Opinions de Abo Youssef Food Truck Austin
Had the lamb kebab. The flavors were phenomenal! The humus was delectable and paired well with the savory rice. Plates were prepared fresh and with care. I'm so glad we happened upon this culinary gem! I can't wait to come back!
I just love this place. It’s like a little piece of austin I can’t live without. Legit told my husband tonight if Abo trailer leaves we leave!! Food is ALWAYS amazing, and the owner is always wonderful. Tonight he packed extra sauce on the side because I told him how much I just loved it. Also, threw in baklava “just because” It just doesn’t get better than this little gem.❤️
My first time visiting because of all the great reviews and I was not disappointed. Fantastic food and such friendly people. I will absolutely be coming back! My new favorite Mediterranean spot.
Wish I had gotten a good picture to include with my review but let me just say the food here is INCREDIBLE! The man working there was so kind, went out of his way to bring the food to our car and even gave us a free lime mint drink which was so refreshing and delicious. I got the mix plate with yogurt and my bf got the mix plate with jalapeños and some other veggies (both were a lamb/chicken combo.) The servings are huge, I ate twice from my one plate and got full both times. The rice is delicious, the hummus was possibly the best I’ve ever had, basically everything we got was *chef’s kiss*. TRUST ME, if you come across this place do not hesitate to stop. Worth every penny spent and then some.
WOW this place was incredibly good - highly recommend the Gyro Wrap 😋🥙
I always get the falafel and gardenia plate, which is sooo delicious! It's a lot of food, so it can make two meals. This time, I ordered online for pickup, and it was ready when I got there. Highly recommend! Update: I went here again recently, and the owner was so nice... He gave me free rice pudding just out of kindness! What a pleasant surprise. I would definitely continue to support his business.
Normally not a reviewer but this place is awesome.Went out of curiosity from the rave reviews from friends. Was not disappointed. The food is delicious, fresh, authentic, full of flavor! Love the falafel wrap and my gosh, try the Lemon Mint Beverage. I saw Samir pick the mint fresh while waiting. When I picked up my food and he learned it was my first time, he smiled and gave me a baklava on the house. Such kind service, good prices, and small time to wait. Will be back here on the regular!
Got the mix plate for my first time here. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Even the rice and salad were unique and delicious! I'm used to food trailers having small portions, so I was surprised that the portions were very generous. Can easily imagine stopping here once a week. Can't recommend highly enough!
I've eaten here about five times and like the food and the service so much, I've brought friends and co-workers three of those times. The quality is top-notch, the gentleman (Abo Youssef) is so nice and happily will recommend items. Two nights ago, I had the mixed grill item and it was very tasty. Previously, I've had the Showarma and the gyro plates, all really good. He's even made the seating a little nicer (as much as you can expect from a gas station parking lot).
Delightful, friendly service and delicious food! The owner gave me a warm welcome and kindly guided me on their gluten free options (everything but the pita). 😁 Ordered the chicken shawarma and gyro, falafel, gardenia with eggplant/cauliflower and rice pudding all delicious! The gardenia and rice pudding are must-try’s.
I lived in Jersey for awhile and basically lived off places like this. This place is the closest I’ve found to what they have up there if not better. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and portion size is more than generous. Excellent, excellent, excellent!
The food was delicious and the portions were huge. We ordered the chicken shawarma, dolmas and chicken shish taouk and it was almost enough for two meals. Food was fresh and well seasoned. The owner was super friendly and gave us some extra lemonade on the house. We will definitely be back!
This place has long been my favorite Mediterranean spot in Austin. The food is simple, flavorful, and there's plenty of it. There's one extremely friendly older gentleman that works in the trailer, and he knows his way around a grill. I highly recommend the food trailer.
I stopped by on a whim, expecting it to be decent, and was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. The chicken shawarma wrap is by far the best I've ever had. There's a nice little seating area to it's side to enjoy your meal, and it's affixed to a gas station to grab a beer at. I would definitely recommend this to others.
This place is great! Amazing price for food. Abo is also so nice! He found out it was our first time and treated us very well, ensuring we understood everything and gave his recommendations. While the entrees are great, don’t skip out on the baklava or rice pudding!
I have been coming here for 3 years and I can't get enough. We recently moved to Kyle and drove 50 minutes just to get their food. This is the BEST middle eastern food truck in ATX. The owner is always so sweet and the food can't be beat. Try it and thank me later. So so so good!!
