Large beer selection and it's usually not too crowded, which is nice since you can actually have conversations here and not be shouting. Trivia nights on Tuesdays are fun.

Great place to watch sports, play pool, and drink beer. Great staff! Friendly customers.

Irish sports car that doesn't mind making you an Irish coffee. Great bar food and friendly atmosphere. Great place for tourists.

Fantastic local pub in the heart of the revitalized Haight. Friendly and knowledgeable staff (remember to say please and thank you for even better service!) with hundreds of beer choices. Open early for European football, it is a traveller's dream!

L
Luke Lancaster

Great trivia night and pretty good prices. The bartender made a mistake and ran my friend's card on someone else's tab but the place was jammed and it seemed like it was an honest mistake. Good on him though, he reimbursed my friend in cash for the price of the other person's tab on the spot and gave our whole table a free round of drinks to make up for the mistake. As you might expect of this area, parking is absolutely impossible. Plan to arrive early to try and hunt down a free space somewhere relatively close by.

Fantastic pub. Great food. Great service. Danny was our server and he's a legend!

Best place to watch English Football, Fans of SkyBet Championship, such as I, or Premier League, wait no further! If it;s on, they'll sort the volume! Best array of beer I that comes to mind for me in this city, other than Tommy Joe's. Derrick and the rest of the staff are aces, Live, Laugh, and learn about great new beers that you may want to keep drinking over the rainbow!

S

Went for beers and trivia and had a fantastic time. Servers were great and calm despite the crowd. Oh, and finished 4th with a very small team. 😎

Casual bar with fast service, great drinks, and good food. I come here all the time to watch sports, and this place is the perfect mix between energetic and laid back for that. They treat their customers well, and I would continue coming back here again.

Very cool place in a very cool neighborhood. Laid-back vibes and atmosphere. We had some beers and the nachos which were very good.

Perfect SF bar. Lots of space throughout, yummy foods like nachos and wings, cool bartenders, easy and quick service. All walks of life welcome as long as you're not rude. Came here with some friends since we all got laid off. Always worth the stop no matter if you're in the neighborhood.

Only tried the fries so cant speak much on the food this time around although the fries were good. Bartender was quick and responsive to the group of people around the bar so didn't wait long for a beer. Atmosphere was awesome when groups link up for games and it was a great time with plenty of TV's and tables to sit at.

Food was good. Bartender attentive to all patrons. Only one person interrupted my lunch. Overall a pleasant experience.

Best pub food and great service. 💯🍻⭐️ Santos, James, and Killian are the best bartenders. They know how to pour a Guinness.

Love it for great pub experience! Solo and found pretty good assortment to talk with. Did the Philly and it was pretty tasty, but needed a smaller roll or more filling in the one they use. Quick toasting of the roll in oven or on flattop would also help.

R

Came across this bar by chance. Was hungry and thirsty so thought I would give it a try not expecting it to be anything great. To my surprise the Guinness was decent and the food was excellent. Well worth a visit

This is my favorite local bar! My friend and I come here 1-2 times a week. The bartenders are all great and the food is decent. Nice chill spot to watch sports and they have a really fun trivia night on Thursdays.

Was out visiting 710 Ashbury and mother nature redirected me to this gem of a place! Just the kind of local vibe one could hope for and the bartender on duty, James, was above and beyond in what easily should've been just another random encounter. If you're in the area, definitely recommend stopping in for a drink or even the world famous wings, which includes the delicious Kezar Buffalo Wings that are tested and approved!

P

Great place, try the new pizza offers, made in a classic oven. Burgers, ribs, and much more. I enjoy the tap beer, but they supply many options. Pool tables, foosball, and Mrs PAC man

Had food and a few drinks here when looking around Haight the other day. The chicken wings and chicken strips were delicious. The guy behind the bar was nice and polite and made it a nice relaxed atmosphere while we sat at the bar. Didn't get his name, slim fella with a baseball cap. Liked this bar. Would visit again.

This is a bar where you want to be a regular. I come here once a week maybe. I came in after a breakup and was just staring at the wall feeling numb. James walked over and said I think you need this, and gave me a free shot. That’s the reward for being a regular here. Try the mozzarella sticks they are bomb. They give me diarrhea but whatever. If there’s a big game on I wanna watch I come here.

