I popped into The George for the relaunch and honestly… wow. The refurbishment is absolutely stunning. It still feels like our beloved village pub, but warmer, cosier, and so much more inviting. The new touches are thoughtful without being over the top — it genuinely feels like a place you want to spend an entire evening in. The atmosphere on launch night was incredible. The place was packed (in the best way), the music was brilliant, and the team were so welcoming. The new menu is delicious — the canapés were unreal — and there’s clearly been a lot of care put into both the food and the drinks. Even the small details, like the lighting and décor, make such a difference. It just feels like The George has its spark back. If you haven’t been since the refurb, go. It’s absolutely worth it.

Tucked away in the heart of Hampshire, The George Inn is a quintessential English pub that feels like a warm embrace on a chilly evening. As you step inside, you’re greeted by the crackling of open fires, the heart and soul of this charming establishment. The atmosphere is delightfully old-school, with wooden beams and vintage furnishings. The staff here are nothing short of wonderful, striking the perfect balance between friendly and professional, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Their attentive service adds to the homely vibe, ensuring that your glass is never empty and your spirits are always high. And the food! All locally sourced meats from local farmers and roasts are 10/10. I recommend the steak sandwich to dip in the gravy. A proper old school freehouse!

A treasure of the Hampshire countryside. We cycled leisurely up from Whitchurch via Tufton and Longparish. We had a very friendly welcome upon arrival in this packed traditional pub. Staff were attentive and knew their menu and ales perfectly. On the menu today: partridge (shot locally just a few days earlier). It was delicious! The real ales were great (4 on tap) and so was the local lager. We had to cycle back before sunset, so alas, there was no time to try any puddings. We shall be back! Aside: there are 3 pubs along the route named George. Update Sunday 2023-11-05: still awesome. Superb place for plaice today. Service is fantastic. 5 real ales to choose from. Others know too: reservations a few days in advance are required! 13/7/24: still awesome!

Wow! What a great country pub! 🤩 An open fire blazing away and warm and friendly welcome to us and Chewie the dog made this a pub to definitely come back to. Visited for an early evening meal and ended up spending the rest of the night there playing ‘Who Am I?’ and then ‘Shut the Box’ with Ariane who’d finished her shift and Leanne a local Pre-School manager and regular at The George! Marvellous pub and will definitely be returning the next time I come down to Wiltshire! 😊

Lovely countryside pub in a quiet location, we stopped off here for a drink on the way home from Hungerford. Very friendly & welcoming staff and locals. A good selection of drinks. I tried the Queensbury Jack Session IPA; highly recommend.

Small friendly quaint country pub. Pooped in after a recommendation by a local, I'm  a chauffeur from London  and always looking for a wonderful place to have lunch when away from London, this ticks all the boxes, food all looked good, I had the special, Lamp and mint pie, wonderful. And if your wondering I had a 🍺, alcohol free 😁. Excellent service from everyone.

One of the best pubs I've been to, the staff are so welcoming and friendly just makes you feel like you're a regular patron rather than a newcomer. Great range of food and beer.

Our favourite village pub. Staff are friendly and welcoming. It is cosy and the real fires give a lovely atmosphere. It’s always buzzing whenever you go and it is well supported by locals. Wide range of drinks and food and the “steakwich” yesterday was divine. Thank you all

Called in after a walk on Friday evening. The pub was full before 7pm. A great atmosphere and a good selection of real ales served here. I also hear the pizzas are pretty good. It’s great to see a pub doing well.

We had a delightful evening at the George. We felt so welcomed and looked after as soon as we arrived. The food was superb - simply presented but well above expectations for a pub meal. Lots of guest ales, and the one I had was excellent. Highly recommended.

Everything you would expect from a English country pub loved it, great beer garden out front and back, plenty of tables. We had the beef Sunday roast which was delicious. Our waitress Ellie was probably one of the best waitresses I've had, smily welcoming and attentive. The pub have done well with the new restrictions in place and followed all the guidelines. Highly recommend a stop here if you're in the area.

The George Inn at Vernham is a fantastic country pub. We are not locals but were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff when we visited for dinner with our dog. The food was very tasty, I had the homemade burger which was chunky & Juicy. My wife had the lamb shank which was a very generous portion, succulent & piping hot. If you go for dessert go for the Crumble it was so good, packed full of Blackberries & Apple with a generous topping. If we are in the area again we will certainly visit the George Inn I encourage you to do the same

Super friendly and helpful staff with some great pub food! Particularly recommend their wood fire traditional pizzas, which are simply a delight and wonderful compliment to the simply and well done pub menu. There are some great walks around, and the George Inn is a great spot for half way stop or for a hearty dinner at the end of the day.