Been coming here for years. The owner is very nice and food consistently satisfies. I eat vegetarian but my girlfriend can confirm the meat is good and the falafel is never dry and always amazing as is the cauliflower.
Full of flavor, handmade with love by Abo Youssef himself. Just finished a lamb plate with rice, salad, hummus and wonderfully warm pita bread. Generous portions. 10/10 recommend!
One of the best meals you’ll have in all of Austin. Authentic, rich Mediterranean food at reasonable prices. My wife and I can split a mixed gyro/shawarma plate and both are stuffed. Love supporting small local places, which also quite often end up being the best!
Been a fan of this place since he opened up shop. I literally have not had anything here I did not enjoy. My go to is the Gyro plate but the other dishes are great. Plates are generous and always fresh. Try the lime mint drink! Located alongside Gulf gas station with outside seating.
We heard about this place and my husband picked it up for dinner tonight. We got the chicken Shawarma plate and the meat Gyro plate and it was absolutely delicious. The hummus was very fresh and the pita bread was fresh and homemade and it was just heavenly. We loved it!!
Outstanding food and service. Easily the best Mediterranean food that we’ve ever tasted. We ended up returning multiple times through our stay in Austin, and the food was always phenomenal. In particular, we recommend the baba ganoush, shawarmas, and falafel gardenia plate. The chef was very welcoming and kind. Overall an absolute must-try place for anyone in the Austin area.
Just picked up food for the first time and it is beyond expectations. The lentil soup is out of this world and the falafel is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. To top it off, we were given additional pita bread and baklava as a special treat at no extra cost! Just as a “thank you!” Will definitely be coming back again.
Best Mediterranean food in Austin -- the falafel is crunchy on the outside, tender inside, and so flavorful. The gardenia veggies are addictive, and even the rice is delicious and seasoned perfectly. The owner is so kind, I always leave smiling.
This is my favorite Mediterranean spot in Austin. I tried the chicken shawarma, lamb kebab, and gardenia. They were all amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the lamb was well seasoned. I was a little skeptical about the gardenia, but it was amazing. If you like eggplant and cauliflower, you will love it, and even if you don't, you will still love it. My favorite part was the pita bread. It is by far the best pita bread I have had in all of Austin. The serving sizes were also massive. The most amazing part of this place is that it is a food truck. The food came out quite quickly, but the service was nothing exceptional. It was exactly what I expected. There is no real seating or eating area near the food truck. It is in a gas station parking lot East of the UT campus. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you try this place out, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Best Mediterranean food I’ve had in Austin yet! Been to several other Mediterranean spots, both walk-in casual restaurant style (kismet, dimassi, peace) and food truck (judy’s, USA HALAL), Abo Youssef is my boyfriend’s and I #1 spot for Mediterranean. We always get the gyro plate. Super super yummy meat. The rice is amazing. Love the creamy sauce. Everything about this place is perfection. Whenever we are on the east side, I always ask my bf if he wants to order from here 😋
The most delicious food in all of Austin this number one, and I speak from experience.
One of the best food trucks in Austin. Super fresh. Great spices on the chicken and lamb. If I need a meal to make me feel better this is my go to spot. Super friendly owner.
This place made me feel like Bart when he tries Flander's hot cocoa in The Simpson's Movie (2007).
Everything we ordered was amazingly delicious! Kebab plate, falafel, roasted vegetables, and Greek fries were all wonderful. The lemon mint drink was out of this world! And the gentleman running the truck was so friendly, good with my kids, and generous. He even gave us a free dessert! I can't wait to go back!
About Youseff's food is absolutely amazing! I wish I had discovered it way earlier - it's definitely a go to for quality, delicious and convenient Mediterranean. Got the gyro plate and the meat was so tender and tasty! The falafel and gardenia plate (eggplant and cauliflower) was incredible and you must try the lemon mint tea! Add Baklava and you've got a feast for royalty!
My husband loves the food here, and it smells really good whenever we stop by to grab a plate. There is usually a line because he does such excellent business and is a great cook. The portions are pretty generous which is a plus when your hungry. 😊 I wish he had a better variety of vegetarian options though. Still 2 thumbs up for sure... 👍👍
Best Mediterranean food in Austin by a MILE. This place is incredible. You can taste how fresh all of the ingredients are, and you can really tell how well-prepared each dish is (and how generous the portions are!). Abo is so sweet and friendly, and on only my second trip to his restaurant he remembered me and greeted me warmly. You have not lived until you’ve tried the Gardenia plate, with sauteed eggplant, hummus, spiced cauliflower, falafel and tabouleh. I had it as a wrap with falafel last time as well, which blew my mind. My new regular spot!