I've been here several times but came here recently for Sunday Football lunch/drinks with some friends. The place was packed but our waitress Veronica did a terrific job of waiting on us along with what seemed like 20 other tables. Great service, great beer and cocktail selection and everything our table ordered was delicious. We will be back for Sunday Football sure!

Food was excellent. The vibe was excellent. We got the deep fried pickles and the chicken club. Both were amazing. The deep-fried pickles were like whole slices and wedges of pickles that were fried very yummy. We also ordered the chicken club, which had bacon on it avocado all kinds of good stuff very juicy cook chicken was cooked just right.

Mad Dog in the Fog is an outstanding Irish bar and, without exaggeration, my favorite place to go. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, lively, and unmistakably authentic - the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable. The food is excellent, especially the wood-fired pizza, which is packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Everything on the menu feels well thought out and consistently satisfying. On top of that, there’s a great selection of beer and alcohol, making it easy to find something you’ll enjoy no matter your taste. What truly sets this place apart is the staff - always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to see you. That combination of great food, quality drinks, and an incredible atmosphere makes Mad Dog in the Fog a place I keep coming back to. If you’re looking for a true Irish pub experience in San Francisco, this spot is a must.

Great visit..! The Guinness was great.. Irish breakfast, great.. plus the lovely lady at the bar is awesome..! They also have a load of football (read soccer for Americans) scarves.. couldn't believe there was one from Matlock.. random small town in Derbyshire..

A fun place to hang out with friends with good music, delicious food, and reasonably priced food. This place also has good open window seating for people watching on Haight Street. The Bammer and Mash was delicious. Both my best friend and I tried it and have both been to London and we said the food here is even better. The corn digs were small but bulky and super filling. I would recommend them, also.

Haight Ashbury's BEST hidden gem bar. The menu is surprisingly good too. Ample of seating and pool tables at the far end. Used to be a favourite lower haight spot. Great for a DAYTIME or evening hangout during / after the Haight Ashbury stroll. On the menu - the tortilla chicken soup was outstanding, service is great and bartender JAMES makes it a point to remember you even if it gets busy - that's the kind of place you wanna go back to. Mad Dog's the type of place that blends an afternoon well into the evening whilst hanging out with friends on a SAT/SUN or any game night. A MUST visit Height Ashbury experience. 5 STARS

We'll be hitting up the Mad Dog for some bangers as soon as we adjust the Whipply Pimpertickler on Goosebump Charlie's old Draveport Traveler, that way he can use it for something other than a door stop at his place there on the Ashbury. WOW! That Mad Dog restaurant sure can put out some great food, might even day it was Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆

Great sports watching bar with lots of different seating options and diversions: pinball, arcade, billiards, trivia night, etc. Surprisingly good food and menu - probably the best in SF for a sports bar.

I had the best mozzarella sticks of my life here. The breading is light, crunchy and the red sauce pairs perfectly. They also carry IPAs which me and my partner love. A must visit if you are in the area!

Went there to watch Bundesliga on a Saturday morning. The staff was friendly and attentive. I could also play some pool for free, but I'm not sure if that's always the case.

D

Any soccer game you wanna watch, they'll be showing it. Trivia here is great. Show up early though. The Tuesday trivia is the easy one, Thursday is the hard one. No liquor, this place is beer and wine only.

T
Trevor Hill

Come for the pub quiz on Tuesdays and Thursdays or to watch the game, probably the best sports bar in lower haight. Otherwise their draft selection is less than stellar (though they make up for it in bottles and bombers) and the food leaves something to be desired.

S
Sarah D

Casual, divey, great food. If you are lucky enough to get a seat at a booth---then you are going to have a good time! Trivia is fun too. Had the nachos last night and they were delicious!

T
Tim McAndrew

Cool bar in a neighborhood of cool bars. This one is the least offensive. Not to say that any of them are offensive but they all have their quirks. It's your token sports bar in Lower Haight. Went there last weekend to watch some NCAA tourney games. They have an out side seating area and a ton of beers on tap. They also have a table that you could rent out with a bunch of people. You buy a keg of whatever beer you like and you can serve yourself at the table, yes there is a kegerator in the table. This place is cool to get beers on a sunny Saturday.

