tasting. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend the vintage tasting experience!
This winery isn’t conveniently located along Rt 89 but is nested in down next to lake..like literally a stone throws away. It sets itself apart from the other wineries alone just based on scenery and proximity to the very lake that defines the region from which wineries in located(The Cayuga). Tasting room has nice clean crisp architecture that reminds one of a country club boathouse. Use of natural lighting inside is beautiful and presents well the escape room like spaciousness of the multiple spaces. Two tasting bars, outdoor space with pergola all is a great formula for an awesome experience. Our wine room attendant was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great outward personality. This was a 2nd stop for us coming out of Ithaca and was a wonderful experience all around.
I found Sheldrake Point Resling at a Pennsylvania State Liquor Store, Philadelphia. Since I spent all of my childhood summers at our Cayuga Lake cottage not far from Sheldrake Point, I had to buy a bottle to try. Seriously didn't have high expectations for a New York State wine, but was delighted. It was fabulous. Bought a few more to share with friends. Thanks, keep it coming. Love the label by the way.
The Sheldrake Winery was the 4th stop on our tour. The views were wonderful. The staff was so kind and helpful. My husband and I both really enjoyed the dry rosė and the pino grisio. We didn't leave with any bottles but the flights were nice. We enjoyed the dry flight and reisling flight. I would recommend stopping if you are in the area.
Very pleasant winery with some very nice wines. The staff were attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. The sparkling wines were especially good. Enjoying the 2023 Blanc de Cabernet Franc as I'm writing this.
Enjoyed a nice afternoon sitting outside doing a lovely dry white wine tasting. You get a free Reisling bubbles glass to start & then you pick the rest! Loved the wine glasses the wine was served in. The gentlemen serving us were very nice & kept checking on us. We bought additional glasses & sat outside in the Adirondack chairs looking at the view - very nice!!
Unimpressed. It was our second time there (two years in a row) and same each time. Wines are ok but the experience is impersonal and they’re trying to be more upscale than they live up to. I suggest you try some other wineries.
It's near the lake, not on the lake. The grounds are pretty. Plenty of parking. Snacks and cheese available. They don't actually do tastings, or flights, you just buy multiple half glasses ... so each is individually priced per wine. It's not ridiculous but you don't get the value of a tasting as compared to other places. The staff that helped us had a friend walk in and was very distracted there after. The guy out front was not very friendly. Didn't like the service. I drink primarily red wine, this place did have good reds.
The venue is absolutely beautiful. The wines are really good. People are friendly and helpful. The tasting room smells like sewer. Almost unbearable.
We came in for a wine tasting and some lunch. The view is really nice from the lawn. The wine was not for us, the service was in full-on zombie mode, and the food was disappointing to say the least. On the upside, the food took so long they took off a sandwich from the bill. Giving an extra star for that effort.
Came to the winery via boat. The dock is big, with ample boat parking. We were unfortunately turned away for two reasons, both covid-19 related. During covid they take reservations only, and I also had my dog. Dogs are usually allowed on premise outdoors but not during covid. I can not speak to food, wine or service.
Good wine. Great ice wine. But pretty generic experience. I was the only one there tasting and still got no info on the wine, vineyard, wines....just sat there by myself.
Not worth my time. I did not enjoy either the service or the wine. Even though it wasn’t very busy, the staff seemed overwhelmed. We waited to be seated, and received no information about the wines we chose to taste (which were more expensive and unpalatable than several other wineries I visited this week). Then we needed to hunt down a server, so we could pay and leave.
This place was disappointing… we waited about 5 mins to get served and almost over an hour for a pretzel. We were really excited to come but then were insanely disappointed. Kind people who work there though
We sat inside for a wine tasting. In retrospect, we wish we had sat outside. It seemed very formal inside. The tasting itself was disappointing. Our server simply took our sheets that indicated our wine choices. He then returned with the wines but took absoluteky no time to explain anything about the wines. He was pleasant but wholly uninformative. The wines were okay but nothing remarkable. At $15 per person for a wine tasting, it was so not worth it, based on the above. We won't be back. As an aside, we also went to Thirsty Owl. It was $5 per person and the server was far more informative ... as one would expect at a wine tasting.
The outside of the winery was very nice! However, when we entered, no one greeted us for at least five minutes and they weren’t super busy. We were seated and made our choices and all four of us chose different wines or taste. The person brought the wines to our table and didn’t even tell us which order to drink them in and didn’t tell us anything about the wines. I am not a super picky wine drinker, but I was only able to finish one of the wines as they all tasted bad to me. My friends each left at least one or two and didn’t enjoy their wines either. For a $15 tasting, SO not worth it!
Apparently the rave reviews of the wines has gone to their heads and now they open when they feel like it. After driving through a snowstorm over icy-slick roads to get to this out of the way place, they were closed. No notice, nothing on,the voice mail. Yrs, we came during "open" hours, btw. Screw it-- we went to other wineries that were open.
Well, I have always loved their wine. However, i had a firmly below mid experience at this institution. The front manager lady did not let us sit inside even though it was almost below freezing and almost snowing outside (yes, it gets very cold in May still). As a result, half of us felt like we got frostbite. Do not come here. Unlucky.
We were treated rudely and the server was unwilling to answer basic questions about the wine. Aren’t these places are here for the purpose of promoting their wine? We left without tasting and will not return.
First time at this establishment and we left really disappointed. Scenery was beautiful but service and food was poor. Took about 15 minutes to bring the flight out. Food was brought out prepackaged, box of crackers were all crushed inside, and nothing supplied to open packages or slice the cheese products. Mentioned it to staff and got a snotty response. We won’t be back.
I was with the aforementioned party of seven you did not welcome a few hours ago. We are a group of adults who happily spent the day touring wineries, but our stop at your winery was very much the low point. More to the point, and why I’m writing, is that I was not feeling well when we stopped at your winery. My friends were waiting for me to use the ladies room, splash some water on my face, and rejoin them so we could leave, since you couldn’t offer us a tasting. During the time they were waiting for me, you urged them to step outside and made them feel unwelcome, including my husband who wanted to make sure I was okay. You did not ask and instead of welcoming us in and working to find a way to accommodate a polite group of adults, you shooed us away. Why on earth would I ever come back to give you “another try”? Life is too short to waste on unwelcoming establishments.
Disgusting way to mock the plight of many immigrant workers who keep the vineyards and grapes moving along. Have more integrity, respect and compassion. We wouldn’t have wine without immigrants. Full stop. If you support sheldrake you support the current administration and the actions that they are committing against the very backbone of the wine industry.