Unreal. Cooking is so 80/20. This was worth the wait. Huge fan of Mediterranean food, and this lamb wrap may have been the best I’ve ever had. My wife got the falafel and it was rock solid. The owner also brought us baklava which was also wonderful. Side note: the pita itself was incredible. And the drink selection inside the gas station next door was solid. Parking across the street was easy. Two thumbs way way up. Does it live up the hype? You bet it does. Can’t wait to go back.
Amazing refreshing food! The best Mediterranean food in austin! I ordered their falafel and cauliflower plate and It was so tasty! It is packed with flavor and enough food to feed two! The hummus is soooo fresh and delicious. My friend ordered the lamb and chicken plate and it’s so flavorful and the meat was very tender. I ordered the baklava for desert and its sweet and delicious, I had never had it before but it’s delicious, reminded me of pecan pie in a way. In addition to the yummy food the man (I’m assuming Abo) was very kind and seemed to be enjoying himself jamming and cooking up heaven sent food. Thank you! Will be back!!
I love this place. The service is a little slow, but that is because they take their time making everything. The price is great, and whatever you get will fill you up. I usually get the eggplant dish, but I have had the seafood mix and both are outstanding. I will drive across town to get my fix here. Easily one of the best Mediterranean places in Austin.
I love this food truck and I love the man who runs it!! He is so personable and kind, you can tell he cares a lot about his craft and his clients. I always get the chicken shawarma and it is soooo delicious. Huge portions, delicious hummus, and a bit of fluffy pita. All around lovely experience!
This food truck has been a a consistent destination in Cherrywood/French Place for many years now. Everything I’ve ever ordered has been excellent and the portions are always generous. The owner is friendly, kind, and always takes the time to say hello and ask how I’m doing. What more could you want!?
I recently tried Abo Youssef Mediterranean and I am so glad I did! The food truck was clean and inviting, with friendly staff who made ordering easy and enjoyable. The menu had a great variety of Mediterranean dishes, making it tough to choose what to order. I ended up going with the falafel wrap and it did not disappoint. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the wrap itself was packed with fresh veggies and a delicious sauce. The portion size was generous and definitely filling. My friend tried the shawarma plate and also loved it. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the sides of hummus and tabbouleh were a perfect complement. Overall, I highly recommend Abo Youssef Mediterranean to anyone looking for tasty Mediterranean food on-the-go. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the staff are friendly and efficient. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu items!
Delicious. Great flavors. The hummus is more chunky than I’m used to but, very fresh tasting. Server was also very nice! Food is on the more expensive side, but typical considering it’s a food trucks. Will definitely go back!
The best and most authentic Mediterranean food in Austin served with a smile! The owner and chef was super friendly and made an incredible meal. This was the closest Mediterranean I’ve have since being in Europe. 10/10 recommend.
Amazing food and service! Huge portion for the price, and received baklava on the house as it was my first time here. Highly recommend the falafel and gardenia plate. Definitely one of the best spots for mediterranean food in Austin. I know I’ll be back soon!
First time going tonight and I loved the food. The owner is nice and gave my husband and I free baklava for being first timers. We were surprised and grateful. I am def coming back. The food was worth the drive.
This was my best food truck experience! The food was so so good and just exactly what we wanted. The ingredients tasted fresh and we got a lot of food for what we paid for, so great value. The service was exceptional and the man running the business was so kind to us. He totally made our day with how genuinely kind he was! You can tell he puts a lot of care into the food he makes.
You can’t go wrong with any of the food here. Simply delicious! Do not skip on the desserts! The rice pudding and baklava are amazing! Also the owner is very kind! One of my favorite places to eat at in Austin.
Hands down the best Mediterranean food. The chicken shawarma was amazing. Definitely choose the shawarma gyro combo. The lamb was so soft and good and tasty. Also had the lemon mint drink which we had to go back for seconds because it was so good. Will be returning here again. The baklava also 🤌🤌🤌. Must try
10/10 experience from an unsuspecting location! Amir (owner) is the kindest person, takes real pride in his work, and serves the most delicious food! I am vegetarian and get the falafel garden plate and every vegetable is cooked to perfection plus the falafel is perfection. Also, the portion sizes are huge!!
Favorite food truck in Austin! The falafel gardenia plate is possibly the best vegetarian dish around. We eat here almost weekly, the owner is always welcoming and the food is always quality. Rice pudding and Baklava are a great treat, my kids love it.