E
Ellen L

Hard to get a table but when you do, it's great. Food is delicious especially nachos. Great selection of beers on tap. Waiters are hard to come by, just order from the bar.

S
Sherry Li

Doesn't look like it from the outside, but it's actually quite big and roomy on the inside. Plenty of TVs with a very large screen in the back. I like the high table by the window the most. Bartenders are super nice.

J
Judith McAulay

Food and trivia were fun. One glaring omission is they are supposedly and Irish bar with no Irish beers? Not even a single Amber/Nut Brown option that isn’t jacked up with hops? Seems like they have a bit of an identity crisis.

J
Jack Ortner

Simply put: this bar rocks! Everyone knows how phenomenal their beer selection is and I can only confirm their reviews. It is a little more laid back and a lot less smelly than its Lower Haight beer brother, Toronado and there's always more room to feel comfortable. If you are a little lost and needing some direction, the staff is awesome and will have no problem in pointing you in the right direction and recommending some wonderful brews. I always have a great time here!

J
Jan Daniels

Awesome pub, great food! Although alittle confusing as when you go in you don’t know you have to go up to the bar to order your food. Other than that little blip it was fantastic 🙌🏼😀

S
Spencer Staggers-Elmore

The place is a sweet hangout area with nice ambiance and prices that are surprisingly reasonable, drink wise, with price ranging between $20-$22 for shareable options of beer. (approximately enough for a party of 4 ideally, but still amazing.) Would recommend this place to anyone wanting to just chill with a couple of friends on the Haight.

G
Grace Park

Trivia night every Thursday is a good level and very well organized! Categories for the rounds include music, photo identification, current events, and other rotating ones. It gets popular so come early to grab seats! The beer selection is okay, but wouldn't be a major draw. The food is also okay (reglar fries are good, garlic fries are not at all crispy even at first, potato chips are decent). The service is extremely friendly and kind but, it is very slow. I think they have either one or max two servers.

R
Rachel Ceasar

If you want to catch a game in Lower Haight, this place has the most TVs. It’s especially popular with the soccer/real football crowd. A great place to watch the World Cup or an English Premiere League match. Decent selection of beer, a pool table, and outdoor patio make this a well rounded pub.

J

The place to go if you are a local or a visitor who loves sports watching at the bar. We joined the Barça fans for.one of the matches and the mood was great, friendly, fun and welcoming. The menu offers some basic classics, like fish and chips, nothing super fancy but fair quality. Good selection of international beers and drinks. Staff were professional and caring.

K

Mad Dog in the Fog isn’t wildly Irish beyond a few flags, but it’s a cracking spot for daytime drinking and watching sport. Bit rough round the edges, but all the better for it—pool, basketball hoops, and even a piano if you fancy a quick tinkle after a pint. Prices are solid, the crowd’s chilled, and the vibe’s unpretentious fun. Don’t expect glamour—do expect good craic and outrageously tasty loaded nacho fries. Great for a low-key afternoon with mates.

Crispy spicy chicken was bad. It wasn’t spicy at all. Also burger bun was so dry. Disappointed.

I
Ian MacDonald

The food was lackluster and it felt like the bar was understaffed. Despite a large selection of beers it seemed like most of my first choices were unavailable. The service we did receive was friendly but inconsistent and from servers who seemed to have too much to do. We also stayed for trivia night which I found just okay. The format felt slapped together and the scores were hard to follow when announced.

S
Shawn Woodhull

Solid sports bar with good number of TV screens. Decent to above average bar food. Small back patio for smokers / if it's warm out. Bathroom is pretty gnarly.

M
Molly Bierman Ryan

Mad Dog is a pretty solid Irish bar in the lower Haight that has a great trivia night and a lot of TVs for watching the game. Run by *real Irish people*! I have mostly only been here for trivia nights, which are well-done but are perhaps a bit too crowded for my liking (unless you get there like an hour before it starts, you have a hard time getting a booth and end up standing basically on top of others teams). Trivia on Tuesday is slightly less crowded than Thursdays. They also have a table you can reserve that has its own tap built-in, and you can pour your own beer (I think it's unlimited at least until the tap runs out??). Mad Dog pretty laid-back / casual / divey, it is but not run down. They only serve beer / sangria / I think a few types of wine (no hard-A here) and don't take CCs but do have an ATM. I slightly prefer Toronado because it seems to be a little quieter, but this is a fine spot as well.

