Opinions de Kismet Cafe Austin
Kissmet low key lives off nostalgia. If you went there in college, it probably hits different. My girl has been hyping this place for months like it’s a core memory. “I ate this every day.” “You’re gonna love it.” “It’s elite.” So I finally folded and went. First impression, solid but not life changing. The pita was decent, but not that warm, fluffy, cloud bread vibe I was expecting. It did the job, just not transcendent. The gyro meat though? Respect. Seasoned right, good texture, not dry. The hummus also held its own. Smooth, flavorful, no weird aftertaste. You can tell they’ve been doing this a while. For about 15 bucks, it’s honestly a safe lunch play. Not gourmet Mediterranean from a seaside village, but definitely a reliable staple. I get why college kids ride for it. It’s quick, filling, and feels a little healthier than your average fast food run. Final verdict Not a spiritual experience, but solid. 7.8 out of 10, boosted to an 8.5 if you factor in college nostalgia.
Will always and forever be one of our favorite spots. I do miss their location at UT campus but I still make the drive to 41st street for Kismet. Highly recommend the mixed rice plate. And really everything.
Their orangue sauce is the best drizzle I've put on a meat plate ever. There's no replacement for me.
I eat shawarma often. At least twice a week. I am very happy with the food I ordered. delicious fragrant rice and that jalapeño sauce is slappin!
I've been coming to this place consistently for years and realized today that I've never left a review. If great arabic/meditteranean food is what you're looking for, this is the spot. There are so many overpriced places in austin that have similar menus and the food costs a lot more but doesn't compare to what you get at Kismet. It's great quality and tasty food everytime. I lived in Jerusalem and traveled around the middle east a lot while living there - whenever I feel a yearning for that culinary experience, kismet is where I go - not just for the food but the friendly folks who work there. It's truly a gem of austin and I hope that more people get to experience the magic (kismet really is a fitting name!)
Kismet Café has a good mix of fresh and affordable Mediterranean food. Portions are generous, and there are plenty of options, including vegan and vegetarian dishes. The cauliflower wrap and seasoned fries stand out, both full of flavor. The chicken shawarma wrap was a bit heavy on garlic sauce and the chicken felt slightly dry, but still decent overall. Service is counter-style, which is quick but not ideal if you want to sit and relax. Open late every day, so it’s convenient when you need a quick bite near campus.
Very quick service I have been here multiple times food is HALAL. Food is always very tasty. Very affordable while being great quality food. Always plenty of parking and the inside dining area usually always has space. Many people also order takeout if that is more your style. They do have a kids meal aswell. I recommend to anybody who is looking for a quick bite to eat.
“We tried the chicken over rice, lamb Masawi, Arabic wraps, and some drinks—and everything was delicious! The chicken over rice and the lamb were especially standout. The hummus tasted freshly made, and the fries had a naturally savory flavor. It felt like the perfect blend of Middle Eastern cuisine with an Asian twist. Planning to come back again, hopefully with more family next time!”
My most frequented restaurant in Austin. Generous portion for around $14 with tax and tip. The rice, meat and veggie options, fries, and sauce hit the spot. I’ve tried the beef, gyro, eggplant, and falafel and all are great in their own ways. The chicken has been a bit dry, so I avoid it. The beef options can get a bit rich. The falafel is good to balance it out. Also, the employees are fast and friendly!