First time visiting, I have been looking for authentic Mediterranean food. I had the chicken shawarma plate, which comes with a side of hummus, salad, and warm bread. Huge portions worth the price. The owner was very nice and friendly, he also gifted us baklava. Definitely going back again!
If I could rate this place 1,000,000 I would. Visiting from DFW, been to all of the great established Mediterranean places in DFW, but they pale in comparison to this humble little trailer... OMG, really the best Mediterranean food I've ever had! Get the Mix Plate, thank me later. The owner was really kind and was so happy that we enjoyed it so much. GO HERE ASAP, NOT KIDDING!!!
My go-to spot for when I want a big Mediterranean plate with all the delicious homemade sides. Been coming to this truck for a while and am never disappointed with the flavor, fresh ingredients and generous portions. Samir is a staple on this neighborhood, always remembering my name, my order and sometimes even throwing in an extra treat on the house. Truly East Austin experience - you gotta go!!
Food was exceptional, owner is super friendly, I got the lamb for my whole family and they loved every single bite. Would highly recommend this hidden gem!
If I could give more stars I would. Food is amazing and fresh. The service even better. He told me 15 mins so I went and sat in my car and forgot the time. He came to my car with the food, while he has other orders to fill as well. That’s the quality he provides. Thank you and the only Mediterranean food I go to.
This is the best food in town! I literally come here at least once a week. The owner is so kind and makes the best Gyro wraps I’ve ever had! I am not one to leave reviews unless I’m wowed, and I get wowed every time!
1st time going today, i got the mix grill plate and my girlfriend got the chicken sharwarma. Ive eating at places like pasha and Jerusalem grill and enjoyed greek food. This guys food was 10/10. Served up hot and fresh. It was a hot day and he dscided to give us a couple of mint lime drinks just to be kind. Man I am sold on those now. To sum it up friendly atmosphere, great service, and great taste. Thank you sir. -customer for life
The food was ridiculously delicious. Owner is such a nice man. I will be stopping by for dinner everytime I'm in town. It was hands down the best meal I have had in Austin.
Wow! My husband I wanted a tasty low key spot to celebrate our anniversary and we landed a great one! Food was solid and big portions. The owner was helpful on helping us decide what to order. He even threw in a free piece of baklava. The mixed plate and the falafel were plentiful and tasty. We will definitely be back!
Phenomenal food! I got the mix plate that includes juicy, flavor-packed chicken shawarma and gyro meat over rice that wowed me with flavor, tzatziki sauce drizzled on top, house salad, hummus, and pita on the side, it’s absolutely fantastic! The gyro wrap was one of the best I’ve had! Loved the lime/mint drink. Baklava was delicious! The owner was so nice too!
This place is unassuming but incredible. The owner was incredibly kind and cheerful. The food was delicious. Meats were juicy and flavorful, the rice was perfectly cooked, tabula salad tasted fresh, and the pita was soft with just the right amount of char. The baklava was also delicious! We got the mixed meat plate and it was enough food for two people. We ate outside at a small side table. Cannot recommend this place enough.
So delicious and wonderful service! I’ve tried a lot of halal food trucks around Austin and this is one of my favorites. Loved the combination plate. Will definitely be back!!!
Tried this food truck for the first time today and was absolutely amazed at how flavorful and yummy it was!! I got the chicken shawarma plate and it was soooo good I couldn’t put my fork down til I pretty much devoured it. I came back for more an hour later to give my family dinner, they’re gonna love it! Management is super friendly and nice too! I will definitely be back thank you!
This place is 20/10. Will definitely be returning to try more on the menu. Had the mixed grill plate and the regular mix plate and everything else was delicious. You get tons of food for free the price. There’s seating available if you would like to stay. Tables are clean. Service was pleasant and my order came out pretty quickly. Highly recommend
First time but not my last time! Amazing falafel, crispy and tasty with special sauce, eggplant and cauliflower. Rice plate is the way to go and pretty big portions I have lunch for tomorrow! Amazing service, kind and thoughtful. Will definitely return! All my friends loved their shawarma plates and baklava. Come support!!