J
Jeff Hardy

Decent sports bar. Has a decent number of TVs, but seating is limited and poorly planned with 4 large booths that account for 75% of the seating. They now serve food, which is a plus.

J
Jonathan B

Strange "English" bar in San Francisco. Good selection of beers but the "English" authenticity is doubted somewhat by the massive screens showing baseball & ice hockey. Good service.

I ordered fish tacos. The fish was cooked very well. The only problem was that the tortillas were very cold and everything fell off the tortillas.

K

This is a dingy dark bar in lower Haight. Though I expected this, I was unimpressed with the drinks, food and overall atmosphere. I shared a club sandwich with a friend and had a couple glasses of wine. We stumbled in after going to a happy hour, looking for something more casual. This was very casual and just not my scene, there were rips in the upholstery and I felt like the tables were sticky. It did seem to have a couple regulars so I guess its good to some?

M

What was that?! I dont recommend the chicken sandwich. The chicken pounded so thin and so breaded. Ugh. My friends grilled cheese was good. And extra charge is added on for????

Good atmosphere, Barmaid are really nice and it’s a classic Irish pub. Only negative point it has only beers and wines but when we asked for red wine, they proposed us only one. But I recommend this place

I'm originally British, so I love to visit a British style Pub whenever I find one. This certainly looks the part with the bar and seating typical of a city style pub in Britain, though missing the more cozy sitting areas that you might expect in a rural pub. So I was excited, but so disappointed that the only British beers were Smithwicks and Guinness which are of course Irish! Would have loved to see an Old Speckled Hen or Fuller's. I ordered the Shepherd's pie. It was excellent though a long time coming. I haven't marked down the Service because the bar tender was great. There were a couple tables outside on the sidewalk. We sat by the nice large open window overlooking the street.

We stopped in for lunch before heading to Golden Gate Park. There was plenty of seating in the main bar area, as well as a back room with more seating. I got the Mad Dog Burger with bacon with a side salad. It was your basic bar food burger with nothing to write home about. My friend got the Buffalo Wings and they were really good. It came with 10 decent sized wings that were perfectly sauced. This is a good spot if you’re looking for a quick bite and a brew. They also have the games on at the bar.

A bit loud for some intimate conversation. The food is good. The fish and chips is actually a whole side of a fish. Its delicious. The Philly Cheese Steak is very good. The selection of beers and libations is also quite great.

Generic pub. Nothing special. A bit too loud of music for the atmosphere. Draft beer had off flavor, and it shows how they haven't cleaned their keforator beer lines in a while.

Just went in here to get some ice togo and a shot of tequila place was pretty cool they had nice music and lots of seating went to the bar was told they didn’t have togo cups which makes sense but still a little goofy then asked for a shot pulled out my id and was told “i don’t take out of state” which is kinda wild especially in san francisco no one is from here i myself am 22 and i get asking for the id but just refusing because of out of state with just glancing over it kinda feels a little rude and poor service not really super great. i get being wary and turning away one customer isn’t a big deal for them but still what the heck

Horrible service and only beer (a handful of terrible wines). Took 15 min for the bartender to acknowledge me when there were only 6 other people in there! Plenty of other bars on the street with better service and selection. Prices were fair.

I tried the Shepard’s Pie and definitely got sick from it. Would not recommend, I had a very bad night. The service was fine but nothing to call home about.

Mediocre beer, not very friendly.

bros bros bros ordering coors! they have a wonderful beer selection but be prepared to wait and pay allot, i ordered a chimay blue regular size and it was 15.50 and had to wait 30 min so i could give them my money i strongly suggest paying by cash so you are not anchored to this awful establishment

We stopped in for a drink and small bite. Everything was pretty good until we saw a small cockroach crawled up to our table. 🤮 I stopped eating immediately.. If they are in the dinning area they must be in the kitchen.

My recommendation is don't waste your time with this place. Awful service.

