My mom and I wanted to try something new for lunch and ended up at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. We had the barbecue rib plate. It came with 4 fat, juicy ribs, and 2 sides. My mom and I tapped out after 2 ribs. Ono no!
I had to try Dickey’s BBQ pulled pork after seeing it was ranked the best pulled pork sandwich in the country by Eat This, Not That — and wow, they weren’t kidding. The meat was super tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. The sauce hit perfectly, and the bun held up like a champ. Totally lived up to the hype. I’m already planning my next trip back
This was my first time here. Ordered 2 meat plate with okra. Everything was great, the okra gets 10 stars. Very proud of the young adults who were all professional. Jimmy the owner checked on us after eating to ensure bith our food and service was great. Will definitely return.
The Shop is open! Got a chance to speak with the new owner. Everyone there is super friendly and the food service is fast and fresh. They have multiple beverage options & they also offer Military discounts. Highly recommend!
Great place! Reminds us of home! Great customer service!! Great prices for smoked BBQ! Get your smoked turkeys and ham at Thanksgiving! Been eating at dickeys chain for 20+yrs!
Tonight was our first time enjoying dinner at dickeys bbq since moving to Hawaii hands down best bbq on island lots of flavor. The owner was very involved in the restaurant talking to customers and helping on the floor which shows a lot about his character we will for sure be coming back!!
Wow! I tried the brisket and it is the best I've ever had. You can get it sliced which is more lean, or chopped which provides more fat. I tried the lean and it was delicious and not dry. I had the beans and potato casserol as sides and each one was delicious. Bar b q sauce is tasty and I didnt use much because the meat is tasty and not dry. I also had the chicken as a 2nd meat of the 2 meat platter. It also was surprisingly delicous, not dry, and I also didn't use much bar b q sauce because I wanted to savor the taste of the meat. I will be back!
I've lived in Kapolei now for awhile and when Dickeys opened up originally I was very excited. Being from NC and living in TX for two years I know BBQ. We'll the original place was not on point and we eventually stopped going. Instead we would travel to Hawaii Kai 808 Texas BBQ to get our BBQ fix. We'll great news Dickeys is under new ownership. Jimmy Moore is the new owner and he has taken over and is on point. We stopped in to try it out tonigh and we were not disappointed. If you are wanted the best brisket BBQ or southern style BBQ you gotta go. Tell Jimmy Dimple D aka Darryl sent ya!!
The brisket and spicy bbq sauce was delicious along with the fried okra! I would recommend both. My husband also had the ribs and enjoyed them, and we shared a baked potato (which was giant but size I of the potato is of course dependent on what’s available to them). I really do think that this is great bbq restaurant for Hawai’i. The service was also amazing and it was wonderful to learn that it’s run and operated by a local family.
Absolutely great barbecue. The brisket was moist and delicious. The pulled pork was really good. I enjoyed the sweet and regular barbecue sauce too! The hand cut fries were fresh and delicious. The service was great. The nice young ladies taking our order and serving us were so kind and friendly to talk to. I highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back.
YES Dickey's is back and better than ever! The staff were friendly and food was Amazing! I ordered the half rack rib plate and the ribs were THICC and juicy. I couldn't decide which of the 8 bbq sauces to get so I bought extra for $0.50 each to try three of them (Original was my favorite). If dining in they have a nice open and clean dinning area. I saw online on sunday kids eat free with an adult plate so will be back then. So grateful to have an amazing Texas BBQ place on the west side again!
Great service with friendly ladies, but the food is mid! Obviously you're in Hawaii, so you're not going to get legit Texas BBQ status... and the price for what it is, kinda expensive.. But again, not bad for Hawaii. Someone from Texas would probably get mad, though. My favorite meat cut was the brisket. Their chicken is really moist and delicious (Friend ordered it.) Had beans as a side, it was really sweet. My other side was some mashed potatoes with tastey white gravy. Overall, it was okay.