Today was my first visit to Abo Youssef and I will 100% be coming back! Such kind and friendly service, and amazing food that can’t be beat! We especially enjoyed the falafel gardenia platter which features a delectable spice blend adorning some of the best Mediterranean rice in town. :)
One of the BEST food trucks in Austin serving Mediterranean food. It’s located in a busy area with bars/restaurants, inside a gas station parking lot. It was our first time there but we have heard great things. We were greeted by an older man, he was extremely nice and runs the truck by himself. I asked him if he was Egyptian since my bestie is and she is from Alexandria. The owner said he was from Alexandria too! ☺️ We ordered the shish kebab plate, mixed grill plate, HAWASHY, and he gave us complimentary baklava since it was our first time there. The meat plates were so good. The meat was generous and the pita bread was soft, warm, and so good with the hummus and meat on it. The salad was refreshing and cold. Works really well with the meat and rice and white sauce. The mix grill plate was a combo of lamb and chicken—get it if you want to try both meats. The HAWAWSHY was very very unique. It was a very big bread stuffed with beef and lamb. It was so soft, easy to pull apart, slight sweetness from the bread and spice from the meat. We got it as an appetizer but the size of it is a whole entree. I highly recommend you try the hawawshy next time. And lastly, of course the baklava was amazing. We air fried the 2nd one the next day and it was so good. The food is so delicious!! Prices are keeping up with inflation and still cheaper than those sit in restaurants. Give this food truck and the Egyptian man from Alexandria a chance! :) I believe it’s ranked #83 best places to eat in Austin. There are a few picnic tables you can eat it.
BEST Mediterranean food in Austin! I’ve been coming here for years and the quality and service is always amazing. The owner is so kind and always whips up my food so quickly. Portions are big, especially the plates! And don’t skip dessert, the baklava and rice pudding are delicious too.
No exaggeration - the BEST gyro I have EVER had. Out of all the halal spots I’ve ever been to this one was awesome. Kept it simple, gyro wrap and the meat was SO flavorful. I’m really impressed with the quality and speed of service especially considering it’s a one man operation. Hidden gem
This place is amazing! The food tastes great, we got the mixed shawarma and gyro plate and you get tons of food! Comes with a side of pita. Hummus tastes homemade, it is delicious. Make sure you order some baklava. The owner is so so nice, he truly cares about providing quality food and quality service. A true East Austin gem.
Ordered through UberEats. Had the Chicken Shawerma Plate and the Beef Shawarma Over rice Both had good flavor but could have used a touch more seasoning on the protein itself. The hummus was a little runny and tasted goodenought. Pita bread was thick, warm, and soft. Loved it. Portion sizes are plentyful!!! You can eat a single plate and be very full, or make two mid size meals out of one. Worth the price. I would definitely go back for the price/portion alone, and again, the protein had flavor, I just with it had a touch more of the spice mix.
I was surprised with the portion size! The flavor was delicious! So so good and every was and tasted fresh. The service was fantastic very friendly and the server explain our options as we where new to this spot. I feel the prices are a bit high but other than that I enjoyed my experience and the food. I’m definitely coming back!!
Mr. Abo can cook his tail off! Ended up getting the mixed plate with chopped chicken & lamb. Sweet damn is all I could say after the first few bites. Let me tell you, the veggies are fresh and still had a juicy crunch, the meat was seasoned to perfection with cinnamon, cardamom etc...the bomb. Very traditional in that aspect and I appreciate About so much for it. Will be back to try the Gyro!
PROS: Good flavor, friendly service. CONS: Food not fresh at all. (Cilantro of the salad looked 3 days old), for the price I paid and the reviews I red I expected better quality (58 dollars for 3 people). The hummus had good flavor but it was old as well. The food seemed that they give a shelve life of 3 days or more once it is cooked or tossed in the case of the salad. Nothing looked or tasted fresh. I know it was expected to see flies but it is too much: Lots of flies. I know it is a food truck but they charge as a casual dine in kitchen with no waste because they sell it all to the customers. I guess this is the best option after hours when you get out of a bar or you are drunk.
I don’t know if it was an off night, but nothing we got was very good. The hummus was watery and lacked flavor, chicken for the chicken plate was spicy, falafel was dry, and even the tahini didn’t taste right. The rice was pretty good, but that was about it.
The reviews seems to be very misleading and or fake , we tried chicken plate and falafel plate the food was stale and tasted almost bitter, the guy taking order was nice but when he brought all our food in 5 minutes we had our doubts. Food was very old flavorless we paid over 70$ with tip for 4 dishes and threw everything away after tasting it.
came here off a recommendation so i had high expectations along with the reviews! however ive never had such bland mediterranean food ever. the spices were nice initially but theres no salt and the flavor disappears after about 5 seconds sadly. the service was fine but there’s definitely way better mediterranean food for cheaper!