Visiting from out of town. Googled the place, thought it would be good. Walked in w my wife and son at 4:30 on a Monday; sat down at a table. 10 mins later, no-one acknowledged us. So we finally go and stand by the counter to place an order. The bartender was at the other end of the bar, carrying on a conversation; the 3 of us are standing there for 10 more minutes, and STILL not even an acknowledgement. We turned and walked out, and passed her on the way out. And she STILL has not as much as acknowledged that we were there. Zero motivation to do business with an establishment that won't as much as acknowledge our presence, let alone be thankful that we walked in the door. Currently down the street at Flippin Burgers; they acknowledged us when we walked in, and we are now waiting on our meal.

This bar smells bad and the glassware is dirty. If you do go I suggest drinking anything from a straw. Ecolab should be called to change the chemicals in the dishwashers, or is this all done by hand. With so many bars in SF and on Haight to choose from it is your choice to accept the mediocre conditions displayed here. Just gross

my boyfriend and i are visiting SF from North Carolina this weekend and he went here to grab me a cup of ice for a soda I had back at our AirBnB and also a shot for himself (he is 22, I am 23). when he showed the bartender his ID (a valid North Carolina one), they replied with “this is an out of state ID” and “i’ve been getting too many fakes recently”. not only did the bartender not serve him because he doesn’t “do out of state IDs”, but failed to do any other authentication of the ID (like scanning it!!! hello!!??). anyway, i guess don’t go here if you’re from anywhere other than California unless you want to interact with a ridiculously rude bartender.

Anyone with osteoporosis or who plans to use their kneecaps for a while steer clear. My friend slipped in a spill and the staff just gaslit her when she shared her concern instead of mopping it up. Asked for the manager’s number and they gave us the bartender’s number. Weird staff, bad vibes

I really like the fried pickles. I came here during the day and the server was so nice and friendly. I came here at night and the short Hispanic guy behind the bar working at night was SO RUDE. Here’s our interaction: Me: Do you take Apple Pay? He nods yes and comes over with the machine for it. I tell him: um excuse me the machine isn’t working for it. The tap to pay section is not lighting up either. Him: he rolled his eyes and said “it works. U don’t carry your card around? “ I said: no. I was just at the grocery store next door I don’t carry my cards around because I use tap to pay everywhere. He then said”people before you just used it. Like 3 mins ago. Actually someone right before you used it you were right behind them.” And then he pointed at the machine again and didn’t bother to try to look at it or help. He acted like I was trying to get free food or get away with not paying for it. I then repeated “the machine is not working.” He then just shook his head at me like I was an inconvenience and annoying to him, and got the tall white guy behind the bar to help me instead. This guy was SO much nicer and patient and more understanding he tried troubleshooting with me but it didn’t work since it was the machine’s flaw. I ended up having to walk home to get my cards. But I’m not sure why the first guy was so rude to me.

Spot is great, decent service, but they sell 12oz draft beers at full price. You do not get a full pint when purchasing a draft beer. It is a 12oz glass. Didn't realize until we got a can and poured it in...what do you know

At first, I thought I might've just been overreacting, but after reading other reviews, I realized I wasn't alone. The bartender, who looked unwell, ignored my girlfriend and me for over 10 minutes. We eventually had to flag down another server just to place our order. When the drinks finally came out, they took much longer than expected. Overall, not a great experience

I was credit card frauded here, as were the other 2 people I was with. Receipt was doctored to add an extra $10 to an already fairly generous tip. Also, food looked awful and not anything like you’d get in Ireland. Will have to find somewhere new to watch the football.

I came here today with friends visiting from out of state, and we had planned our entire day around stopping at this bar. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. When we arrived, the bartender repeatedly skipped over us while serving people who came in after we did. When he finally approached, he refused to serve my friend because he claimed his out-of-state ID was fake—without scanning it, checking it properly, or even asking for a second opinion from another staff member. His ID is 100% legitimate, and he uses it regularly when traveling. He even used it to fly in to visit us the day previously. The dismissiveness and lack of professionalism completely killed the vibe of what should have been a fun outing. We ended up leaving and taking our business elsewhere. There are plenty of bars in the area that treat customers with basic respect—unfortunately, this is not one of them. Not coming back.