Stopped in for lunch after finding it in Google maps. Pub is in a nice country setting with plenty of parking. There are picnic benches out the front but also a nice beer garden out the back. They had a good ale selection as well as the usual lagers. Food wise I can’t recommend it enough. It’s reasonably priced, big portions and really tasty. Staff are all really friendly and it welcomes dogs. Highly recommended and we’ll definitely be coming back.

It always seems to be sunny when we get here! A gorgeous country pub that really cares about providing good food in a relaxing environment. The staff are great, the building is charming and the food is hearty and satisfying. It's the only place I order a ploughmans lunch as elsewhere they are disappointing by comparison. Oh and Tilly the lab/retriever is lovely.

Absolutely fantastic! There was 4 of us and food was lovely, we had 2 burgers with homemade chips, 1 lamb shank and 1 scampi and homemade chips! Food was outstanding and so tasty!Would recommend this to anyone and everyone! For dessert 2 of us shared the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream and chocolate sauce! OMG this was the best, delicious!

We returned to this traditional English pub for our anniversary, having met there 8 years prior. Great food and plenty of customers for a mid-week lunch is a nod to the landlord, who was super friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back for our next anniversary, if not before!

Trip out for lunch with friends. An excellent country pub with log fires, very friendly and attentive staff with good food and well kept beers. Bowman Swift One and Flacks Double Drop ales were in great condition and very enjoyable. We all chose vegetarian meals that were really well cooked and very tasty all at a reasonable price. Compliments to the chef. Would definitely recommend The George.

Dec 24: Update! My previous experience was so positive that I organised a post Xmas get together with family -- nineteen of us were accommodated in a cosy section of the pub, complete with roaring log burner. Food was excellent, service with a smile and good value. Thank you to the team, we'll find an excuse to visit again! Oct 24: Simply too good! Accommodated some motorcyclists without having a reservation. Lovely place, courteous and attentive service, prompt turnaround of food and excellent quality with reasonable prices.

Loved this place. The staff are so friendly, food is great. Nothing is too much trouble. The villagers are so lucky to have this pub!

The best roast I have eaten in a long time! We had one beef and one chicken roast and the previous week I had the lamb, all of which were outstanding. The food came within 10 minutes of ordering as it was a Sunday one assumes the roasts just need plating. It was hot with plenty of veg variety. All the staff are so friendly and attentive, all in all its a great village pub.

The George Inn is a fairytale come to life! This pub embodies everything you imagine from books and stories. The ambience is nothing short of magical, with open fireplaces adding a cosy, welcoming touch. The staff are exceptional, providing friendly and attentive service that makes you feel right at home. To top it all off, there was a fantastic live band playing in the evening, creating the perfect atmosphere. Even the presence of a friendly dog wandering around added to the charm. An absolutely amazing experience – a must-visit! Five stars all the way!

Spent a lovely few hours with family for a birthday meal. The venue and staff were extremely welcoming and everyone's food was excellent BUT be warned - if you plan to have the pie take a pick-axe because an ordinary knife won't work!!

Great pub location. The staff very welcomeing and happy. Good choice of beers. It is a old pub so has good atmosphere. Didn't have any food...but what I saw it looked good. Also at the time it had live music which was very good and had a great afternoon stay. Will be visiting again

Four old friends, we shared a happy lunch here last Saturday. We sat comfortably inside in the window, well looked after, and each enjoyed our choice, including whitebait and meatballs with spaghetti. It was all excellent.

Went for a Christmas meal with friends. The George is a rusket country pub as you'd imagine with plenty of community atmosphere. Everyone seemend to know each other, lots of laughter and a very friendly vibe. The food was very good quality at a fair price. They do offer table service and are happy to take bookings. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area if you want a genuinely happy evening and good food.

Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was nice. Food was nicely presented by the pork was very dry and the salad was basic raw white cabbage (and tasteless). All in all I'm not sure I would return

The George Inn is a lovely pub with great staff and delicious food. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the quality of the food is reflected in the price. It is a great autumn/winter pub (I imagine it's a glorious spring/summer pub, but I just love the fires). We visited on Sunday 10th Nov 24 to celebrate my dad's birthday, it was also Remembrance Sunday. As you can imagine Sunday lunch is popular, so book in advance. Please please please take note of one thing that the pub and team itself do not have direct control of - the clientele. Particularly the apparent military locals, who of course have significantly higher standing than anyone else in society. I recommend the pub fully, just proceed with caution if you are noise sensitive or have an aversion to arrogant individuals that believe only their experience matters. They suggested they are military and Remembrance Sunday is for them and no one else. Frankly, their inability to manage their children's behaviour and volume ruined the experience. They wanted to make sure they knew we are local, with that in mind, if you happen to be there when Captain Arrogant and co are there, make sure you are seated nowhere near them, they are entirely anti-social.