Kismet Café – A Gem for Halal Mediterranean Cuisine in Austin! #HalalinAustin (More food reviews around the world on IG: @sneha_speaks) If you’re looking for flavorful, generous portions of Mediterranean food without the typical Austin price tag, Kismet Café is the place to go. With Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine that caters to halal, vegetarian, and vegan diets, this spot offers something for everyone. The food portions are big and satisfying, offering incredible value for the price. My go-to recommendation is their P12, which combines the best of two menu favorites: the lamb mashawi and sheesh kabab. This platter comes with tender, flavorful meat, served with a delicious combo of rice, fresh salad, creamy hummus, and warm pita bread. The taziki sauce on the side adds the perfect zesty touch, and for those who like a bit of heat, the hot sauce option is a must-try. Even if you’re not usually a fan of wraps, Kismet’s are worth a try – packed with flavor and made with fresh ingredients, they won’t disappoint. One of the standout qualities is the restaurant’s clean, welcoming atmosphere, complete with an outdoor seating area perfect for enjoying a meal with the family on a nice day. The cashiers are always friendly, adding to the inviting vibe. Overall, Kismet Café is a fantastic spot for anyone craving authentic Mediterranean food with a halal twist in Austin!
Great customer service. A blond woman helped us out. She answered all of our questions, she was great, super helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. They have chips, yogurt drinks, candy bars, ice cream, high chairs for babies, damn they have everything you need to have a comfortable and warm meal. The place is super cozy with booth and table options. The music is nice and relaxing. The food is perfect! So delicious, prepared fresh! Also cool, they have a self ordering kiosk, a really nice touch.
Very good Mediterranean food. Generally get the p17 with chicken which never disappoints. The falafel however isn’t be best here (little dry). They haven’t raised their prices to insanity like a lot of other Mediterranean places in the area so that’s a plus. Usually come here every time Im in the area. Overall great place and highly recommend.
Amazing food and great ambiance. We dined in and felt it was quite safe and clean (Covid times). The staff was extremely helpful and courteous and they had a very authentic interior decor. I thought their menu was very diverse abd had various dishes I would like to try in the future. We ordered their Gyro over Rice, Lamb Masawi and Kids Menu with Nuggets and Fries. Lamb Masawi was yummm...I loved the sauce that came with it and the Salad was amazing. Their Humus was also flavourful and fresh. Gyro was top-notch ! We all loved it. Kids enjoyed their meal ... fries were good and they also gave us some complimentary fries which was great. At the end we had the chocolate baklava which was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. Looking forward to going back !!!
I got the Vegan Shawarma and Fries. Very good price, for both it was $13.50. The falafel was very crispy and flavorful. I think it could have had more sauce in it. My friend got the Veggie Supreme, it was amazing. Overall, the place was great the service was great too! They had some drinks and juices and the Strawberry Mango drink was really good! Atmosphere was good, definitely recommend this place!
A great place for Mediterranean food without it being Austin price. The food portion are big and really good for the price. My favorites there has to be their baklava. It’s always so sweet and delicious. They also have a dessert called nut roll. It tasted like cashew in it. I love their crazy sauce with chicken and gyro. Their gyro wrap is decent too. I tried their eggplant side, and it was good if you like eggplant. Wished it was salted though. There’s free parking and a nice dining area.
Nice Mediterranean restaurant located close to University of Texas campus and Interstate-35 located close to downtown. Food quality is so good, staffs are cheerful and help in choosing the options. Even for large orders, food serving/packaging is done very fast. If you want to try some nice Mediterranean meal for family during holidays/off-time ,I shall recommend this place. Togo orders are delivered through Grubhub partnership across Austin. #HappyDining
I came for dinner, with no line to order. I enjoyed my meal, which was Drizzled Plate with jalapeno sauce over chicken and falafel. The rice had a curry flavor, which I like. And the jalapeno sauce has enough kick without overpowering. Everything seems reasonably priced too. I plan to come back!
Poor service. We ordered a fries and drinks combo, and initially they said it was included at no charge. When I offered to pay for the combo, they then said it wasn’t available as a combo at all. The food quality has also declined. It used to be really good, but now it’s not great and feels overpriced. Not worth it.
The food here is fantastic. Nice music and friendly staff. BUT the cleanliness here is seriously concerning. Mold growing on the outside of the coke machine - just imagine what the inside looks like. Dirty bathrooms too. If this place just cleaned it would be 5/5. Seeing all the dirty stuff just makes me think the kitchen is the same way as well.