Great Atmosphere, but the Details Need Sharpening I recently visited and was immediately impressed by the outstanding customer service. As a former Houstonian, I felt an instant connection with the staff—your team truly understands hospitality. The ambiance is wonderful and homey; it’s exactly the kind of place I enjoy spending time in. I love that you have outdoor dining. However, there are a few "devil's in the detail" moments regarding the food execution: The Fries: You have the right cut, but they lacked the heat and "crunch" factor. A good fry needs to be served hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I’d recommend a bolder salt profile or even a Cajun seasoning option (similar to the Five Guys style). The Heat Level: The "spicy" BBQ sauce tasted great, but lacked the advertised kick. If it’s labeled spicy, it needs to deliver on that promise. The Slider: Using a hinged half-cut hotdog bun doesn't quite hit the mark for a slider. Transitioning to a high-quality brioche slider bun would significantly elevate the dish. Presentation: I appreciated the grilled buns—that’s a great touch for flavor. However, the presentation was a bit messy. Using a spatula to plate the buns would prevent the juices (and glove marks) from transferring to the top of the bun. BBQ is messy to eat, but it should look clean when served. I’ll definitely be back, as the foundation is there. I look forward to seeing these small adjustments on my next visit.
Came in for a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw a side of pork ribs. Super tender and flavorful. I had it with a spicy BBQ sauce, but I did wish they had other types of sauces like Eastern North Carolina vinegar, South Carolina Mustard, etc. It is a little pricey since it's slow cooked quality meat. Will definitely be coming back. I did see an area that looked to be a beer tap, but I'm not sure if they still serve alcohol at this location.
Sorry to report but when customers walk in and they are not greeted and just sit there, you will loose business based off the vibe alone. Brisket was dry. 3rd time now. Pulled pork, not bad! Texas toast was a barely toasted pc of white bread. (Sauces saved the day). Where's the BBQ Love.? AC is off in the 90* dining room...🥺 I really want this time for Dickies Kapolei to succeed but it's not looking good... If it continues, I believe this go around will result in another closing. Guess we will see. 😳
This is how a Sunday at 4pm went for the only Dickey’s on the island. Go to counter to order, eye contact made with both young people working the line. So, oh I guess I order at the other young person at the cash register. Nope. Sends me back to line. 3 of the 6 meat choices are unavailable. Cool I’ll take the one that’s $1.25 more I guess. Sit at table. Where’s the BBQ at a BBQ place? Who knows. Dude brings us our little sandwiches. “Is there BBQ?” Oh you need BBQ? Cool guess they keep it in itty bitty cups behind the counter for some reason. Sweet Tea? Nope, gone. Just to make it seem ironically bad, the restroom door says pull handle when it’s clearly a push to open situation. But, Hey! At least I go two free big yellow cups.
The brisket was flavorless, the pork ribs were rubbery almost like chewy beef jerkey. The only thing that had flavor was the fries & that's because I put salt on them. The food must be pretty bad. I saw an employee walk in and sit down to eat food from a different restaurant.
This has to has to be the last time I order from here. I understand that policies change, management changes, menu items change, but certain things is just a no go imo. They used to actually give large sides when you order the large meal packs, there were a lot more options before. They used to give you as much sauce as you wanted, now they give you one, and charge you for the rest. The sauce that we got was nasty, it just tastes like cinnamon or something, it doesn't taste like BBQ sauce at all. The meats are fine, they're not hot, but what can you do when ordering out. They forgot my Texas toast, the sides say it's supposed to be large, but they came very small. Also assorted chips as a side, is ONE BAG, ONE SMALL BAG!! 😡 The Mac and cheese is fine, the fries taste good, but they're cold. Overall I'm very disappointed by how the quality of their service has dropped, especially how expensive everything is. I understand inflation and all that jazz, which is why I still attempted to order from here, but I honestly think this is the absolute last time. If you want brisket go to Ala Moana.
this place is BOOTY. Why are we out of food 3 hours prior to closing?? No baked potatoes and the last one there is COLD. Oh and you know what else was cold? The chili I had, isn’t chili supposed to be warm? No it was cold, my fries were hot and my chili was near frozen. Y’all got such a fancy soda machine for it to take forever to work and half the soda options to be out. Not to mention what is the interior like it seems as if it’s subway but why do you order at such an odd spot? Fries taste like wingstop, identically like wingstop. Worst restaurant I’ve been to in Hawaii
1st time here and im mad even writing this while thinking about it. Today I ordered to go And it was soo bad. For 16$ i couldve made chili dogs thats wayy better then this💯 i ordered the loaded potatoe with brisket and it’s basically like I just ate a potato wit cheese but no meet. Becuhz Literally 85% of the supposedly “Brisket” was PURE FAT they don’t trim fat at all. And the 15% of “Brisket meat” that I did have was tuff and no flavor at all I literally had to go buy other food right after I wasted my money here..
